The Religion Of The 20th Century
The religion was first founded in New York in 1844 by William Miller. Miller started out being a
deist, but he converted and became a baptist preacher. Finally creating his own religion, and his
followers were known as Millerites. Later in 1854, J.N. Andrews, Miller, Joseph Bates, and Ellen G.
and James Springer White created the official Seventh Day Adventist Church. The official name of
Seventh Day Adventist was not officially put into place until 1863 at the first conference and
formation of the Seventh Day Adventist(SDA) Church on May 21. By the early 1870's SDA began
to send missionaries to Europe and Australia. In 1849, the first SDA newspaper was printed in
Middletown, Connecticut. The following year two more SDA related newspapers ... Show more

The people that are considered unworthy get destroyed, and the people that pass help Jesus create a
heaven on earth and everyone lives there in peace forever. The people that were saved are
considered God–like at that point. The SDAs believe that the first covenant made between the
people and God was essentially a covenant of death. They believe we owe God our lives because he
did for us. One obtains happiness by being chosen to live on the newly created planet during the
second resurrection. The only way to get chosen and live a "perfect" life is to follow every
commandment word for word. The SDAs believe that the only day that is to be rested upon is
Saturday. This is because in the creation story God rested on the seventh day. They believe just as
Catholics that Abortions is wrong. It is impossible for us to be God. This is because we are created
in his image and likeness, but we are not as powerful as God. He was the first, therefore, he knows
better than us. The United States and Europe have the biggest population of Seventh–Day
Adventists in the world. The next largest population is in Asia and South America. By learning
about this religion, it helps one to be able to better defend their faith, and understand where they
have gone wrong in their life. It also helps one be able to better understand where someone of that
faith is coming

A Plant–Based Diet as a Prescriptive Measure: Should Health Care Providers Recommend A Vegan
Diet to High–Risk Patients For the Prevention or Treatment of Non–Communicable or Chronic
Diseases?
David Arthur, MS, PA–S
The term non–communicable disease refers to set of chronic, slowly progressing, long–duration
illnesses that are not infectious and are responsible for more deaths globally than any other cause.1
In 2011, in most high and middle–income countries, non–communicable diseases were responsible
for more deaths than all other causes combined.1 These same chronic diseases are also referred to as
lifestyle diseases by some practitioners, as they are recognized as having lifestyle choice as primary
risk–factors, and possibly, treatment modalities centered around lifestyle modification.2 The four
primary non–communicable diseases, as identified by the World Health Organization, are
cardiovascular disease, malignant neoplasm, respiratory disease, and diabetes mellitus.3 The power
of lifestyle choices to effectively address some of the most vexing chronic diseases of our time is
well established.4 Adherence to four healthy lifestyle tenets–not smoking, not being obese, getting
at least thirty minutes of moderate activity per day, and eating a diet consisting primarily of
vegetables, fruit, and whole grains, may have the net effect of addressing the primary sources of
disease and death in western society.4 Strictly adhering to each of these healthy lifestyle choices

Difference Between Buddhism And Vegetarianism
The views present in both the Buddhist and Christian views are not consistent with all of its
adherents. In Buddhism, there is a slight discrepancy in whether consuming meat opposed what
dictated in the First Precept. According to Buddhist scriptures, Buddha was not a vegetarian, nor did
he instruct his followers to adhere to that diet. The main rule, however, was to eat whatever they
were offered. While the Monastic rules, which relate to monks, of the Theravada tradition outlined
that if meat was placed in their begging bowls, they were obliged to eat it; therefore, the
consumption of meat was permitted. Meanwhile, in the Mahayana tradition, Buddhists argue that
animals suffer in the production of meat, which contradicts the notion of them not harming or killing
living beings. Buddhists from ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Each of the diverse sects also have slightly different scriptures, which may prescribe different rules.
Today, Buddhists must weigh up the ideas put forth and consider them, based on their own beliefs
and understanding; therefore, some Buddhists may believe it necessary to observe vegetarianism,
while some may not (13). Diversity in views between Christian denominations exists between
Catholic and Seventh–Day Adventist beliefs. The Seventh–Day Adventists are a sect of the
Protestant Church. Even though, vegetarianism is not a requirement, but is heavily encouraged. One
of the many factors that contribute to the belief that vegetarianism is necessary is the views
regarding creation. When God created Earth and humanity, he ensured that humans would be
adequately supplied so that they could be comfortable and healthy. In addition to having a duty to
protect the environment and animals, humans are also obligated to protect another one of God's
gifts: themselves. Seventh–Day Adventists believe that eating a meat–free diet is a suitable way to

Seventh Day Adventist Controversy
The development of the Seventh–Day Adventists church has not come absent from controversy.
Discrepancy has been in our midst since our origins, at times, even theological misunderstandings
have also been part of the development of our doctrines. In spite of disagreements, it has been the
church's efforts to avoid an officially adopted creedal statement, preferring as a denomination an
open–end theology. This has been treasured by the church because it allows new light to penetrate,
but at the same time creates room for different biblical understandings to emerge, which could lead
to confusion. Perhaps one of the most controversial issues in the church was the publication in the
year 1957 of the book called, "Seventh–day Adventists Answer

What Is A Speech-Language Pathologist?
Advances in critical care, have enabled us to prolong survival, even if it results in a quality of life
that is considered poor. Because medical knowledge and technology can only forestall death,
difficult moral and ethical questions remain. Many speech–language pathologists (SLPs) working in
the health care field will, at some point, be faced with a patient's end of life issues. SLPs provide a
great deal of care to patients approaching this stage of their lives, and they are an essential part of
the patient's health care team (ASHA, 2015). SLPs have to learn new roles and acquire new
communication skills to integrate their services with others in addressing the patients and their
families (Shadden, 2012). Patients may have different religions ... Show more content on

medical interventions that artificially extend human life, which then permits a person to die

interventions that only prolong suffering and postpone the moment of death is morally different
from actions that have as their primary intention the direct taking of a life ( org ) the church's
position statement on care for the dying states that patients are not obligated "to accept medical

The Seventh Day Adventists Vs. Christianity
The Seventh Day Adventists have many beliefs similar to Christianity. However, they also have
many beliefs that differ from Christianity. Both belief systems can be categorized into six main
categories: "the doctrines of God", "man", "salvation", "the church", "the Christian life", and "Last
day events" ("Seventh–Day Adventist Church.").
Salvation is believed to be earned by good works by the Adventists. This is achieved by following
all of the commandments. They also believe that when you are saved that you should believe in
Jesus as well as have faith in Him (Robinson, B.A.). Christianity believes that one must rely on
Jesus and develop a relationship with Him. Another false belief of the Seventh Day Adventists is
what happens in the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Seventh Day Adventists believe that those who are not believers will be brought back to be
destroyed along with Satan by God. It is also believed that Hell is not a place of eternal destruction,
but instead it is a place where people are destroyed if they are not believers (Robinson, B.A.). They
also believe that the believers go to heaven. Christians agree that believers go to heaven as well;
however they believe that unbelievers go to hell, a place of eternal destruction.
The Seventh Day Adventists' view of God is the same as other Christians. They believe that He is
omnipotent, omniscient, and omnipresent. They also know that God loves us, even so that He sent
His son, Jesus, to Earth, so that He would die for us and rise again three days later. They also
recognize that He became fully human, was even tempted, and was also born to a virgin ("Seventh–
Day Adventist Church.").
However, Adventists also believe in the writings of Ellen White. They believe that she had a gift of
prophecy. She wrote these writings in the 1980's (Robinson, B.A.). Most Christians don't believe in
any other writings except the Bible. There are many different versions and translations that many
denominations have preferences over.
The Seventh Day Adventists and Christians are alike with their views of God. However, Adventists

The Seventh-Day Adventists Essay
Seventh–day Adventists The Seventh–day Adventists are one of the many different branches of
Christianity. The Adventists came about during the 19th century and began with the "Millerite
Movement" ("Seventh–Day Adventists", 2013). The movement was started by an American Baptist
preacher by the name of William Miller, who believed that the Second Coming – the return of Christ
to Earth – would occur between March 21, 1843 and March 21, 1844 ("Seventh–Day Adventism",
2004). This prediction was largely based off Daniel 8:14 in the Bible (See slide 4). Since he and his
followers believed in this imminent advent, or return, they were called "Adventists" ("Seventh–Day
Adventism"). According to an article on Seventh–Day Adventism (2004), when ... Show more

Edison believed that Miller had misidentified where Christ would appear and believed that He was
to enter the Heavenly Sanctuary instead of Earth. Joseph insisted that his followers observe the
Jewish Sabbath– worshipping on Saturday– instead of Sunday worships. This increased the already
Anti–Catholic view of the Adventists, going to far as to blame the Catholic church for changing the
worship day ("Seventh–Day Adventism", 2004). These two groups stayed separate until a women by
the name of Ellen White, a well–known supporter and a believed prophet, combined their ideas and
the trio established the Seventh–Day Adventist denomination, which recieved it's official name in
1860 ("Seventh–Day Adventism"). Later, on May 21, 1863, the headquarters for the Adventist
Church was established in Battle Creek, Michigan. The Church was moved to Washington D.C and
the neighboring community of Takoma Park, Maryland in 1903 and again to Silver Spring,
Maryland in 1989, where it still resides today ("Seventh–Day Adventists", 2013). A new sect of the
Adventist branch, named the Davidian Seventh–day Adventists, was created in 1929 by a man
named Victor Houteff, whose beliefs differed than that of the main Church. The sect further divided
into many sub–groups, and one widely known group became known as the Branch Davidians,
though it holds very little in common with rest of the

What Is The Similarities Between Religion And Religion
Throughout human history, religion has been on the forefront of what defines and brings us closer
together. It helps dictate how we treat ourselves and others as well as what we can do to have an
afterlife. Of the many religions that currently exist, Buddhism and Christianity are some the the
most practiced ones. These two religions have certain convictions, qualities and customs which are
truly alike, but they also have qualities, convictions and conventional practices are very opposing.
This makes the investigation of these two religions an intriguing and pleasurable assignment. The
similarities and differences of the two worship establishments are profound and gives people diverse
ways of thinking. The churches and temples play a significant role in these two religions. These are
the places where people can go to seek guidance, pray or meditate. Visiting the churches and
temples of these religions help individuals to understand in–depth what the religion is about from
the inside and help philosophers to break down the true meaning of religion. While visiting each
church, there were different feelings as soon as I walked through the doors. At the Buddhist temple,
the greeters at the door and made sure I felt welcomed and explained to me what was going to
happen during the service. At the beginning of the service they had a brief discussion lead by the
teacher, followed by a silent group meditation. They then gave me a book with the 37 practices of

Charles Kinny Research Paper
Charles Kinny is a very important preacher in the Seventh–Day Adventist Church. Not only was he
a very Godly and humble preacher, he also was the first ordained Black Preacher. He helped
Seventh–day Adventist reach out and connect with the black community during the 1800s. Resulting
in many African Americans dedicating their life to God. There are many things we can learn from
Charles so let's get started! Charles Kinny was born in the year of 1855 in Richmond, West Virginia.
We don't know his actual birthdate because he was born a slave on a plantation in West Virginia.
There's not much information about his childhood but, at the age of 10 was when the Civil War
started. When he was a heading into his teen years he moved to Reno, Nevada. In Reno he started
attending evangelistic classes held by J.N. Loughborough. On the last Saturday of September in

about racial issues in church that it shouldn't stop us from having a relationship with God who loves

called out the racial issues in the church which encouraged Charles even more. In 1889 Kinny
moved his evangelism again to Louisville, Kentucky because A. Barry had been moved to Canada.
October 5, 1889 was the day Charles became the first ordained black Seventh–Day Adventist
preacher. And on February 16, 1890 Charles helped create the second black Seventh–Day Adventist
church in the world. Shortly after Charles went to go help the first black Seventh–day Adventist

The Cause And Effects Of The Seventh-Day Adventism
Some things that i found out about Adventism, was that they are also called the seventh–day
Adventism. The Adventism moved to upstate New York in the 1840s, they started moving because
of the cause and effect of the millerite movement. All this happened between the revivals of the
religious, also know as the "Second Great Awakening". During the time of religious revivals a
baptist preacher "William Miller" had predicted something that was going to happen. While he was
reading Daniel 8:14, he predicted that Christ would return March 21, 1843 and march 21, 1844.
Miller prediction was known as the Great Disappointment, they Called it that cause his prediction
didn't turn out good, it was a failure and it let a lot of people down also got everyone hopes up.
Which caused a lot of the millerites to become disillusioned, because they really believed what he
had said. But miller wasn't the only one who thought that Christ was returning, Hiram Edson said
that "he seen Christ standing at the altar of heaven", and he agreed with miller about that he predict
but he said that he was right about everything else but the place of the return of Christ. Based off all
the confusing of the returning of Christ caused Joseph Bates and James and Ellen White to become
the founding pioneers of the SDA church. the Seventh–day Adventism is one of the world's larger

Cultic activity has taken place since the practice of religion was established thousands of years ago.
Since then, literally thousands of denominations have been inoculated throughout the world,
especially in the United States. A cult, according to Merriam–Webster's Collegiate Dictionary is a
system of religious beliefs and rituals. By definition, this includes organizations such as Baptists,
Catholics as well as Satanists and Witches. While this maybe true, cults have been popularly
perceived as Separatists who are consumed by the belief of apocalyptic events, and the leader is
someone who believes he or she is chosen by God or some other deity to lead those who are to

Since White was looked upon so highly among the Adventists, she would become and remain the
Adventists trusted spiritual counselor for over seventy years until her death. No other leader of her
stature would not emerge again until the mid 20th century.
In the 1930's Victor Houteff an Adventist follower, began to claim that he was the chosen prophet of
the Seventh–day Adventist church. Houteff believed that the Adventists' doctrines and teachings
were inaccurate and attempted to implement his own teachings known as the "New Light." "New
Light" are scriptures revealed by God to chosen prophets to show what the Bible was trying to teach
what people have blinded to, thus showing ones chosen the way to salvation. Like William Miller
and Ellen White, Houteff's teachings included areas of the apocalypse and the Second Coming of
Christ as well as catastrophes and war. He also believed that the kingdom of ancient Israelite
monarch David was to be reestablished in Palestine where it was his task to assemble a brood of
144,000 Christians as scribed in the Book of Revelation 7:4. Houteff's teachings were not accepted
by many of the Adventists, and he was eventually ex–communicated from the church. After his
dismissal, Houteff and a group of loyal followers who were also former Adventists migrated from
Los Angeles, California to Waco, Texas. It was in Waco where he formed his

The Holy Bible, By William Miller
Many people often ask themselves: Who am I. why do people exist. They wonder is there someone
or something that created everything. Throughout history, cultures and countries have developed
their beliefs on what religion and God is to them. Churches today still share similar traditions and
beliefs as ancient churches, but yet there are so many sects of religion and followings. When you
think Christianity you may miss count all the diverse teachings. With all these different teachings,
they all teach from "The Holy Bible," but the scripture is translated in my different perspectives.
Even though churches all read from the same book, "The Holy Bible", it all comes down to how
each church translates the word. Seventh Day Adventist is a type of Protestant Christian
denomination distinguished by its observance of the seventh day of the week in Christian and
Jewish calendars, which is Saturday. William Miller, S. S. Snow, Joseph Bates, James White, and
Mrs. Ellen G. White founded Seventh Day Adventists. Ellen White has several books over the
Seventh Day Adventist and her writings are still held in power by the Church. One of her writings,
28 Fundamental Beliefs, provides the church with guidance. Some of the 28 fundamental beliefs

Gerald Winslow Thesis Statement
I. Title/Author: Gerald R. Winslow: A Sect for Society
II. Thesis Statement: Adventists can abide in the way of the cross, understand the universal work of
Christ, and take part in the renovation of the world's common ethic to accomplish their roles in
society.
III. Overview: Gerald R. Winslow begins by questioning the social responsibilities Adventists have
in the world and the ways in which the duties should be brought forth. He refers to the Adventists as
"transformative minorities" who are bestowed "special gifts" (serving the God of love and power),
and calls for distribution of the gifts to cultivate an apocalyptic view in the contemporary culture.

The author emphasizes the need to constantly renew the ethical stance in slavery, civil disobedience,
killing, and so on. And society has often failed to address these common ethics due to intolerances
and discriminations. Because of our ever changing world, it has become more difficult to establish
and renew ethics, the author mentions. But he adds that doing so certainly is substantial, and
carefully keeping the ethics Adventists themselves value will support the renovation of the world's
common ethic. And the ultimate logic behind all these takes us back to the second point above, that
God is the one working in our

What Role Did Roden Play In The Theology Of The Davidians
Houteff bought a plot of land and moved outside Waco, Texas, bringing just under a hundred
followers with him and thereby establishing the Davidian sect. They built a variety of buildings and
named the location Mount Carmel after the mount where Elijah overcame the prophets of Baal. On a
side note, this Mount Carmel was different from the one involved in the Branch Davidian inferno.
Houteff did not want to break away from the Seventh–day Adventism and continued to view his
evangelistic message as directed to the Adventist church. Seventh–day Adventism continued to play
a major role in the theology of the Davidians though their relationship was bitter. The Davidian sect

Roden affirmed the leadership of Victor and Ellen White and especially the need for a righteous
remnant. Roden is responsible for the adoption of the name "Branch," claiming it as the new name
of Christ according to Isaiah 11:1. The Davidians, under Roden, became the Branch Davidians.
Roden implemented observance of Old Testament festivals, which wasn't a big leap from strict
Sabbath practice. He was also incredibly passionate about Israel and attempted to establish a group
of Davidians within Israel. If they were able to move the Davidians to Israel, they would be one step
closer to the millennium and their final earthly dwelling place. Under Roden, Branch Davidians
believed that the truth of God would proceed from Jerusalem and since they contained the truth of
God, it was necessary that they move to Israel. Unfortunately, Roden's dream was never completely
actualized and upon his death in 1978, his wife Lois Roden assumed leadership of the Branch
Davidians. Unlike Florence Houteff, Lois Roden received visions prior to the death of her husband
and was even considered a prophetess, whereas Florence was just considered the leader. As the
prophetic voice of the Branch Davidians, she formulated new theology, the most important being
that the Holy Spirit is feminine. According to her, "the notion of Father and Son in the

He has an incredibly close, personal touch, yet, at the same time is naturally more quiet and
withdrawing.
Analysis of Leadership Dynamics Pastor X's leadership theory is clearly a bottom–up approach; he
avoids wrangling the conversation unfairly to his perspective, instead, he identifies himself as a
component of the process, not the process itself. This instills in the members a trust in him that is
remarkably deep. He also tends to seek out members for services that they provide (i.e. medical) in
order that he can relate to them on a personal while simultaneously on a spiritual level.
As I pointed out above, he empowers his members by giving them opportunities and allowing them
to experiment, with the promise that he will be there to provide support if problems explode.
However, this model allows problems to be resolved quickly and quietly and not spiral rapidly out
of control. He averts empowering the members in the way of resources–what I am alluding to is that
he is willing to acquire resources when needed, yet avoids seeking them out himself. He feels that it
is best for individual leaders of departments to determine these decisions.
His relationship with the church is uncommonly positive, in spite of a few differences. For example,
during one nominating committee it was determined by the Filipino delegation, which is the vast
majority of the church, that the number Caucasians and African–Americans who held leadership
positions was rife and

Ellen G White Research Paper
Who exactly are Adventists? Where did they come from? Adventists are, most basically, Christians,
but we worship on the Saturday as the Sabbath, not Sunday. This "bizarre" idea was due to Ellen G.
White and a quite a few others because of what they all taught and wrote about. She is very possibly
the most revered person in the Adventist community to date. She still has a lot of influence in our
daily Adventist lives to this day, actually. Ellen was born November 26, 1827 in Gorham Maine and
lived for 87 years, dying on the 16th of July, 1915 in Elmshaven, California. During her life, she
was part of the some very big things, including the Great Disappointment. However, we'll start back
when she was still younger. She was born into a family who had a total of 8 children (she had a twin
named Elizabeth). She did not stay long in the farm that was near the little village of Gorham. After

During her husband's sickness, she had the chance to write. She wrote The Spirit of Prophecy vol. 1

thereafter wrote the fourth and final volume of The Spirit of Prophecy. She then visited Europe four
years later and went to many places including England, Denmark, Germany and so forth. After she

The Lord 's Second Presence
1874 "The fact of our Lord 's second coming is definitely settled by the Scriptures.. The Scriptures

disappointment to those 'holy people ' who had so confidently looked for Christ ( 'Michael ') then to

The disappointment of 1844 is briefly recorded in the parable, by the statement that 'the Bridegroom
tarried ' – i.e., he seemed to the expectant ones to tarry. And the confusion and darkness experienced
by all, and the many false and visionary views entered into by some who were there disappointed,
are shown in the parable by the statement: 'While the Bridegroom tarried, they all slumbered and
slept. ' Yea, and in their darkness and slumber many of them dreamed strange, unreasonable things.
But the parable shows a second movement, similar, and yet different, among the same virgins. The
same general class is referred to but not necessarily the same individuals. As the first movement was
the result of light upon the prophecy, regarding the time for Messiah 's second advent as the
Bridegroom of the Church, so was the second movement. But there are several differences. In the
first, the lamps of all the virgins burned alike, and the company expecting the Bridegroom was
mixed; whereas in the second movement, while all will be aroused, only those will be led out who
have the spirit of the truth in their hearts, as well as a knowledge of the Bible – a trimmed lamp.
Disappointment was predicted for the first movement, and waiting for the 1335 days was necessary;
but the second was not a disappointment, and a waiting was no longer necessary; for fulfillment

Assignment: Case Study #1
The Case: A 47–year–old female presents to a family practice clinic complaining of fatigue. When
obtaining initial subjective data, the client admits to not eating red meat and shares that she is a
member of the Seventh Day Adventist Church. She comments that her menses have been irregular
with heavy flow over the course of the past six months. On Physical examination, her conjunctiva
and mucous membranes are pale. Diagnostic complete blood count is obtained and her hematocrit is

Yes, her diet could have caused her to be iron deficient, but there are numerous other possible
causative agents. If her diet is to blame, then her diet would need to be adjusted – while respecting
her religious beliefs. One could ask the patient if her diet could be altered to include the foods that
she has omitted, as the Seventh–Day Adventist Church supports doing what's best for one's health,
including eating red meats and such medical interventions as blood transfusions (James, 2005).
Besides the patient's diet, a number of other problems can cause a low H/H resulting in pale
conjunctiva and mucous membranes. She claims to have lost more blood recently due to changes in
her menses, and although this could be the reason she is loosing blood, there are again, numerous
other possibilities. I would have to ask the patient numerous questions from here...

Have you ever been told that you have an ulcer?
Have you ever had a colonoscopy or endoscopy – where they take a camera and look through your

The From A Los Angeles Seventh- Day Adventists
A man by the name, Victor Houteff was "defellowshipped from a Los Angeles Seventh– day

in 1993 experienced a 51 day biblical event like never before seen or experienced since the first
coming of Christ. The Branch Davidians along with the infamous David Koresh came to be because
of Houteff "sharing his "Divergent Views" with other church members" (CRI). It was five years
after he was ostracized from the church that Houteff along with twelve others who believed that the

Upon the death of Roden in 1978, the Branch Davidians were once again led by the wife of the man

In 1981, Vernon Howell came to be known as the infamous David Koresh came to Mt. Carmel after

Seventh-Day Adventists
Introduction
Seventh–day Adventists
The Seventh–day Adventist Church is a Millennialist Protestant Christian denomination that was
founded in the 1860s in the USA.
The name Seventh–day Adventist is based on the Church's observance of the "biblical Sabbath" on
Saturday, the seventh day of the week. "Advent" means coming and refers to their belief that Jesus
Christ will soon return to this earth.
Seventh–day Adventists differ in only four areas of beliefs from the mainstream Trinitarian
Christian denominations. These are the Sabbath day, the doctrine of the heavenly sanctuary, the
status of the writings of Ellen White, and their doctrine of the second coming and millennium.
Adventists live modest lives, with a strict code of ethics. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

The remnant
The remnant is a church that has the duty of keeping faith in Jesus and obedience to God's
commandments alive in this time when many people have abandoned true faith.
This remnant announces the arrival of the judgment hour, proclaims salvation through Christ, and
heralds the approach of the second coming.
The great controversy
The great controversy is the battle between Satan and Christ. Humanity is involved in this battle and
should choose Christ.
The Heavenly Sanctuary
The correct understanding of the ministration in the heavenly sanctuary is the foundation of our
faith.
Ellen G. White, Evangelism
The Old Testament teaches that the Aaronic priests ministered within a sanctuary.
That sanctuary (a tabernacle or a temple) was a man–made version of the sanctuary that God created
in Heaven, which is the Temple of God in Heaven; the place where God lives.
Adventists believe that Christ, as the high priest of the new covenant, ministers in the heavenly
sanctuary.
He said to me, 'It will take 2,300 evenings and mornings; then the sanctuary will be reconsecrated.'
Daniel 8:14
We do have such a high priest, who sat down at the right hand of the throne of the Majesty in
heaven, and who serves in the sanctuary, the true tabernacle set up by the Lord, not by man.
Hebrews 8: 1–2
The heavenly sanctuary has two areas – the holy place and the most holy place. When Christ went

colleges and universities. On that list is the College of Atlantic which caught my attention. Why?
The school offers only one major program in Human Ecology and all students in the college are

The atmosphere of the campus is exceptional because of the surrounding sea Hence, . "The world is

However, Southern Adventist University, a traditional higher education institution established by

Millerite Movement in the Second Great Awakening of...
The Millerite Movement happened in the context of this nation's Second Great Awakening: a
religious revival that carried the country into reform movements. The Second Great Awakening had
its start in Connecticut in the 1790s and grew to its height in the 1830s to 1840s.[1] During this time
in the United States history, churches experienced a more complete freedom from governmental
control which opened the doors of opportunity to a great spiritual awakening in the American
people.[2] This awakening focused on areas of both religious and social issues of that era which
were important to the religious movements and the nation as a whole. The Second Great Awakening

The Millerite Movement is best known for its prediction of Christ's coming to be 1843 and later
revised to October 22, 1844. The very core of this movement was the anticipation for the soon
coming of Christ. They were not the only group to look forward to this event but it became of
paramount interest to the Millerites, as they had a set date for Christ's second return.[8] As the
Second Great Awakening grew more mindful of Christ's second coming, so did the Millerite
Movement. The story of William Miller is one which climaxes in his desire to share about Christ's
immediate return and the Great Disappointment. The result is the Adventist church we have today.
The Seventh–day Adventist Church today still reflects the roots it had in the Second Great
Awakening. The founding principles that the Millerites discovered as they broke away from the
mainstream Christianity of their time, are still a part of what we believe today. The Adventist faith
holds that anyone who comes to Christ is a new creation and can find salvation.[9] There is no
predestination and once saved does not assure that we are always saved. But no matter what, anyone
can come to God for His gift of salvation.[10] Just like the second coming of Christ was an
important part of the Second Great Awakening and a key foundation of the Millerite Movement,
Adventists have in their name the hope of His

Florida Hospital And The United States
Florida Hospital has grown to be one of the largest healthcare providers in the United States.
Impressively, Florida Hospital had a very humble beginning and a modest growth. In 1908, a small
group of Seventh Day Adventists in Orlando developed their vision of bringing health care to the
area. As part of their philanthropy, they were able to raise the funds necessary to purchase Florida
Hospital's first facility near Lake Estelle. It was a two story farmhouse that had a wraparound porch
and had once served those needing treatment for tuberculosis. The facility had the capacity to care
for 20 patients at any given time.
During the 1950s, Florida Hospital transformed its two story farm house to a structure that was able
to care for 160 patients. They were able to make improvements to the facility, such as air
conditioning, that allowed for year round care to patients. With each purchase of new facilities in the
decades to follow, Florida Hospital has grown to over 20 hospitals large, providing services to many
people who live in Central Florida and the surrounding areas. This has allowed the network to
include many leaders in their respective fields to offer care to patients in many different specialized
areas.
The mission of Florida Hospital was developed with inspiration from the study of scripture. Since
the founders of Florida Hospital, the Seventh– day Adventist Church, were faith based, the mission
became to "extend the healing ministry of Christ." This mission drives

Analysis Of The Book ' Christian Travels '
Finally he indicates the condition of man through the journey it takes to get out of the city. In the
story, Christian travels out of the city only to find that the path is almost as treacherous as the city
itself. First he falls into the Bog named the Slough of Despond. The Slough is not only very hard to
see, but the way though the bog is hidden from all travelers. In the Story, Help describes the slough
as being desolate because of the fears, doubts, and discouraging apprehensions that come to a sinner
who is enlightened (Bunyan 23). John Bunyan clearly illustrates a path that is hard to follow
because leaving sin is one of the hardest things to do. Bunyan confirms that he believes that sin is
hard to leave by telling us of his early hardships with temptations. "The temptations of sin became
so overwhelming" that Bunyan felt like selling his soul to the devil and after trying to say no he
gave into Satan (Abrams 2134–2137). Then later in the Journey to the Cross, Bunyan also uses the
character named World to describe the many other hardships that come along the trail. "Thou art like
to meet with in the way which thou goest wearisomeness, painfulness, hunger, perils, nakedness,
sword, lions, dragons, darkness and in a word, death and what not?" (Bunyan 25). Clearly Bunyan
wants to show that the condition of man is terrible because of the awful problem of sin that pulls
every person away from God.

Ellen G. White's Seventh Day Adventist Beliefs
The Adventists believe in a fourth–coming Second Advent of Christ. One of those people who still
believed in the coming of the rapture, was Ellen G. White. Her and many others officially founded
the Seventh–Day Adventist Church in 1863. She is known to establish many of the church's beliefs.
Unlike most other Christians denominations, the Adventist attend church on Saturdays. From night
fall on Friday until night fall on Saturday, no work should be done. They take pride on this day for
rest and call it Sabbath. Another big difference is that they interpret the Bible differently and do not
believe in your body going straight to heaven. Rather when a person dies, they remain insensible
until resurrected. The measure of strictness varies

Mary Esther Bell Craig Of Suitland
Mary Esther Bell Craig, of Suitland, Maryland passed this life on Tuesday, November 2, 2016. She
was the youngest child born of Abb and Hazel Loving Bell, January 4, 1926 in Dallas, Texas. She
possessed a vibrant and vivacious personality and spoke her mind freely from childhood; friendly,
sharp–witted and outgoing, she made friends easily, however she never hesitated to express to loved
ones exactly what or how she thought they should handle a situation. This of course as everyone

Research Paper On Health Evangelism
Health evangelism is the good news that Jesus makes people healthier. Health evangelism is Christ
centered evangelism integrated with a health program. The health component of health evangelism
contains information regarding the risks associated with unhealthy living and provides behavior
change strategies designed to correct bad habits and addictions. The evangelistic component of
health evangelism introduces people to Jesus. Jesus provides the power to change. Lasting behavior
change is impossible for many people who rely on their own efforts, but a relationship with Jesus
turns a life around. This is true in the physical realm as well as in the spiritual realm. Many people
who don't know Jesus to begin with, will identify a health evangelism program as the start of their
Christian experience. Many who already have a religious background will find a deeper and
intensely practical relationship with Jesus as they learn to trust Him for daily ... Show more content

Perhaps some of them have not experienced Jesus in their own lives and have not learned how
essential Jesus is to successful healthful living. Evangelists have not helped the situation much
either. The constant question posed to those conducting health programs is, "Where are the
baptisms?" This question looks at the end of the process and doesn't recognize the multiple steps
that precede baptism. Health evangelism helps prepare people for baptism by leading them through
the several steps that precede baptism. Perhaps the biggest reason we are not doing more health
evangelism is because we haven't been doing it up to this point and we really do not know how to do
it. On the scientific side, health evangelism of the type advocated here has not been studied. We
would do more health evangelism if we had proof that health evangelism is more effective in
changing behaviors than traditional behavior change

The first question is, "What do you feel shapes your view on pro–choice / pro–life?" His response

Essay on The Branch Davidians
On February 28, 1993, the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms (ATF) raided the Branch

It was also at this time that Howell began calling himself David Koresh. From the beginning the
group was an apocalyptic faith. This meant that they believed themselves to be living in a time when
Christian prophesies of final divine judgment was coming. They believed that history would begin
to spiral. History would repeat itself but it would also advance at the same time until the end. Koresh
used the Book of Revelation as his evidence of the spiral.
In 1992 a Texas newspaper began to run investigative reports that Koresh was abusing children at
the compound. Koresh openly advocated polygamy for himself and select members of the group.
Koresh claimed to be married to several of the female group members. People outside of the group
began claiming that they were a cult because of the authoritarian structure with Koresh being the
all–powerful leader. It is said by some survivors that Koresh had at least a hundred and forty wives.
He was also entitled to take any female at anytime. Allegations that he fathered at least a dozen
children by his numerous wives began to arise in newspaper reports. Some of the wives were as
young as twelve or thirteen years old.

Descriptive Essay On Ellen White
Many people have shared their stereotypes of Ellen White. Looking at her life on surface level she is
viewed as being quiet strict and conservative. The book Walking with Ellen White by George R.
Knight gives detailed insight into the everyday troubles as well as the humorous and adventures side
of Ellen White. Ellen White is such an influential person in the Adventist church, but she is often
times taken out of context and misunderstood. This book takes the reader on Ellen White's journey.
Telling her story and revealing who she is on a personal level. I found the book Walking with Ellen
White to truly be a game changer. My eyes were opened to just how much Ellen White is like me.
She is an adventure seeker, humorous, friend, and also timid. I have always viewed Ellen White as
being in a way a step above everyone else. I think I viewed her this way because of the visions she
was given and all the books she has written. This book showed me that she has had her fair share of
heart break as well. I really like that this book shows every side of her life. So often her rules and
regulations are shared, but rarely is her full character and personality shared. I enjoyed that the book
shared all of her heart break with us as well. Ellen White had endured problems in her marriage,
deaths of multiple children, and financial difficulties. Everyone can relate with her on one of these
topics. Seeing how she overcame them all and stayed strong in her faith is inspiring and motivating.
After learning more about Ellen White's life one of the many lessons I have learned that I can apply
to my life is that it is okay to be timid. I have struggled with being timid my whole life. I have never
liked this aspect of myself and often times found myself getting jealous of extroverted people. Ellen
White says it best when she says she was "naturally so timid and retiring that it was painful for me
to meet strangers" (45). I have often times wondered how god could use me to spread His word
when I was to scared to talk to people. Ellen White wondered the same thing when she was given a
vision and was called to share it with others. By surrendering her life to God she was given the
strength and courage to share with others what God

The Florida Conference Of Seventh Day Adventists Essay
A Storybranding Analysis of the Florida Conference of Seventh–Day Adventists
"The early Adventist Church emerged from a climate of religious revival in the Northeastern United
States", (Lechleitner, 2013). Its founder was the late William Miller, (Slick, n.d.). The Church was
founded based on the idea of the Second Coming of Jesus, (Church, 2013). The Seventh–Day
Adventism is a Christian faith with multiple fundamental beliefs such as the Sabbath. The Sabbath is
the day in which God decided to rest after creating the Earth. For the Seventh–Day Adventists, the
Sabbath is Saturday, as God rested on the Seventh–Day of the week. Ellen G. White, a woman
considered one of the founding members of the Church and a prophetess, developed another
fundamental belief of how "husbands should treat their wives as equal, the way they were created to
be", (Banks, 1992). As we can see, women play an important role in this doctrine.
As the Seventh–Day Adventist Church grew, they developed Conferences around the World. For the
purpose of this study, we will look into the Florida Conference. "Florida Conference of Seventh–day

The Importance Of Volunteering For Your Volunteer Service
There are a number of ways in which I plan to make a difference to the world, one way of offering
my volunteer services to a number of organizations that I am assisting with. As a member the
AAUW of Redlands I plan to make a difference by committing to help support local women in the
community that hope to empower themselves in many aspects of their lives. Volunteering for me
means that I am able to provide support to anyone that needs it thus, this not only enable's me to
meet new people, but make friends and form a lasting relationship with others that have the same
vision and drive as me. I believe that volunteering is just one form of how you can help make a
difference to someone, but there are simpler ways to make a difference too, such as helping your
disabled neighbor with running errands and picking up a few items from the local grocery store for
them. This is what I do for my neighbor and she appreciates the help and I feel a sense of
satisfaction that I have helped make life little easier for my neighbor. We support each other when
we can and it is quite a blessing to be able to help and support each other when in need. I also help
at my son's soccer team as a parent volunteer in the CAPS Program run by the Loma Linda
University Church. It is a program that aims to promote healthy living habits for children and the
Goal4Health is a soccer program which enables all ages of children to take part in a sporting
physical activity to promote a healthy lifestyle.

intimidated by the pace and content of nursing school. Despite being intimidated, she is confident to

new friends are added her inner circle because of this. Another characteristic noted is that she is loud

The Religion Of The 20Th Century

  • 1. The Religion Of The 20th Century The religion was first founded in New York in 1844 by William Miller. Miller started out being a deist, but he converted and became a baptist preacher. Finally creating his own religion, and his followers were known as Millerites. Later in 1854, J.N. Andrews, Miller, Joseph Bates, and Ellen G. and James Springer White created the official Seventh Day Adventist Church. The official name of Seventh Day Adventist was not officially put into place until 1863 at the first conference and formation of the Seventh Day Adventist(SDA) Church on May 21. By the early 1870's SDA began to send missionaries to Europe and Australia. In 1849, the first SDA newspaper was printed in Middletown, Connecticut. The following year two more SDA related newspapers ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The people that are considered unworthy get destroyed, and the people that pass help Jesus create a heaven on earth and everyone lives there in peace forever. The people that were saved are considered God–like at that point. The SDAs believe that the first covenant made between the people and God was essentially a covenant of death. They believe we owe God our lives because he did for us. One obtains happiness by being chosen to live on the newly created planet during the second resurrection. The only way to get chosen and live a "perfect" life is to follow every commandment word for word. The SDAs believe that the only day that is to be rested upon is Saturday. This is because in the creation story God rested on the seventh day. They believe just as Catholics that Abortions is wrong. It is impossible for us to be God. This is because we are created in his image and likeness, but we are not as powerful as God. He was the first, therefore, he knows better than us. The United States and Europe have the biggest population of Seventh–Day Adventists in the world. The next largest population is in Asia and South America. By learning about this religion, it helps one to be able to better defend their faith, and understand where they have gone wrong in their life. It also helps one be able to better understand where someone of that faith is coming ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

A Plant–Based Diet as a Prescriptive Measure: Should Health Care Providers Recommend A Vegan Diet to High–Risk Patients For the Prevention or Treatment of Non–Communicable or Chronic Diseases? David Arthur, MS, PA–S The term non–communicable disease refers to set of chronic, slowly progressing, long–duration illnesses that are not infectious and are responsible for more deaths globally than any other cause.1 In 2011, in most high and middle–income countries, non–communicable diseases were responsible for more deaths than all other causes combined.1 These same chronic diseases are also referred to as lifestyle diseases by some practitioners, as they are recognized as having lifestyle choice as primary risk–factors, and possibly, treatment modalities centered around lifestyle modification.2 The four primary non–communicable diseases, as identified by the World Health Organization, are cardiovascular disease, malignant neoplasm, respiratory disease, and diabetes mellitus.3 The power of lifestyle choices to effectively address some of the most vexing chronic diseases of our time is well established.4 Adherence to four healthy lifestyle tenets–not smoking, not being obese, getting at least thirty minutes of moderate activity per day, and eating a diet consisting primarily of vegetables, fruit, and whole grains, may have the net effect of addressing the primary sources of disease and death in western society.4 Strictly adhering to each of these healthy lifestyle choices ... • 13. Difference Between Buddhism And Vegetarianism The views present in both the Buddhist and Christian views are not consistent with all of its adherents. In Buddhism, there is a slight discrepancy in whether consuming meat opposed what dictated in the First Precept. According to Buddhist scriptures, Buddha was not a vegetarian, nor did he instruct his followers to adhere to that diet. The main rule, however, was to eat whatever they were offered. While the Monastic rules, which relate to monks, of the Theravada tradition outlined that if meat was placed in their begging bowls, they were obliged to eat it; therefore, the consumption of meat was permitted. Meanwhile, in the Mahayana tradition, Buddhists argue that animals suffer in the production of meat, which contradicts the notion of them not harming or killing living beings. Buddhists from ... Today, Buddhists must weigh up the ideas put forth and consider them, based on their own beliefs and understanding; therefore, some Buddhists may believe it necessary to observe vegetarianism, while some may not (13). Diversity in views between Christian denominations exists between Catholic and Seventh–Day Adventist beliefs. The Seventh–Day Adventists are a sect of the Protestant Church. Even though, vegetarianism is not a requirement, but is heavily encouraged. One of the many factors that contribute to the belief that vegetarianism is necessary is the views regarding creation. When God created Earth and humanity, he ensured that humans would be adequately supplied so that they could be comfortable and healthy. In addition to having a duty to protect the environment and animals, humans are also obligated to protect another one of God's gifts: themselves. Discrepancy has been in our midst since our origins, at times, even theological misunderstandings have also been part of the development of our doctrines. In spite of disagreements, it has been the church's efforts to avoid an officially adopted creedal statement, preferring as a denomination an open–end theology. This has been treasured by the church because it allows new light to penetrate, but at the same time creates room for different biblical understandings to emerge, which could lead to confusion. Because medical knowledge and technology can only forestall death, difficult moral and ethical questions remain. Many speech–language pathologists (SLPs) working in the health care field will, at some point, be faced with a patient's end of life issues. SLPs provide a great deal of care to patients approaching this stage of their lives, and they are an essential part of the patient's health care team (ASHA, 2015). Both belief systems can be categorized into six main categories: "the doctrines of God", "man", "salvation", "the church", "the Christian life", and "Last day events" ("Seventh–Day Adventist Church."). Salvation is believed to be earned by good works by the Adventists. This is achieved by following all of the commandments. They also believe that when you are saved that you should believe in Jesus as well as have faith in Him (Robinson, B.A.). Christianity believes that one must rely on Jesus and develop a relationship with Him. Another false belief of the Seventh Day Adventists is what happens in the ... It is also believed that Hell is not a place of eternal destruction, but instead it is a place where people are destroyed if they are not believers (Robinson, B.A.). They also believe that the believers go to heaven. Christians agree that believers go to heaven as well; however they believe that unbelievers go to hell, a place of eternal destruction. The Seventh Day Adventists' view of God is the same as other Christians. They believe that He is omnipotent, omniscient, and omnipresent. They also know that God loves us, even so that He sent His son, Jesus, to Earth, so that He would die for us and rise again three days later. They also recognize that He became fully human, was even tempted, and was also born to a virgin ("Seventh– Day Adventist Church."). However, Adventists also believe in the writings of Ellen White. They believe that she had a gift of prophecy. She wrote these writings in the 1980's (Robinson, B.A.). Most Christians don't believe in any other writings except the Bible. • 29. The Seventh-Day Adventists Essay Seventh–day Adventists The Seventh–day Adventists are one of the many different branches of Christianity. The Adventists came about during the 19th century and began with the "Millerite Movement" ("Seventh–Day Adventists", 2013). The movement was started by an American Baptist preacher by the name of William Miller, who believed that the Second Coming – the return of Christ to Earth – would occur between March 21, 1843 and March 21, 1844 ("Seventh–Day Adventism", 2004). This prediction was largely based off Daniel 8:14 in the Bible (See slide 4). Since he and his followers believed in this imminent advent, or return, they were called "Adventists" ("Seventh–Day Adventism"). According to an article on Seventh–Day Adventism (2004), when ... Joseph insisted that his followers observe the Jewish Sabbath– worshipping on Saturday– instead of Sunday worships. This increased the already Anti–Catholic view of the Adventists, going to far as to blame the Catholic church for changing the worship day ("Seventh–Day Adventism", 2004). These two groups stayed separate until a women by the name of Ellen White, a well–known supporter and a believed prophet, combined their ideas and the trio established the Seventh–Day Adventist denomination, which recieved it's official name in 1860 ("Seventh–Day Adventism"). Later, on May 21, 1863, the headquarters for the Adventist Church was established in Battle Creek, Michigan. The Church was moved to Washington D.C and the neighboring community of Takoma Park, Maryland in 1903 and again to Silver Spring, Maryland in 1989, where it still resides today ("Seventh–Day Adventists", 2013). A new sect of the Adventist branch, named the Davidian Seventh–day Adventists, was created in 1929 by a man named Victor Houteff, whose beliefs differed than that of the main Church. The sect further divided into many sub–groups, and one widely known group became known as the Branch Davidians, though it holds very little in common with rest of the ... It helps dictate how we treat ourselves and others as well as what we can do to have an afterlife. Of the many religions that currently exist, Buddhism and Christianity are some the the most practiced ones. These two religions have certain convictions, qualities and customs which are truly alike, but they also have qualities, convictions and conventional practices are very opposing. This makes the investigation of these two religions an intriguing and pleasurable assignment. The similarities and differences of the two worship establishments are profound and gives people diverse ways of thinking. The churches and temples play a significant role in these two religions. These are the places where people can go to seek guidance, pray or meditate. Visiting the churches and temples of these religions help individuals to understand in–depth what the religion is about from the inside and help philosophers to break down the true meaning of religion. While visiting each church, there were different feelings as soon as I walked through the doors. At the Buddhist temple, the greeters at the door and made sure I felt welcomed and explained to me what was going to happen during the service. At the beginning of the service they had a brief discussion lead by the teacher, followed by a silent group meditation. They then gave me a book with the 37 practices of the Bodhisattvas and ... The Adventism moved to upstate New York in the 1840s, they started moving because of the cause and effect of the millerite movement. All this happened between the revivals of the religious, also know as the "Second Great Awakening". During the time of religious revivals a baptist preacher "William Miller" had predicted something that was going to happen. While he was reading Daniel 8:14, he predicted that Christ would return March 21, 1843 and march 21, 1844. Miller prediction was known as the Great Disappointment, they Called it that cause his prediction didn't turn out good, it was a failure and it let a lot of people down also got everyone hopes up. Which caused a lot of the millerites to become disillusioned, because they really believed what he had said. But miller wasn't the only one who thought that Christ was returning, Hiram Edson said that "he seen Christ standing at the altar of heaven", and he agreed with miller about that he predict but he said that he was right about everything else but the place of the return of Christ. Since then, literally thousands of denominations have been inoculated throughout the world, especially in the United States. A cult, according to Merriam–Webster's Collegiate Dictionary is a system of religious beliefs and rituals. By definition, this includes organizations such as Baptists, Catholics as well as Satanists and Witches. While this maybe true, cults have been popularly perceived as Separatists who are consumed by the belief of apocalyptic events, and the leader is someone who believes he or she is chosen by God or some other deity to lead those who are to follow him or her. Houteff believed that the Adventists' doctrines and teachings were inaccurate and attempted to implement his own teachings known as the "New Light." "New Light" are scriptures revealed by God to chosen prophets to show what the Bible was trying to teach what people have blinded to, thus showing ones chosen the way to salvation. Like William Miller and Ellen White, Houteff's teachings included areas of the apocalypse and the Second Coming of Christ as well as catastrophes and war. He also believed that the kingdom of ancient Israelite monarch David was to be reestablished in Palestine where it was his task to assemble a brood of 144,000 Christians as scribed in the Book of Revelation 7:4. Houteff's teachings were not accepted by many of the Adventists, and he was eventually ex–communicated from the church. Throughout history, cultures and countries have developed their beliefs on what religion and God is to them. Churches today still share similar traditions and beliefs as ancient churches, but yet there are so many sects of religion and followings. When you think Christianity you may miss count all the diverse teachings. With all these different teachings, they all teach from "The Holy Bible," but the scripture is translated in my different perspectives. Thesis Statement: Adventists can abide in the way of the cross, understand the universal work of Christ, and take part in the renovation of the world's common ethic to accomplish their roles in society. III. Overview: Gerald R. Winslow begins by questioning the social responsibilities Adventists have in the world and the ways in which the duties should be brought forth. He refers to the Adventists as "transformative minorities" who are bestowed "special gifts" (serving the God of love and power), and calls for distribution of the gifts to cultivate an apocalyptic view in the contemporary culture. And society has often failed to address these common ethics due to intolerances and discriminations. But he adds that doing so certainly is substantial, and carefully keeping the ethics Adventists themselves value will support the renovation of the world's common ethic. What Role Did Roden Play In The Theology Of The Davidians Houteff bought a plot of land and moved outside Waco, Texas, bringing just under a hundred followers with him and thereby establishing the Davidian sect. They built a variety of buildings and named the location Mount Carmel after the mount where Elijah overcame the prophets of Baal. On a side note, this Mount Carmel was different from the one involved in the Branch Davidian inferno. Houteff did not want to break away from the Seventh–day Adventism and continued to view his evangelistic message as directed to the Adventist church. Roden affirmed the leadership of Victor and Ellen White and especially the need for a righteous remnant. Roden is responsible for the adoption of the name "Branch," claiming it as the new name of Christ according to Isaiah 11:1. The Davidians, under Roden, became the Branch Davidians. Roden implemented observance of Old Testament festivals, which wasn't a big leap from strict Sabbath practice. He was also incredibly passionate about Israel and attempted to establish a group of Davidians within Israel. If they were able to move the Davidians to Israel, they would be one step closer to the millennium and their final earthly dwelling place. Under Roden, Branch Davidians believed that the truth of God would proceed from Jerusalem and since they contained the truth of God, it was necessary that they move to Israel. Unfortunately, Roden's dream was never completely actualized and upon his death in 1978, his wife Lois Roden assumed leadership of the Branch Davidians. Unlike Florence Houteff, Lois Roden received visions prior to the death of her husband and was even considered a prophetess, whereas Florence was just considered the leader. As the prophetic voice of the Branch Davidians, she formulated new theology, the most important being that the Holy Spirit is feminine. According to her, "the notion of Father and Son in the ... He has an incredibly close, personal touch, yet, at the same time is naturally more quiet and withdrawing. Analysis of Leadership Dynamics Pastor X's leadership theory is clearly a bottom–up approach; he avoids wrangling the conversation unfairly to his perspective, instead, he identifies himself as a component of the process, not the process itself. This instills in the members a trust in him that is remarkably deep. He also tends to seek out members for services that they provide (i.e. medical) in order that he can relate to them on a personal while simultaneously on a spiritual level. As I pointed out above, he empowers his members by giving them opportunities and allowing them to experiment, with the promise that he will be there to provide support if problems explode. However, this model allows problems to be resolved quickly and quietly and not spiral rapidly out of control. He averts empowering the members in the way of resources–what I am alluding to is that he is willing to acquire resources when needed, yet avoids seeking them out himself. He feels that it is best for individual leaders of departments to determine these decisions. His relationship with the church is uncommonly positive, in spite of a few differences. For example, during one nominating committee it was determined by the Filipino delegation, which is the vast majority of the church, that the number Caucasians and African–Americans who held leadership positions was rife and ... This "bizarre" idea was due to Ellen G. White and a quite a few others because of what they all taught and wrote about. She is very possibly the most revered person in the Adventist community to date. She still has a lot of influence in our daily Adventist lives to this day, actually. The name Seventh–day Adventist is based on the Church's observance of the "biblical Sabbath" on Saturday, the seventh day of the week. "Advent" means coming and refers to their belief that Jesus Christ will soon return to this earth. Seventh–day Adventists differ in only four areas of beliefs from the mainstream Trinitarian Christian denominations. These are the Sabbath day, the doctrine of the heavenly sanctuary, the status of the writings of Ellen White, and their doctrine of the second coming and millennium. Adventists live modest lives, with a strict code of ethics. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The remnant The remnant is a church that has the duty of keeping faith in Jesus and obedience to God's commandments alive in this time when many people have abandoned true faith. This remnant announces the arrival of the judgment hour, proclaims salvation through Christ, and heralds the approach of the second coming. The great controversy The great controversy is the battle between Satan and Christ. Humanity is involved in this battle and should choose Christ. The Heavenly Sanctuary The correct understanding of the ministration in the heavenly sanctuary is the foundation of our faith. Ellen G. White, Evangelism The Old Testament teaches that the Aaronic priests ministered within a sanctuary. That sanctuary (a tabernacle or a temple) was a man–made version of the sanctuary that God created in Heaven, which is the Temple of God in Heaven; the place where God lives. Adventists believe that Christ, as the high priest of the new covenant, ministers in the heavenly sanctuary. He said to me, 'It will take 2,300 evenings and mornings; then the sanctuary will be reconsecrated.' Daniel 8:14 We do have such a high priest, who sat down at the right hand of the throne of the Majesty in heaven, and who serves in the sanctuary, the true tabernacle set up by the Lord, not by man. Hence, this type of education when studied assisted in the redemptive process as well as well as "developing the whole person through harmonious development of the physical, mental, and spiritual and social dimensions the individual becomes better equipped to bring wholeness to a broken world" (White 1872). • 103. Millerite Movement in the Second Great Awakening of... The Millerite Movement happened in the context of this nation's Second Great Awakening: a religious revival that carried the country into reform movements. The Second Great Awakening had its start in Connecticut in the 1790s and grew to its height in the 1830s to 1840s.[1] During this time in the United States history, churches experienced a more complete freedom from governmental control which opened the doors of opportunity to a great spiritual awakening in the American people.[2] This awakening focused on areas of both religious and social issues of that era which were important to the religious movements and the nation as a whole. The Second Great Awakening was driven by these issues which included an increase in the evils ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The Millerite Movement is best known for its prediction of Christ's coming to be 1843 and later revised to October 22, 1844. The very core of this movement was the anticipation for the soon coming of Christ. They were not the only group to look forward to this event but it became of paramount interest to the Millerites, as they had a set date for Christ's second return.[8] As the Second Great Awakening grew more mindful of Christ's second coming, so did the Millerite Movement. The story of William Miller is one which climaxes in his desire to share about Christ's immediate return and the Great Disappointment. The result is the Adventist church we have today. The Seventh–day Adventist Church today still reflects the roots it had in the Second Great Awakening. The founding principles that the Millerites discovered as they broke away from the mainstream Christianity of their time, are still a part of what we believe today. The Adventist faith holds that anyone who comes to Christ is a new creation and can find salvation.[9] There is no predestination and once saved does not assure that we are always saved. But no matter what, anyone can come to God for His gift of salvation.[10] Just like the second coming of Christ was an important part of the Second Great Awakening and a key foundation of the Millerite Movement, Adventists have in their name the hope of His ... • 107. Florida Hospital And The United States Florida Hospital has grown to be one of the largest healthcare providers in the United States. Impressively, Florida Hospital had a very humble beginning and a modest growth. In 1908, a small group of Seventh Day Adventists in Orlando developed their vision of bringing health care to the area. As part of their philanthropy, they were able to raise the funds necessary to purchase Florida Hospital's first facility near Lake Estelle. It was a two story farmhouse that had a wraparound porch and had once served those needing treatment for tuberculosis. The facility had the capacity to care for 20 patients at any given time. During the 1950s, Florida Hospital transformed its two story farm house to a structure that was able to care for 160 patients. They were able to make improvements to the facility, such as air conditioning, that allowed for year round care to patients. With each purchase of new facilities in the decades to follow, Florida Hospital has grown to over 20 hospitals large, providing services to many people who live in Central Florida and the surrounding areas. This has allowed the network to include many leaders in their respective fields to offer care to patients in many different specialized areas. The mission of Florida Hospital was developed with inspiration from the study of scripture. Since the founders of Florida Hospital, the Seventh– day Adventist Church, were faith based, the mission became to "extend the healing ministry of Christ." This mission drives ... • 111. Analysis Of The Book ' Christian Travels ' Finally he indicates the condition of man through the journey it takes to get out of the city. In the story, Christian travels out of the city only to find that the path is almost as treacherous as the city itself. First he falls into the Bog named the Slough of Despond. The Slough is not only very hard to see, but the way though the bog is hidden from all travelers. In the Story, Help describes the slough as being desolate because of the fears, doubts, and discouraging apprehensions that come to a sinner who is enlightened (Bunyan 23). John Bunyan clearly illustrates a path that is hard to follow because leaving sin is one of the hardest things to do. Bunyan confirms that he believes that sin is hard to leave by telling us of his early hardships with temptations. "The temptations of sin became so overwhelming" that Bunyan felt like selling his soul to the devil and after trying to say no he gave into Satan (Abrams 2134–2137). Then later in the Journey to the Cross, Bunyan also uses the character named World to describe the many other hardships that come along the trail. "Thou art like to meet with in the way which thou goest wearisomeness, painfulness, hunger, perils, nakedness, sword, lions, dragons, darkness and in a word, death and what not?" (Bunyan 25). Clearly Bunyan wants to show that the condition of man is terrible because of the awful problem of sin that pulls every person away from God. One of those people who still believed in the coming of the rapture, was Ellen G. White. Her and many others officially founded the Seventh–Day Adventist Church in 1863. She is known to establish many of the church's beliefs. Unlike most other Christians denominations, the Adventist attend church on Saturdays. From night fall on Friday until night fall on Saturday, no work should be done. They take pride on this day for rest and call it Sabbath. Another big difference is that they interpret the Bible differently and do not believe in your body going straight to heaven. Rather when a person dies, they remain insensible until resurrected. She was the youngest child born of Abb and Hazel Loving Bell, January 4, 1926 in Dallas, Texas. She possessed a vibrant and vivacious personality and spoke her mind freely from childhood; friendly, sharp–witted and outgoing, she made friends easily, however she never hesitated to express to loved ones exactly what or how she thought they should handle a situation. This of course as everyone knew was regardless of her opinion being was solicited or not. This no doubt was the result of growing up as the baby of the family. Mary grew quite accustomed to getting her own way with her older siblings, Marvin and Corinne and growing up, surrounded by a bounty of loving family members; aunts, uncles and cousins. As a child Mary's mother, Hazel was a chartered member of "Beulah Seventh Day Adventist Church" (currently City Temple SDA Church). This is where Mary gained she introduction and devotion for Christ and the Adventist Faith. Attended Sabbath School, prayer meetings, Friday evening vespers and church school along with her older brother, Marvin was a foundation of life; Church was family and family was church. With her mother an active matron within the church, singing in the choir and serving in the Dorcas Society, tagging along to these activities quickly ignited in her a desire to sing and serve. • 123. Research Paper On Health Evangelism Health evangelism is the good news that Jesus makes people healthier. Health evangelism is Christ centered evangelism integrated with a health program. The health component of health evangelism contains information regarding the risks associated with unhealthy living and provides behavior change strategies designed to correct bad habits and addictions. The evangelistic component of health evangelism introduces people to Jesus. Jesus provides the power to change. Lasting behavior change is impossible for many people who rely on their own efforts, but a relationship with Jesus turns a life around. This is true in the physical realm as well as in the spiritual realm. Many people who don't know Jesus to begin with, will identify a health evangelism program as the start of their Christian experience. Many who already have a religious background will find a deeper and intensely practical relationship with Jesus as they learn to trust Him for daily ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The constant question posed to those conducting health programs is, "Where are the baptisms?" This question looks at the end of the process and doesn't recognize the multiple steps that precede baptism. Health evangelism helps prepare people for baptism by leading them through the several steps that precede baptism. Perhaps the biggest reason we are not doing more health evangelism is because we haven't been doing it up to this point and we really do not know how to do it. On the scientific side, health evangelism of the type advocated here has not been studied. Since we live in a college town, we decided the appropriate demographic should be a college student between the age of 18 and 21. I got to interview a close friend of mine, Danny. Danny is a sophomore at Oregon State University and he describes himself as a Seventh Day Adventist, which is a smaller branch of Christianity and as a Democrat. I got to ask him many questions that one would not usually get asked, which made the interview fairly difficult, but I got to meet an entirely new friend. The first question is, "What do you feel shapes your view on pro–choice / pro–life?" His response was pro–life because of his religion. Danny believes that he is pro–life because his parents raised him to accept every blessing as a gift from God. Along with that he reckons that a parent that aborts their child should receive a considerable punishment. The raid resulted in the deaths of four agents and five Davidians. The subsequent 51–day siege ended on April 19 when the compound was completely consumed by fire killing seventy–five men, women, and children, including the leader David Koresh. In 1929, Victor Houteff, a Bulgarian immigrant, claimed that he had a new message for the Seventh Day Adventist church. He submitted it to the church in the form of a book called "The Shepard's Rod". It was also at this time that Howell began calling himself David Koresh. From the beginning the group was an apocalyptic faith. This meant that they believed themselves to be living in a time when Christian prophesies of final divine judgment was coming. They believed that history would begin to spiral. History would repeat itself but it would also advance at the same time until the end. Koresh used the Book of Revelation as his evidence of the spiral. In 1992 a Texas newspaper began to run investigative reports that Koresh was abusing children at the compound. Koresh openly advocated polygamy for himself and select members of the group. Koresh claimed to be married to several of the female group members. People outside of the group began claiming that they were a cult because of the authoritarian structure with Koresh being the all–powerful leader. It is said by some survivors that Koresh had at least a hundred and forty wives. He was also entitled to take any female at anytime. Allegations that he fathered at least a dozen children by his numerous wives began to arise in newspaper reports. Some of the wives were as young as twelve or thirteen years old. • 143. Descriptive Essay On Ellen White Many people have shared their stereotypes of Ellen White. Looking at her life on surface level she is viewed as being quiet strict and conservative. The book Walking with Ellen White by George R. Knight gives detailed insight into the everyday troubles as well as the humorous and adventures side of Ellen White. Ellen White is such an influential person in the Adventist church, but she is often times taken out of context and misunderstood. This book takes the reader on Ellen White's journey. Telling her story and revealing who she is on a personal level. I found the book Walking with Ellen White to truly be a game changer. My eyes were opened to just how much Ellen White is like me. She is an adventure seeker, humorous, friend, and also timid. I have always viewed Ellen White as being in a way a step above everyone else. I think I viewed her this way because of the visions she was given and all the books she has written. This book showed me that she has had her fair share of heart break as well. I really like that this book shows every side of her life. So often her rules and regulations are shared, but rarely is her full character and personality shared. I enjoyed that the book shared all of her heart break with us as well. Ellen White had endured problems in her marriage, deaths of multiple children, and financial difficulties. Everyone can relate with her on one of these topics. Seeing how she overcame them all and stayed strong in her faith is inspiring and motivating. After learning more about Ellen White's life one of the many lessons I have learned that I can apply to my life is that it is okay to be timid. I have struggled with being timid my whole life. I have never liked this aspect of myself and often times found myself getting jealous of extroverted people. Ellen White says it best when she says she was "naturally so timid and retiring that it was painful for me to meet strangers" (45). I have often times wondered how god could use me to spread His word when I was to scared to talk to people. Ellen White wondered the same thing when she was given a vision and was called to share it with others. By surrendering her life to God she was given the strength and courage to share with others what God ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 147. The Florida Conference Of Seventh Day Adventists Essay A Storybranding Analysis of the Florida Conference of Seventh–Day Adventists "The early Adventist Church emerged from a climate of religious revival in the Northeastern United States", (Lechleitner, 2013). Its founder was the late William Miller, (Slick, n.d.). The Church was founded based on the idea of the Second Coming of Jesus, (Church, 2013). The Seventh–Day Adventism is a Christian faith with multiple fundamental beliefs such as the Sabbath. The Sabbath is the day in which God decided to rest after creating the Earth. For the Seventh–Day Adventists, the Sabbath is Saturday, as God rested on the Seventh–Day of the week. Ellen G. White, a woman considered one of the founding members of the Church and a prophetess, developed another fundamental belief of how "husbands should treat their wives as equal, the way they were created to be", (Banks, 1992). As we can see, women play an important role in this doctrine. As the Seventh–Day Adventist Church grew, they developed Conferences around the World. For the purpose of this study, we will look into the Florida Conference. "Florida Conference of Seventh–day Adventists is an unincorporated, nonprofit organisation which serves as the administrative body for its sisterhood of churches with an emphasis on evangelism, nurturing constituents, and operating a system of schools", (Adventist, n.d.). The Importance Of Volunteering For Your Volunteer Service There are a number of ways in which I plan to make a difference to the world, one way of offering my volunteer services to a number of organizations that I am assisting with. As a member the AAUW of Redlands I plan to make a difference by committing to help support local women in the community that hope to empower themselves in many aspects of their lives. Volunteering for me means that I am able to provide support to anyone that needs it thus, this not only enable's me to meet new people, but make friends and form a lasting relationship with others that have the same vision and drive as me. I believe that volunteering is just one form of how you can help make a difference to someone, but there are simpler ways to make a difference too, such as helping your disabled neighbor with running errands and picking up a few items from the local grocery store for them. This is what I do for my neighbor and she appreciates the help and I feel a sense of satisfaction that I have helped make life little easier for my neighbor. We support each other when we can and it is quite a blessing to be able to help and support each other when in need. I also help at my son's soccer team as a parent volunteer in the CAPS Program run by the Loma Linda University Church. It is a program that aims to promote healthy living habits for children and the Goal4Health is a soccer program which enables all ages of children to take part in a sporting physical activity to promote a healthy lifestyle. ...
