AGUSTIN SUMUROY
(Known also as Juan Agustin Sumoroy rather
than Juan Ponce Sumuroy)
http://dazzledsunshine.wordpress.com
/2013/01/12/walking-the-town-proper-of-
palapag-norther...
- He was a Waray leader of the Sumoroy Rebellion- a
rebellion of native Filipinos against colonial Spanish
forces that occurred in eastern Visayas in 1649-
1650.
- During the height of the insurrection, Sumoroy did
not make peace with the Spaniards. He was killed
by his own men. His head separated from his body,
was presented to the to Don Genis de Rojas by one
of his men.
- His uprising in 1649 was caused by polo y servicio
system being undertaken in Samar. Despite orders
that natives subject to polo shall not be sent away
from the hometown, they were sent to shipyards of
Cavite to do their polo, which sparked the revolt. A
free government was also established in the
mountains of Samar.
- The defeat, capture and execution of Sumuroy in
June 1650 did not end the revolt. It was sustained
by other revolutionaries.
- Sporadic skirmises and hatred with the Spanish
authorities started by Sumuroy continued, and
pursued by new faces in the rebellion fronts. This is
marked as the beginning of the end of the long
Spanish rule in the country.

For health reason, it
is not good to take a

Lalin/Pintakasi/Bayanihan
(Communal Work)
1 Bayanihan embodies mutual assistance
and self-help among equals or
togetherness in a common effort (Sylvia
Guerrero)
2 It is a different assistance for it
connotes heroism regardless of existing
social ranking and structures, leadership
roles, and authority relationships
(Aguiling-Dalisay)
3 The spirit that binds us together as one
nation cannot be that of class conflict
but the power which has transported,
even in pre-Hispanic times, one whole
house on the shoulders of people
committed to help a friend in need: the
spirit of Bayanihan, the word expressive
1 Learners should feel and
think that bayanihan culture
promotes accommodation,
conflict avoidance and
generous and undeserved
rewards
2 They have to understand
that this value promotes
smooth interpersonal
relationship among members
of the community
3 They have to feel a sense of
belongingness in the
community where they are in.
1 Be able to extend
help to anyone
whenever possible.
2 Participate in Brigada
Eskwela or in any other
activities at home, in
school and in the

Badjao of Dolho, Bato, Leyte The Badjaos are known as “Sea Gypsies”
scattered along coastal areas of Tawi-tawi,
Sulu, Basilan, Zamboanga, and ARRM. They
have bronze-colored hair and dark brown
skin living on house boats and thrive as
fishermen, deep sea divers, and navigators.
Unique to their cultural ritual is the concept
of life and their relationship to the sea. A
newly-born infant is thrown into the sea
and members of the clan dive to save the
newborn. Their religion and language is
Muslim-influenced.
The Badjaos are actually people of the
sea which is their source of livelihood. They
can be found in the city sidewalks asking for
alms. Then they completely disappear. They
are ignorant and innocent in a way and do
not want trouble.
They like fishing, seaweeds, seashells,
and cassava roots. Their houses are
standing on stilts over the water beside

Bamboo Percussion (Karatong) is a percussive instrument made of
bamboo internode. A hole is punched in
the internode to produce the desired
sound. Variation of sound is produced
depending on the intensity applied by the
beater. This instrument is used to signal
meal time to farm workers.
Our old folks had the
ingenuity of making
indigenous musical
instruments out of locally
available materials.
Bamboo, just like coconut,
has many uses and
applications.
1. Understand the
concept of time
signature by using the
karatong
2. Practice
constructing rhythmic
patterns
3. Sing songs with the
karatong as

TATSI/Taksi Tatsi/taksi may be played by
individuals or groups at a time.
Players bet a number of tansans
(bottlecaps) placed inside a circle
drawn on the ground. Then, a
paulo is tossed from a starting
line five (5) meters away from the
circle. The player/team to get a
samit or to get his or her/their
tarap (flat stone) nearest the
starting line will win the first
turn to play. Whoever gets the
most number of tansans out of
the circle using the tarap is
declared winner.
Tatsi is a good alternative
group game because it
teaches the concepts of
environmental friendliness,
recycling and ecocomy.
Tatsi also builds team spirit
and collaboration.
Perform simple
addition and
subtraction using
the tansans in tatsi

LOCAL HEROES & HISTORICAL EVENTS Local Theme What Learner Should Know What Learner Should Feel and Think About What Learner Should Do AGUSTIN SUMUROY (Known also as Juan Agustin Sumoroy rather than Juan Ponce Sumuroy) http://dazzledsunshine.wordpress.com /2013/01/12/walking-the-town-proper-of- palapag-norther... - He was a Waray leader of the Sumoroy Rebellion- a rebellion of native Filipinos against colonial Spanish forces that occurred in eastern Visayas in 1649- 1650. - During the height of the insurrection, Sumoroy did not make peace with the Spaniards. He was killed by his own men. His head separated from his body, was presented to the to Don Genis de Rojas by one of his men. - His uprising in 1649 was caused by polo y servicio system being undertaken in Samar. Despite orders that natives subject to polo shall not be sent away from the hometown, they were sent to shipyards of Cavite to do their polo, which sparked the revolt. A free government was also established in the mountains of Samar. - The defeat, capture and execution of Sumuroy in June 1650 did not end the revolt. It was sustained by other revolutionaries. - Sporadic skirmises and hatred with the Spanish authorities started by Sumuroy continued, and pursued by new faces in the rebellion fronts. This is marked as the beginning of the end of the long Spanish rule in the country. Source: wikepdia - To raise an arm against oppression that endangers the sovereignty of the nation - Develop the value of nationalism - Love your native place - Fight for what is right - Expound readings and discussions on his life during class discussion in Araling Panlipunan - Join in the celebration in honor of Sumuroy - Conduc/participate fieldtrip - Watch video clips about the life of Sumuroy
