The Pre-Islamic Middle East
Many people in out fast pace progressive world today are very accepting of things just the way they
are. In recent times, many like to rush to assumptions and ask few questions. It's not rare for our
young millennial's to get their news from Jon Stewart and the comedy central channel and it's rare
for most to research or even ask questions like, . . . What happened? . . . How did it start? . . . or
Who initiated this? Curiosity seems to elude much of our young society. However, I of an inquiring
mind, was enlightened during these lectures as we addressed Pre–Islamic civilizations and the root
of this controversial faith. Professor Khan was able shed some light on the Arabic society and the
origin of Islam before it was a religion. VIDEO–LECTURE 3 The Pre–Islamic Middle East was
surprisingly similar to many societies today. Just like people in modern time, these civilizations
were diverse, multicultural, and were very quick to adopt and modify any influences they favored.
This Western influence can be seen in their architecture, and art such as their Pagan deities sculpted
in Greek form. I found it very interesting that we as human beings still maintain the ... Show more

Analysis Of Cormac Mccarthy 's ' The Road '
How Effectively Does McCarthy Create a
Sense of What a Post–Apocalyptic
World Would be Like?
Cormac McCarthy creates a sense of what a post–apocalyptic society in the novel 'The Road'. He
does this by including dreams, description of the physical landscape and human behaviour. This
helps create a sense of a post–apocalyptic world because it gives us insight into what it looks like
and how the people think.
McCarthy uses dreams as a recurring theme throughout the text in order to create his post–
apocalyptic world. The novel opens with a dream, in which the author creates a monster. The author
uses dreams to create a contrast between a perfect dream world and the cold, dark terrifying world
that the characters live in now. 'Its bowels, its beating heart. The brain that pulsed in a dull glass
bell'. This could be the author creating a metaphor for the horror that the characters are about to face
throughout the book.
Towards the middle of the book the man says that 'The right dreams for a man in peril were dreams
of peril and all else was the call of languor and death. He dreamt of walking in a flowering wood
where birds flew before them... but he was learning how to wake himself from such siren worlds...
with the uncanny taste of a peach from some phantom orchard fading in his mouth...' The father
feels this because his reality and his life are so terrible, he can only have perilous dreams because if
he were to have dreams that were soft, pleasant and warming then they would

The Golden Age Of Islamic Thought And Its Cultural Impact...
Growing up I always wondered what was going on before the year 2,000. What about year 1,000? I
had learned as far back as the 1700s but I still had not found what I really wanted to know. When I
did the reading for "The Golden Age of Islamic Thought and Its Cultural Impact on Europe" my
question was finally answered. During the "Dark Ages" Europe was at its all time low in allowance
of intellectual thinking. The sad thing being people were really dictating the way you think! While
this was happening Islam was thriving in more ways than one in the 1,000s I had always wondered
about. Although Islam has clearly had a significant influence on Europe, Europeans denied this fact,
their invents, thoughts, and ideas even being seemingly relevant all while their society was highly
influenced by said denied facts.
The historians and philosophers from Europe have denied Islam the credit that it really deserves for
the development of modern culture. One thing that is stupidly ignored is their impact on
mathematics. In today's modern word there is more math than you could ever imagine, very difficult
math at that. None of this would have truly been possible if it wasn't for Islam's contributions but
Europe will always turn their heads to this fact. The common European ego is too large to simply
give credit where credit is due (Something that Islam never had a problem doing). Europeans would
rather deny the facts than put their pride aside and realize that it is possible for others to be

Analysis Of The Everlast : Boxing Makes You Bigger Commercial
The Everlast "Boxing Makes You Bigger" commercial seems to be about boxing but is really about
being a better person. This becomes more evident as the commercial progresses. The beginning
focuses on boxing itself. The main character, the boxer, is seen practicing relentlessly and as a result,
he wins his matches. One could attribute that to an advertising technique. The company is promoting
its products by showing victorious people using them. However, most effective commercials
progress a story that leads to a big "aha moment" or a message. They capture the interest of the
audience using a captivating, though curtailed, storyline and make a call to action at the end. That
way, viewers will be left thinking about their product or company ... Show more content on

It is proclaiming that boxers, who are sometimes labeled as violent and aggressive, have the heart to
show kindness in any way possible. The commercial's last few moments on the screen include the
words "Boxing Makes You Bigger" and Everlast's slogan "Greatness Is Within." The first one places
boxing in a positive light and promotes it, but the second one is the call–to–action for everybody.
"Greatness is within." This is saying that everybody has the potential to be great and contribute
something to society, even if it is only for one person. The commercial takes place in a developing
country, which shows just some of the problems so that viewers will be inspired to make a
difference. Many people around the world are in dire need of help and it's never the wrong time to
help.
Today, there are millions of people around the world who go to bed hungry and pass every second of
their lives in poverty. We can't ignore the problems plaguing so many people around the world. Just
by giving food, clothes, and supplies, you're making someone's day a little bit brighter. Even though
one might not meet the person they are helping face–to–face, they'll be making a positive impact.

The Upstream And Downstream Of Seeing By Annie Dillard
The Upstream and Downstream of Seeing Annie Dillard's "Seeing" discusses the two possible ways
to properly see things and relates them to light versus darkness in nature and upstream versus
downstream of a river. The essay explains that there are two ways to see things in the world; to look
for something specifically or to let go of the desire to see something. Both types of seeing are also
combined with either brightness or darkness and with either upstream or downstream. Dillard has
trouble seeing anything in the upstream of the river because that part of the river is always dark or
cloudy. On the other hand, she can see the animals in the downstream of the river, where everything
is bright and lively. The river is split in two different symbols which help show the best way that one
should view nature. The downstream and the upstream of the river have unique characteristics
because they also compare to being darkness and light. By using powerful imagery and word choice,
Dillard is able to compare the two types of seeing and explain why letting go of the want to see is
the best way to look at things. Dillard's powerful imagery throughout the essay is crucial for
understanding the differences in seeing. For example, she is able to describe something as broad as
nature by using a simile such as "nature is like one of those line drawings of a tree that are puzzles
for children" (19). Since Dillard writes with such a loose structure, the imagery she creates helps

Johannes Kepler 's A Perfect World
Johannes Kepler was a modern individual and he believed that God would have created a perfect
world and in that world everything was geometrically perfect. In Banville's book about Kepler it
says, "The search for knowledge everywhere encounters geometrical relations in nature, which God,
in creating the world, laid out (Banville 1981, p.145)." As he pursued the answer to planetary
motion, he assumed that the planets orbited the sun in a perfect circle. He tried to seek order in his
chaotic life through science and rational thought. While pursuing his research on planetary orbit, he
struggled to keep his three worlds; rational, emotional, and social; in order. Kendura says that a
novel provides knowledge of life as lived by individuals (Kendura 1988). Kepler's life definitely
represents the hassles a normal person's life is like. In his rational world he could logically come up
with a reason for different phenomenas. He spends his life researching planetary orbit and
astronomical tables. Dealing with his rational world is somewhat easier than dealing with his
emotional and social worlds because the rational world is based on research, facts, and evidence. For
Toulmin planetary orbit is just a physical law of nature, which according to the Cartesian Dichotomy
would fall under the body and not the mind. Kepler also follows the dichotomy in many ways, so he
would probably agree with Toulmin.
His emotional life is probably the messiest of his three worlds. In his emotional

Neopagan Worldview Research Paper
What is a worldview? Worldview is defined by Sire as : "commitment a fundamental orientation of
the heart, that can be expressed as a story or in set of presuppositions that we hold about basic
constitution of reality that provides foundation on which we live, move and have meaning [Sire]."
Neopagan worldview "is not based of dogma or set beliefs, nor on scriptures or sacred book
revealed by great man (Fisher 478)." In my opinion a worldview is a set of beliefs one holds about
the world that is around them. In this paper I will elaborate on Neopagan beliefs, worldviews, and
discuss how to evangelize as a Christian in their worldview. Neopagan worldview beliefs are quite
different from Christian theism. One of the first worldviews they differ in is: "What is the prime
reality (Sire)?" Christianity focuses on one having a personal relationship with God in order to
achieve salvation from the Fall. However Neopagans focus more on practicing in communities and
having a relationship to the ultimate source ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Neopagans do the opposite (DiZerega 26). Christians do not believe in one who exhibits spiritual
powers pertaining to witchcraft. Christians also see them as demonic and as "fallen" individuals.
Neopagans say that witchcraft does exist and they do not see them as "fallen" or demonic
individuals (DiZerega 26). There are many beliefs as you can see from above, that make Christian
Theism and Neopagans quite different. However, there are also many similarities between Christian
theism and Neopaganism as well. Christian theism seeks to heal people from spiritual, emotional,
physical pain through prayer. Neopagans also have healing rituals. Neopagans focus on spiritual
healing processes in small groups. Generally Christians also have healing for individuals that take
place in small settings of people as well. Also Neopagans seek to heal emotional and physical pain,

Essay on Metaphysics of Ovid and Dante
Ovid wrote the Metamorphoses nearly two thousand years ago and Dante wrote Purgatorio 1600
years after that – two pieces of literature that dealt with topics which transcend humanity's perceived
reality. Each piece of literature attempts to arrive at a truth concerning the essence of human
existence, Dante seeks answers within the confines of Catholic dogma while Ovid approaches
existence from a paganistic perspective. This demonstrates two very different approaches to the
same exact query. Mankind has questioned the existence of a metaphysical realm for generations
and consequently shapes the nature of the supernatural world.
The complex pagan religious system of the Romans mirrored that of the Greeks, but what Ovid
sought to create ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The two survivors of this flood, Deucalion and Pyrrha, then spawn the rest of humanity.
Jupiter and Neptune eliminated all of mankind because they did not actively worship the gods or
remain true to the laws of the gods. Ovid advocates the active participation of the gods in the
physical world; so, at this point the supernatural and the physical become intertwined. The Roman
gods and humans have a definite connection to one another. They are very similar in making and
reacting to situations, however, they still retain a quite different nature as the gods are immortal and
humanity is mortal. In fact, the gods actively participate in the occurrences on earth and thusly help
to explain natural phenomena.
Dante Alighieri, on the other hand, takes separating the supernatural world from the physical world
to great lengths. Simply the setting of the book in a place which does not physically exist anywhere
on earth, but solely in a metaphysical plane, makes the reader aware that purgatory has nothing to do
with earth. This differs greatly from the viewpoint of the Greeks and consequently the Romans
where the gods resided in actual places the can be seen such as the `Milky Way' (Ovid, 6) or
Olympus (Ovid, 7). Dante stresses that he and Virgil are `pilgrims' in Purgatory – their being in

The Philosophical Adventure Of A Mystery Teacher
Sophie Amundsen realized her ordinary life will never be the same when she begins to receive
philosophical lesson from a mystery teacher. The purpose of this paper is to discuss the different life
lessons given to Sophie and how the life around us today is completely owed to the early
philosophers. Socrates, Plato, Aristotle, and many other philosophers, although persecuted for their
ideas at the time, had ideas that would revolutionize society and they way they learned about the
universe. In addition, the philosopher used short stories or anecdotes in order to help Sophie better
understand the complex philosophical questions. I will be examining these and providing

Although there is nothing wrong with that, some, like the philosopher, chose a different route. When
Sophie receives the first note, it simply asked, "Who are you?" Many may have thrown the note
away, but Sophie decided to keep it. She pondered the question for a while, and put some real
thought into it. She thought about her appearance; her eyes, her hair, and her frequent dissatisfaction
with the way she looked. Other than that, she found it hard the answer the question (pg. 5). I think
many struggle with this in general. If you are asked to describe yourself with information other than
your physical features, you usually draw a blank. Why is that? Is it possible that too much time is
spent carrying out the daily duties, such as work, school, and family that we may not spend enough
time on self reflection? Going through the motions of life can keep you occupied, not leaving much
room worldly epiphanies. "You cannot find out whether there is a God or whether there is life after
death in an encyclopedia. Nor does the encyclopedia tell us how we ought to live. However, reading
what other people have believed can help us formulate our own view of life," (Gaardner, 2007).

The State Of The World. To The Seventeen-Year-Old Grandchild
The state of the world
To the seventeen–year–old grandchild of the future. The start of the twenty first century has been an
adventure of a lifetime as a young adult present in the two thousand seventeen. However, when
thinking about the future it has become a struggle all on its own yet certain objectives are fairly
clear. We as humans are insensitive to our natural surrounding environment. It will be our ignorance
to the cry of our home that will become our downfall if we do not take actions to prevent this from
happening. It is at this time one has to wonder what things could have been done previously to
further alert the people to preserve one of the most essential part of living.

Do we take action with the knowledge? The true answer is no, people might sympathize for a
second or two before they are absorbed by the latest popular and idiotic trend. The suffering people
in these types of situations become faceless and nameless and therefore are regarded as not real
people in our eyes. One only truly begins to care about a concerning problem when it sits in front of
our lawn, up and personal.
Majority of the people have come to lose the ability to feel empathy for the larger world that cannot
be seen right in front of them. I am not saying that every single person is like this because I am not.
There are people in society who do take in consideration the wellbeing of others and our planet
Earth, however to much of their efforts to raise awareness it is still not enough. It is not enough to
make an immense impact to improve or begin to discard our long life engraved dangerous habits.
We have become too content to the way we live and a danger to the lifestyle is met with resistance
and hostility. The people of our current society over time have created a world where time and
money has become a first priority and saving Earth has been placed in last. We as people have also
begun to lose the sense of hearing one another in time of need. People have begun to relinquish the
connection between ourselves. Instead of strengthening bonds of alliance to achieve a common goal
that will benefit us

Essay on King Lear is a Christian Play About a Pagan World
King Lear is a Christian Play About a Pagan World
It is evident that King Lear contains references to both the Christian and Pagan doctrine. However,
they seem to be expressed in entirely different styles. King Lear is purposefully set in a pre Christian
era with numerous references to classical Gods but conversely there appears to be a striking
resonance of Christian theology throughout the play. These echoes appear in various forms
including the idea of Edgar being a Christ–like figure and also the presence of a supposed divine
justice. Therefore there is truth in the view that although King Lear has a pagan setting, its
significance is ultimately relating to Christianity.
Perhaps the most ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
One form of this is the repetition of reference and request to the gods as disciplinary beings. Critics
have commented particularly on the similarity of Lear's sufferings to those experienced by Job in the
Bible. There are also some quotes that have biblical connotations such as Coredlia's,
'O dear father
It is thy business that I go about'.
There are other devices used in the play that may not have overt doctrinal messages but can be
deduced as relating to the Bible. Such as the storm seeming somewhat apocalyptic and Lear wearing
a crown of thorns and thus resembling Jesus.
Another theme which once explored can help with understanding the religious qualities of King
Lear is that of divine justice. It is clear that sinning is punished in the play. Evil may triumph for a
time and cause immense suffering but within itself it carries the seeds of its own destruction and
therefore will eventually fail. This point is most obviously shown through the actions of the two
sisters. Goneril and Regan use their wicked ways to gain power over the land and their father but in
the end their intense suspicion of each other results their demise. Gloucester is another excellent
example of this punishment for sin as Edgar uses in his conversation with the dying Edmund as an
instance of God's justice,
'The Gods are just, and of our pleasant vices

The observer's influence is further illustrated in the regular examples of alliteration of the letter 'S'

focus of the human very short; a distraction from God. In Concrete Wafers the human becomes
captivated by their new boots, this obsession alienates them, leaving them unsympathetic and self–
important, mirroring Dr. Faustus. Paradise Lost is alluded to later in the paragraph, with the
inclusion of "obdurate pride ," a phrase which appears in line 58, this impresses how blind sighted
the human has become. The Medusa head on the boots is a reference to the Italian luxury brand

The History Of The Religious Holocaust Against African Slaves
Learning the history of our modern world renders useless without applying it to present day

the European arrival to the Americas, to the expansion of the US into Mexico and everything in
between. Though all topics discussed are captivating in their way, one struck me for good: the
period of the religious holocaust against African slaves implemented by the whites. As we spoke on
the topic, I couldn't stop myself from thinking that this yet hasn't finished, we are centuries in the

Similar to this religious holocaust, we have what is occurring in France against its Muslim residents
and citizens. According to the BBC, a world renown news site, these new laws will legalize the
closing of Mosque across France. It will allow the government to confine people to their hometowns
and ask for them to report daily to their local police station, and finally, it will place security
checkpoints at all main landmarks and popular areas. Though some of this may seem harmless, it
isn't. France has set up laws that would possibly make a practicing Muslim's life near to impossible,
harder than it already is, with all the prejudice against the targeted population. The fear of terrorism
will likely cause millions of civilians their civil rights, identical to the dismay of a mass slave revolt
that almost caused the loss of African traditions and practices in the new world. You may wonder
why the religious holocaust against African slaves is so crucial to the modern world. Part of
studying history and its flaws are learning from past and evolving for a brighter future. France's

Summary Of The Poem The World Is Too Much With Us
I have read this poem once before when I was looking for a poem to participate in the Poetry Out
Loud contest. It was among three poems that caught my attention, but I discarded it after I decided
on "Invictus". "The World Is Too Much With Us" is about how the human race has become detached
from nature and proclaiming that this is horrid this is. One perspective of this poem is to think of
how we need to reaffirm our connection with the natural world. However, there is also another
perspective that hides in the shadow of the first perspective. Is our attachment to modern society a
positive thing? The speaker proclaims that he would rather be "...rather be a pagan suckled in a
creed outworn..." so that he could enjoy nature (lines 9–10). I believe ... Show more content on

This implies that the speaker says that he would prefer to be removed from society so that he could
live in nature. The second perspective is that participation in society is less important than having a
relationship with nature. There are numerous literary devices in the poem. One example is
personification is in line 5 where the sea "bares her bosom". This poet refers to the sea as "her" and
a sea would have no "bosom". There is a simile in line 7 "And are up–gathered now like sleeping
flowers." Finally, there are two allusions to greek gods in lines 13 and 14, Proteus and Triton
respectively. Line 14 gives the example of imagery "Or hear Old Triton blow his wreathed horn".
One can imagine the great sea god blowing a curled horn amid a vast ocean for all to hear.
Wordsworth chose images such as this one because they were strong and powerful. This last line,
with Triton sounding the wreathed horn, symbolizes that nature is calling to humanity, beckoning for
us to return to the natural world. The pagan mentioned in line 10 symbolizes the ideal human: at
home with nature, disengaged from society. The form of the poem, with its prevalent rhyming and

The Impact Of The Poetry Of William Wordsworth's Poetry?

Industrial Revolution of the 1800s was in many ways a forerunner to another revolution – an
uprising against industrialisation and the loss of a connection with the natural world. Poets of the

Born in the late 1770s, Wordsworth's life was plagued with disaster and death from an early age. At
the age of 7, his mother passed away, and his beloved sister Dorothy was sent to live with relatives.
At the age of 13, his father became deathly ill after climbing through the mountains, passing away a
few days later. After all this horror had passed, Wordsworth found himself sitting on a boat on a
lake. It was here that Wordsworth realised the power and awe of nature, and how he too was at Her
mercy. These experiences shaped the way Wordsworth wrote his poetry, and the way in which he
sought inspiration. Writers of the Romantic Era tended to focus on three specific genres: childhood,
the environment, and industrialisation. Generally, the themes written about had a sense of loss, of
damage to the human spirit. The poem The World Is Too Much With Us expresses Wordsworth's
anger and frustration at his world; at this point in history, the Industrial Revolution had swept

John Winthrop and the Puritans dared to make the dangerous journey across the Atlantic Ocean for

With the time that the Puritans would have in the new world, this was beautiful music to the
Puritans' ears. Lastly, the Puritans' lack of possessions would allow them to depend on one another
much more "in the bonds of brotherly affection" (Winthrop 148). Since the Puritans would have no
possessions to spend time on, they had more time to spend with one another, and thus depend on one

What’s the Big Deal about Privacy? Essay
Privacy is having seclusion from others, where one can be in solitude. Having personal privacy, like
most things, have benefits and faults. Recently, Edward Snowden leaked private government
documents for the world to see; once this news was discovered, he moved to Russia because Russia
does not have extradition laws. A debate on the importance of privacy flustered. Personal privacy is
important to have because certain information shared can ruin relationships between others, having
privacy is having freedom, and privacy gives one a sense of autonomy and security. By revealing
certain information about someone or something, relationships between people can tarnished.
People have privacy for the sake of having matters. As stated by ... Show more content on

Since privacy is a natural right, there's no actually proof that privacy keeps people trapped. People
can be put a dangerous predicament if their information is revealed to others. Giving away personal
information is giving an intimate insight on your life. Let's say you reported a criminal to the police,
and the criminal wants revenge. Your information got leaked to the public and the criminal can
easily access the same information. Not only would the criminal know you are, but his cohorts or
partners will also know, which means that you're in trouble. Privacy keeps you safe. Having privacy
make you "you." Many people can live in uniform with your lifestyle. Nobody would be unique or
special without privacy! People would argue that giving away information would make the world
closer together. These people are not aware that privacy plays a big factor in autonomy. People will
always disagree about a lot of things, so by sharing information, the world would most likely be
more separated than together. Overall, having personal privacy prevent wrecking certain
relationships, keeps mysteries alive and expresses freedom, and shows people's autonomy and
safety. Privacy keeps people from saying offensive things. Without privacy, everyone would know
what everyone else, making the world free of mysteries, leading to boredom. Privacy can protect a
person from certain threats, like criminals to want revenge. If privacy never exists, the world would

we continue to abuse within our country's borders come at a price. A price of violence and blood.
Behind our nation's peaceful, democratic façade lies a predatory beast that is crueler than the pagans

they asked for our assistance. In 1947, the United States started a murderous war that resulted in

Grief: The Reason Behind Personal Fable and Imaginary...
Grief is an unimaginable pain that people feel at certain times in their life. Sometimes the heart
wrenching pain of grief changes the way people think about the world. People soon begin to feel
that they are alone in the world. These people believe that their life is so bad, that nobody out there
in the world could possibly be going through the same pain as they are. They feel watched and
judged. These people believe they are unique and rare. Holden Caulfield, a character from the novel,
The Catcher in the Rye, and Lindsay Weir, a character from the TV Show, Freaks and Geeks, share
similarities with dealing with grief through personal fables and imaginary audience. The definition
of personal fable is where someone believes that they are unique in everyway possible. This ties in
with imaginary audience, which means someone seeking for attention, or believing that they are
constantly being watched. This ties in together, because when a person is going through a personal
fable, they sometimes focus on themselves, and believe that people are focusing on them as well. It
is common for adolescents to feel this way. Holden and Lindsay prove this theory. In chapter 5 of
The Catcher in the Rye, Holden speaks of his younger brother Allie. Allie passed away at a young
age and ever since his death, it has been hard on Holden. Holden speaks of how Allie was smart and
amazing. He speaks of memories he has of Allie, almost as if that would help his pain. (Salinger,

How Social Media Has Changed Our Culture
Social media has changed our culture in ways many, in years past, would have thought to be
impossible. With the advent of social media, people are connected around the world. Using the
internet we can have "face–to–face" conversations, write "letters", play games, and much more with
others instantly without the need of being in the same room as them. Even though we are all
constantly connected, some feel our technological innovations are causing us to become lonelier.
Many feel physical interactions are key to creating emotional bonds. Some even feel left out because
they are not technologically incline. Those who believe technology is making us lonelier often note
how some people say they have friends that they have never met in real life, or cite shows like
"Catfish" where people fall in love with others over the internet, but the person they thought they
were talking to is not actually who they were talking to. Though some may think technology is
making us lonelier, in actuality it bring us closer together. The internet is amazing. It connects
people all around the world. A few summers ago I went to camp in New Hampshire and met people
from around the country and around the world. At camp I became friends with a guy named Vicente.
Vincente lives in Spain. We became close friends at camp. When camp was over we were not
disappointed because when we made it back home we connected via Facebook. From there we
exchanged "Gamertags" and where playing videogames together while

Personal Note On Social Skills
I try very hard to teach my children that social skills are very important in the world. You have to be
able to communicate and speak your mind. Those who hide in the background and don't say
anything are the people that don't get very far in real life situations. My oldest daughter has this
down to a science in the fact that she deals with customers on a daily basis and has to be able to be
people friendly at her job. My second daughter is all bundled up and shy and won't speak out for the
things that she thinks is right. This causes me and her to have conflict on a daily basis, especially
through the things she deals with at school from the other students and teachers. My youngest
daughter let me tell you about her she is not shy to tell ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Hopefully I have tried to keep the social skills to a professional level in the jobs that I have had.
Social skills are very important all around the world; if you don't have good social skills your
professionalism could take a big hit for the rest of your working days. This is very important with
the learning of the job, if you have bad posture, your arms are crossed, you're not looking at the
person talking to you, and these are not the social skills you want to put out there for everyone to
see. Principles of good social skills can take you to the top of the ladder. You could make better
money and have a better work environment. When social skills are learned they can be easily taught.
If we had a social skills class to take I would make the world take it, so we could be better
communicators and better listeners. This would make a big difference in the work place and the
outside world. Would the world be war free if we knew better social skills? I think it would be a
better place to live and a safer place for our kids to live. So why don't we all learn social skills, and
make our world the place we want to live in. Life is how you make it and if you have social skills
then you can compete on any level you want to compete on. Make social skills somewhat a priority
in your everyday living so that you are confident and know how to be polite and responsive to other
people and their interest. Social skills are like M&M's they make the world go round and round.

Technology Advantages And Disadvantages Of The New Technology
Technology Advantages/Disadvantages
This world had become more, and more dependent on the new technology. People around the world
are adapting to this new technology and they like it, but the new technology it's destroying social
interactions. I have experience situation where I work at, the place where I work is in a Mexican
restaurant, they are families that come together to talk about their lives, experiences, personal event
etc.... but now day's mostly young adults are on their phones and they don't pay attention. They
think that their phones, iPad, music player, or any other device is more important than their family.
In my own opinion when you have the time to get together as a family, they should talk about what
happened today in their day, are there any problems that we can help, or even just talk. Or even
more shocking, the new technology is making people more lazy than ever I would say, because for
example in a situation where you have to choose to either go outside and play soccer with your
friends, but instead you choose to stay inside playing soccer, but in the computer which you only
have to move your hands, in the other hand if you go outside you can play and actually move your
hands, legs and even talk and laugh with your friends. I myself think that it has impact my life in
good and bad way. The good thing about the new technology is that I have more contact with my
family in Mexico; I can connect my phone through Bluetooth in my car, I can transfer my YouTube

Marketing Tips : Online Branding
nline branding is essential to top online businesses and building wealth online. The same brand that
is conveyed in printed marketing and sales materials should transcend to the online world. What is
online branding?
According to Dave Chaffey, author of Internet Marketing: Strategy, Implementation and Practice
and top network marketing tips guru, online branding is defined as "how online channels are used to
support brands, which in essence are the sum of the characteristics of a product or service as
perceived by the user."
This definition falls short. A simpler and much more accurate definition is "the combining of you or
your company 's best attributes and top strengths with the legitimate value you offer. This must be
established through a concise statement that will differentiate you from your peers and yet relate
strongly to your target audience and then be conveyed through all online interactions regarding
serious business opportunities."
Entrepreneurial online branding should assist potential customers or clients in deciding whether or
not they feel comfortable working with you, (such as) a women–owned home based business. It will
also assist them in understanding if your company will create a synergy that is beneficial to both.
Your online brand means the difference between building wealth or not because it will allow
decisions–makers to easily decide whether you meet their expectations and it will set you apart from
your competition.

The Road By Cormac Mccarthy
The novel, The Road, by Cormac McCarthy follows the journey of a father and son through an
almost entirely desolated and post–apocalyptic United States. After an unexplained, catastrophic
event takes place, the world is left in ruins. Very few people are still surviving; however, the ways in
which these people attempt to survive are very different. The Road highlights the varying extremes
that people will go to in order to keep their lives. Also, The Road portrays the main characters'
varying motivations to survive and hints at which character is more disposed to surviving in this
cruel, new world. Throughout the novel, the characters go to varying extremes to survive. Some
characters aim to survive while still keeping their morals intact while others abandon all human
decency and do absolutely anything that is required for their survival. The father and the son are the
characters who survive while not doing anything that they feel will diminish or jeopardize their
goodness. Many times in the novel, the father and son come across supplies that seemingly do not
belong to anyone anymore. However, each time of their fortuitous fortune, the boy always needs
reassurance that whoever the supplies had belonged to will not need them again. Also, when the
father and son come across a supply–deficient old man traveling on the road, the son begs his father
to share some of their supplies with him. Because of their own dismal supplies and the ongoing
uncertainty of acquiring new ones,

Racism And Its Effects On Africa
Africa is one of the most under–looked and misunderstood areas within our world. Unfortunately,
this issue stems from a history of oppression and disruptive influences from outside countries. Also,
it does not help that the practices of recording history in the past were not the most ethical and
sensitive to the people of Africa. With that came the opportunity for stereotyping and not really
seeking to understand the complex dynamic of the continent. Africa is vast in size with great
diversity within. The ways of living and functioning may be mysterious to industrial civilizations,
but they have much to offer and teach industrial societies. Thus, it is very important to approach and
understand Africa without generalizing stereotypes and with adequate historical framework. One of
the main issues to combat when thinking about Africa is stereotyping. There are eight major myths
that are stigmatized with Africa; however, there are two that are vital in understanding Africa. To
begin with, Africa is not one huge country, but a continent with about 53 countries. This is
extremely important to know because it combats the idea that it is just one grand one cultured land
mass. Knowing this not only gives one a deeper understanding of the world we live in, but an
awareness of the great diversity within Africa. This is further explained in the next myth that
everyone in Africa is black, pagan and uneducated. Africa is quite the opposite with a range of living

The New World Of Avatar
I agree that New Worlds need to be strikingly visual in order to make an impact because at the end
of the day, any art form or media needs to gain attention and attract viewers. A strikingly visual
setting, when done right can tell many stories. New World media involves a lot of fantasy as it is a
striking, and an innovate way to view one's world in the context of another world. Avatar is one
example of a New World media that is strikingly visual and has had a huge impact in the movie
industry, not only because it grossed over 2 billion dollars worldwide but because of the new age
technology needed to create such a masterpiece and the themes involved in the final product. The
themes highlighting colonization, and it's affect on the natives, or in this case, the Na'vi. all very
similar to the real life aspects, but done in the form of fantasy so it is taking in a place of fiction.
Another example of a strikingly visual form of New World media is photography and Michael
Cook's photography, which incorporates fantasy and reality to bring light to social issues and
various injustices that occurred due to colonization.
James Cameron's Avatar being in 3D was one element that contributed to the stiking visualization of
the movie. 3D visualizations attract viewers because 3D is the natural form of vision for predators.
Stereoscopic 3D vision contributes to a sharper and more insightful trajectory interception, hence
the reason viewers are more drawn to 3D movies than 2D ones.

Analysis Of Mary Shelley 's ' Frankenstein '
Introduction: Mary Shelley's "Frankenstein" is a book with a deep message that touches to the very
heart. This message implies that the reader will not see the story only from the perspective of the
narrator but also reveal numerous hidden opinions and form a personal interpretation of the novel.
One of its primary statements is that no one is born a monster and a "monster" is created throughout
socialization, and the process of socialization starts from the contact with the "creator". It is Victor
Frankenstein that could not take the responsibility for his creature and was not able to take care of
his "child". Pride and vanity were the qualities that directed Victor Frankenstein to his discovery of
life: "...So much has been done, exclaimed the soul of Frankenstein–more, far more, will I achieve:
treading in the steps already marked, I will pioneer a new way, explore unknown powers, and unfold
to the world the deepest mysteries of creation"[p.47]. He could not cope with this discovery and
simply ignored it. The tragedy of Victor Frankenstein and the tragedy of his creature is the same – it
is the tragedy of loneliness and confronting the world, trying to find a place in it and deserve
someone's love. The creature would have never become a monster if it got the love it strived for.
Victor Frankenstein would have never converted his creature into a monster if he knew how to love
and take responsibility for the ones we bring to this world. According to Mary Shelley's

What do you see when you visit a city for the first time, or look at a movie or, what do you hear

A recent nationwide survey completed by the Barna Research Group determined that only 4 percent

What kind of lens do you use to view the events in the world? Believers should see the world

Metaphors And The Natural World
Whether we know it or not, we make use of metaphors daily in many ways to help us make sense of
the world. A metaphor is defined as a figure of speech that identifies an object or an idea that is
similar to an unrelated thing. The use of metaphors and the language that they portray help to create
new insight into the universe. They not only help classify the natural world, and help interpret the
scientific world, but they also set outlooks on individuals culture and society; however, some may
argue that metaphors are an impractical use of our language that only complicate things that can
instead be stated clearer. Our perspectives and the way we think are directly linked to how we talk
and communicate in in the natural world and how we are viwed by society. This is explained further
in detailed in Metaphors We Live By, because it clearly shows how individuals shape their
perspectives based on their experiences in society: "In most of the little things we do every day, we
simply think and act more or less automatically along certain lines," (Lackoff & Johnson 3). This
furthers proves how much metaphors can affect the way we think and the way we see the world
from what we undergo and experience in our life––it is what gives us an opinion on certain matters
of race, gender, religion, etc. We all think and act according to how we interact with our society and
it is the power of metaphors that help guide and change one's beliefs to help portray our own
perspective for others.

Analysis Of The Movie ' 7 ' Series '
7 –Up series was created because the director wanted to show the world that a group of children
could make a better nation. To be honest, 7–up series got my attention because recording fourteen
people lives every seven years means a lot of work and dedication. Moreover, I feel that this series
was created mostly to entertain the public all over the world which makes me feel concerned about
all the characters involved. 7–up characters had the responsibility to show the world that you can
succeed no matter your background. Also, I perceive this series played an important role to initiate
reality TV shows. The 7– up series was famous worldwide that even Asia imitated it. Overall, the
main reason this film was created was to have a glimpse of the future of England, which I found
absurd because an entire nation is not defined by short film based on fourteen children.
One of the advantages that you can appreciate from this film is that ambitions and life in general are
not stable at all; however, personality and character traits tend to remain the same. The disadvantage
that these characters had was that they didn't have the opportunity to choose if they wanted to be
part of the program or not. These children exposed their personal and professional lives to the entire
world. There were scenes in the film where the characters looked sentimental and uncomfortable,
and the director kept recording. I found that really annoying and disrespectful because they invaded

The World is Too Much With Us by William Wordsworth Essay
The World is Too Much With Us by William Wordsworth
William Wordsworth's poem The world is too much with us is a statement about conflict between
nature and humanity. The symbolism in his poem illustrates a sense of the conviction and deep
feelings Wordsworth had toward nature. He longs for a much simpler time when the progress of
humanity was tempered by the restriction nature imposed. Wordsworth is saying in this poem that
man is wasting his time on earth by not appreciating nature around him. He is looking but not
beholding. "We have given our hearts away" (4) means that we have sold the part of us that is from
the earth (man which is from dust) in order to make other things more important than appreciating
life; such as, money or ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Unlike society, Wordsworth does not see nature as a commodity. The verse "Little we see in Nature
that is ours" (3), shows that coexisting is the relationship envisioned. This relationship appears to be
at the mercy of mankind because of the vulnerable way nature is described. The verse "This Sea that
bares her bosom to the moon" (5), gives the vision of a woman exposed to the heavens. In addition,
the phrase "sleeping flowers"(7) might also describe how nature is being overrun unknowingly.
Wordsworth seems to foresee the inevitable, because he sees himself as one with the environment.
The verse "I, standing on this pleasant lea, have glimpses that would make me less forlorn" (11–12),
shows Wordsworth as a visionary who is not responsible for the destruction of nature. In addition,
the change Wordsworth is hoping for will come in the form of a mighty revolt by nature. This is why
Wordsworth reaches back into ancient Greece for their gods who symbolize nature and strength to
make the change. Proteus was a sea god who could change his appearance to get away from capture.
Proteus is seen rising from the sea, facing the injustices inflicted upon nature, placing the cycle of
life back in balance. The ability to change ones appearance is critical in facing the variety of threats
mankind might impose. The god Triton was also mentioned as a savior to nature as well. Triton was
the most imposing of the gods

someone when in reality you may not even understand anything about the person at all. Today,
society is often quick to judge and make assumptions about individuals without even knowing their
story and sometimes even half of their story. Being a teenager and a young adult in the world today
can be difficult. We are told how to act and how to dress according to the world's standards. Harper
Lee taught me the importance of being myself through her story about Scout. I now know how
important it is to stand up for myself and never let anyone belittle my values. The first time I read To
Kill a Mockingbird I was amazed and honestly a little bit confused. There was such an incredible
and powerful lesson taught throughout the book. It was not a lesson that many sixteen year olds like
myself even paid attention to or would even begin to apply to their lives. People are not always as
they seem. People often put on a strong front, even when they are feeling weak. People often have a
hidden past that they are ashamed about. People may have been through so many experiences that
they are a little

How Societies Choose To Fail Or Succeed By Jared Diamond...
Picture yourself as a ghostly spectator who is looking onto future archaeologists rummaging through
the remnants of your old house. They are picking up and evaluating your old books, electronics, and
clothes and considering what each item would have been used for, and how did this individual's
society come to be a ruinous, abandoned mess. This is an impossible imagination for someone who
has yet to read Collapse: How Societies Choose to Fail or Succeed by Jared Diamond. In his book,
he states that a society has five determining factors that decide whether it will prevail or collapse:
human–inflicted environmental damage, climate change, hostile neighbors, decreased support from
friendly neighbors, and how a society responds to its problems. Diamond, the creator of this five–
point framework, adequately supports his framework by providing much evidence about the
collapses and potential collapses of past and current societies, such ... Show more content on

In order for societies to grow and develop, they must consume the resources from their environment;
in many cases, the consumption of such resources without a quota will cause an expenditure rate
higher than that of a regrowth rate, which will eventually lead into a complete depletion. A
significant example of this is deforestation. Although different regions have differing levels of
deforestation, there are resulting problems from deforestation, such as decreased wild game, infertile
soil, and soil erosion. Great examples of deforestation, as illustrated by Diamond, are the Easter
Islanders and the Norse of Greenland. The first inhabitants of Easter Island are believed to have
come from the western islands of Polynesia by boats around 900 A.D. Pollen and charcoal samples
show the disappearance of plant species (including trees) at between 1400 and 1600 A.D. With all
their forests cleared, the islanders were left with a loss of an important resource

The Pre-Islamic Middle East

  • 1. The Pre-Islamic Middle East Many people in out fast pace progressive world today are very accepting of things just the way they are. In recent times, many like to rush to assumptions and ask few questions. It's not rare for our young millennial's to get their news from Jon Stewart and the comedy central channel and it's rare for most to research or even ask questions like, . . . What happened? . . . How did it start? . . . or Who initiated this? Curiosity seems to elude much of our young society. However, I of an inquiring mind, was enlightened during these lectures as we addressed Pre–Islamic civilizations and the root of this controversial faith. Professor Khan was able shed some light on the Arabic society and the origin of Islam before it was a religion. VIDEO–LECTURE 3 The Pre–Islamic Middle East was surprisingly similar to many societies today. Just like people in modern time, these civilizations were diverse, multicultural, and were very quick to adopt and modify any influences they favored. This Western influence can be seen in their architecture, and art such as their Pagan deities sculpted in Greek form. I found it very interesting that we as human beings still maintain the ... • 3. Analysis Of Cormac Mccarthy 's ' The Road ' How Effectively Does McCarthy Create a Sense of What a Post–Apocalyptic World Would be Like? Cormac McCarthy creates a sense of what a post–apocalyptic society in the novel 'The Road'. He does this by including dreams, description of the physical landscape and human behaviour. This helps create a sense of a post–apocalyptic world because it gives us insight into what it looks like and how the people think. McCarthy uses dreams as a recurring theme throughout the text in order to create his post– apocalyptic world. The novel opens with a dream, in which the author creates a monster. The author uses dreams to create a contrast between a perfect dream world and the cold, dark terrifying world that the characters live in now. 'Its bowels, its beating heart. The brain that pulsed in a dull glass bell'. This could be the author creating a metaphor for the horror that the characters are about to face throughout the book. Towards the middle of the book the man says that 'The right dreams for a man in peril were dreams of peril and all else was the call of languor and death. He dreamt of walking in a flowering wood where birds flew before them... but he was learning how to wake himself from such siren worlds... with the uncanny taste of a peach from some phantom orchard fading in his mouth...' The father feels this because his reality and his life are so terrible, he can only have perilous dreams because if he were to have dreams that were soft, pleasant and warming then they would ... • 5. The Golden Age Of Islamic Thought And Its Cultural Impact... Growing up I always wondered what was going on before the year 2,000. What about year 1,000? I had learned as far back as the 1700s but I still had not found what I really wanted to know. When I did the reading for "The Golden Age of Islamic Thought and Its Cultural Impact on Europe" my question was finally answered. During the "Dark Ages" Europe was at its all time low in allowance of intellectual thinking. The sad thing being people were really dictating the way you think! While this was happening Islam was thriving in more ways than one in the 1,000s I had always wondered about. Although Islam has clearly had a significant influence on Europe, Europeans denied this fact, their invents, thoughts, and ideas even being seemingly relevant all while their society was highly influenced by said denied facts. The historians and philosophers from Europe have denied Islam the credit that it really deserves for the development of modern culture. One thing that is stupidly ignored is their impact on mathematics. In today's modern word there is more math than you could ever imagine, very difficult math at that. None of this would have truly been possible if it wasn't for Islam's contributions but Europe will always turn their heads to this fact. The common European ego is too large to simply give credit where credit is due (Something that Islam never had a problem doing). Europeans would rather deny the facts than put their pride aside and realize that it is possible for others to be ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 7. Analysis Of The Everlast : Boxing Makes You Bigger Commercial The Everlast "Boxing Makes You Bigger" commercial seems to be about boxing but is really about being a better person. This becomes more evident as the commercial progresses. The beginning focuses on boxing itself. The main character, the boxer, is seen practicing relentlessly and as a result, he wins his matches. One could attribute that to an advertising technique. The company is promoting its products by showing victorious people using them. However, most effective commercials progress a story that leads to a big "aha moment" or a message. They capture the interest of the audience using a captivating, though curtailed, storyline and make a call to action at the end. That way, viewers will be left thinking about their product or company ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It is proclaiming that boxers, who are sometimes labeled as violent and aggressive, have the heart to show kindness in any way possible. The commercial's last few moments on the screen include the words "Boxing Makes You Bigger" and Everlast's slogan "Greatness Is Within." The first one places boxing in a positive light and promotes it, but the second one is the call–to–action for everybody. "Greatness is within." This is saying that everybody has the potential to be great and contribute something to society, even if it is only for one person. The commercial takes place in a developing country, which shows just some of the problems so that viewers will be inspired to make a difference. Many people around the world are in dire need of help and it's never the wrong time to help. Today, there are millions of people around the world who go to bed hungry and pass every second of their lives in poverty. We can't ignore the problems plaguing so many people around the world. Just by giving food, clothes, and supplies, you're making someone's day a little bit brighter. • 9. The Upstream And Downstream Of Seeing By Annie Dillard The Upstream and Downstream of Seeing Annie Dillard's "Seeing" discusses the two possible ways to properly see things and relates them to light versus darkness in nature and upstream versus downstream of a river. The essay explains that there are two ways to see things in the world; to look for something specifically or to let go of the desire to see something. Both types of seeing are also combined with either brightness or darkness and with either upstream or downstream. Dillard has trouble seeing anything in the upstream of the river because that part of the river is always dark or cloudy. On the other hand, she can see the animals in the downstream of the river, where everything is bright and lively. The river is split in two different symbols which help show the best way that one should view nature. The downstream and the upstream of the river have unique characteristics because they also compare to being darkness and light. By using powerful imagery and word choice, Dillard is able to compare the two types of seeing and explain why letting go of the want to see is the best way to look at things. Dillard's powerful imagery throughout the essay is crucial for understanding the differences in seeing. For example, she is able to describe something as broad as nature by using a simile such as "nature is like one of those line drawings of a tree that are puzzles for children" (19). Since Dillard writes with such a loose structure, the imagery she creates helps clarify ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 11. Johannes Kepler 's A Perfect World Johannes Kepler was a modern individual and he believed that God would have created a perfect world and in that world everything was geometrically perfect. In Banville's book about Kepler it says, "The search for knowledge everywhere encounters geometrical relations in nature, which God, in creating the world, laid out (Banville 1981, p.145)." As he pursued the answer to planetary motion, he assumed that the planets orbited the sun in a perfect circle. He tried to seek order in his chaotic life through science and rational thought. While pursuing his research on planetary orbit, he struggled to keep his three worlds; rational, emotional, and social; in order. Kendura says that a novel provides knowledge of life as lived by individuals (Kendura 1988). Kepler's life definitely represents the hassles a normal person's life is like. In his rational world he could logically come up with a reason for different phenomenas. He spends his life researching planetary orbit and astronomical tables. Dealing with his rational world is somewhat easier than dealing with his emotional and social worlds because the rational world is based on research, facts, and evidence. For Toulmin planetary orbit is just a physical law of nature, which according to the Cartesian Dichotomy would fall under the body and not the mind. Kepler also follows the dichotomy in many ways, so he would probably agree with Toulmin. His emotional life is probably the messiest of his three worlds. In his emotional ... • 13. Neopagan Worldview Research Paper What is a worldview? Worldview is defined by Sire as : "commitment a fundamental orientation of the heart, that can be expressed as a story or in set of presuppositions that we hold about basic constitution of reality that provides foundation on which we live, move and have meaning [Sire]." Neopagan worldview "is not based of dogma or set beliefs, nor on scriptures or sacred book revealed by great man (Fisher 478)." In my opinion a worldview is a set of beliefs one holds about the world that is around them. In this paper I will elaborate on Neopagan beliefs, worldviews, and discuss how to evangelize as a Christian in their worldview. Neopagan worldview beliefs are quite different from Christian theism. One of the first worldviews they differ in is: "What is the prime reality (Sire)?" Christianity focuses on one having a personal relationship with God in order to achieve salvation from the Fall. However Neopagans focus more on practicing in communities and having a relationship to the ultimate source ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Neopagans do the opposite (DiZerega 26). Christians do not believe in one who exhibits spiritual powers pertaining to witchcraft. Christians also see them as demonic and as "fallen" individuals. Neopagans say that witchcraft does exist and they do not see them as "fallen" or demonic individuals (DiZerega 26). There are many beliefs as you can see from above, that make Christian Theism and Neopagans quite different. However, there are also many similarities between Christian theism and Neopaganism as well. Christian theism seeks to heal people from spiritual, emotional, physical pain through prayer. Neopagans also have healing rituals. Neopagans focus on spiritual healing processes in small groups. Generally Christians also have healing for individuals that take place in small settings of people as well. Also Neopagans seek to heal emotional and physical pain, similar to ... • 15. Essay on Metaphysics of Ovid and Dante Ovid wrote the Metamorphoses nearly two thousand years ago and Dante wrote Purgatorio 1600 years after that – two pieces of literature that dealt with topics which transcend humanity's perceived reality. Each piece of literature attempts to arrive at a truth concerning the essence of human existence, Dante seeks answers within the confines of Catholic dogma while Ovid approaches existence from a paganistic perspective. This demonstrates two very different approaches to the same exact query. Mankind has questioned the existence of a metaphysical realm for generations and consequently shapes the nature of the supernatural world. The complex pagan religious system of the Romans mirrored that of the Greeks, but what Ovid sought to create ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The two survivors of this flood, Deucalion and Pyrrha, then spawn the rest of humanity. Jupiter and Neptune eliminated all of mankind because they did not actively worship the gods or remain true to the laws of the gods. Ovid advocates the active participation of the gods in the physical world; so, at this point the supernatural and the physical become intertwined. The Roman gods and humans have a definite connection to one another. They are very similar in making and reacting to situations, however, they still retain a quite different nature as the gods are immortal and humanity is mortal. In fact, the gods actively participate in the occurrences on earth and thusly help to explain natural phenomena. Dante Alighieri, on the other hand, takes separating the supernatural world from the physical world to great lengths. Simply the setting of the book in a place which does not physically exist anywhere on earth, but solely in a metaphysical plane, makes the reader aware that purgatory has nothing to do with earth. This differs greatly from the viewpoint of the Greeks and consequently the Romans where the gods resided in actual places the can be seen such as the `Milky Way' (Ovid, 6) or Olympus (Ovid, 7). The purpose of this paper is to discuss the different life lessons given to Sophie and how the life around us today is completely owed to the early philosophers. Socrates, Plato, Aristotle, and many other philosophers, although persecuted for their ideas at the time, had ideas that would revolutionize society and they way they learned about the universe. She thought about her appearance; her eyes, her hair, and her frequent dissatisfaction with the way she looked. Other than that, she found it hard the answer the question (pg. 5). I think many struggle with this in general. If you are asked to describe yourself with information other than your physical features, you usually draw a blank. Why is that? The start of the twenty first century has been an adventure of a lifetime as a young adult present in the two thousand seventeen. However, when thinking about the future it has become a struggle all on its own yet certain objectives are fairly clear. We as humans are insensitive to our natural surrounding environment. It will be our ignorance to the cry of our home that will become our downfall if we do not take actions to prevent this from happening. One only truly begins to care about a concerning problem when it sits in front of our lawn, up and personal. Majority of the people have come to lose the ability to feel empathy for the larger world that cannot be seen right in front of them. I am not saying that every single person is like this because I am not. There are people in society who do take in consideration the wellbeing of others and our planet Earth, however to much of their efforts to raise awareness it is still not enough. It is not enough to make an immense impact to improve or begin to discard our long life engraved dangerous habits. We have become too content to the way we live and a danger to the lifestyle is met with resistance and hostility. The people of our current society over time have created a world where time and money has become a first priority and saving Earth has been placed in last. • 21. Essay on King Lear is a Christian Play About a Pagan World King Lear is a Christian Play About a Pagan World It is evident that King Lear contains references to both the Christian and Pagan doctrine. However, they seem to be expressed in entirely different styles. King Lear is purposefully set in a pre Christian era with numerous references to classical Gods but conversely there appears to be a striking resonance of Christian theology throughout the play. These echoes appear in various forms including the idea of Edgar being a Christ–like figure and also the presence of a supposed divine justice. Therefore there is truth in the view that although King Lear has a pagan setting, its significance is ultimately relating to Christianity. Perhaps the most ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... One form of this is the repetition of reference and request to the gods as disciplinary beings. Critics have commented particularly on the similarity of Lear's sufferings to those experienced by Job in the Bible. There are also some quotes that have biblical connotations such as Coredlia's, 'O dear father It is thy business that I go about'. There are other devices used in the play that may not have overt doctrinal messages but can be deduced as relating to the Bible. Such as the storm seeming somewhat apocalyptic and Lear wearing a crown of thorns and thus resembling Jesus. Another theme which once explored can help with understanding the religious qualities of King Lear is that of divine justice. It is clear that sinning is punished in the play. Evil may triumph for a time and cause immense suffering but within itself it carries the seeds of its own destruction and therefore will eventually fail. This point is most obviously shown through the actions of the two sisters. Goneril and Regan use their wicked ways to gain power over the land and their father but in the end their intense suspicion of each other results their demise. Gloucester is another excellent example of this punishment for sin as Edgar uses in his conversation with the dying Edmund as an instance of God's justice, 'The Gods are just, and of our pleasant vices Make instruments

It was among three poems that caught my attention, but I discarded it after I decided on "Invictus". "The World Is Too Much With Us" is about how the human race has become detached from nature and proclaiming that this is horrid this is. One perspective of this poem is to think of how we need to reaffirm our connection with the natural world. However, there is also another perspective that hides in the shadow of the first perspective. Is our attachment to modern society a positive thing? The speaker proclaims that he would rather be "...rather be a pagan suckled in a creed outworn..." so that he could enjoy nature (lines 9–10). I believe ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This implies that the speaker says that he would prefer to be removed from society so that he could live in nature. The second perspective is that participation in society is less important than having a relationship with nature. There are numerous literary devices in the poem. There is a simile in line 7 "And are up–gathered now like sleeping flowers." Finally, there are two allusions to greek gods in lines 13 and 14, Proteus and Triton respectively. Line 14 gives the example of imagery "Or hear Old Triton blow his wreathed horn". One can imagine the great sea god blowing a curled horn amid a vast ocean for all to hear. Wordsworth chose images such as this one because they were strong and powerful. This last line, with Triton sounding the wreathed horn, symbolizes that nature is calling to humanity, beckoning for us to return to the natural world. Politicians and ____ companies lock horns with artists and environmentalists to determine the fate of our natural world, a throwback to the days of revolting against revolution. The Industrial Revolution of the 1800s was in many ways a forerunner to another revolution – an uprising against industrialisation and the loss of a connection with the natural world. At the age of 7, his mother passed away, and his beloved sister Dorothy was sent to live with relatives. After all this horror had passed, Wordsworth found himself sitting on a boat on a lake. It was here that Wordsworth realised the power and awe of nature, and how he too was at Her mercy. These experiences shaped the way Wordsworth wrote his poetry, and the way in which he sought inspiration. Writers of the Romantic Era tended to focus on three specific genres: childhood, the environment, and industrialisation. • 42. Grief: The Reason Behind Personal Fable and Imaginary... Grief is an unimaginable pain that people feel at certain times in their life. Sometimes the heart wrenching pain of grief changes the way people think about the world. People soon begin to feel that they are alone in the world. These people believe that their life is so bad, that nobody out there in the world could possibly be going through the same pain as they are. They feel watched and judged. These people believe they are unique and rare. Holden Caulfield, a character from the novel, The Catcher in the Rye, and Lindsay Weir, a character from the TV Show, Freaks and Geeks, share similarities with dealing with grief through personal fables and imaginary audience. The definition of personal fable is where someone believes that they are unique in everyway possible. This ties in with imaginary audience, which means someone seeking for attention, or believing that they are constantly being watched. This ties in together, because when a person is going through a personal fable, they sometimes focus on themselves, and believe that people are focusing on them as well. It is common for adolescents to feel this way. Holden and Lindsay prove this theory. In chapter 5 of The Catcher in the Rye, Holden speaks of his younger brother Allie. Allie passed away at a young age and ever since his death, it has been hard on Holden. Holden speaks of how Allie was smart and amazing. He speaks of memories he has of Allie, almost as if that would help his pain. (Salinger, 38). In Freaks and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The same brand that is conveyed in printed marketing and sales materials should transcend to the online world. What is online branding? According to Dave Chaffey, author of Internet Marketing: Strategy, Implementation and Practice and top network marketing tips guru, online branding is defined as "how online channels are used to support brands, which in essence are the sum of the characteristics of a product or service as perceived by the user." This definition falls short. A simpler and much more accurate definition is "the combining of you or your company 's best attributes and top strengths with the legitimate value you offer. This must be established through a concise statement that will differentiate you from your peers and yet relate strongly to your target audience and then be conveyed through all online interactions regarding serious business opportunities." Entrepreneurial online branding should assist potential customers or clients in deciding whether or not they feel comfortable working with you, (such as) a women–owned home based business. It will also assist them in understanding if your company will create a synergy that is beneficial to both. Your online brand means the difference between building wealth or not because it will allow decisions–makers to easily decide whether you meet their expectations and it will set you apart from your competition. Discovery In The Pagan World The Unseen World is a novel that explains an unpleasant past story of a brilliant, socially unskilled father with secret information named David, who works as a director in a computer science lab in Boston. David's disappointment of his past, urges him to create a virtual world where he can express himself and live through artificial intelligence by personifying his desired life through his computer system. The vibrant story of Ada which is told from childhood to adulthood in David's house portrays as an outsider world that is very memorable, bright with some possible reservation yet full of curiosity and passion. The Unseen World themes are the mystery, heartbreak, and the lack of inhibition that is usually felt in the comfort of one's own home. The house in the novel represents the place of protection where ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... When someone is isolated from the real world, they develop the impression that they are different from others. This situation often makes them adapt to any device as a companion, which as a result programs their mind to the only environment they expose. This occurrence often tends to create a virtual world for someone who constantly practices this life style. The concept of seclusion is worth taking into consideration because it helps to understand the parental influence on child behavior in the house. In regard to Ada in the novel, she was not socially involved because of the way David raised her. As the author, Liz Moore illustrates in the novel The Unseen World "she could not get used to this fact about girls her own age: their volume, their exuberance, the outlandishness of their humor; the way they invented wild, improbable scenarios in their heads and then speculated about them." • 54. The Road By Cormac Mccarthy The novel, The Road, by Cormac McCarthy follows the journey of a father and son through an almost entirely desolated and post–apocalyptic United States. After an unexplained, catastrophic event takes place, the world is left in ruins. Very few people are still surviving; however, the ways in which these people attempt to survive are very different. The Road highlights the varying extremes that people will go to in order to keep their lives. Also, The Road portrays the main characters' varying motivations to survive and hints at which character is more disposed to surviving in this cruel, new world. Throughout the novel, the characters go to varying extremes to survive. Some characters aim to survive while still keeping their morals intact while others abandon all human decency and do absolutely anything that is required for their survival. The father and the son are the characters who survive while not doing anything that they feel will diminish or jeopardize their goodness. Many times in the novel, the father and son come across supplies that seemingly do not belong to anyone anymore. However, each time of their fortuitous fortune, the boy always needs reassurance that whoever the supplies had belonged to will not need them again. Also, when the father and son come across a supply–deficient old man traveling on the road, the son begs his father to share some of their supplies with him. • 56. Racism And Its Effects On Africa Africa is one of the most under–looked and misunderstood areas within our world. Unfortunately, this issue stems from a history of oppression and disruptive influences from outside countries. Also, it does not help that the practices of recording history in the past were not the most ethical and sensitive to the people of Africa. With that came the opportunity for stereotyping and not really seeking to understand the complex dynamic of the continent. Africa is vast in size with great diversity within. The ways of living and functioning may be mysterious to industrial civilizations, but they have much to offer and teach industrial societies. Thus, it is very important to approach and understand Africa without generalizing stereotypes and with adequate historical framework. One of the main issues to combat when thinking about Africa is stereotyping. There are eight major myths that are stigmatized with Africa; however, there are two that are vital in understanding Africa. To begin with, Africa is not one huge country, but a continent with about 53 countries. This is extremely important to know because it combats the idea that it is just one grand one cultured land mass. Knowing this not only gives one a deeper understanding of the world we live in, but an awareness of the great diversity within Africa. This is further explained in the next myth that everyone in Africa is black, pagan and uneducated. Africa is quite the opposite with a range of living standards and forms of ... • 58. The New World Of Avatar I agree that New Worlds need to be strikingly visual in order to make an impact because at the end of the day, any art form or media needs to gain attention and attract viewers. A strikingly visual setting, when done right can tell many stories. New World media involves a lot of fantasy as it is a striking, and an innovate way to view one's world in the context of another world. Avatar is one example of a New World media that is strikingly visual and has had a huge impact in the movie industry, not only because it grossed over 2 billion dollars worldwide but because of the new age technology needed to create such a masterpiece and the themes involved in the final product. The themes highlighting colonization, and it's affect on the natives, or in this case, the Na'vi. all very similar to the real life aspects, but done in the form of fantasy so it is taking in a place of fiction. Another example of a strikingly visual form of New World media is photography and Michael Cook's photography, which incorporates fantasy and reality to bring light to social issues and various injustices that occurred due to colonization. James Cameron's Avatar being in 3D was one element that contributed to the stiking visualization of the movie. 3D visualizations attract viewers because 3D is the natural form of vision for predators. Stereoscopic 3D vision contributes to a sharper and more insightful trajectory interception, hence the reason viewers are more drawn to 3D movies than 2D ones. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 60. Analysis Of Mary Shelley 's ' Frankenstein ' Introduction: Mary Shelley's "Frankenstein" is a book with a deep message that touches to the very heart. This message implies that the reader will not see the story only from the perspective of the narrator but also reveal numerous hidden opinions and form a personal interpretation of the novel. One of its primary statements is that no one is born a monster and a "monster" is created throughout socialization, and the process of socialization starts from the contact with the "creator". It is Victor Frankenstein that could not take the responsibility for his creature and was not able to take care of his "child". Pride and vanity were the qualities that directed Victor Frankenstein to his discovery of life: "...So much has been done, exclaimed the soul of Frankenstein–more, far more, will I achieve: treading in the steps already marked, I will pioneer a new way, explore unknown powers, and unfold to the world the deepest mysteries of creation"[p.47]. He could not cope with this discovery and simply ignored it. The tragedy of Victor Frankenstein and the tragedy of his creature is the same – it is the tragedy of loneliness and confronting the world, trying to find a place in it and deserve someone's love. The creature would have never become a monster if it got the love it strived for. Victor Frankenstein would have never converted his creature into a monster if he knew how to love and take responsibility for the ones we bring to this world. According to Mary Shelley's ... The answers to these questions depend on your worldview. So, what is a worldview? A worldview is described as "the framework from which we view reality and make sense of life and the world." David Noebel, author of Understanding the Times said, "A worldview is any ideology, philosophy, theology, movement or religion that provides an overarching approach to understanding God, the world and man 's relations to God and the world," Your worldview is like a set of lenses through which you view the world. A Christian worldview leads us to believe in moral absolutes, miracles, human dignity, and the possibility of redemption. A recent nationwide survey completed by the Barna Research Group determined that only 4 percent of Americans had a "biblical" worldview. What kind of lens do you use to view the events in the world? Believers should see the world differently because we should filter everything in the world through the lens of Scripture. So, when you look at a movie do you filter it through the lens of Scripture? When you listen to the news, do you filter it through the lens of Scripture? Do you filter conversations through the lens of Scripture? Do you observe what's happening around you through the lens of Scripture? As Paul arrived in Athens he experienced deep distressed when he saw that idols dominated the city. Because Paul had a Christian worldview, the presence of so many idols immediately disturbed him. Let's back up. Paul arrived in Berea after escaping from Thessalonica. Luke tells us that the Bereans had a more opened mind than the Thessalonians. They gladly listened to the message from Paul. They studied the Scriptures every day to weigh the truth of they heard. • 68. Metaphors And The Natural World Whether we know it or not, we make use of metaphors daily in many ways to help us make sense of the world. A metaphor is defined as a figure of speech that identifies an object or an idea that is similar to an unrelated thing. The use of metaphors and the language that they portray help to create new insight into the universe. They not only help classify the natural world, and help interpret the scientific world, but they also set outlooks on individuals culture and society; however, some may argue that metaphors are an impractical use of our language that only complicate things that can instead be stated clearer. Our perspectives and the way we think are directly linked to how we talk and communicate in in the natural world and how we are viwed by society. This is explained further in detailed in Metaphors We Live By, because it clearly shows how individuals shape their perspectives based on their experiences in society: "In most of the little things we do every day, we simply think and act more or less automatically along certain lines," (Lackoff & Johnson 3). This furthers proves how much metaphors can affect the way we think and the way we see the world from what we undergo and experience in our life––it is what gives us an opinion on certain matters of race, gender, religion, etc. We all think and act according to how we interact with our society and it is the power of metaphors that help guide and change one's beliefs to help portray our own perspective for others. ... To be honest, 7–up series got my attention because recording fourteen people lives every seven years means a lot of work and dedication. Moreover, I feel that this series was created mostly to entertain the public all over the world which makes me feel concerned about all the characters involved. 7–up characters had the responsibility to show the world that you can succeed no matter your background. Also, I perceive this series played an important role to initiate reality TV shows. The 7– up series was famous worldwide that even Asia imitated it. Overall, the main reason this film was created was to have a glimpse of the future of England, which I found absurd because an entire nation is not defined by short film based on fourteen children. One of the advantages that you can appreciate from this film is that ambitions and life in general are not stable at all; however, personality and character traits tend to remain the same. The disadvantage that these characters had was that they didn't have the opportunity to choose if they wanted to be part of the program or not. These children exposed their personal and professional lives to the entire world. There were scenes in the film where the characters looked sentimental and uncomfortable, and the director kept recording. I found that really annoying and disrespectful because they invaded the characters ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 75. The World is Too Much With Us by William Wordsworth Essay The World is Too Much With Us by William Wordsworth William Wordsworth's poem The world is too much with us is a statement about conflict between nature and humanity. The symbolism in his poem illustrates a sense of the conviction and deep feelings Wordsworth had toward nature. He longs for a much simpler time when the progress of humanity was tempered by the restriction nature imposed. Wordsworth is saying in this poem that man is wasting his time on earth by not appreciating nature around him. He is looking but not beholding. "We have given our hearts away" (4) means that we have sold the part of us that is from the earth (man which is from dust) in order to make other things more important than appreciating life; such as, money or ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Unlike society, Wordsworth does not see nature as a commodity. The verse "Little we see in Nature that is ours" (3), shows that coexisting is the relationship envisioned. This relationship appears to be at the mercy of mankind because of the vulnerable way nature is described. The verse "This Sea that bares her bosom to the moon" (5), gives the vision of a woman exposed to the heavens. In addition, the phrase "sleeping flowers"(7) might also describe how nature is being overrun unknowingly. Wordsworth seems to foresee the inevitable, because he sees himself as one with the environment. The verse "I, standing on this pleasant lea, have glimpses that would make me less forlorn" (11–12), shows Wordsworth as a visionary who is not responsible for the destruction of nature. In addition, the change Wordsworth is hoping for will come in the form of a mighty revolt by nature. This is why Wordsworth reaches back into ancient Greece for their gods who symbolize nature and strength to make the change. Proteus was a sea god who could change his appearance to get away from capture. Proteus is seen rising from the sea, facing the injustices inflicted upon nature, placing the cycle of life back in balance. The ability to change ones appearance is critical in facing the variety of threats mankind might impose. The god Triton was also mentioned as a savior to nature as well. Triton was the most imposing of the gods ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

To Kill a Mockingbird has made an incredible impact on my life and has made me realize many things. As I have gotten older I have begun to realize how things are not always as they appear to be. Whether it is people, situations or even opportunities. You may think you know or understand someone when in reality you may not even understand anything about the person at all. Today, society is often quick to judge and make assumptions about individuals without even knowing their story and sometimes even half of their story. Being a teenager and a young adult in the world today can be difficult. We are told how to act and how to dress according to the world's standards. Harper Lee taught me the importance of being myself through her story about Scout. I now know how important it is to stand up for myself and never let anyone belittle my values. The first time I read To Kill a Mockingbird I was amazed and honestly a little bit confused. There was such an incredible and powerful lesson taught throughout the book. It was not a lesson that many sixteen year olds like myself even paid attention to or would even begin to apply to their lives. People are not always as they seem. People often put on a strong front, even when they are feeling weak. People often have a hidden past that they are ashamed about. They are picking up and evaluating your old books, electronics, and clothes and considering what each item would have been used for, and how did this individual's society come to be a ruinous, abandoned mess. This is an impossible imagination for someone who has yet to read Collapse: How Societies Choose to Fail or Succeed by Jared Diamond. In his book, he states that a society has five determining factors that decide whether it will prevail or collapse: human–inflicted environmental damage, climate change, hostile neighbors, decreased support from friendly neighbors, and how a society responds to its problems. Diamond, the creator of this five– point framework, adequately supports his framework by providing much evidence about the collapses and potential collapses of past and current societies, such ... In order for societies to grow and develop, they must consume the resources from their environment; in many cases, the consumption of such resources without a quota will cause an expenditure rate higher than that of a regrowth rate, which will eventually lead into a complete depletion. A significant example of this is deforestation. Although different regions have differing levels of deforestation, there are resulting problems from deforestation, such as decreased wild game, infertile soil, and soil erosion. Great examples of deforestation, as illustrated by Diamond, are the Easter Islanders and the Norse of Greenland. The first inhabitants of Easter Island are believed to have come from the western islands of Polynesia by boats around 900 A.D.
