Homeland Security Vs Community Policing
By mid–1800 American police copied Peel's principles and update them to social conditions in
American communities.Community policing was officially started in the USA starting in the 1970s
to 1980s, Peel's principles were still present. Community policing is an organizational strategy that
attempts to reduce crime by improving quality of life. This strategy creates new policies, recruits
different type of officers, change in primary objectives, type of services delivered, updated training
as well as a change in supervision of street officers. This included bringing back foot patrols
consistent beat assignments improved relationships between community and the officers. This
strategy supported maintaining order like Peels police force and training ... Show more content on

Does Community Policing allow the police to keep homeland security a priority? Different police
chiefs believe differently on this. Chiefs with 4 year degrees from departments that use community
policing at higher levels also believe that community policing can improve homeland
security.Oliver(2006) Priorities diverted from community to homeland security which lead the
federal government to fund homeland with 41 billion(2004) Congressional Budget Office, compared
with community policing budget 400 million(Office of Community Oriented Policing Services,
2004). The funding was less than half for community policing than it was before 2001, which
Violent Crime Control Act gave 8.8 billion for. Many believe that police get a lot of intelligence
from the relationship they have with communities that could prevent a terrorist attack(Henry 2002).
The investment in community policing could contribute to strong information for Homeland security
to work with and be workable with each other(Murray 2005). Well others argue that community
policing can work along with homeland security because they have different strategies and
objectives (De Guzman 2002). Pelfrey(2005) believes adapting homeland security with community
policing is best because it allows the community be involved and gain trust. International
Association of Chiefs of Police deem necessary for the success of homeland security is to have
community policing. 9–11 also brought positive reactions to community policing since many
citizens support grew after the attack for the police and there presence in the community(Fridell,
2004).After 9–11 (Ortiz, Hendrick, Suggie(2007) showed that there was an increase in community
policing efforts especially in Arab

Human Ecology Theory And Community Theory
Community Theory
In the Macro level of social work, communities are the primary settings for human behavior.
Communities are clusters of people who have something in common. A major social work
perspective views communities as entities where citizens can organize or be organized in order to
address mutual concerns and improve their over–all quality of life. Throughout this paper I will
discuss four conceptual perspectives of communities. I will cover the following, Human Ecology,
Socio–Psychological, Structural, and Functionalist.
These perspectives are important for a social worker to understand in order to create change for the
individuals in a community. In the process of explaining each perspective I will also discuss the key
concepts ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
These characteristics are usually race, ethnicity, religion, social pressure, or personal choice.
These Ecological concepts demographics, competition, segregation and integration can help social
workers analyze a community in terms of its fairness and support to all of its members. One of the
strengths gathered from this perspective is that it allows for the issues to be identified and it
implements change as needed. The Human Ecology perspective can help frame subsequent
questions like how to change the situation. It has concern for the individuals within the community
but its main focus is on the environment. With the focus on the environment it will be better to
determine why people behave the way they do. One of the concepts of this perspective is also one of
tis strengths and that is when integration occurs. Members will come together and function as a
whole. However, this theory does have its weaknesses. For one when the demographics mentioned
are becoming unlivable members will compete and segregate themselves. This causes the
community to always be in chaos. Viewing communities from a Human Ecology perspective it
provides a useful assessment mechanism for understanding why people act as they do within the
context of the larger community macro system.
Social–Psychological Theory
This theory is defined on how members within a community feel about themselves as well as their
behavior

Eviction Sociological Perspective
Eviction, while it hurts the family the most, also takes a toll on the communities in the form of
ingroups and outgroups. In his book, Evicted, Matthew Desmond says, "Eviction even affects the
communities that displaced families leave behind. Neighbors who cooperate with and trust one
another can make their streets safer and more prosperous"(p. 298). To make those streets safer and
to develop trust and a sense of security, in–groups are created by those in the neighborhood who talk
to each other often and form a friendly relationship. Eviction can break that relationship and
sometimes result in the removal of the security and trust in the ingroups. It also creates worry about

Neighborhood Watch Proposal
Neighborhood Watch Proposal
Introduction A Neighborhood Watch Program is a community–implemented program that assists
with preventing crime. This program was started in the 1970's by the National Sheriff's Association
to encourage members of various communities to observe and report on suspicious activities within
their neighborhoods. The Neighborhood Watch Program's purpose is to improve safety within a
neighborhood. Providing a study on communities that are utilizing the Neighborhood Watch
Programs will give insight into a neighborhood that should be able to come together to fight against
crime and attempt to retake their community from criminals. This proposal will promote some ...

Neighborhood watch meetings may be held in places such as a local high school gym, a community
center, or even in a resident's home.
The Benefits of a Neighborhood Watch Program Resource programs implemented through a
neighborhood watch would be beneficial to public safety and help to unite citizens with public
safety officials. The two groups would have the opportunity to work together and combine their
individual strengths and knowledge. This joining of the two would help to improve the lifestyle
within the community and allow for issues occurring in these urban areas to be addressed.
Assistance from the police department would also help the effectiveness of the program because law
enforcement would build a partnership with the community's members. Residents of the community
will have more faith in the safety of their neighborhood as well as restore their faith in the police
officers working with them. Other departments play an active role within the neighborhood watch
programs; the department of transportation, the fire department, city council, and animal control
departments. If these departments would unite and accept responsibility in eliminating and
decreasing the crime issues within the community, residents' fears would be reduced and they would
aid in improving the quality of life significantly. The residents in the community will eventually
start to view the city and public safety officers as being

Public Health : Preventing Avoidable Injuries Essay
Public health is preventing, educating, revealing, communicating and researching in an effort to
optimize the health of a community. Nurses play a critical role in public health by working to
prevent avoidable injuries and accidents. Nurses educate the community by providing information to
promote healthy behaviors and a healthier environment. Statistics and observations also play a
critical role in public health by revealing health discrepancies in communities. Public health
involves conducting research that guides best practices. According to the American Public Health
Association, "Public health promotes and protects the health of people and the communities where
they live, learn, work and play" (2016). Overall, public health is a commitment to improvement.
A windshield survey is "observations of various components of the community, such as housing,
open spaces, transportation, race, ethnicity, restaurants, and stores (Truglio–Londrigan & Lewenson,
2013). Observations provide subjective knowledge of a neighborhood. The knowledge and data
collected can provide guidance in areas of the neighborhood or community that need improvement
and identify areas that promote health. A windshield survey provides information about a
community's determinant of health, or what is promoted and deterring health in the community.
Once determinants of health are identified, that information can be used to prioritize community
needs and promote action towards resolving those needs.

General Concept Of Security Communities
General concept of security communities
In accordance to the global political theory, the idea of forming a security community was initially
established by Deutsch in 1957, with the dominant purpose of promoting a "sense of community "
that believes in the concept of "peaceful change". In a further elaboration, the emergence of such
communities have integrated individuals in a group, allowing social problems to be resolved
effectively in a peaceful manner via institutionalized procedures, without the reliance and usage of
physical forces.
Security communities have been classified into two basic types, an amalgamated and pluralist form.
In an amalgamated community, there would be two or more independent political states merged and
form one large unit that is in charged and governed by only one common government, such as the
USA. On the other hand, under the pluralistic form of security community, state members are also
came together for negotiation and discussion over political issues, but formally retaining under a
sovereign government, for example, the EU (European Union), the Canada–US and Mexico, and
ASEAN (Association of South East Asian Nations). Base on early postwar researches and analysis,
pluralistic communities have been extremely vigorous and success as the process of formation is
considered to be simpler in attaining and preserving than their counterparts.

A Collective Identity Of Europe
Post–war European nations were faced with the task of restructuring their states after the devastating
war. A collective agreement was made for a political body to help stabilize much of Europe. The
Community provided external political structure that would provide the means necessary to create a
stable economy and develop technologies, but in order to do so there would need to be a collective
identity of Europe. As nation–states were trying to redefine their history and assert their
independence it became a delicate balance between maintaining their own identity and joining in the
Community that would impose new regulation but also provide the resources necessary to rebuild
economically. This struggle to maintain a national identity ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

The benefit was that nation–states could now have their own domestic economy and still benefit
from the advancing international markets that were more accessible.
However, economics cannot be viewed as an independent unit. How the market works is
inadvertently based on a cultural set of ideals and markets can function differently from state to
state. In order to formalize an institution to control the economy new regulations must be set in
place. In the sense of the European Community all nations states had to join together to create a set
of rules that everyone agreed upon. By abiding by new rules nations in return could expect to benefit
from a larger political body. This all sounded very promising, a new and stronger institution would
regulate the economy, and provide security for the vulnerable post–war nations. In doing so, Europe
would create a collective identity, a sense of nationality. Although after the war the idea of a stronger
unified economy sounded promising it could also be viewed as a hindrance in the long term. The
European Community's goal was to create a unification of the nation–states but from the viewpoint
of a individual state this could be a loss of independence and identity. This communal identity
"made western European states resemble each other much more than they resembled those of other
places or other times." The focus was no longer on

Concluding Overall, TRUCE staff should work on the way that they go about communicating with
the students and focus on using elaborated code more often in order to provide them with a skill set
that will prepare them for future interviews, jobs, and careers. Additionally, HCZ should consider
slowing down the expansion of the organization so that they can provide more stable jobs, and
livable wages for their staff, as the goal of the organization is to help diminish generational poverty.
During my time at TRUCE, I witnessed many of the problems that are prevalent within non–profit
organizations such as low job security, high turnover rates, and bad communication among the staff.
After processing these different issues have definitely impacted my interest in working with non–
profit organizations at the ground–level, in the future, I believe that I could be more effective at an
administrative level. Nonetheless, this internship has given me insight into the deeper complications
that occur within non–profit organizations and witness firsthand the troubles that face people who
are working directly with the population the organization is serving. These observations will help
me be more effective and mindful when making decisions at an administrative level. I believe that
HCZ is a wonderful organization and is a strong model for other non–profit organizations, but all
organizations have room further development and are not immune to

Karl Deutsch's Theory Of The Security Community Theory
Introduction:
I have selected "Security Community Theory" to write a seminar paper. This seminar paper presents
a conceptualization of NATO by exploring its role as a security community in European security. In
the late 1950s, Karl Deutsch and his colleagues implicitly challenged the governing approach to
security by exploring the concept of "security communities". This was a clear break with traditional
approaches to security, which emphasized the utility of military power and the inevitable nature of
military threats. They gave the idea of such a community where the component states had come to
reject the use or threat of force as a mechanism for resolving disputes. According to security
community theory economic and cultural cooperation ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This contribution was a smoking grenade for traditional interpretations of security. A security
community is a region in which a large–scale use of violence such as war has become very unlikely
or even unthinkable. In the late 1950s, Karl Deutsch and his colleagues challenged the traditional
and governing approach to security. They explored the concept of "security communities". Deutsch
identified a nascent security community: such a community where the component states had come to
reject the use or threat of force as a mechanism for resolving disputes among these states, such a
security community which emphasized the utility of military power and the inevitable nature of
military threats. Moreover, Deutsch argued that economic and cultural cooperation was a far better
route toward the formation of such a security community than was common membership in a
traditional military alliance. Deutsch and his collaborators defined a security community as "a group
of people" believing "that they have come to agreement on at least this one point: that common
social problems must and can be resolved by processes of 'peaceful change'". Peaceful change was
defined as "the resolution of social problems, normally by institutionalized procedures, without
resort to large–scale physical force". People in a security community are also bound by the "sense of
community", the mutual sympathy, trust, and common

Essay on The Importance of Community
Community is very important and has many factors like kinship, unity, and identity. Community
helps society because it creates solutions, provides security and reveals dedication. It discovers
truthfulness. Communities are part of everyday life and have positive affects on its members.
Communities can be found everywhere and can be created anywhere. You may be unaware of it, but
you are part of a community not only based on your location, but also based on your lifestyle, your
religion, your heritage, your education, or your abilities. As Hewitt once said, "Community provides
a psychological world and a place of identification for its members." Identifying yourself with a
particular community may be easier than it ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Observing others' behaviors lets one realize and understand more about different types and kinds of
people. Seeing how certain groups or communities act or react to situations lets us see more
perspective and hopefully appreciate their point of view. It is important to be part of communities
for much of the same reason. When you are part of a group, you understand and compromise with
the other members of the group. Discussing issues involving the community helps to lead to
solutions. Talking things through with other members improves social skills as well as relationships.
Knowing how people feel about certain issues let you know more about that person, and in turn, you
learn more about yourself. Hearing what other people have to say may sway your own opinions
about something. For example, maybe you are part of a church you thought you really believed in,
but hearing the discussions at the church meetings you start to think that you do not belong in this
community. Though that specific church may be the right place for many, you learn that you need a
new church community. Churches are communities because the members are unified in their
common beliefs. These communities are like families because the members support and help each
other religiously and they feel secure. Being a sound part of a community, you should continuously
learn more and more about yourself. As a member of a club, taking part in meetings and activities let
you learn

Security At The Umpqua Community College
Johnathan Good
12 December, 2015
ENG 2100–08
Smith
With the recent shooting at the Umpqua Community College in Oregon, security on college
campuses has become a major topic. Some campuses have increased their security while others have
kept theirs the same. One of these campuses that has kept its security at the status quo is Ohio State
University. This amount of security is what Wright State lacks. It is understandable that the size of
the campus of Wright State is nowhere near that of Ohio State and that Wright State is near the
Wright Patterson Air Force Base, but having only a couple campus police cruisers roaming around
campus is not enough to prevent a shooting so there needs to be a greater police presence on
campus.
Over the past ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The proposition that I have in mind for this is that Wright State needs to have at least fifteen officers
on duty during campus hours. I know that this will not be perfect in preventing a shooting or an
attack on campus so I am also proposing that there needs to be a rapid response unit that specializes
in active shooter scenarios that is able to get to campus within twenty minutes as well as a keycard
system that only allows people into certain buildings with authorized cards, in this case student IDs
and visitor passes. First, a greater police presence will serve as a deterrent for people to avoid
attacking the campus. Second, having a keycard system that works only with student IDs and visitor
passes can act as a deterrent just by making it more difficult for a person to get into a building.
Lastly, having a rapid response team will reduce the time that a gunman has to perform their
criminal act thus reducing the number of lives lost.
Having a greater police presence in an area alone reduces the likelihood of a shooting to occur on
campus. But they cannot just be patrolling the campus in their cruisers, there have to be some that
roam around the campus on foot. With recent events that are stereotyping police officers as racists, it
is understandable that this might not be one of the best decisions to make. Keep in mind though that

Good Neighbor Nextdoor Problem Analysis
The Good Neighbor Nextdoor program seeks to address two problems facing communities across
America Today. The first problem is the shortage of doctors in rural and undesirable communities.
The second problem is the prevalence of blight and vacant housing in many of the same
communities suffering from a shortage of doctors. Both of these problems have solutions, by
offering citizenship to foreign doctors willing to move into communities having both a shortage of
doctors and a surplus of vacant housing. The final benefit offered by the Good Neighbor Nextdoor
program will be in the long–term economic growth within the community caused by the opening of

Characteristics Of A Discourse Community
The human identity is worn as a mask with shapeshifting capabilities and espionage. In the real
world, this mask appears simplistic; however, the internet is an abstract space of node connections
that streams a wild flurry of ideas, people, and identities. One's mask does not need a definition to
stand firmly in this chaos but merely need to express what is hidden beneath the mask: humanity.
That is what it means to have the right to anonymity, the freedom of expression and the right to be
protected from outside entities who will stop at nothing to forcefully seize the mask along with
physical data. One discourse community dedicated to protecting the rights to anonymity is the Tor
Project, a worldwide group that helps create an anonymous browser to hide identity details and
participates in establishing it in journalism, academia, activism, and normal users. The exploration
of the rights of anonymity will be examined through the discourse community characteristics of Tor
by reviewing Porters and Swales works in discourse communities, by using methods of primary
investigation through interviewing Tor members, and discussing how Tor fits into Swales six
characteristics of a discourse community.

of a discourse community. While Swales was the primary source of information for Porter's own

Community Food Security And Food Availability And...
INTRODUCTION
Community food security relates to food availability and accessibility. To be considered community
food secure, all individuals in a community should have access to sufficient amounts of safe,
nutritious, culturally appropriate food that are produced in an environmentally sustainable way
(Desjardins et al, 2002). However, reduced agriculture land due to increased urbanization has
decreased the accessibility of food to the public and has led to food insecurity in many communities
locally and globally. The rising urbanized general public has a limited understanding of food since
food is usually produced some miles away (Iverson et al, 2014). In recent years, the popularity of
urban agriculture and community gardens are raising in many cities in North America (Iverson et al,
2014). A majority of civic politicians come to believe that healthier, safer and fresher food could be
grown in the middle of city at a suitable cost, which can improve food availability, affordability and
accessibility locally (Wong & Hallsworth, 2016). Urban agriculture can improve the access to
healthy food, can develop sustainable food systems, and advance food justice for all people in the
struggling community. It is a solution to address the issue of community food security.

Miss Simpson Reflection
When interviewing Miss Simpson on November 01, 2017, I learned that fifty–years ago, Lockwood
was a predominately African–American neighborhood. It was a neighborhood where neighbors
would speak during encounters, participate in engagements in the community, take walks around the
block, entertain each other in their homes, and watch after the children. Essentially, it was more than
a neighborhood. It was a community. Fast forward to 2017, things are different at first sight. New
houses that scream, "Gentrification" are being built on almost every block. At first, they seem to be
out of place as they stand in comparison to the older houses. Houses that have witnessed more
things than I could ever imagine. Houses that I would soon learn to have occupied by multiple
generations. Houses that had a story.
While none of the new houses I saw embodied any of the qualities that drew me to admire the older
houses, I felt this sense that they were the first step in this process of transformation that was taking
place in the Lockwood neighborhood. As a looked up to saw the view of downtown and the sound
of busy cars, I thought to myself, I should have expected this to happen sooner or later.
Parallel to the older houses, the older residents in Lockwood have a story. A story that illustrates the
love for one community, even during rough times. I quickly learned after conversing with Miss
Simpson, her granddaughter, and Mr. Bell that Lockwood to them is not just a neighborhood that is
positioned perfectly next to downtown Charlotte. It is a neighborhood that has always extended
open arms to outsiders, especially those who were not familiar with the area. I understood this to be
true as I sat on their porches to interview them with great enthusiasm and kindness.
While it might have taken some time to get used to, Lockwood nevertheless was a community
where anyone could feel at home very quickly. All it took was the everyday genuine greeting from a
neighbor. Walking down the streets of Lockwood, this still exists as I personally witnessed the
genuine encounters myself. Gentlemen in their yards saying, "Good morning," and the occasional
head nod made me feel right at home. But what is different, as stated by residents of

Community Reflection
It would be an understatement to say that I have been blessed to grow up in a neighborhood where I
knew nothing bad would happen to me. It would be an understatement to say that I can go to bed
knowing all the doors in the house are locked and my house is secure. It would be not be false to say
that these things are given to me each day, but it would be an understatement to say I am thankful
for each thing. An error is falling down your stairs because you did not turn a light on, but a mistake
would be taking any of this security for granted. I know these things not because of what I have
achieved in my life, but a result of my fathers job. He stands as the fire captain in Davenport, Iowa.
Listening to some of the horror stories from his job, has widened my perspective on not only life,
but in the small minor details surrounding everything. I can say I am more grateful for being able to
have the understanding of safety, that if ever in a bad situation, I would step in to take risks and
protect those around me. In today's society, crime is such a common thing and often occurs within
small communities. I remember reading and learning about history and how communities would
always be there to help one another. But today, community is such an overused word, and does not
describe what one is at all. The foundation of a community revolves around the people who risk
their lives day in and day out, to be there to protect us and get us out of harm's way.

How Do Communities And Academics Address Food Security?
How Do Communities and Academics Address Food Security?
In between 1990–92 and 2010–12, the number of undernourished people, who mostly live in
developing region, specifically South–Eastern Asia, has been rapidly decreasing for about 44%
(FAO, 2012). Through this past few years, communities, government, and practitioners have done
many efforts to enhance individual's food security level. BYRC, or known as Broadway Youth
Resource Centre teams up with several programs to provide food, life, housing, employment, and
education services to low socioeconomic youths, between age 13–24 years old. Other communities
have been working to maintain sustainable food systems through building community gardens,
volunteering, and buying local produce. Moreover, government also plays a critical role in
subsidizing funds or offering volunteer opportunities and training programs, and finally, practitioner
has invented several sustainable agriculture techniques, including organic farming. Unfortunately,
these efforts are not well received by every individual in the whole nation, resulting in the expansion
number of undernourished people in some other parts of the world, for example in sub–Saharan
Africa and Western Asia (FAO, 2012). By providing some synergies and tensions between
communities, government, and practitioner approaches to improve food security, this paper is
assessed to show the reasons why the progress of the efforts is unstable or sometimes diminishes,

Comparison Of Homeland Security And The Implementation Of...
The research topic is Homeland security and the implementation of community policing.
Community policing promotes community involvement, and problem solving techniques, to reduce
fear of crime and social disorder. Homeland security is the use of government agencies especially
law enforcement and security to reduce, prevent, and investigate terrorism and other crimes related
to homeland security. The goal of homeland security and community policing can complement each
other and share same goals. This is an important topic because of the current terror attacks and
threats against the United States, France, and other nations. Community policing may be able to help
prevent and control terrorism. Community policing has been implemented to help bring the
community and the police together. After the terrorist attacks on the World Trade Center on
September 11th 2001, law enforcement started to neglect community policing in favor of homeland
security. The ability to implement community policing and homeland security initiatives can help

(FTCC) ribbon cutting of their campus cafeteria. Not only was the ribbon cutting taking place, but
the revealing of the campus cafeteria name was designated for this event as well. Trojan Eatery,
symbolic of the campus mascot, was derived from Michael Morrison a student who submitted the
winning name of the new cafeteria. This paper discusses my reflection of a community group visit
as it relates to the purpose of the group, the theory underpinning the group, a discussion of the
leadership, and other dynamics of the group that are relevant. In addition, five questions are
displayed that I now have about group work because of the group ... Show more content on

Keen the president of FTCC gave a speech, but while he was giving the speech campus security was
visible making sure participants could hear Dr. Keen and that everyone was safe. Campus security
was also awaiting the arrival of participants such as FTCC campus board members, saving parking
spaces for these individuals, and guiding them to the main event location. In addition, other staff
members assisted with ensuring students and individuals within the community had appropriate
directions to the event. Customer service is an imperative part of any group, and there was a photo
booth set up that allowed participants the opportunity to receive a free portrait keychain that would
assist as a discount ticket when utilized at the Trojan Eatery. It was enjoyable watching the different
dynamics that the group had to offer, the culinary department served fruit, cake, and water free of
charge, campus security had the responsibility of ensuring the safety of the participants and
providing directions, students enjoyed the free food and taking portraits, and staff enjoyed the event
as well.
Five Questions
After having the opportunity to complete my community group reflection visit, there were questions
that needed attention, those being:
1) Where were the contractors, interior designers, and architect? Why were they not included in the
opening of the Trojan Eatery? Were they not invited?
2) How effective has the opening of the Trojan Eatery been in assisting with providing a community
environment for students, faculty, staff, and the residing community?
3) Why are there food trucks such as The Wing Company on campus directly across from the Trojan

Community Service Synthesis Essay
Whenever I was living in Houston, I lived in a community that was very protective but, there were
several problems that were involved in my community. However, even though the community that I
stayed in was all gated and the people that were residents of the community could only get in and
out of the gate by using a code that was given to them. There are many areas throughout my
community that needed some improvement in each and every single area. One area in my
community that needs a change is the opening of the gate where, when a resident of the community
or a person that also has their code comes into the gate, a person that does not reside there can just
easily come into the gate right behind them with no questions asked. They should use service
volunteers, with the help of a security guard, to stand at the gate and open the gate whenever a
resident comes home, where they have to show their ID badge at the gate in order to come in. On the
other hand, the schools there were all schools where education came first, but one thing that can be
changed about the school would be to get improved security guards in order to protect the students
more and keep the students from any injury, mischief, or threat. Service volunteers should also be
used in the community to make the community a healthier place by picking up trash and cleaning
the community, making it a restored living ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Key Club Narrative
Since I was born, I have grown up in a home where serving is a key virtue to live by. So as I
budding freshman, I was excited to join the service clubs at my high school. However, when I saw
the clubs my school offered, I was surprised to find out that there were not any service clubs for me
to participate in. As a girl with a passion, I realized something needed to be done. So I gathered
some friends and we decided to start a service club at our school. One of my friends suggested that
we charter a Key Club, an international high school service club that she had at her past high school.
To get chartered, we had to get support from the school and the local community. We had to obtain a
sponsorship from a local Kiwanis club. It can be hard for adults to take teenagers seriously but with
firm persistence we prevailed and as a unit, we successfully chartered a Key Club chapter, which

Then an idea became clear. That year, a security guard at our school was diagnosed with cancer.
Everyone in our school felt the loss of his presence. We decided to set up a fundraiser to raise money
for his surgery. We premiered High School Musical 2 for students to watch and charged a small
entry fee of $1.00. The fellow club officers worked together to try and figure out how to effectively
host a fundraiser. We divided the members up into groups. Some of them collected ticket sales,
others help set up the movie in the auditorium, and others sold treats at the screening. That night we
raised over $600 for the security guard from donations and entrance fee costs. Seeing the smile and
respect he had for us wanting to help him made me thankful that I could be a part of something that
made his life easier. Successfully fundraising for the security guard was one of the most rewarding
moments I have had while leading Key

The Broken Window Model Of Wilson And Keiling
According to http://cebcp.org, "Broken window model focuses on the importance of disorder (e.g.,
broken windows) in generating and sustaining more serious crime." Wilson and Kelling are the
creator of this model. They notice that neighborhoods who have high crime rate, consider of
"disreputable people". They are the people who hang out on the corner, the mental ill who pace back
and forth up and down the streets, and those juvenile delinquents that love to pickpocket other
people. Most of the communities are low income minority communities that Wilson and Keiling
looked at. Wilson and Keiling does not think that poverty, racial segregation, and residential
mobility and other social issues is not the root causes to high crime rates, They think to restore order
needs to be placed in these community as Nixon will say "Law and Order". They think the
government cannot eliminate the root causes. Policing should be enforce more into the community
to create a safe haven for these communities. By not focusing on social reform, rehabilitation is too
costly and difficult. Wilson said to increase cost of crime by increasing punishment in prison. It will
help measure deterrence, and if it does not work incapacitation. He also the believe that the root
causes is caused by causal fallacy. Wilson and Keiling believed that officers need to go back to the
style of enforcement. They explain that there should be more foot patrol have officers get know the
resident while maintaining order.

The staff/employees of Oxfam influence the charity greatly and are the main reason as to why the
charity is successful. They provide the friendly customer service to those who decide to shop at the
Oxfam stores. Staff usually do work for free so this allows Oxfam to spend more on developing
third world countries, again this has an impressive influence.
Suppliers want steady orders and prompt payment, they also want to feel valued by the company
that they supply.
Suppliers are interested in supplying Tesco with goods because of the business they get from them
and the profit that they receive. They influence Tesco because if the suppliers go out of business
then Tesco will have to find new suppliers that may not offer the same high standards as the
previous supplier.
Suppliers/donators influence Oxfam greatly. Without the public supplying Oxfam shops with goods
to sell, the shops would fail and would not be able to raise money to support the charities work for
third world countries.
This may be a sole trader or partnership. In a company it would be the shareholders. A charity would

A windshield survey is an assessment and evaluation of a community performed by traveling
throughout the community in a car or public transportation to make observations about a
community. The data gathered will help identify health care strengths and weaknesses in the

A community is a social group established by geographic boundaries or common values and

structure and exhibit and create norms, values and, social institutions (Stanhope, 2008).

Analysis Of The Kern 's Article ' Gendered Urbanization '
In relation to this, Kern's article "Gendered Urbanization" illustrates how the factors attracting
affluent women to the new condominiums in Parkdale are often the same instruments of oppression
against the residents; according to her research, an attractive aspect of the new condominiums are
security measures put into place to keep out the impoverished, and therefore dangerous,
communities within Parkdale, such as a 24–hour concierge, double locks on all apartment doors, and
a video monitor at the front desk. Even if "street[s] are very quiet" (Kern 372, III) the design of the
buildings project and imply a criminal, unpredictable nature onto the original residents of Parkdale,
and "enshrines these expectations into the built environment". One resident interviewed stated " my
[apartment] has twenty–four–hour security, and they don't let anybody in without talking to security.
Residents are not allowed to let anybody in, even if you open the doors" (Kern 372, IV). Therefore,
the community lost to the shift in housing rates is not replaced with incoming residents, but rather
the two communities are segregated by classist infrastructure and stereotypes that push the lower
income people to the outskirts of Parkdale. This leads to a huge sense of isolation and unease in the
community of original Parkdale residents because, not only are they threatened and disadvantaged
financially, the implantation on these condominiums are actively keeping them out.

Community Policing And Public Security
Topic: Community Policing
Name
Affiliated institute In every corner of the world, security to the public has always been a concern. It
is a responsibility of the government to provide security to its people. To ensure that there is a
reliable security to the public, the government must streamline some approaches to security threats
and effectively prevent or counter them. It is a common understanding that in most of the times in
our lives, we happen to interact with the people who break the law or we witness an action which
supposes to be punishable by the law. In the event that we have information that would improve the
state's security levels, we should willingly give it to the police. Contrary to this, many of the

When a place is secure to live or visit, will obviously develop, since the members will actively
involve themselves in developmental activities. Although police is the body mandated with the
provision of security to the public, it is not possible for the police to provide reliable security while
working alone. Community policing gives every member of the public a role to play in ensuring
their land is safe to live in. The security is accorded through the combined efforts by both the police
and the members of the public. The members of the public play a role by providing/ reporting any
security concern to the police, and working with them hand in hand to restore/ maintain peace in the
society. Gramckow and Jacoby (1993:30) concluded that community policing is a good strategy to
address the concerns and problems of communities, since it is decentralized, proactive, and deals
with crime prevention and the fear of crime. Since the police stay within the community, it becomes
easy for faster response in cases of emergency. Whenever the police are called upon for help, they
can turn up within a short while.
Positive relationship between police and members of the public
It is common that police are not regarded as good 'people' in the face of the members of the public.
This is usually due to the nature of their work, as they work to enforce the law. Community policing
has played a major role in changing how the community perceived the

They mentioned their desire to learn to speak English. Sue had been trained in adult literacy and

Analysis Of ' Sisterhood Is Complicated By Ruth Padawer
Every person deserves the right to experience a sense of community amongst people who share a
common characteristic. A sense of fellowship amongst similar people allows a person to become
more comfortable with who they are through interactions with others who are going through–or
have gone through–the same triumphs or hardships. Without this feeling of belonging, one could be
driven into insanity. Anxiety due to isolation and desolation could run rampant through a person's

Persuasive Essay On Volunteering
eather French Henry once said, "Volunteering is at the very core of being a human, no one has made
it in life without someone else's help," (Volunteering Solutions 3). Similarly, the butterfly is a very
small natural force which over a period of time gains a cumulatively large effect that produces great
beauty. This phenomenon begins first with insurmountable struggles and works its way through a
snarled mess of webbing and eventually takes flight. With every effort, the first step in volunteering
is usually the hardest. However, once the intention is set, the flight of volunteering takes off. In fact,
many scholars over the years have argued over how involved an individual should be in one's
community. Some believe the largest reward a person can achieve from giving their time and money
to the good of their community is the satisfaction, accomplishment, and pride that comes from
within. Ultimately, an individual's role should be founded on one's ability to be impactful to their
community, this impact can be quick or long lasting but in the end, the results of volunteering
demonstrate leadership and stewardship which through example inspires others to do the same,
creating a better place for all to live.
The purpose of giving stems from the ability of each individual to be impactful with their own
actions. Through the action of giving to one's community, the meaning of the action does not lie in
how much money or how much volunteering is produced, rather how much

Argumentative Essay On A Raisin In The Sun
A Raisin in the Sun, by Lorraine Hansberry shows how people's actions can be perceived as both
good and bad. In this play, the Younger family is trying to achieve the American dream, "the ideals
of freedom, equality, and opportunity traditionally held to be available to every American"(cite
dictionary.com). The Youngers are a black family living in a poor part of Chicago. The family
inherits ten thousand dollars from a relative. Each family member has their own idea about how to
use this money to fulfill their dreams. The play uses the decisions of the family members to make
the reader think about what are the right choices. Mama is the matriarch of the family, and she wants
to use the money to buy a house in a white neighborhood. She wants to move to this neighborhood
because it is a better environment for her family. Lindor is a man who lives in the white
neighborhood and he appears to make decisions for the benefit of the family. The decisions that
Mama and Lindor make and the actions they take can be viewed as good or bad for both the
individual and the community.
However, Hansberry uses a man by the name of Linder who tries to help himself and the Younger
family, but with that, he is promoting segregation. On the other hand, with mama moving, they are
putting their lives at risk, however they will be moving past segregation and trying to make all lives
equal. Both Lindor and Mama were thinking about themselves and not others around the
community.
In the play, Mama, makes the decision to move into a new house, with this choice Mama puts her
family in a tough situation. This benefits the family in several ways such as boosting their moral,
and allowing them to live in a more pleasant area. As Mama told Walter, " Walter Lee– it makes a
difference in a man when he can walk on floors that belong to him" (2.1.92). One huge factor of
moving to a better area, if confidence. With this boost of a better house, it could make Walter and
the rest of his family work harder, allowing them to make more money. However, there have been
recent bombings on colored houses in white neighborhoods. As Johnson mentioned "you mean you
ain't read 'bout them colored people that was bombed out of their place out there?"

affect residents' health is the fact that it is the base of the foothills of the San Gabriel Mountains.
This can cause an increase in smog conditions because the smog tends to stack up against the
mountains when there is not enough of an off–shore flow of wind to remove the smog. This can
affect allergies, asthma and can also cause other respiratory problems.
Nutrition, physical activity and obesity is one of the Healthy People 2020 leading health indicators

Should The Dental Community Care About Cyber Security? Essay
COURSE TITLE: CYBER TBD Reference Manual Table of Contents – To be developed Section 1.
Overview of Current Cyber Security Threats Why should the Dental Community Care about Cyber
Security? Imagine this: A virtual intruder, like Tony Soprano, quietly downloads countless patient
files containing private medical information – names, procedures, medications, related claims data –
which are then sold and resold across the globe. Or imagine that a few laptops containing much of
the same type of data fall into the wrong hands. Such security breaches are increasingly making
headlines as banks, brokerages, and even government offices grapple with such embarrassing and
damaging thefts. This scenario – which could make a shady character like Tony Soprano a nice
amount of cash – could be a nightmare for a health plan. Or, imagine this: You are on vacation,
kayaking in Florida. Suddenly, the phone rings. It's your office, with alarming news. Your server has
been hacked, you are locked out of your electronic patient records, and you cannot access the
records until you pay a ransom to the hackers who infiltrated your practice's computer system. Your
practice is being held hostage! Until you can unlock these records, you are helpless. You cannot take
care of patients. You have no access to your appointment scheduler. You have no access to patient x–
rays. Should you pay the $500 that is being requested? In these cases above, what is at stake? Your
patients' privacy? Your

Homeland Security Vs Community Policing

  • 1. Homeland Security Vs Community Policing By mid–1800 American police copied Peel's principles and update them to social conditions in American communities.Community policing was officially started in the USA starting in the 1970s to 1980s, Peel's principles were still present. Community policing is an organizational strategy that attempts to reduce crime by improving quality of life. This strategy creates new policies, recruits different type of officers, change in primary objectives, type of services delivered, updated training as well as a change in supervision of street officers. This included bringing back foot patrols consistent beat assignments improved relationships between community and the officers. This strategy supported maintaining order like Peels police force and training ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Does Community Policing allow the police to keep homeland security a priority? Different police chiefs believe differently on this. Chiefs with 4 year degrees from departments that use community policing at higher levels also believe that community policing can improve homeland security.Oliver(2006) Priorities diverted from community to homeland security which lead the federal government to fund homeland with 41 billion(2004) Congressional Budget Office, compared with community policing budget 400 million(Office of Community Oriented Policing Services, 2004). The funding was less than half for community policing than it was before 2001, which Violent Crime Control Act gave 8.8 billion for. Many believe that police get a lot of intelligence from the relationship they have with communities that could prevent a terrorist attack(Henry 2002). The investment in community policing could contribute to strong information for Homeland security to work with and be workable with each other(Murray 2005). Well others argue that community policing can work along with homeland security because they have different strategies and objectives (De Guzman 2002). Pelfrey(2005) believes adapting homeland security with community policing is best because it allows the community be involved and gain trust. International Association of Chiefs of Police deem necessary for the success of homeland security is to have community policing. 9–11 also brought positive reactions to community policing since many citizens support grew after the attack for the police and there presence in the community(Fridell, 2004).After 9–11 (Ortiz, Hendrick, Suggie(2007) showed that there was an increase in community policing efforts especially in Arab ... • 3. Human Ecology Theory And Community Theory Community Theory In the Macro level of social work, communities are the primary settings for human behavior. Communities are clusters of people who have something in common. A major social work perspective views communities as entities where citizens can organize or be organized in order to address mutual concerns and improve their over–all quality of life. Throughout this paper I will discuss four conceptual perspectives of communities. I will cover the following, Human Ecology, Socio–Psychological, Structural, and Functionalist. These perspectives are important for a social worker to understand in order to create change for the individuals in a community. In the process of explaining each perspective I will also discuss the key concepts ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... These characteristics are usually race, ethnicity, religion, social pressure, or personal choice. These Ecological concepts demographics, competition, segregation and integration can help social workers analyze a community in terms of its fairness and support to all of its members. One of the strengths gathered from this perspective is that it allows for the issues to be identified and it implements change as needed. The Human Ecology perspective can help frame subsequent questions like how to change the situation. It has concern for the individuals within the community but its main focus is on the environment. With the focus on the environment it will be better to determine why people behave the way they do. One of the concepts of this perspective is also one of tis strengths and that is when integration occurs. Members will come together and function as a whole. However, this theory does have its weaknesses. For one when the demographics mentioned are becoming unlivable members will compete and segregate themselves. This causes the community to always be in chaos. Viewing communities from a Human Ecology perspective it provides a useful assessment mechanism for understanding why people act as they do within the context of the larger community macro system. Social–Psychological Theory This theory is defined on how members within a community feel about themselves as well as their behavior ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 5. Eviction Sociological Perspective Eviction, while it hurts the family the most, also takes a toll on the communities in the form of ingroups and outgroups. In his book, Evicted, Matthew Desmond says, "Eviction even affects the communities that displaced families leave behind. Neighbors who cooperate with and trust one another can make their streets safer and more prosperous"(p. 298). To make those streets safer and to develop trust and a sense of security, in–groups are created by those in the neighborhood who talk to each other often and form a friendly relationship. Eviction can break that relationship and sometimes result in the removal of the security and trust in the ingroups. It also creates worry about what the next renter will be like. This program was started in the 1970's by the National Sheriff's Association to encourage members of various communities to observe and report on suspicious activities within their neighborhoods. The Neighborhood Watch Program's purpose is to improve safety within a neighborhood. Neighborhood watch meetings may be held in places such as a local high school gym, a community center, or even in a resident's home. The Benefits of a Neighborhood Watch Program Resource programs implemented through a neighborhood watch would be beneficial to public safety and help to unite citizens with public safety officials. The two groups would have the opportunity to work together and combine their individual strengths and knowledge. This joining of the two would help to improve the lifestyle within the community and allow for issues occurring in these urban areas to be addressed. Assistance from the police department would also help the effectiveness of the program because law enforcement would build a partnership with the community's members. Residents of the community will have more faith in the safety of their neighborhood as well as restore their faith in the police officers working with them. Other departments play an active role within the neighborhood watch programs; the department of transportation, the fire department, city council, and animal control departments. If these departments would unite and accept responsibility in eliminating and decreasing the crime issues within the community, residents' fears would be reduced and they would aid in improving the quality of life significantly. • 9. Public Health : Preventing Avoidable Injuries Essay Public health is preventing, educating, revealing, communicating and researching in an effort to optimize the health of a community. Nurses play a critical role in public health by working to prevent avoidable injuries and accidents. Nurses educate the community by providing information to promote healthy behaviors and a healthier environment. Statistics and observations also play a critical role in public health by revealing health discrepancies in communities. Public health involves conducting research that guides best practices. According to the American Public Health Association, "Public health promotes and protects the health of people and the communities where they live, learn, work and play" (2016). Overall, public health is a commitment to improvement. A windshield survey is "observations of various components of the community, such as housing, open spaces, transportation, race, ethnicity, restaurants, and stores (Truglio–Londrigan & Lewenson, 2013). Observations provide subjective knowledge of a neighborhood. The knowledge and data collected can provide guidance in areas of the neighborhood or community that need improvement and identify areas that promote health. • 11. General Concept Of Security Communities General concept of security communities In accordance to the global political theory, the idea of forming a security community was initially established by Deutsch in 1957, with the dominant purpose of promoting a "sense of community " that believes in the concept of "peaceful change". In a further elaboration, the emergence of such communities have integrated individuals in a group, allowing social problems to be resolved effectively in a peaceful manner via institutionalized procedures, without the reliance and usage of physical forces. Security communities have been classified into two basic types, an amalgamated and pluralist form. In an amalgamated community, there would be two or more independent political states merged and form one large unit that is in charged and governed by only one common government, such as the USA. On the other hand, under the pluralistic form of security community, state members are also came together for negotiation and discussion over political issues, but formally retaining under a sovereign government, for example, the EU (European Union), the Canada–US and Mexico, and ASEAN (Association of South East Asian Nations). Base on early postwar researches and analysis, pluralistic communities have been extremely vigorous and success as the process of formation is considered to be simpler in attaining and preserving than their counterparts. • 13. A Collective Identity Of Europe Post–war European nations were faced with the task of restructuring their states after the devastating war. A collective agreement was made for a political body to help stabilize much of Europe. The Community provided external political structure that would provide the means necessary to create a stable economy and develop technologies, but in order to do so there would need to be a collective identity of Europe. As nation–states were trying to redefine their history and assert their independence it became a delicate balance between maintaining their own identity and joining in the Community that would impose new regulation but also provide the resources necessary to rebuild economically. This struggle to maintain a national identity ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The benefit was that nation–states could now have their own domestic economy and still benefit from the advancing international markets that were more accessible. However, economics cannot be viewed as an independent unit. How the market works is inadvertently based on a cultural set of ideals and markets can function differently from state to state. In order to formalize an institution to control the economy new regulations must be set in place. In the sense of the European Community all nations states had to join together to create a set of rules that everyone agreed upon. By abiding by new rules nations in return could expect to benefit from a larger political body. This all sounded very promising, a new and stronger institution would regulate the economy, and provide security for the vulnerable post–war nations. In doing so, Europe would create a collective identity, a sense of nationality. Although after the war the idea of a stronger unified economy sounded promising it could also be viewed as a hindrance in the long term. The European Community's goal was to create a unification of the nation–states but from the viewpoint of a individual state this could be a loss of independence and identity. This communal identity "made western European states resemble each other much more than they resembled those of other places or other times." The focus was no longer on ... An incident occurred one day at the end of program when the students were being dismissed at 3:20 P.M. Concluding Overall, TRUCE staff should work on the way that they go about communicating with the students and focus on using elaborated code more often in order to provide them with a skill set that will prepare them for future interviews, jobs, and careers. Additionally, HCZ should consider slowing down the expansion of the organization so that they can provide more stable jobs, and livable wages for their staff, as the goal of the organization is to help diminish generational poverty. During my time at TRUCE, I witnessed many of the problems that are prevalent within non–profit organizations such as low job security, high turnover rates, and bad communication among the staff. After processing these different issues have definitely impacted my interest in working with non– profit organizations at the ground–level, in the future, I believe that I could be more effective at an administrative level. Nonetheless, this internship has given me insight into the deeper complications that occur within non–profit organizations and witness firsthand the troubles that face people who are working directly with the population the organization is serving. • 17. Karl Deutsch's Theory Of The Security Community Theory Introduction: I have selected "Security Community Theory" to write a seminar paper. This seminar paper presents a conceptualization of NATO by exploring its role as a security community in European security. In the late 1950s, Karl Deutsch and his colleagues implicitly challenged the governing approach to security by exploring the concept of "security communities". This was a clear break with traditional approaches to security, which emphasized the utility of military power and the inevitable nature of military threats. They gave the idea of such a community where the component states had come to reject the use or threat of force as a mechanism for resolving disputes. According to security community theory economic and cultural cooperation ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This contribution was a smoking grenade for traditional interpretations of security. A security community is a region in which a large–scale use of violence such as war has become very unlikely or even unthinkable. In the late 1950s, Karl Deutsch and his colleagues challenged the traditional and governing approach to security. They explored the concept of "security communities". Deutsch identified a nascent security community: such a community where the component states had come to reject the use or threat of force as a mechanism for resolving disputes among these states, such a security community which emphasized the utility of military power and the inevitable nature of military threats. Moreover, Deutsch argued that economic and cultural cooperation was a far better route toward the formation of such a security community than was common membership in a traditional military alliance. Deutsch and his collaborators defined a security community as "a group of people" believing "that they have come to agreement on at least this one point: that common social problems must and can be resolved by processes of 'peaceful change'". Peaceful change was defined as "the resolution of social problems, normally by institutionalized procedures, without resort to large–scale physical force". • 19. Essay on The Importance of Community Community is very important and has many factors like kinship, unity, and identity. Community helps society because it creates solutions, provides security and reveals dedication. It discovers truthfulness. Communities are part of everyday life and have positive affects on its members. Communities can be found everywhere and can be created anywhere. You may be unaware of it, but you are part of a community not only based on your location, but also based on your lifestyle, your religion, your heritage, your education, or your abilities. As Hewitt once said, "Community provides a psychological world and a place of identification for its members." Identifying yourself with a particular community may be easier than it ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Observing others' behaviors lets one realize and understand more about different types and kinds of people. Seeing how certain groups or communities act or react to situations lets us see more perspective and hopefully appreciate their point of view. It is important to be part of communities for much of the same reason. When you are part of a group, you understand and compromise with the other members of the group. Discussing issues involving the community helps to lead to solutions. Talking things through with other members improves social skills as well as relationships. Knowing how people feel about certain issues let you know more about that person, and in turn, you learn more about yourself. Hearing what other people have to say may sway your own opinions about something. For example, maybe you are part of a church you thought you really believed in, but hearing the discussions at the church meetings you start to think that you do not belong in this community. Though that specific church may be the right place for many, you learn that you need a new church community. Churches are communities because the members are unified in their common beliefs. These communities are like families because the members support and help each other religiously and they feel secure. Being a sound part of a community, you should continuously learn more and more about yourself. As a member of a club, taking part in meetings and activities let you learn ... • 21. Security At The Umpqua Community College Johnathan Good 12 December, 2015 ENG 2100–08 Smith With the recent shooting at the Umpqua Community College in Oregon, security on college campuses has become a major topic. Some campuses have increased their security while others have kept theirs the same. One of these campuses that has kept its security at the status quo is Ohio State University. This amount of security is what Wright State lacks. It is understandable that the size of the campus of Wright State is nowhere near that of Ohio State and that Wright State is near the Wright Patterson Air Force Base, but having only a couple campus police cruisers roaming around campus is not enough to prevent a shooting so there needs to be a greater police presence on campus. Over the past ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The proposition that I have in mind for this is that Wright State needs to have at least fifteen officers on duty during campus hours. I know that this will not be perfect in preventing a shooting or an attack on campus so I am also proposing that there needs to be a rapid response unit that specializes in active shooter scenarios that is able to get to campus within twenty minutes as well as a keycard system that only allows people into certain buildings with authorized cards, in this case student IDs and visitor passes. First, a greater police presence will serve as a deterrent for people to avoid attacking the campus. Second, having a keycard system that works only with student IDs and visitor passes can act as a deterrent just by making it more difficult for a person to get into a building. Lastly, having a rapid response team will reduce the time that a gunman has to perform their criminal act thus reducing the number of lives lost. Having a greater police presence in an area alone reduces the likelihood of a shooting to occur on campus. But they cannot just be patrolling the campus in their cruisers, there have to be some that roam around the campus on foot. With recent events that are stereotyping police officers as racists, it is understandable that this might not be one of the best decisions to make. Keep in mind though that a police officer's ... The first problem is the shortage of doctors in rural and undesirable communities. Both of these problems have solutions, by offering citizenship to foreign doctors willing to move into communities having both a shortage of doctors and a surplus of vacant housing. In the real world, this mask appears simplistic; however, the internet is an abstract space of node connections that streams a wild flurry of ideas, people, and identities. • 31. Community Food Security And Food Availability And... INTRODUCTION Community food security relates to food availability and accessibility. To be considered community food secure, all individuals in a community should have access to sufficient amounts of safe, nutritious, culturally appropriate food that are produced in an environmentally sustainable way (Desjardins et al, 2002). However, reduced agriculture land due to increased urbanization has decreased the accessibility of food to the public and has led to food insecurity in many communities locally and globally. The rising urbanized general public has a limited understanding of food since food is usually produced some miles away (Iverson et al, 2014). In recent years, the popularity of urban agriculture and community gardens are raising in many cities in North America (Iverson et al, 2014). A majority of civic politicians come to believe that healthier, safer and fresher food could be grown in the middle of city at a suitable cost, which can improve food availability, affordability and accessibility locally (Wong & Hallsworth, 2016). Urban agriculture can improve the access to healthy food, can develop sustainable food systems, and advance food justice for all people in the struggling community. It is a solution to address the issue of community food security. CLAIMS AND EVIDENCE Urban agriculture can improve the access to healthy food for individuals in the community. • 33. Miss Simpson Reflection When interviewing Miss Simpson on November 01, 2017, I learned that fifty–years ago, Lockwood was a predominately African–American neighborhood. It was a neighborhood where neighbors would speak during encounters, participate in engagements in the community, take walks around the block, entertain each other in their homes, and watch after the children. Essentially, it was more than a neighborhood. It was a community. Fast forward to 2017, things are different at first sight. New houses that scream, "Gentrification" are being built on almost every block. At first, they seem to be out of place as they stand in comparison to the older houses. Houses that have witnessed more things than I could ever imagine. Houses that I would soon learn to have occupied by multiple generations. Houses that had a story. While none of the new houses I saw embodied any of the qualities that drew me to admire the older houses, I felt this sense that they were the first step in this process of transformation that was taking place in the Lockwood neighborhood. As a looked up to saw the view of downtown and the sound of busy cars, I thought to myself, I should have expected this to happen sooner or later. Parallel to the older houses, the older residents in Lockwood have a story. A story that illustrates the love for one community, even during rough times. I quickly learned after conversing with Miss Simpson, her granddaughter, and Mr. Bell that Lockwood to them is not just a neighborhood that is positioned perfectly next to downtown Charlotte. It is a neighborhood that has always extended open arms to outsiders, especially those who were not familiar with the area. I understood this to be true as I sat on their porches to interview them with great enthusiasm and kindness. While it might have taken some time to get used to, Lockwood nevertheless was a community where anyone could feel at home very quickly. All it took was the everyday genuine greeting from a neighbor. Walking down the streets of Lockwood, this still exists as I personally witnessed the genuine encounters myself. Gentlemen in their yards saying, "Good morning," and the occasional head nod made me feel right at home. But what is different, as stated by residents of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 35. Community Reflection It would be an understatement to say that I have been blessed to grow up in a neighborhood where I knew nothing bad would happen to me. It would be an understatement to say that I can go to bed knowing all the doors in the house are locked and my house is secure. It would be not be false to say that these things are given to me each day, but it would be an understatement to say I am thankful for each thing. An error is falling down your stairs because you did not turn a light on, but a mistake would be taking any of this security for granted. I know these things not because of what I have achieved in my life, but a result of my fathers job. He stands as the fire captain in Davenport, Iowa. Listening to some of the horror stories from his job, has widened my perspective on not only life, but in the small minor details surrounding everything. I can say I am more grateful for being able to have the understanding of safety, that if ever in a bad situation, I would step in to take risks and protect those around me. In today's society, crime is such a common thing and often occurs within small communities. I remember reading and learning about history and how communities would always be there to help one another. But today, community is such an overused word, and does not describe what one is at all. The foundation of a community revolves around the people who risk their lives day in and day out, to be there to protect us and get us out of harm's way. The hardest times in life, ... In between 1990–92 and 2010–12, the number of undernourished people, who mostly live in developing region, specifically South–Eastern Asia, has been rapidly decreasing for about 44% (FAO, 2012). Through this past few years, communities, government, and practitioners have done many efforts to enhance individual's food security level. BYRC, or known as Broadway Youth Resource Centre teams up with several programs to provide food, life, housing, employment, and education services to low socioeconomic youths, between age 13–24 years old. Other communities have been working to maintain sustainable food systems through building community gardens, volunteering, and buying local produce. Moreover, government also plays a critical role in subsidizing funds or offering volunteer opportunities and training programs, and finally, practitioner has invented several sustainable agriculture techniques, including organic farming. Unfortunately, these efforts are not well received by every individual in the whole nation, resulting in the expansion number of undernourished people in some other parts of the world, for example in sub–Saharan Africa and Western Asia (FAO, 2012). However, even though the community that I stayed in was all gated and the people that were residents of the community could only get in and out of the gate by using a code that was given to them. There are many areas throughout my community that needed some improvement in each and every single area. One area in my community that needs a change is the opening of the gate where, when a resident of the community or a person that also has their code comes into the gate, a person that does not reside there can just easily come into the gate right behind them with no questions asked. They should use service volunteers, with the help of a security guard, to stand at the gate and open the gate whenever a resident comes home, where they have to show their ID badge at the gate in order to come in. The Broken Window Model Of Wilson And Keiling According to http://cebcp.org, "Broken window model focuses on the importance of disorder (e.g., broken windows) in generating and sustaining more serious crime." Wilson and Kelling are the creator of this model. They notice that neighborhoods who have high crime rate, consider of "disreputable people". They are the people who hang out on the corner, the mental ill who pace back and forth up and down the streets, and those juvenile delinquents that love to pickpocket other people. Most of the communities are low income minority communities that Wilson and Keiling looked at. Wilson and Keiling does not think that poverty, racial segregation, and residential mobility and other social issues is not the root causes to high crime rates, They think to restore order needs to be placed in these community as Nixon will say "Law and Order". They think the government cannot eliminate the root causes. Policing should be enforce more into the community to create a safe haven for these communities. By not focusing on social reform, rehabilitation is too costly and difficult. Wilson said to increase cost of crime by increasing punishment in prison. It will help measure deterrence, and if it does not work incapacitation. He also the believe that the root causes is caused by causal fallacy. Analysis Of The Kern 's Article ' Gendered Urbanization ' In relation to this, Kern's article "Gendered Urbanization" illustrates how the factors attracting affluent women to the new condominiums in Parkdale are often the same instruments of oppression against the residents; according to her research, an attractive aspect of the new condominiums are security measures put into place to keep out the impoverished, and therefore dangerous, communities within Parkdale, such as a 24–hour concierge, double locks on all apartment doors, and a video monitor at the front desk. Even if "street[s] are very quiet" (Kern 372, III) the design of the buildings project and imply a criminal, unpredictable nature onto the original residents of Parkdale, and "enshrines these expectations into the built environment". One resident interviewed stated " my [apartment] has twenty–four–hour security, and they don't let anybody in without talking to security. Residents are not allowed to let anybody in, even if you open the doors" (Kern 372, IV). Therefore, the community lost to the shift in housing rates is not replaced with incoming residents, but rather the two communities are segregated by classist infrastructure and stereotypes that push the lower income people to the outskirts of Parkdale. This leads to a huge sense of isolation and unease in the community of original Parkdale residents because, not only are they threatened and disadvantaged financially, the implantation on these condominiums are actively keeping them out. • 57. Community Policing And Public Security Topic: Community Policing Name Affiliated institute In every corner of the world, security to the public has always been a concern. It is a responsibility of the government to provide security to its people. To ensure that there is a reliable security to the public, the government must streamline some approaches to security threats and effectively prevent or counter them. It is a common understanding that in most of the times in our lives, we happen to interact with the people who break the law or we witness an action which supposes to be punishable by the law. In the event that we have information that would improve the state's security levels, we should willingly give it to the police. Contrary to this, many of the members of ... Although police is the body mandated with the provision of security to the public, it is not possible for the police to provide reliable security while working alone. Community policing gives every member of the public a role to play in ensuring their land is safe to live in. The security is accorded through the combined efforts by both the police and the members of the public. The members of the public play a role by providing/ reporting any security concern to the police, and working with them hand in hand to restore/ maintain peace in the society. Gramckow and Jacoby (1993:30) concluded that community policing is a good strategy to address the concerns and problems of communities, since it is decentralized, proactive, and deals with crime prevention and the fear of crime. Since the police stay within the community, it becomes easy for faster response in cases of emergency. Whenever the police are called upon for help, they can turn up within a short while. Positive relationship between police and members of the public It is common that police are not regarded as good 'people' in the face of the members of the public. This is usually due to the nature of their work, as they work to enforce the law. Community policing has played a major role in changing how the community perceived the ... • 61. Analysis Of ' Sisterhood Is Complicated By Ruth Padawer Every person deserves the right to experience a sense of community amongst people who share a common characteristic. A sense of fellowship amongst similar people allows a person to become more comfortable with who they are through interactions with others who are going through–or have gone through–the same triumphs or hardships. Without this feeling of belonging, one could be driven into insanity. Anxiety due to isolation and desolation could run rampant through a person's mind because of the loneliness that comes with a lack of community–making it an essential part of a humanhood. By definition however, community invites inimitability. Community can be defined as a group of unique individuals with shared characteristics. From that a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... (Gay 173). Gay sees herself as an intersection of the black, woman, and feminist communities, making her a hybrid of the three, giving her a distinct community to identify with as well as broader groups. She identifies as a woman and acknowledges all of the expectations and stereotypes that accompanies. On the other hand, her fundamental views on gender equality gives her the ability to empathize with the feminist community. Nevertheless, in every group of people, everyone is a distinct individual with a distinct number of characteristics, both physical and emotional, that sets them apart from the person next to them. The Security And Rights Collaborative The Security and Rights Collaborative has conducted statistical and demographic based research to determine regions in the United States where MASA communities are growing quickly and are relatively isolated. These findings will be used to identify MASA communities that would benefit most strongly from the SRC grants in the next phase of their work as they support and empower organizations operating in regions where the environment is particularly challenging and harmful to MASA communities. Minneapolis/St. Paul Minnesota has the nation 's largest Somali population–an estimated 57,000 people. Both Minneapolis and St. Paul have seen the largest influx of Somali immigrants. One organization in particular is the Somali Action Alliance Education Fund which focuses on empowering the Somali community through collective and proactive action. • 65. Persuasive Essay On Volunteering eather French Henry once said, "Volunteering is at the very core of being a human, no one has made it in life without someone else's help," (Volunteering Solutions 3). Similarly, the butterfly is a very small natural force which over a period of time gains a cumulatively large effect that produces great beauty. This phenomenon begins first with insurmountable struggles and works its way through a snarled mess of webbing and eventually takes flight. With every effort, the first step in volunteering is usually the hardest. However, once the intention is set, the flight of volunteering takes off. In fact, many scholars over the years have argued over how involved an individual should be in one's community. Some believe the largest reward a person can achieve from giving their time and money to the good of their community is the satisfaction, accomplishment, and pride that comes from within. Ultimately, an individual's role should be founded on one's ability to be impactful to their community, this impact can be quick or long lasting but in the end, the results of volunteering demonstrate leadership and stewardship which through example inspires others to do the same, creating a better place for all to live. The purpose of giving stems from the ability of each individual to be impactful with their own actions. Through the action of giving to one's community, the meaning of the action does not lie in how much money or how much volunteering is produced, rather how much ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 71. Argumentative Essay On A Raisin In The Sun A Raisin in the Sun, by Lorraine Hansberry shows how people's actions can be perceived as both good and bad. In this play, the Younger family is trying to achieve the American dream, "the ideals of freedom, equality, and opportunity traditionally held to be available to every American"(cite dictionary.com). The Youngers are a black family living in a poor part of Chicago. The family inherits ten thousand dollars from a relative. Each family member has their own idea about how to use this money to fulfill their dreams. The play uses the decisions of the family members to make the reader think about what are the right choices. Mama is the matriarch of the family, and she wants to use the money to buy a house in a white neighborhood. She wants to move to this neighborhood because it is a better environment for her family. Lindor is a man who lives in the white neighborhood and he appears to make decisions for the benefit of the family. The decisions that Mama and Lindor make and the actions they take can be viewed as good or bad for both the individual and the community. However, Hansberry uses a man by the name of Linder who tries to help himself and the Younger family, but with that, he is promoting segregation. On the other hand, with mama moving, they are putting their lives at risk, however they will be moving past segregation and trying to make all lives equal. Both Lindor and Mama were thinking about themselves and not others around the community. In the play, Mama, makes the decision to move into a new house, with this choice Mama puts her family in a tough situation. This benefits the family in several ways such as boosting their moral, and allowing them to live in a more pleasant area. As Mama told Walter, " Walter Lee– it makes a difference in a man when he can walk on floors that belong to him" (2.1.92). One huge factor of moving to a better area, if confidence. With this boost of a better house, it could make Walter and the rest of his family work harder, allowing them to make more money. However, there have been recent bombings on colored houses in white neighborhoods. Overview of Current Cyber Security Threats Why should the Dental Community Care about Cyber Security? Imagine this: A virtual intruder, like Tony Soprano, quietly downloads countless patient files containing private medical information – names, procedures, medications, related claims data – which are then sold and resold across the globe. Or imagine that a few laptops containing much of the same type of data fall into the wrong hands. Such security breaches are increasingly making headlines as banks, brokerages, and even government offices grapple with such embarrassing and damaging thefts. This scenario – which could make a shady character like Tony Soprano a nice amount of cash – could be a nightmare for a health plan. Or, imagine this: You are on vacation, kayaking in Florida. Suddenly, the phone rings. It's your office, with alarming news. Your server has been hacked, you are locked out of your electronic patient records, and you cannot access the records until you pay a ransom to the hackers who infiltrated your practice's computer system. Your practice is being held hostage! Until you can unlock these records, you are helpless. You cannot take care of patients. You have no access to your appointment scheduler.
