10. Wayang Kulit - Indonesia
• One of the most distinctive shadow plays among Asian
dramas.
• It evolves in Java and Bali Indonesia
• It makes use of flat puppets that are cut and designed
with intricate patterns.
• The shadow images can be shown when projected on
screen with oil lamp or electric light .

12. Characteristics of Wayang Kulit
• 1. the puppets
- 6 inches to more than 3 feet
-mounted in sticks from a buffalo horn
-complete set is 300 to 400 figures
-Performance starts from 8:30pm until dawn
-Duration of the play is 9-10 hours

Based on Mahabharata and Ramayana- the two
Hinduism epics
Characters may vary in size, shape, color, and costume
Other minor figures are ogre, clown, god etc.

narrating the story, interpreting the characters, singing
songs, producing sound effects, and giving cues for the
gamelan.
