Greektown is a neighborhood in Chicago that is home to many Greek restaurants and cultural sites. The first Greeks arrived in the 1840s as ship captains, and most restaurants opened between 1970-1990. In 1996, the city recognized Greektown's contributions and invested in renovations. It is known for the Greek Independence Day Parade each March 25th. The population is around 33,000 with above average crime and mostly white collar jobs. Greektown has many landmarks like the Pavilion, Peristyle, and Monument paying homage to Greek architecture and mythology.
