HFMD is a common infectious disease that mainly affects children under 5 years old, though adults and youth can also be vulnerable. It is commonly caused by enteroviruses, including Coxsackie Virus A16 and Enterovirus-71. Symptoms include rashes and blisters on the hands, feet, buttocks and mouth, as well as fever, sore throat and lack of energy. The disease spreads through direct contact with blister fluid or contaminated surfaces, as well as coughing, sneezing or contact with feces. Good hygiene practices like hand washing and disinfecting surfaces can help prevent the spread of HFMD.
