Greektown is a neighborhood located on Chicago's Near West Side along Halsted Street. It is easily accessible via public transportation. Greektown began in the 1840s with Greek ship captains and food peddlers settling in the area and opening restaurants. It grew in popularity throughout the 20th century and remains a predominantly Greek neighborhood, though its proximity to universities has introduced more diversity. Notable activities in Greektown include visiting Greek restaurants along Halsted Street, admiring the architecture, and attending the annual Taste of Greece Festival.
