How Does Your Media Product Represent Particular Social Groups?
1. My main target audience is male. This is the
core reason I went for a women as my main
cover image. My model is young, blonde and
very attractive, something that will draw the
attention of males towards this magazine. She
is looking straight towards the camera urging
the passers-by to buy me. Almost teasing yet
still giving off plenty of attitude. You can see a
similar pose done on Rolling Stones magazine
with Amy Winehouse, which is also a rock
based magazine. I didn’t want to ignore the
female audience either otherwise id would
have lost 50% of my market straight away, so
all though there is a girl on front she is
covered up in a dignified way and therefore
not derogating women. There is also an image
of a man posing on the front cover as well. So
all in all there is a little something for
everyone.
2. When I started this section of the project I
always wanted it to be about the music and
have that as my main focus point. I wanted
my target audience to be people who
appreciated talent and music at its finest.
Now normally the first thing that comes to
anyone’s head when asked to associate
something with rock music is the electric
guitar, this is why I had to use it somehow in
my music magazine. It just wouldn’t quite
have the same feel to it without it. So I took
this one shot with Rosalind with the guitar
held over her head, I thought it was good
because it symbolised the music was the most
important thing, being on top and the most
dominant part in the picture. Sometimes a
picture can say more than the worlds, for
example like in the front cover of Q magazine
with the leader singer from Muse, Matt
Bellamy and a guitar.
3. I couldn’t find anything similar in any other kind of magazine so it thought I’d
include it because I know how audiences, especially teenagers, love new things
and ideas, something fresh that they had never seen before. Keeping with the
old school theme of vinyl’s I decided to create lots of individual polaroid pictures
of all the images I had taken during my photo shoot and then scatter them out.
It took ages because I had to make each one on its own but I feel it was worth it.
In most double page spreads the pictures you see in them are all very
professional, almost artificial looking so I thought it would be a great idea to put
funny, non-serious ones in there as well, just to show the musician is just as
down to earth as the reader is and that its light hearted and something to enjoy.
