How LIMA (PERU) based National University of Engineering of Peru
students use Rivers for a more organized and effective distance learning
experience.
The National University of Engineering is widely regarded as the foremost
science and technology-oriented university in Perú, many of its alumni
occupying positions of leadership in the fields of Industry, Academia, and
Government.
Organization
UNI is organized into eleven faculties which contain twenty-seven
academic departments. It is a university polarized around science,
engineering, and the arts. In the academic year 2020-21 itself the university
has around 13,000+ students enrolled in various academic programs.
Most of the academic departments offer a wide variety of engineering
specialties, including Industrial, Mechanic, Mechatronic, Electronic
Engineering, and other innovative fields more related to Social Sciences
such as Economic Engineering.
The current COVID-19 situation forced the university to turn all the
Face-to-face courses into Virtual Courses, so that the students and
professors can adapt quickly to this new form of learning and can minimize
the impact of COVID 19 on learning at the university.
The immediate problem was that the university courses involve a lot of
work in teams and each student has around 7 courses assigned to them,
so, all students used WhatsApp or Facebook Messenger to work with their
teams and that was very disorganized. Also, some students didn’t have
laptops and were limited to their mobile devices for learning and tasks.
2. The students and faculty needed a solution that is simple to use, is not
limited to use on desktops, quick to learn and which can be rolled out
quickly.
The university group adopted Rivers to organise teams
in controlled, private, and safe Cubes where students
can perform countless activities and conversations and
could tap to receive support, guidance and advice from
peers and faculty in real time.
With Rivers Cubes, students create Rivers Topics, share messages,
and access tools and files from one centralized place.
Rivers being a mobile-first solution comes
in very handy as students could easily
install and use it on their phones.
Rivers also enables their community to be
more engaged, by driving more focused,
effective communication utilizing Private,
Open Topics, and Channels.
3. Using Link Invite into Cubes, the group
admins invite group members quickly and
easily by simply inviting them through
WhatsApp or Email.
The university
faculty and group admins
easily send important notification for
weekly, monthly meetings utilizing
Announcements.
The UNI community also uses Rivers to help
4. connect students pursuing technology
careers with alumni, staff, professional clubs
and campus representatives.
Utilizing the Guest invite feature, they also
leverage the external alumni network to
conduct extended learning.
Group Admin limits Guest access to a limited
number of private Topics or Channels, so
that they won’t see other Topics unless
invited to them and furthermore Guests can only see the list of
participants in the Topic that they have been invited to.
This way Rivers is helping the current students to learn from the
experience and knowledge of their alumni network, which they find
very helpful.
Using Rivers, members can:
● Create channels for broadcasting announcements, meeting
requests, networking, clubs, events, career resources and
internship opportunities.
● Hold weekly/monthly student, faculty meetings
● Hold question and answer sessions or AMAs
● Brainstorming on projects or ideas.
