1. R + F Productions
By Niamh Finch and Roisin Coglan
2. What is the product?
Our product is an animated short film in 2D about a love
story. The plot starts when they first meet and shows
there life together. The animation is going to display
how a relationship develops which can relate to our
audience. In the plot, the husband goes to war leaving
his pregnant wife. However in the end comes back safe
and the story has a happy ending.
3. Who is the target audience?
The target audience for our animation are 15-30
year olds male and female. This is because
although animation is for younger viewers the
context of our plot makes it more relatable for older
audiences.
4. Influences
UP
Saving Private Ryan
Black Hawk Down
Dear John
ASDF

5. Delegation of roles
We delegated our roles in this production company
equally and always made sure someone was doing
something. Some tasks that we faced we did
independently as we both have different skills to fit
different tasks. Some of the bigger tasks we
decided to work as a team and split up to get them
done quickly and efficiently.
6. Comparisons to existing products
The animation we are making is similar to some
products in relation to the plot for example Dear John
and Saving Private Ryan. Both are based on people
going away to war. Dear John is more similar because
he is leaving behind his girlfriend. A 2D animation that is
comparable to ours is the ASDF movies on youtube. We
want to create animation like this in our product
because it is simple and also audiences to focus on the
story.
7. Risk assessments
In our production we have to make sure that
everyone is safe and no one gets hurt or any
equipment gets damaged. However we have to
take into consideration, all the possibilities that
might go wrong. For example if the laptop we are
using breaks, then we should prepare a back up so
that this doesn’t effect losing our work or slowing us
down.
8. Research 1
For our research we did a mixture of primary,
secondary, qualitative and quantitative research.
For our primary research we decided to write up a
questionnaire about animation and get people
within our target audience to answer them.
For our secondary research we decided to look at
figures for different movies that are similar to us.
For example we looked at Saving Private Ryan
and looked at the budget of the movie and how
much it made. This showed us how popular
movies that are similar to ours are.
9. Research 2
• Qualitative research – for our qualitative research
we looked into competitors and researched there
different animation so we could see what kind of
products our animation would be up against.
Some of the movies included ‘Frozen’ and ‘Snow
White’
• Quantitative research – we did positive and
negative reviews for the film ‘Atonement’ and
analyzed them to gather information about what
audiences like and don’t like in a similar plot to
ours
10. How they effect our animation?
From our qualitative research the positive and negatives
we learned that we need to make our animated
characters interesting and bring them to life. From the
questionnaire we learned that people prefer animated
films when the characters are iconic and slightly
comedic. A lot of our research showed us that the
characters are extremely important and when making
our animation we need to think carefully about how we
portray them. The music also needs to be good and
catchy so that the audience remembers it.
11. Resources, equipment and software
to use
The software we will use is flash on a mac laptop. For
recording the music that will play over our animation we
will need to have two microphones, mic stands, a piano,
XLR, JACK cables, a mixing desk and logic pro on a
mac computer. We will then be able to place the music
over the animation so that we can play it in the
background.
12. How we are going to make our
animated short film?
The first thing we will do is to record our music that
will go over the animation. We will use condenser
microphones, mic stands and logic pro to record
and edit. Then we are going to make our animated
short film on a mac using flash. We will learn to use
the software by attending lessons with an IT
specialist so that we develop more knowledge
about flash.
13. Soundtrack
As we mentioned on the previous slide we will have a
slow song playing in the background. To avoid copyright
we decided to record a piece of original music from an
artist. We will write up a release form so that the terms
and conditions are explained and clear to both parties.
The piece will have no words and the animation itself
has no dialogue.
14. Budget
We have no budget as we will
not have to pay for anything. The
music is going to be recorded by
us so that we wont have to pay
for copyright. We wont have to
pay for the software as it will be
on school computers. Our
characters and plot are original
so again we wont have to pay for
copyright. Also in our animation
there is no voiceovers so no
payment is required for actors.
15. Production schedule
We will start creating the animation after half term.
During the first week of production we will also record
our artists performance so that we have it ready when
the animation is completed. Before we start creating the
animation, we will attend an introduction course from Mr
Wills in IT to show us the basics of …
