Executive Summary
Pran Group of Industries is one of the leading business institution of Bangladesh. One of the
major organizational goals is to reduce poverty and hunger through large scale employment
generation. It is contributing directly to the economy of Bangladesh through its cooperation with
farmers and export earnings. The major strengths of Pran in Bangladesh are experience, large
company, greater sources of finance, greater control over sources of raw materials, risk-pooling,
huge distribution network, conforming to standards, economic of scale, potential market in
U.A.E. U.A.E offers opportunities such as unity of religion and large Bangladeshi and Both
countries have good relationship with each other. Also Dubai is free trade zone , which they
opened for foreign investors to invest there with least trade restrictions offering so many
facilities to do business in the cosmopolitan environment. Finally, the fruit processing industry
has a tremendous potential to contribute to economic progress in Bangladesh. Juice and squash
production make up 16.5% of this potentially lucrative industry and that is why we think export
of fruit juice is ultimately an important way of improving our Bangladeshi economy.

Company Background
‘PRAN’ started its operation in 1981 as a processors fruit and vegetable in Bangladesh. Over the
years, the company has not only grown in stature but also contributed significantly to the overall
socio-economic development of the country.
“PRAN” is currently one of the most admired food & beverages brand among the millions of
people of Bangladesh and other 82 countries of the world where PRAN Products are regularly
being exported.
All the PRAN products are produced as per international standards maintaining highest level of
quality at every stages of its production process.
PRAN is currently producing more than 200 food products under 10 different categories i.e.
Juices, Drinks, Mineral Water, Bakery, Carbonated beverages, Snacks, Culinary, Confectionery,
Biscuits & Dairy. The company has adopted ISO 9001 as a guiding principle of its management
system. The company is complaint to HACCP & certified with HALAL which ensures only the
best quality products are reaches to the consumers table across the Globe.

Management Functions of Pran
(Planning)
PRAN is blessed with a climate ideally suited to agriculture, specially fruits and vegetables-rich
in taste and flavor: sweet, mellow and juicy in Bangladesh. Their deltaic plains are among the
most fertile in the world created and drained by the mighty rivers-the Padma, Jamuna & Meghna.
There is plenty of water. And farming is a way of life to the people. Their comparative
advantage as an economy lies in agriculture. We can see Pran’s planning below:-
First of all their plan is to make economic prosperity through agro-business.
2nd PRAN is in testimony to the people’s convictions. It stands for: “Program for Rural
Advancement Nationally” or in Bangla .It means they planned to
help the rural people also.
PRAN is Bangladesh’s largest grower and processor of fruits and vegetables. Their
contract growers cultivate the choicest fruits and vegetables which are processed in their
modern and hygienic factories to highest quality & international standards. And through
this power their main plan is to maximize their profit.

Organizing
Organization Performance:
PRAN actually measure their employees organizational performance through their work
processes and co-ordination among them. PRAN is a family with lots of their employees like
family members. PRAN wants to reach their goal and organize it by following these criteria:-
1. Productivity:
The input of employees which is needed to generate the overall output of PRAN’s goods and
services each measure by PRAN. They measure the overall productivity rate whether it is high or
low. They see that the desired output is balanced with the inputs or not. Ultimately they measure
how efficiently employees do their work.
2. Effectiveness:
For this effectiveness they follow 3 models
a) System Resources Model: Under this model they measure that their organization is
resources related or not, they using the proper variables or not.
b) The Process Model: Through this model PRAN measure their organization’s input and
output change. That means they see whether their organization is efficient in converting inputs to
outputs or not.
c) The multiple constituency model: Like every organization PRAN has also some multiple
need. Through this model they decide by whom they can control everyone’s need.

Leading
It is that part of managerial function which actuates the organizational methods to work
efficiently for achievement of organizational purposes. It is considered life-spark of the
enterprise which sets it in motion the action of people because planning, organizing and
staffing are the mere preparations for doing the work. Direction is that inert-personnel
aspect of management which deals directly with influencing, guiding, supervising,
motivating sub-ordinate for the achievement of organizational goals.
PRAN is one of the largest food processing organizations in Bangladesh, there
leading system is more strong than others. In Leading system PRAN has
some following elements:
Supervision- PRAN creates a friendly environment for its employees and managers. In-
house learning opportunities are provided by managers working closely with employees to
structure appropriate on-the-job activities to meet identified developmental needs.
Motivation- PRAN always tries to inspire, stimulate or encourage the sub-ordinates with zeal
to work. They treat employees as their asset. Since employee retention and increased
productivity are important for them, they try to make their employees satisfied by many activities
like; PRAN provides extra payment on their performance, health and life safeguard at home and
abroad, financial support for their children, transportation and canteen facilities, employees are
rewarded with salary, commission and incentives as per standards and so on.
Communications- PRAN has a good communication link through their employees and
managers. All the employees have a good interpersonal skill.
Leadership- Managers of PRAN guides and influences the
work of subordinates in desired direction. They show a good leadership to the organization.

Controlling
Following are the characteristics of controlling function of management-
Controlling is an end function- A function which comes once the performances are made in
conformities with plans. PRAN is very much successful here.
Controlling is a pervasive function- which means it is performed by managers at all
levels and in all type of concerns. All the employees of PRAN try to perform as good as possible.
Controlling is forward looking- Because effective control is not possible without past
being controlled. Controlling always look to future so that follow-up can be made whenever
required. PRAN is very much matured in their Future Planning. We can see now they are joined
with RFL.
Controlling is a dynamic process- Since controlling requires taking reviewable methods,
changes have to be made wherever possible. PRAN exactly do this thing with full concentration.
Controlling is related with planning- Planning and Controlling are two in separable
functions of management. Without planning, controlling is a meaningless exercise and
without controlling, planning is useless. Planning presupposes controlling and controlling
succeeds planning. PRAN GROUP is sustaining through establishment of their standard
performance, measurement of actual performance and Comparison of actual performance with
the standards and finding out deviation if any Corrective action.
PRAN is maintaining all the above functions very nicely and for this reason they are now a big
firm and a successful firm in the market of Bangladesh.

Conclusion
The marketing commitment of PRAN is based on the relationship with its consumer by not only
manufacturing the quality product but also delivering the product by maintaining the same
quality. To satisfy the consumer PRAN is launching regularly new products and introducing new
flavors. And this commitment has positioned PRAN as the market leading BRAND by gaining
the consumer’s trust.
