A Forest of Arborglyphs
Could you imagine going a day without your phone? How about a week? Imagine months on end
with no communication with the outside world. This was a commonality for Basque sheepherders in
Idaho throughout the twentieth century.
Often situated in remote areas, these herders refused to let loneliness get the best of them. Their
thirst for interaction can be seen in unique tree carvings found throughout Idaho, known as
arborglyphs. The names, drawings, thoughts, and simple "hellos" of these migrating sheepherders
can be found on aspens in many regions.
Many people venture through the Gem State's wilderness in search of the arborglyphs left behind by

At one point in time, these regions were much more remote and harder to reach. In fact, the Basque
sheepherders were integral in establishing trail systems in central Idaho's backcountry. If you look at
many of the names of backcountry trails in the central region, they are often just called "sheep trail,"

My Regular Daily Eating Habits
Quite often, I get asked what I eat in order to stay so lean. I usually give a general overview of my

OK that may be an exaggeration, but I wouldn't be surprised if it were true! Now I do not restrict or
ban any of these from my diet, but I do limit the frequency and the amount that I consume.
There are a few items that I have banned from my diet. The most noticeable improvements in my
diet came when I cut out sodas and sports drinks. There is so much sugar contained in the average
sized soda or sports drink, cutting those out permanently alone can make a huge difference in your
weight loss journey. I have cut out any fried, breaded meats. A good example of this would be KFC
chicken or fish from Long John Silvers. There are so many added calories and fat in the breading
and it contains very little nutritional value.
However, the major key factor in my diet is limiting items (instead of permanently banning them)
that will lead to weight gain. Probably the most limited item I consume is fried foods. One of my
favorite meals that I eat on a very limited basis is salt and pepper fried catfish (my southern roots
coming into play again). Normally when I get catfish, I have it baked or grill. Now I will admit, for
my birthday recently, I had a few pieces of salt and pepper fried catfish. The last time I indulged
myself with this meal was around five or six years ago, when I visited my first real casino in Biloxi.
I am a huge advocate of keeping sugar intake to a minimum. Now I do not adhere to a sugar free
diet, since sugar is in many foods that I like.

chicken is familiar but I had never tried the Pik–Pow sauce. The cashew nuts seemed like an
interesting choice to eat chicken with, so I told myself "Why not!" It was also spicy which was
great. As for the steamed rice, I need something to accompany the chicken and I've never had tried it
steamed. It really went great with the sauce. Simply, I tried a chicken plate which I eat all the time
but with different spices and sauces. Something I was comfortable with that could bring new
flavors. The vegetables in the soup where to saugy for my taste. In the other hand they had absorbed
the flavors very well. The chicken was tender and well done. The taste was on point. The vegetables
along with the meat were fresh and firm providing a different texture. Combine that with the rice
and it really created an all–around meal. Ambience: I would give it a 7/10. The place was too dark
for my taste. Yet this sort of gloomy atmosphere made the costumers slow down and take their time.
There was never too much noise so you can focus on the person that is speaking to you. The

Injustice In The Kite Runner
Individuals who are able to fight against injustices, that revolve around them, are inspiring and
courageous. However, there are individuals who don't fight the injustices in their culture, since they
are frightened of the consequences. In the books Purple Hibiscus and Kite Runner it show the
hardships youth face when attempting to respond or fight back to injustices. When Facing injustice
it can result in hurting individuals and affecting those around them, since everyone will not have the
same opinion causing arguments to rise. The biggest challenge when responding to an injustice is
accepting the results, reactions, and criticism of other people, especially if they don't have the same
morals or thoughts about the injustice.

Amir, the main character is a pashtun and his whole life he grew up surrounded by people who
believed that their race was more superior than a Hazra, which was race of his servant, Hassan.
Amir soon began to believe it himself and his actions were made based on what he believed. When
Amir and Hassan were talking, Hassan mentioned that he would do anything that Amir tells him to.
Which causes him to say, "'Eat dirt if I told you to,' I knew I was being cruel, like when I'd taunt him
if he didn't know some big word. But there was something fascinating – albeit in a sick way – about
teasing Hassan. Kind of like when we used to play insect torture. Except now, he was the ant and I
was holding the magnifying glass" (Hosseini 29–34). In this scene it already show's how Amir has
developed to be racist because of the influence of people around him. He's referencing Hassan to an
ant and him as a magnifying glass which implies that he thinks he's more superior. The meaning
behind to what Amir said is is that he has control over Hassan and that he has to obey all his orders.
Another example is when Amir and Hassan were on their way home from the kite tournament. They
crossed paths with Assef, the town bully. Amir witnesses Hassan screaming because of what Assef's
actions would be. Amir had thought to himself. "I had one last chance to make a decision. One final
opportunity to decide who I was going to be. I could step into that alley, stand up for Hassan – the
way he'd stood up for me all those times in the past – and accept whatever would happen to me. Or I
