2. MOOC
Massive Open Online Course, is a term used to describe web technologies
that have enabled educators to create virtual classrooms for thousands of
students accessible across the world.
Early MOOCs often emphasized open-access features, such as open
licensing of content, structure and learning goals, to promote the reuse
and remixing of resources.
4. Radio and Education
Broadcast radio was new in the 1920s and with programs that were free to audiences
of any size. By 1922, New York University operated its own radio station, with plans
to broadcast practically all its courses. Other universities soon followed suit, including
Columbia, Harvard, Kansas State, Ohio State, Purdue, Wisconsin, Utah and many
others.
Students read textbooks and listened to broadcast lectures, while mailing in answers
to tests. Journalist Bruce Bliven asked: "Is radio to become a chief arm of education?
Will the classroom be abolished and the child of the future be stuffed with facts as he
sits at home or even as he walks about the streets with his portable receiving-set in his
pocket?
6. MOOC
In September 2013, edX
announced a partnership with
Google to develop Open edX,
an open source platform and
its MOOC.org, a site for non-
xConsortium groups to build
and host courses.

In the last 5 years a new form of
education has arisen, Massive Open
Online Courses (MOOCs).
MOOCs are popular all over the world
through which learning is measured,
evaluated, and accredited.
8. MOOC INDIA
Indian Government has recently launched an Indian focused MOOC platform for all. This MOOC
platform is termed as ‘Swayam’- Study Webs of Active-learning for Young Aspiring Minds.
SWAYAM is a platform for new India where quality education is affordable and self-learning is
fruitful not only for enrolled but also for professionals and dropouts.
The SWAYAM platform is specifically designed benefit students from remote areas, working
professionals as well as college dropouts. Students will get ‘Verified Certificate’ after
successfully completion of courses.
10. AUDIO MOOC – The Proposal
The university will use the i-radio platform to create the first Audio MOOC. Except the lone
example of an audio MOOC from IIT Kanpur which is limited to short messages accessible via dialup
connections.
Web based I-Radiolive is being positioned as the world’s first audio MOOC. We have the
infrastructure, platform to host, world class audio broadcasters to design, train and present the
programmes.
The platform enables recording of all the Hindi/Urdu/English language lectures including phonetics.
The platform’s customized mobile app for android and windows phones makes audio listening simple
and cost effective
The entire course will be produced with excellent script, production, sound effects etc., I-Radiolive will
also register with MOOC.org as an institutional provider and link it with the EdX site and
Swayam.org. There is no fee for these services.
The audio MOOC will strengthen the Indian way of teaching through the 21st century tools. The
university will emerge as the pioneer in offering courses through audio.
12. Impact
In the future we may see major changes driven by the rise of MOOCa, in
the way higher education institutions measure achievement, offer courses
and earn revenue.
Universities hit hard by budget constraints may offload the economic
burden of lower level courses like introductory mathematics to MOOC
providers while they focus on efforts on higher division courses.
