This presentation takes a look at leadership opportunities beyond the obvious resident assistant and orientation leader, especially as it relates to commuter students. Campus jobs can be leadership opportunities with the right learning outcomes and a proper understanding of the needs of your campus.

Evaluate Campus Need
- No core leadership program on campus
- No tour guides
- We wanted to develop a cohort of students who with training could clearly and correctly articulate and represent the college and its mission
Consider Your Student Population
- We know that our students are commuters, low-income/middle-income, diverse (traditionally underrepresented backgrounds), working (full- time or part- time), coming to us from NYC public school system
Who are the stakeholders:
- Marketing/Developing (Alumni)
- Admissions
- President’s Office
- Career Services
- Orientation
- Pre-Law (undergraduate academic departments)

Pre-prof program
Prepare students for the next step – when I started in 2011 it was my 1st full time job and I used my own experiences to inform my role as advisor to this program.
Needs of the first gen student
We provide opportunities for groups of students that might not have had access to development opportunities. We provide opportunities for mentorship, leadership, volunteerism, and increase competencies in the realms of personal and career development.
