Task 1
1. In what ways does your media
product use, develop or challenge
forms and conventions of real media
product?
2. Genre
In our film Not So Lucky we used 2
different genres, the first genre we used
was Drama and the second genre or
sub-genre we used was crime. We
chose these 2 genres as we wanted to
make a film that would build up tension
like a drama but also have some crime
in it too.
3. Camera Shots
We used a variety of camera
angles including zoom in,
zoom out, low angle shot,
close up, mid shot and shot
reverse shot.
We used a variety of shots
so that the audience will be
able will be able to link back
to the film.
4. Editing techniques
While editing our film we
used editing techniques like
match cut, jump cut and
overlapping editing with
some of the music and the
audio.
With us using editing
techniques we have jumped
from one scene to the next as
it would be boring if we saw
him walk home. So we
jumped from one scene to
another scene.
5. Sound
The music we wanted to use in our movie
was something that started of quiet and
started to get louder and started to build
up tension.
The other piece of music we got was that
this person has just won £4.4 million and is
checking his bank account, his heart is
starting to get faster and faster and the
tension builds up, so we wanted a piece of
music that would fit his heart beat getting
faster and faster.
6. Costumes
The only costumes we used was our everyday
wear as everyone in our film was acting the
age of 16 to 30, so we wanted to make it look
casual and realistic as possible.
The locations we used were at someone’s
house, the shop which in which one of the
casts parents own, the bank machine next to
the bus station and a park that was close to
where we could shoot all of the film in a
couple of days.
The only prop that we used throughout the
film was the lottery ticket.
7. Typography
We kept the font colour white as we did not
want a colour that would blend with our
background; the white would stand out and is
visible for everyone to see.
We wanted the font size not to be too big at
the start when you see it saying starting Jamie,
we wanted to keep it small enough that it does
not take up a lot of the screen and you can’t
see what is happening in the background but
we did not want to have it too small that you
can barely read it.
And then when it comes to the title sequence
we wanted it to start of small and then slowly
get bigger to make it more of an impact and
stand out.
8. Iconography
At the start of the film we see someone
lying on the floor and someone standing
above him, as he runs away the idea to
get across to the audience is that this
person has just got beaten up by the
person standing above him, so this
would be the crime sub-genre in our
film.
While the drama part of the film would
be when he has picked this ticket up off
the floor and scene that his number
have come up on the lottery, when he
checks his balance we cut it off so that
the audience has to think what would he
do with all this money.
