The Influence Of The One Thousand And One Night Stories
The One thousand and One nights stories originate from many different Asian languages and many different cultures, they were collected and then
translated over many centuries in order to create one well–known version of it. The stories evolving from the same culture could be seen to have
similar themes and morals, and when compiled together, they provide the oriental morals and social concepts. India was known for moral stories,
Persia was known for stories about magic and imaginary creatures, and many other stories have Chinese, Egyptian, Greek and other origins (Bridging
Cultures, 2011). After compiling these stories, starting from the 9th century in the Abbasid period, they were translated into Arabic in the 13th century
in Damascus, and named "Alf Layla wa Layla" (Muslim Philosophy, 2008).
Translating the stories in the West French orientalistAntoine Galland initiated ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The influence of the stories and genres on the 18th and 19th century, iconic writers and novelists such as Charles Dickens, Walter Scott, Jane Austen
and many others, can be seen through their imitation and use of themes and characters from the 1001 night stories. The Arabian nights shaped the
writing and story traditions in Europe, and thus shaped the traditions of today's novel and writing culture (Leeds Trinity University, 2015).
The Arabian nights were the first works that promoted genres in Orientalist writing (Al–Olaqi, 2012), and influenced the romantic prose–fiction culture
that was adopted by the West by many of their iconic writers. The themes, genres, and concepts that were developed through the stories of theOne
thousand and One nights nurtured and formed the foundation of Western/European writers many centuries later, and continue to be developed and
imitated in the modern

Zamparin's childhood has affected his motive to survive throughout the story? Samantha Ochoa's Answer: I believe that Louie Zamparini's childhood
has affected his motive to survive the concentration camp tremendously. Since the beginning of the book where Louie was constantly bullied, he was
able to take it and not complain. "He was a marked boy. Bullies, drawn by his oddity and hoping to goad him into uttering Italian curses, pelted him
with rocks, taunted him, punched him, and kicked him. He tried buying their mercy with his lunch, but they pummeled him anyway, leaving him

Is Renaissance Music Influential?
Is Renaissance Music Influential?
Many different things are influential in many different ways. Whether it be how the sinking of the Titanic caused many changes in the regulations of
ships, or how Newton's law of universal gravitation helped to inspire Einstein's theory of general relativity. As well as catastrophic events and
scientific laws, works in the field of music have also been influential. For example, Jacques Offenbach's Infernal Galop was used as the music for the
Can–can, a popular dance. A theme from the Infernal Galop was also used in a movement of Camille Saint–SaГ«ns' The Carnival of the Animals. Other
influential composers include Beethoven, Mozart, J.S. Bach, and Tchaikovsky. Aside from being composers, these people have... Show more content on

The first madrigals evolved from the frottola, another form of vocal music (Strainchamps). The major difference between the two is that the four parts
of the piece are prioritized differently (Strainchamps). In a frottola, the top and bottom voices of the piece are more significant that the two in the
middle, but in the madrigal, all parts were given equal importance (Strainchamps). As time progressed, so did the style of the madrigal. For example,
five parts became increasingly more prevalent in madrigals about halfway through its lifespan, and the amount of expression that was put into the
pieces also grew (Strainchamps). Some of the most well known composers of madrigals are the contemporaries Carlo Gesualdo and Claudio
Monteverdi (Strainchamps). In addition to his madrigals, Monteverdi is notable for writing operas. His most acclaimed operas include L'Orfeo,
L'incoronazione di Poppea, and Il ritorno d'Ulisse in patria. These are also some of the oldest operas that are performed today ("Claudio Monteverdi").
L'Orfeo may have brought about the creation of the Infernal Galop, from the opera Orpheus in the Underworld, as the opera that Orpheus in the
Underworld is based off of, Orfeo ed Euridice, was based on the same myth that L'Orfeo was written around. Monteverdi is also accredited with
bringing about the musical style of the Baroque period ("Origins and Elements of the Baroque Style"). Another important

Claude Debussy Research Paper
Claude Debussy was one of the leading composers of the twentieth century. His music pioneered new genres, and he was considered the father of
impressionistic music. To understand Claude Debussy and his music, it is important to take a look at his early life and what effect that may have had
on his character and influences. His early life had great influence on his musicality and musicianship, specifically his song set Quatre Chansons de
Jeunesse.
Achille–Claude Debussy (known as Claude Debussy) was born in 1862 to Manuel–Achille and Victorine Debussy. He lived a difficult life as a child
and seemed to travel often. It is known that he did not grow up in the best circumstances, and Edward Lockspeiser writes that:

Debussy met her in a roundabout way:
Debussy's father joined the national guard and later became a part of the revolutionary Commune. With its defeat in 1871, Manuel went to prison for a
year at Satory... [During this time, Claude Debussy] became acquainted with Charles de Sivry, the son of a rather pretentious woman named
Antoinette–Flore MautГ© de Fleurville, the mother in law of Paul Verlaine(Wenk 2).
Madame (Mme.) MautГ© was an excellent teacher, able to easily teach what she had learned from Chopin, "whose ideals, thus assimilated, her young
pupil never forgot" (Vallas 1973 4). Debussy passed the exam after only a few months of training with Mme. MautГ©.
Debussy took solfege classes with Albert Lavignac in his first three years. Albert Lavignac was surprised to see that Debussy "had a remarkable
degree of musical sensibility, a taste for unusual chords, complex rhythms, and unexpected progression of subtle harmonies" (Vallas 1973 4). It was
clear that Debussy had a mature musical taste even at the young age of 11. He was not interested in conventional musical ideas even then.
Lavignac had an attachment with Debussy, sometimes keeping him after class and reading music with him. "...He often lost count of time in reading
over and over with Achille some comparatively new work, such as the Overture to 'Tannhauser', an opera whose first performance at Paris some twelve
years previously had caused quite an artistic,

Antoine Lavoisier : The Father Of Modern Chemistry
Antoine Lavoisier: The Father of Modern Chemistry
Antoine Lavoisier was born to a wealthy family on August 26, 1743. His father was Jean–Antoine Lavoisier, who worked in the Paris Parliament as a
lawyer. His mother was Emilie Punctis, who was from a wealthy family that owned a butchery business. Antoine pursued a degree in law in
accordance with his family's wishes, despite his personal desire to study science. During this time Antoine studied science along with his law studies.
In 1764, Antoine obtained his license to practice law. He also published a scientific paper which started his scientific career. His career as a scientist
contributed many lasting concepts such as the law of conservation of mass, determining that oxygen is an element, and the application of the metric
system.
Antoine Lavoisier had very wealthy parents who had both came from wealthy families. Antoine's mother, Emilie, die when he was 5 years old. This
left a large sum of wealth to him and his father. He began his education at the age of 11 at College de Quatre–Nations in Paris. Here he studied general
subjects until he was 18, with a focus on science in his final two years. At his father's encouragement, Antoine enrolled in the college's law school
when he was 18. After two years of study, he obtained a degree in law, and a year later in 1764 he received a license to practice law. During this time,
Antoine had continued to study science and also published a scientific paper in 1764. This paper

Reclining Nude The artwork is called Reclining Nude by Jean–Antoine Watteau and I found this artwork in the Norton Simon Museum. I was
captivated by the sensuality and the delicacy in the painting. I first noticed in the painting was her robust ivory figure contrasting with the dark
chocolate background because I felt that these contrasting colors evoked a sense of purity and light against the mysterious darkness. She seems to have
turned around and noticed something. Perhaps someone just entered the room and surprised her or she could have been waiting for her lover. I also
noticed that in this painting, that there are only three objects: the bed, the girl, and the dark ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The change in France's notion is reflected in the Reclining Nude. The woman is more humanized with her lying comfortably than posing like a
goddess in stupendous fashion. Also, the details of her anatomy, such as the indent of fat between her left breast and hip, give her a more realistic look
as well. The Reclining Nude carries the characteristics of the Rococo style and embodies the cultural shift of France. No one knows for certain the true
meaning behind Watteau's Reclining Nude. There are theories that Reclining Nude has no meaning and is a simply a copy of Watteau's other artwork,
The Remedy. The Remedy "shows the same reclining nude woman who appears in the painting. But in addition, it includes a maid with a syringe
approaching her mistress to administer an enema, and also a night–table at the left and more of the bed at the bottom of the composition" (Posner 386).
Only difference is that in the Reclining Nude, the focal point is not the action between the woman and her nurse, but just the woman. However,
Watteau might have intended for the painting to be an erotic artwork. Watteau might have portrayed her as the ideal woman and to make love to this
woman is as beautiful as her. This type of work would have reflected the "intellectual and social libertinism...especially in France" (Posner 387).
Expressing eroticism such as this was radical, but so was the culture and time period of

Antoine Lavoisier: Father of Modern Chemistry
Antoine–Laurent de Lavoisier, a red–headed man, had made a huge impact on modern science. Lavoisier showed everyone that fire, water, earth, and
air are not elements. Antoine Lavoisier discovered modern chemistry. He also proposed the law of conservation of matter. The law of conservation of
matter is that the mass of materials equals to the mass of reactant matter.
Antoine Lavoisier was born August 26, 1743 into a wealthy family. He was born at Paris, France. Lavoisier was also an only child that time. When he
was young, both his mother and younger sister died. After the mother's death, both him and his father moved in with his aunt. At age eleven, Lavoisier
started school at Quatre–Nations or College of Four Nations. He was intelligent for a boy his age. He knew how to write, French, Latin, and Greek
literature. His father wanted Lavoisier to become a lawyer, although Lavoisier loved science. Jean Guettard, a family friend, and Guillaume Rouelle, a
lecturer, taught Lavoisier earth science and chemistry. Lavoisier believed that chemistry should all be based on facts instead of opinions. In 1764, he
won his law degree. After that, he wanted to join the Royal Academy of Sciences. Getting in the academy was difficult. He wrote research papers and
even experimented to get their attention. His papers were always the best out of the batch. In 1767, Guettard and

The Equalizer Film Analysis
In the film "The Equalizer", a thriller/action directed by Antoine Fuqua, there are several key scenes that build the storyline for the movie, however
there was one scene that engaged my attention and I found had great relevance as I studied this film. It is the first fight scene where Robert McCall
fights a Russian group holed up in a hotel room. Significant aspects that I noticed Fuqua use in this scene were the characters actions, camera
techniques and lighting. I feel as though these 3 techniques were the most important and the most effective. Fuqua cleverly utilised these techniques in
this scene which helped the audience to understand the characters emotion and to help build tension leading up to the fight.
I feel that the director's purpose of this scene is to expose and 'shed a little light' upon Robert and how he approaches tasks as well as the way he
thinks and acts in these situations. One example Fuqua has attempted to portray in this scene is how Robert's mind works differently to most other
people and this is shown when we see Robert opening and closing the door 3 times before finally locking it behind him. This shows myself and the
audience that Robert is some sort of perfectionist and may have some kind of O.C.D. Locking it behind him tells me that he is extremely confident in
his own abilities. I definitely wouldn't enter the room let alone go in and lock the door. Robert, throughout the whole scene, is very calm and patient.
As he is standing at the door

Antoine Lavoisier Research Paper
Why Lavoisier is famous:
Antoine Lavoisier revolutionized chemistry. He named the elements carbon, hydrogen and oxygen; discovered oxygen's role in combustion and
respiration; established that water is a compound of hydrogen and oxygen; discovered that sulfur is an element, and helped continue the transformation
of chemistry from a qualitative science into a quantitative one. He created a new form of nomenclature which is the skeleton of today's Periodic Table,
and he famously proved the theory of phlogiston incorrect and replaced it with the law of conservation of mass and his theory of oxygenation (Holmes,
introduction).

Essay on Motet Development
The motet was one of the most important forms of polyphonic music from 1250 to 1750. The Italian mottetto was originally a profane polyphonic
species of music, the air, or melody, being in the Tenor clef, taking the then acknowledged place of the canto fermo or plainchant, theme. It originated in
the 13th century resulting from the practice of PГ©rotin and his contemporaries in Paris. The term "motet" can be translated as "the word of movement".
Sometimes two upper voices had different words. In the beginning, Latin texts involving topics of the Virgin Mary were used. Later, French secular
pieces became common due to the fact that the motet terminated its connection with church and liturgy. Between the years 1390 and 1435, Dunstable ...

Artists used a variety of newer principles and techniques, utilizing mostly Marian texts and combining vocal and instrumental pairs of voices. For
three–part song motets, Guillaume Dufay utilized a treble–dominated texture derived from the chanson which is a lyrical composition of French words.
More specifically, it is a French polyphonic song of the late Middle Ages and Renaissance. Johannes Brasart, a Walloon like Dufay, whose name
appears among the pontifical singers in 1431, composed motets, including a four–part "Fortis cum quevis actio" and a critically acclaimed "Ave Maria".
The next generation of composers included Johannes Ockeghem and Antoine Busnois. Okeghem was a priest, and was principal chaplain to Charles
VII of France and, to Louis XI, canon and treasurer of St. Martins at Toursbeing. His motet, "Alma Redemptoris", displays much contrapuntal ingenuity,
and he also wrote a motet for thirty–six voices, probably performed by six choirs of six voices each. Binchois, a native of Flanders left some three–part
motets. They include "Beata Dei Genitrix", but the treatment of his works today is strictly referential, and some say that his works cannot at all be
compared to the works of Dunstable Power or Dufay. He died in 1460. Like Dufay, he was a priest and canon of Mons. The motet built on a tenor
cantus firmus became important to

The Contributions Of Science And Science
As a contemporary writer observing the timeline of modern science, and all the abridgments made to it over the past few centuries, one cannot help
but ponder upon the course that science took to reach what it is today. We are aware of the pioneers of science such as Newton, Lavoisier, Stahl, Joule,
Maxwell, Einstein etc, and all of the groundbreaking contributions these extraordinary individuals made to mould science into what we today know it
to be. Over the course of History of Science, we have examined the various factors influencing the life and work of various men of science, and how
the society, polity and religion of their time affected their contributions to science. We began with the classical elegance of Newtonian Enlightenment,
drifted onto the chaotic happenings of the Industrial Revolution, glanced past the Romantic Movement and finally came upon the Einsteinian
revelation. Through the course of the 300 or so years the aforementioned periods encompassed, we have seen scientific theories envisioned, published,
critiqued, lauded and destroyed. Time is our witness as we analyze the many edits made to the holy text of science, and keeping in mind the irony of
the previous sentence , I attempt to answer the question, "Is Modern Science a result of a few abrupt revolutions, or is it a carefully cumulative
accumulation of knowledge"?

Rococo Art : A Unique Style Of Art
Throughout history, there have been many movements of art, influenced by change and culture. Rococo is a unique style of art which grew out of
Baroque style art and is a prime example of a distinct movement inspired by change. One of the most notable artists from this movement was a man
named Jean–Antoine Watteau, who is recognized as well–known Rococo movement artist.
Prevalent throughout 18th–century Europe, Rococo affected many areas of the art world. Rococo art grew in popularity shortly after the death of
King Louis XIV. After the king's passing, most of the french court moved away from their homes in Versailles and returned to their former homes in
Paris. As the former court members moved away from their Versailles homes, new artistic interests and ideas were introduced. Seeking a new start, the
former french court began by re–decorating their new Parisian mansions. During the reign of Louis XIV art was more traditional with rich and bold
colors, but after his death art began to transition into a more calming and graceful era. Rococo art reflected this in its charming and elegant style, with
asymmetrical lines that were inspired by classical themes such as love, youth, and myths of the time.
Jean–Antoine Watteau, better known as Antoine Watteau, was a Frenchman who is credited as the father of the Rococo movement. He was born on
the 10th of October, 1684 and lived until the year of 1721, dying at the early age of thirty–six. Watteau was born in the city of

Antoine Watteau's La Perspective
Antoine Watteau's La Perspective (View through the Trees in the Park of Pierre Crozat) uses many elements of the Rococo style of painting to instill a
sense of intimacy. In this painting, members of the elite society gather unceremoniously in a wooded clearing. The people make casual exchanges as
they mingle in the park. Trees and foliage dominate a majority of the painting. A small white building can be seen in the background through a clearing
in the trees. Watteau uses color, composition, setting, and pose in the painting to create intimacy.
It is evident through the peoples clothing that these are in fact members of the elite. Both men and women are clad in expensive, adorned clothing. They
sit on the ground in their ornate clothes. While the clothing appears formal, the event does not.
There is an overt sense of leisure and intimacy established through the social exchanges in this painting. A man in the foreground is playing a guitar to
a lady, which adds a cheery, relaxed mood. On the right side of the painting, children play on the ground, which shows how this is a joyful event.
While there are many social interactions being made, the people in this painting are very generalized. Watteau purposely does not paint many of the
people's faces to put emphasis on the landscape and setting.
The setting of La Perspective is most utilized to create intimacy. Set in a park in the middle of the woods, Watteau greatly emphasizes the landscape.
Trees and foliage fill most of the

The Capet Mass And The Caput Mass
Homework #6
1.Define the Caput Mass and the cyclic Mass and identify which one is a type of the other.
Before delving into what the Caput Mass is, it's important to know it's origins and what
led to it's creation. One type of mass that was a predecessor to the the Caput Mass was the
cyclic Mass, which is a work featuring the major sections of the liturgy (the Ordinary) as one
musical (not liturgical) unit that includes a cantus firmus, modes, motives, or other
"composititional procedures." The differences between the cyclic Mass and the Ordinary are
that the cyclic Mass doesn't contain the "final Ite missa est," and the cyclic Mass isn't liturgical
because the components of it (Kyrie, Gloria, Credo, Sanctus, and Agnus Dei) are not united,
despite being "unchanging." The cyclic Mass also became the "major genre" that composers
utilized during the 1400s to build their own works upon and allow their skills in emulation and
composition to shine, because the cyclic Mass was large and very complex "in multiple parts."
In fact, due to how popular and monumental the cyclic Mass was amongst composers during
those days, the cyclic Mass is often compared to symphonies during the 18th and 19th centuries.
However, in a musical sense, the cyclic Mass and the 18th–19th century symphonies cannot
really be compared to each other because the movements of the cyclic Mass had to resemble

How Did Antoine Lavoisier Contribute To Chemistry
Antoine Lavoisier was born on August 26, 1743 in Paris, France. He is still to this day considered the "Father of Modern Chemistry" due to his
contributions to chemistry. He became such an influential chemist from his life, discoveries and contributions, and his other contributions outside of
his studies. His mother was Emilie Punctis; she had inherited a large amount of money from her family's success with a butchery business. Lavoisier,
being five at the time of his mother's death, was left with a large amount of her inheritance. His Father was Jean–Antoine Lavoisier, who was a lawyer
in the Paris Parliament. The wealth from his parents allowed him to receive the best education. Between age eleven to eighteen, Lavoisier attended

System. He also opened a lab, for experiments, where many people gathered to see his work. During his lab experiments he found reason to disprove of
the Phlogiston theory when he demonstrated that there was a recently discovered element named oxygen. Oxygen is known for playing a major role in
combustion therefore the Phlogiston element no longer held an importance in this reaction. He identified sulfur as an element by observing that it
could not be broken down to any other simpler substances, proved that no mass is lost in a chemical reaction, and demonstrated that combustion and
respiration are the same chemically by executing a lab experiment with the help of Pierre–Simon Laplace–. He was the first person to prove that
matter's shape may change, but its mass stays the same and Lavoisier also wrote the Elementary Treatise of Chemistry in 1789. This book was
considered the first chemistry textbook and included the laws of chemistry, list of elements, and recent

He first weighed all the carbon dioxide and water that was produced by burning. Between these experiments, he was able to determine that a substance
in air combines with burnable materials, to cause combustion. Antoine then called this substance, "oxygen." This had a great impact because the
conclusion of it all was that Antoine Lavoisier was able to demonstrate that water is able to be composed of a combination of oxygen and hydrogen.
He demonstrated the role of oxygen in animal and plant respiration. He showed that although matter changes its state in chemical reaction, the quantity
of matter is the same at the end as at the beginning of every chemical reaction, giving evidence of the law of the conservation of matter. Antoine was
making history by now because of how successful he was. In 1755 Lavoisier was appointed to the Gunpowder Administration. As a result of his
improvements in the manufacture and delivery of gunpowder, France was able to send large quantities to The American Colonies during the
Revolutionary War. Lavoisier was then made a pensioner in 1778 (salaried member) of the Academy of

This painting looks very basic and unusual. I would consider this to be a very unidentified portrait of a dog embracing the Cajun cultures. This
painting shows me that it's okay to be unique and not like everyone else. The dog wearing a tie is not something you see on a daily basis which
shows that being different is absolutely fine. Yes, this form does reflect the art because the meaning of this painting is very straight to the point
and justified. The dog is sitting very still with a distinguished face almost as to like your different why can't I be. The artist emphasized the tie by
painting bright yellow polka dots. By creating the bright yellow polka dots, it will pop out to people viewing the painting first. Majority of
Rodrigue`s work is associated with the Cajun lifestyle. In all of his painting you can see little details of Cajun cultures. The artist doesn't really use
much technique besides shading, lines, and a variety of colors. The blue dog that Rodrigue is famous for he uses a very distinct style of shading
just enough to give some characteristics of the dog features. Lines are used to create the defined shapes. Rodrigue doesn't use a wide variety of

In many cop movies it is easy to distinguish the good from the evil but in this film it all depends on what your definition of good is. The film is a
journey deep within the LAPD's narcotics division and exposes the darker side of law enforcement. For example, in one of the first scenes
Detective Harris tells Officer Hoyt that a good narcotics detective should have narcotics in their system and pressures him smoke illicit drugs.
Consequently, when Officer Hoyt refuses Detective Harris points a gun at him and tells him if they were on the streets a drug dealer would have
killed him, and tells him he doesn't want him in his division. Officer Hoyt gives in to Detective Harris telling him he will do anything he wants him
to do and smokes the illicit drugs. Officer Hoyt in complete disbelief after just smoking illicit drugs goes into culture shock when he begins to see
that it was just an ordinary part of being in narcotics. In a following scene Officer Hoyt states that it couldn't be true that all this corruption is part of
being in the narcotics division and Detective Harris responds that that's the only way to get the job done. These first few scenes set the tone for how
Detective Harris works with little disregard for the laws he swore to uphold and make it difficult through the film to determine who really are the bad

Differences Between Le Petit Prince Book And Book
Antoine De Saint–Exupery's book, "Le Petit Prince," takes place in five different settings: The asteroid that he lives on, asteroid B–612, the Sahara
desert, an unknown city, a field where its location is unknown, and the other asteroids that the Little Prince explores in the cosmos of space. In all of
these settings the author introduces characters that deliver metaphorical life lessons to the reader. The author didn't write this book to deliver a story,
he wrote this book to deliver different life lessons and themes that the reader is supposed to learn from. But in retrospect, the movie is way different in
how it delivers its messages, and it's also different in the sense of the movie's purpose.
There are many differences between the Little Prince movie, and the book. One of the biggest differences is the point of view of some characters, and
there are even some new characters. In the movie, the story is looked at through the eyes of the mom of a child, the pilot, and the child. What the
little girl finds in the movie is much different from what the pilot or the Little Prince finds in the book. The movie was less of a from–page–to–screen
product, but more of a love letter with more straightforward explanations. Since a different director has created this movie other than the author of the
book, he gives us this movie not to say that he knows what the author's intentions were, but to offer his idea of what it all means. The point of the
movie is not to retell what happened,

the authenticity of being in the "hood". She became sort of an urban anthropologist, because everything the viewer sees is as it really is. The colors and

the clip.
Cinematographers and art directors play a very important and creative role in film production. They work closely with the director and give a film
its unique visual look and identity. The art director was David Lazan and cinematographer Mauro Fiore. The entiriety of the movie is comprised in a

emotion. This gave the plot of the film the feel as though it was unfolding in only a single day.

It is, in fact, a blend of Greek, Chinese, Indian, Turkish, Persian and Arab sources although scholars agree that the frame story, of Shahrazad saving
herself from execution by King Shahriyar by recounting a series of entertaining stories and using cliffhangers each night, is likely of Indian origin.
The tales of The Thousand and One Nights are rooted in oral traditions, and these tales were further popularized by various professional storytellers
who would recite them in coffeehouses, the main forums for interactions between people, all over the Middle East. These tales contain three major
strains: Indo–Persian stories that were later adapted into Arabic, stories composed in Baghdad, and stories composed in Egypt. It is said that the
Arabian Nights actually originates from an old Persian book called Hazar Afsana, or A Thousand Legends, which was later translated into Arabic. The
tales of Hazar Afsana were modified between the 10th and the 16th centuries, and they, in turn, gave us one of the most famous books in Classical
Arabic Literature, The Thousand and One Nights. This unusual title was known in the 12th century, and it came to be not because there were a
thousand and one stories, nor because Shahrazad continuously told stories for a thousand and one nights, but merely because "a thousand and one" is
used to signify a large number close to infinity, and because in the Ancient East, time was counted in nights and not in days. Moreover, it is said that
this title most likely originated from the Turkish expression "bin–bir" which means a thousand and one, and is often used to indicate a large number or

of matter. It is said that chemistry has been around since prehistoric times. This was in the form of everyday objects like pottery, cosmetics and
perfumes, and extracting metals from ores. Chemistry is based on the discovery and study of elements. Some elements were known to ancient man, but
most were discovered by chemists and alchemists. Some say that chemistry started in the early Stone Age when man made fire. Chemistry is the study

Previously, Aladdin is the person taken advantage of and willing to work, now the roles are reversed, and the genie takes Aladdin's place. The
genie, upon rising from the earth, already displays a characteristic from the previously "colonized" Aladdin; the genie is less than human. The
genie reveals itself to be a mythocal being who exists to serve. By calling itself the slave of an object belonging to Aladdin, the genie establishes
himself as less than human, giving into the status of a slave. The genie not only gives into the status of a slave, but directly addresses itself to
Aladdin as a slave, showing that the genie is taking Aladdin's place as a colonial subject. The genie is described as being able to have
interchangeable owners, displaying the genie as weak, and powerless to defend itself from being dominated. In jealousy of Aladdin, the magician
tricks Princess Badroulbadour into trading the genie's lamp for a new lamp, and "at the magician's command carried him [the magician], together
with the palace and the Princess in it, to a lonely place in Africa" (474). Although the genie appears physically strong for carrying an entire palace
across a continent, it is weak because it cannot control its power for its benefit. As a subaltern for different masters, Galland describes the genie as a

Antoine Fuqua Training Day Analysis
This crime–dram movie by Antoine Fuqua Training Day is a spectacular and dingy tale of morality overflowing with great acting, wonderful pacing,
and themes that are simultaneously prescient and timeless. The film resonates louder and louder with each instance of police violence across the
nation, as those in power bend their institution to subdue those in their communities. At the same time, the film deals with ambition, the length that
"heroes" should or will go to do desirable things. In a realistic and urban setting as seen at the peak of events in this film where Hoyt draws a firm
line, his new worldview clashes directly with Alonzo's, and there is simply no room for a quarter.
Training Day features a plot that appears fairly straightforward on the surface, but has subtleties bubbling up from start to finish. Jake Hoyt (Ethan
Hawke) is the newbie detective on a narco beat, and Alonzo Harris (Denzel Washington) is the streetwise mentor who can open all the doors for Hoyt.
The two are narcotics officers and go through a day on the streets of LA doing their investigations. Along the way, a more nuanced collection of hidden
plot elements emerge in a hyper–realistic kind of film noir, with the audience uncovering more and more details at the same pace as Jake. There is also

The technique of connecting incomplete stories under the umbrella of a frame story is not original. The archetype of this literary genre already was
established during the third century B.C. by Indian stories about the birth of Buddha intended to inculcate moral axioms ascribed to Buddha. While
the frame story provided a rationale for a successive line of tales, in itself it was only a frame and as such, subservient to the separate stories.
Likewise, the Arabic tales, under a similar frame, were not necessarily related, even though the wise counsel at the end of each story provided a
unifying factor. The Thousand and One Nights illustrated that secular pieces, even when humorous, could be told for moral purposes, and that didactic
teaching could be achieved outside a house of worship. These apparently frivolous stories could bolster and supplement the moral exhortations of the
clergy when transmitted orally, but they had an even broader dissemination and greater impact when put into written form. The tales of The Thousand
and One Nights may possess an allegorical dimension, in which their conspicuous emphasis on material wealth functions as a metaphor for the lasting
richness of spiritual life, while their general preoccupation with the lower echelons of society provides a ray of hope to the low–born, conveying a
promise that Allah equips the paupers and have–nots with a secret key

Antoine Lavoisier : The Father Of Chemistry
Antoine Lavoisier was instrumental in the creation of chemistry. Born into an aristocratic family before the French revolution, (a series of events that
would result in the loss of his life) Antoine Lavoisier was able to marry a wealthy daughter and gain enough resources to conduct scientific studies
despite being trained in law (due largely to pressure from his father). Antoine Lavoisier was destined to become known by history as the father of
chemistry due to his revolutionizing of the chemical world. A striking transformation occurred as a direct result from Lavoisier's experiments,
papers and ideas. Lavoisier's first essay appeared in 1764, when he was 21 years old, the topic of this essay was public, urban street lighting. In
1768 he designed a new aqueduct for the royal family but when the aqueduct was never constructed Lavoisier instead attempted to purify already
running city water. In 1772 he performed a study into the best way to reconstruct a hospital. Lavoisier in 1769 was elected to the academy of
sciences at the age of 26. Two years later in 1771 he married Marie–Anne Pierrette Paulze, who would become a lab assistant to Lavoisier in later
years. The first real dramatic chemical outbreak came in 1771 when Lavoisier wanted to know more about fire and combustion. The prevailing theory
of the time was having to do with phlogiston, an elusive element that burned up when heated and turned old elements into new elements. Lavoisier

Gender and Power in The Arabian Nights

Contemplating the relationship between gender and power, one undoubtedly notices that tradition regards men as the holders of official office and
power. Historically, men have also always been the leaders of their families, and turned to in times of trouble or need. Making generalizations is
normally a weak approach to any task; in this case however, it is necessary to do so in order to illustrate how drastically opposite the situations prove
in various selections from "1001 Arabian Nights." Rather than men taking critical roles of power, the women characters, especially at crucial moments
in the plot, empower themselves far beyond the male figures, and, consequently, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Even Aladdin's mother criticizes him for his ridiculous desire, "My child, may Allah protect you! It seems you've lost your head!" However, as a
loving mother she tells him, "my greatest desire is for you to marry", and with that makes the boldest decision of the story: to approach the Sultan to
request his daughter's hand in marriage for Aladdin. The move, an unprecedented one, highlights beautifully the incredible composure and boldness of
Aladdin's mother. Even she questions, ."..how can I be so bold as to ask for the daughter of the Sultan of China...?" (164) In an ironic role reversal,
Aladdin's mother suddenly becomes empowered enough to carry out such a bold action. Through her ability to approach the sultan to ask the most
audacious of questions, Aladdin's mother refutes classic notions of the power–gender relationship. The decision to approach the sultan would have
been valiant in itself for even the most courageous man; the fact that a woman did this exemplifies the empowerment of women in "1001 Arabian
Nights" and spurs doubt surrounding the classic idea that men are more powerful than women.
Similarly, the gender–power relationship is once again raised in "Ali Babba and the Forty Thieves", and, like Aladdin, the empowerment of the strong
female characters leads to meaningful impact on the story. Ironically, before this magical transition of power takes place, women are viewed are
powerless victims. For example, when

Training Day: Police Subculture
Training Day
In the Training Day film, directed by Antoine Fuqua (2005), it depicted many cop code regarding police subculture. Subculture is "a subdivision of a
national culture or an enclave within it with a distinct integrated network of behavior, beliefs, and attitudes" (Collins English Dictionary, n.d., as cited
by Jones, 2005, p. 60). Although subculture has its positive impacts, the negative ideas about police subculture are more likely to garner attention.
Alonzo and Jake portrayed many cop codes that include, "don't make waves," "don't leave work for the next tour," "don't give up another cop," and
"protect you ass" (Pollock, 2015). These ideas contradict the code of ethics, values of the police organization, and society as whole ... Show more

Alonzo uses a fake warrant to search the premises for drug money; he confiscated the money and lied to the house owner and Jake about not
finding anything ("Training Day", 2015). The house owner soon realizes and calls her neighbors to result in an open fire standoff ("Training
Day", 2015). Alonzo retaliated by participating in the shooting confrontation ("Training Day", 2015). Jake knew about the misconduct of open
fire: however, he does not report to the authorities. Jake knew that he would not get a promotion if he reported as well as, Alonzo may result to
murdering if he gives him up. "Don't give up another cop" code is a huge part of the police subculture (Pollock, 2015). Officers, who want to save
their job, protect their partners to get reciprocity or want a promotion will result in this cop code to get what they want (Personal communication, K.
Fantazir, Nov. 16, 2016). They can protect other officers by false reporting in their reports or them keeping quiet (Pollock, 2015). In this film, Jake
Hoyt used the "don't give up another cop" code because he wanted his promotion and to keep his

The Influence Of The One Thousand And One Night Stories

  • 1. The Influence Of The One Thousand And One Night Stories The One thousand and One nights stories originate from many different Asian languages and many different cultures, they were collected and then translated over many centuries in order to create one well–known version of it. The stories evolving from the same culture could be seen to have similar themes and morals, and when compiled together, they provide the oriental morals and social concepts. India was known for moral stories, Persia was known for stories about magic and imaginary creatures, and many other stories have Chinese, Egyptian, Greek and other origins (Bridging Cultures, 2011). After compiling these stories, starting from the 9th century in the Abbasid period, they were translated into Arabic in the 13th century in Damascus, and named "Alf Layla wa Layla" (Muslim Philosophy, 2008). Translating the stories in the West French orientalistAntoine Galland initiated ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The influence of the stories and genres on the 18th and 19th century, iconic writers and novelists such as Charles Dickens, Walter Scott, Jane Austen and many others, can be seen through their imitation and use of themes and characters from the 1001 night stories. The Arabian nights shaped the writing and story traditions in Europe, and thus shaped the traditions of today's novel and writing culture (Leeds Trinity University, 2015). The Arabian nights were the first works that promoted genres in Orientalist writing (Al–Olaqi, 2012), and influenced the romantic prose–fiction culture that was adopted by the West by many of their iconic writers. The themes, genres, and concepts that were developed through the stories of theOne thousand and One nights nurtured and formed the foundation of Western/European writers many centuries later, and continue to be developed and imitated in the modern ... Samantha Ochoa's Answer Literature Circle ___________________________________________________________________________ Facilitator; How do you think Louie Zamparin's childhood has affected his motive to survive throughout the story? Samantha Ochoa's Answer: I believe that Louie Zamparini's childhood has affected his motive to survive the concentration camp tremendously. Since the beginning of the book where Louie was constantly bullied, he was able to take it and not complain. "He was a marked boy. Bullies, drawn by his oddity and hoping to goad him into uttering Italian curses, pelted him with rocks, taunted him, punched him, and kicked him. • 3. Is Renaissance Music Influential? Is Renaissance Music Influential? Many different things are influential in many different ways. Whether it be how the sinking of the Titanic caused many changes in the regulations of ships, or how Newton's law of universal gravitation helped to inspire Einstein's theory of general relativity. As well as catastrophic events and scientific laws, works in the field of music have also been influential. For example, Jacques Offenbach's Infernal Galop was used as the music for the Can–can, a popular dance. A theme from the Infernal Galop was also used in a movement of Camille Saint–SaГ«ns' The Carnival of the Animals. Other influential composers include Beethoven, Mozart, J.S. Bach, and Tchaikovsky. Aside from being composers, these people have... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The first madrigals evolved from the frottola, another form of vocal music (Strainchamps). The major difference between the two is that the four parts of the piece are prioritized differently (Strainchamps). In a frottola, the top and bottom voices of the piece are more significant that the two in the middle, but in the madrigal, all parts were given equal importance (Strainchamps). As time progressed, so did the style of the madrigal. For example, five parts became increasingly more prevalent in madrigals about halfway through its lifespan, and the amount of expression that was put into the pieces also grew (Strainchamps). Some of the most well known composers of madrigals are the contemporaries Carlo Gesualdo and Claudio Monteverdi (Strainchamps). In addition to his madrigals, Monteverdi is notable for writing operas. His most acclaimed operas include L'Orfeo, L'incoronazione di Poppea, and Il ritorno d'Ulisse in patria. These are also some of the oldest operas that are performed today ("Claudio Monteverdi"). L'Orfeo may have brought about the creation of the Infernal Galop, from the opera Orpheus in the Underworld, as the opera that Orpheus in the Underworld is based off of, Orfeo ed Euridice, was based on the same myth that L'Orfeo was written around. Monteverdi is also accredited with bringing about the musical style of the Baroque period ("Origins and Elements of the Baroque Style"). Another important ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Claude Debussy Research Paper Claude Debussy was one of the leading composers of the twentieth century. His music pioneered new genres, and he was considered the father of impressionistic music. To understand Claude Debussy and his music, it is important to take a look at his early life and what effect that may have had on his character and influences. His early life had great influence on his musicality and musicianship, specifically his song set Quatre Chansons de Jeunesse. Achille–Claude Debussy (known as Claude Debussy) was born in 1862 to Manuel–Achille and Victorine Debussy. He lived a difficult life as a child and seemed to travel often. Debussy met her in a roundabout way: Debussy's father joined the national guard and later became a part of the revolutionary Commune. With its defeat in 1871, Manuel went to prison for a year at Satory... [During this time, Claude Debussy] became acquainted with Charles de Sivry, the son of a rather pretentious woman named Antoinette–Flore MautГ© de Fleurville, the mother in law of Paul Verlaine(Wenk 2). Madame (Mme.) MautГ© was an excellent teacher, able to easily teach what she had learned from Chopin, "whose ideals, thus assimilated, her young pupil never forgot" (Vallas 1973 4). Debussy passed the exam after only a few months of training with Mme. MautГ©. Debussy took solfege classes with Albert Lavignac in his first three years. Albert Lavignac was surprised to see that Debussy "had a remarkable degree of musical sensibility, a taste for unusual chords, complex rhythms, and unexpected progression of subtle harmonies" (Vallas 1973 4). It was clear that Debussy had a mature musical taste even at the young age of 11. He was not interested in conventional musical ideas even then. Lavignac had an attachment with Debussy, sometimes keeping him after class and reading music with him. Reclining Nude Faith Kim Prof. Hight Introduction to Visual Arts 4 June 2012 Reclining Nude The artwork is called Reclining Nude by Jean–Antoine Watteau and I found this artwork in the Norton Simon Museum. I was captivated by the sensuality and the delicacy in the painting. I first noticed in the painting was her robust ivory figure contrasting with the dark chocolate background because I felt that these contrasting colors evoked a sense of purity and light against the mysterious darkness. She seems to have turned around and noticed something. Perhaps someone just entered the room and surprised her or she could have been waiting for her lover. The change in France's notion is reflected in the Reclining Nude. The woman is more humanized with her lying comfortably than posing like a goddess in stupendous fashion. Also, the details of her anatomy, such as the indent of fat between her left breast and hip, give her a more realistic look as well. The Reclining Nude carries the characteristics of the Rococo style and embodies the cultural shift of France. No one knows for certain the true meaning behind Watteau's Reclining Nude. There are theories that Reclining Nude has no meaning and is a simply a copy of Watteau's other artwork, The Remedy. The Remedy "shows the same reclining nude woman who appears in the painting. But in addition, it includes a maid with a syringe approaching her mistress to administer an enema, and also a night–table at the left and more of the bed at the bottom of the composition" (Posner 386). Only difference is that in the Reclining Nude, the focal point is not the action between the woman and her nurse, but just the woman. However, Watteau might have intended for the painting to be an erotic artwork. Watteau might have portrayed her as the ideal woman and to make love to this woman is as beautiful as her. • 7. Antoine Lavoisier : Father Of Modern Chemistry Ungab 1 Kristina Ungab Mrs. Duren 25 May 2017 Antoine Lavoisier: Father of Modern Chemistry Antoine–Laurent de Lavoisier, a red–headed man, had made a huge impact on modern science. Lavoisier showed everyone that fire, water, earth, and air are not elements. Antoine Lavoisier discovered modern chemistry. He also proposed the law of conservation of matter. The law of conservation of matter is that the mass of materials equals to the mass of reactant matter. Antoine Lavoisier was born August 26, 1743 into a wealthy family. He was born at Paris, France. Lavoisier was also an only child that time. When he was young, both his mother and younger sister died. After the mother's death, both him and his father moved in with his aunt. At age eleven, Lavoisier started school at Quatre–Nations or College of Four Nations. He was intelligent for a boy his age. He knew how to write, French, Latin, and Greek literature. His father wanted Lavoisier to become a lawyer, although Lavoisier loved science. Jean Guettard, a family friend, and Guillaume Rouelle, a lecturer, taught Lavoisier earth science and chemistry. Lavoisier believed that chemistry should all be based on facts instead of opinions. In 1764, he won his law degree. After that, he wanted to join the Royal Academy of Sciences. Getting in the academy was difficult. He wrote research papers and even experimented to get their attention. His papers were always the best out of the batch. In 1767, Guettard and ... • 10. The Equalizer Film Analysis In the film "The Equalizer", a thriller/action directed by Antoine Fuqua, there are several key scenes that build the storyline for the movie, however there was one scene that engaged my attention and I found had great relevance as I studied this film. It is the first fight scene where Robert McCall fights a Russian group holed up in a hotel room. Significant aspects that I noticed Fuqua use in this scene were the characters actions, camera techniques and lighting. I feel as though these 3 techniques were the most important and the most effective. Fuqua cleverly utilised these techniques in this scene which helped the audience to understand the characters emotion and to help build tension leading up to the fight. I feel that the director's purpose of this scene is to expose and 'shed a little light' upon Robert and how he approaches tasks as well as the way he thinks and acts in these situations. One example Fuqua has attempted to portray in this scene is how Robert's mind works differently to most other people and this is shown when we see Robert opening and closing the door 3 times before finally locking it behind him. This shows myself and the audience that Robert is some sort of perfectionist and may have some kind of O.C.D. Locking it behind him tells me that he is extremely confident in his own abilities. I definitely wouldn't enter the room let alone go in and lock the door. Robert, throughout the whole scene, is very calm and patient. As he is standing at the door ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 11. Antoine Lavoisier Research Paper Why Lavoisier is famous: Antoine Lavoisier revolutionized chemistry. He named the elements carbon, hydrogen and oxygen; discovered oxygen's role in combustion and respiration; established that water is a compound of hydrogen and oxygen; discovered that sulfur is an element, and helped continue the transformation of chemistry from a qualitative science into a quantitative one. He created a new form of nomenclature which is the skeleton of today's Periodic Table, and he famously proved the theory of phlogiston incorrect and replaced it with the law of conservation of mass and his theory of oxygenation (Holmes, introduction). • 13. Essay on Motet Development The motet was one of the most important forms of polyphonic music from 1250 to 1750. The Italian mottetto was originally a profane polyphonic species of music, the air, or melody, being in the Tenor clef, taking the then acknowledged place of the canto fermo or plainchant, theme. It originated in the 13th century resulting from the practice of PГ©rotin and his contemporaries in Paris. The term "motet" can be translated as "the word of movement". Sometimes two upper voices had different words. In the beginning, Latin texts involving topics of the Virgin Mary were used. Later, French secular pieces became common due to the fact that the motet terminated its connection with church and liturgy. Between the years 1390 and 1435, Dunstable ... For three–part song motets, Guillaume Dufay utilized a treble–dominated texture derived from the chanson which is a lyrical composition of French words. More specifically, it is a French polyphonic song of the late Middle Ages and Renaissance. Johannes Brasart, a Walloon like Dufay, whose name appears among the pontifical singers in 1431, composed motets, including a four–part "Fortis cum quevis actio" and a critically acclaimed "Ave Maria". The next generation of composers included Johannes Ockeghem and Antoine Busnois. Okeghem was a priest, and was principal chaplain to Charles VII of France and, to Louis XI, canon and treasurer of St. Martins at Toursbeing. His motet, "Alma Redemptoris", displays much contrapuntal ingenuity, and he also wrote a motet for thirty–six voices, probably performed by six choirs of six voices each. Binchois, a native of Flanders left some three–part motets. They include "Beata Dei Genitrix", but the treatment of his works today is strictly referential, and some say that his works cannot at all be compared to the works of Dunstable Power or Dufay. The Contributions Of Science And Science As a contemporary writer observing the timeline of modern science, and all the abridgments made to it over the past few centuries, one cannot help but ponder upon the course that science took to reach what it is today. We are aware of the pioneers of science such as Newton, Lavoisier, Stahl, Joule, Maxwell, Einstein etc, and all of the groundbreaking contributions these extraordinary individuals made to mould science into what we today know it to be. Over the course of History of Science, we have examined the various factors influencing the life and work of various men of science, and how the society, polity and religion of their time affected their contributions to science. We began with the classical elegance of Newtonian Enlightenment, drifted onto the chaotic happenings of the Industrial Revolution, glanced past the Romantic Movement and finally came upon the Einsteinian revelation. Through the course of the 300 or so years the aforementioned periods encompassed, we have seen scientific theories envisioned, published, critiqued, lauded and destroyed. Time is our witness as we analyze the many edits made to the holy text of science, and keeping in mind the irony of the previous sentence , I attempt to answer the question, "Is Modern Science a result of a few abrupt revolutions, or is it a carefully cumulative accumulation of knowledge"? Rococo is a unique style of art which grew out of Baroque style art and is a prime example of a distinct movement inspired by change. One of the most notable artists from this movement was a man named Jean–Antoine Watteau, who is recognized as well–known Rococo movement artist. Prevalent throughout 18th–century Europe, Rococo affected many areas of the art world. Rococo art grew in popularity shortly after the death of King Louis XIV. After the king's passing, most of the french court moved away from their homes in Versailles and returned to their former homes in Paris. As the former court members moved away from their Versailles homes, new artistic interests and ideas were introduced. Seeking a new start, the former french court began by re–decorating their new Parisian mansions. During the reign of Louis XIV art was more traditional with rich and bold colors, but after his death art began to transition into a more calming and graceful era. Rococo art reflected this in its charming and elegant style, with asymmetrical lines that were inspired by classical themes such as love, youth, and myths of the time. Jean–Antoine Watteau, better known as Antoine Watteau, was a Frenchman who is credited as the father of the Rococo movement. • 16. Antoine Watteau's La Perspective Antoine Watteau's La Perspective (View through the Trees in the Park of Pierre Crozat) uses many elements of the Rococo style of painting to instill a sense of intimacy. In this painting, members of the elite society gather unceremoniously in a wooded clearing. The people make casual exchanges as they mingle in the park. Trees and foliage dominate a majority of the painting. A small white building can be seen in the background through a clearing in the trees. Watteau uses color, composition, setting, and pose in the painting to create intimacy. It is evident through the peoples clothing that these are in fact members of the elite. Both men and women are clad in expensive, adorned clothing. They sit on the ground in their ornate clothes. While the clothing appears formal, the event does not. There is an overt sense of leisure and intimacy established through the social exchanges in this painting. A man in the foreground is playing a guitar to a lady, which adds a cheery, relaxed mood. On the right side of the painting, children play on the ground, which shows how this is a joyful event. While there are many social interactions being made, the people in this painting are very generalized. Watteau purposely does not paint many of the people's faces to put emphasis on the landscape and setting. The setting of La Perspective is most utilized to create intimacy. • 17. The Capet Mass And The Caput Mass Homework #6 1.Define the Caput Mass and the cyclic Mass and identify which one is a type of the other. Before delving into what the Caput Mass is, it's important to know it's origins and what led to it's creation. One type of mass that was a predecessor to the the Caput Mass was the cyclic Mass, which is a work featuring the major sections of the liturgy (the Ordinary) as one musical (not liturgical) unit that includes a cantus firmus, modes, motives, or other "composititional procedures." The differences between the cyclic Mass and the Ordinary are that the cyclic Mass doesn't contain the "final Ite missa est," and the cyclic Mass isn't liturgical because the components of it (Kyrie, Gloria, Credo, Sanctus, and Agnus Dei) are not united, despite being "unchanging." The cyclic Mass also became the "major genre" that composers utilized during the 1400s to build their own works upon and allow their skills in emulation and composition to shine, because the cyclic Mass was large and very complex "in multiple parts." In fact, due to how popular and monumental the cyclic Mass was amongst composers during those days, the cyclic Mass is often compared to symphonies during the 18th and 19th centuries.

Consequently, when Officer Hoyt refuses Detective Harris points a gun at him and tells him if they were on the streets a drug dealer would have killed him, and tells him he doesn't want him in his division. Officer Hoyt gives in to Detective Harris telling him he will do anything he wants him to do and smokes the illicit drugs. Officer Hoyt in complete disbelief after just smoking illicit drugs goes into culture shock when he begins to see that it was just an ordinary part of being in narcotics. In a following scene Officer Hoyt states that it couldn't be true that all this corruption is part of being in the narcotics division and Detective Harris responds that that's the only way to get the job done. These first few scenes set the tone for how Detective Harris works with little disregard for the laws he swore to uphold and make it difficult through the film to determine who really are the bad ... • 30. Differences Between Le Petit Prince Book And Book Antoine De Saint–Exupery's book, "Le Petit Prince," takes place in five different settings: The asteroid that he lives on, asteroid B–612, the Sahara desert, an unknown city, a field where its location is unknown, and the other asteroids that the Little Prince explores in the cosmos of space. In all of these settings the author introduces characters that deliver metaphorical life lessons to the reader. The author didn't write this book to deliver a story, he wrote this book to deliver different life lessons and themes that the reader is supposed to learn from. But in retrospect, the movie is way different in how it delivers its messages, and it's also different in the sense of the movie's purpose. There are many differences between the Little Prince movie, and the book. One of the biggest differences is the point of view of some characters, and there are even some new characters. In the movie, the story is looked at through the eyes of the mom of a child, the pilot, and the child. What the little girl finds in the movie is much different from what the pilot or the Little Prince finds in the book. The movie was less of a from–page–to–screen product, but more of a love letter with more straightforward explanations. Since a different director has created this movie other than the author of the book, he gives us this movie not to say that he knows what the author's intentions were, but to offer his idea of what it all means. The point of the movie is not to retell what happened, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Islamic Golden Age refers to the period when the Muslim world was ruled by various caliphates, which came to an end in 1258 due to the Mongol invasions and the sack of Baghdad. It is, in fact, a blend of Greek, Chinese, Indian, Turkish, Persian and Arab sources although scholars agree that the frame story, of Shahrazad saving herself from execution by King Shahriyar by recounting a series of entertaining stories and using cliffhangers each night, is likely of Indian origin. The tales of The Thousand and One Nights are rooted in oral traditions, and these tales were further popularized by various professional storytellers who would recite them in coffeehouses, the main forums for interactions between people, all over the Middle East. These tales contain three major strains: Indo–Persian stories that were later adapted into Arabic, stories composed in Baghdad, and stories composed in Egypt. It is said that the Arabian Nights actually originates from an old Persian book called Hazar Afsana, or A Thousand Legends, which was later translated into Arabic. The tales of Hazar Afsana were modified between the 10th and the 16th centuries, and they, in turn, gave us one of the most famous books in Classical Arabic Literature, The Thousand and One Nights. This unusual title was known in the 12th century, and it came to be not because there were a thousand and one stories, nor because Shahrazad continuously told stories for a thousand and one nights, but merely because "a thousand and one" is used to signify a large number close to infinity, and because in the Ancient East, time was counted in nights and not in days. Moreover, it is said that this title most likely originated from the Turkish expression "bin–bir" which means a thousand and one, and is often used to indicate a large number or an unimaginable amount of ... Chemistry is the branch of physical science that studies composition, properties, energy, and behavior of matter. It is said that chemistry has been around since prehistoric times. The genie, upon rising from the earth, already displays a characteristic from the previously "colonized" Aladdin; the genie is less than human. The genie reveals itself to be a mythocal being who exists to serve. By calling itself the slave of an object belonging to Aladdin, the genie establishes himself as less than human, giving into the status of a slave. The genie not only gives into the status of a slave, but directly addresses itself to Aladdin as a slave, showing that the genie is taking Aladdin's place as a colonial subject. The genie is described as being able to have interchangeable owners, displaying the genie as weak, and powerless to defend itself from being dominated. In jealousy of Aladdin, the magician tricks Princess Badroulbadour into trading the genie's lamp for a new lamp, and "at the magician's command carried him [the magician], together with the palace and the Princess in it, to a lonely place in Africa" (474). • 36. Antoine Fuqua Training Day Analysis This crime–dram movie by Antoine Fuqua Training Day is a spectacular and dingy tale of morality overflowing with great acting, wonderful pacing, and themes that are simultaneously prescient and timeless. The film resonates louder and louder with each instance of police violence across the nation, as those in power bend their institution to subdue those in their communities. At the same time, the film deals with ambition, the length that "heroes" should or will go to do desirable things. In a realistic and urban setting as seen at the peak of events in this film where Hoyt draws a firm line, his new worldview clashes directly with Alonzo's, and there is simply no room for a quarter. Jake Hoyt (Ethan Hawke) is the newbie detective on a narco beat, and Alonzo Harris (Denzel Washington) is the streetwise mentor who can open all the doors for Hoyt. The two are narcotics officers and go through a day on the streets of LA doing their investigations. Along the way, a more nuanced collection of hidden plot elements emerge in a hyper–realistic kind of film noir, with the audience uncovering more and more details at the same pace as Jake. The technique of connecting incomplete stories under the umbrella of a frame story is not original. The archetype of this literary genre already was established during the third century B.C. by Indian stories about the birth of Buddha intended to inculcate moral axioms ascribed to Buddha. While the frame story provided a rationale for a successive line of tales, in itself it was only a frame and as such, subservient to the separate stories. Likewise, the Arabic tales, under a similar frame, were not necessarily related, even though the wise counsel at the end of each story provided a unifying factor. The Thousand and One Nights illustrated that secular pieces, even when humorous, could be told for moral purposes, and that didactic teaching could be achieved outside a house of worship. These apparently frivolous stories could bolster and supplement the moral exhortations of the clergy when transmitted orally, but they had an even broader dissemination and greater impact when put into written form. The tales of The Thousand and One Nights may possess an allegorical dimension, in which their conspicuous emphasis on material wealth functions as a metaphor for the lasting richness of spiritual life, while their general preoccupation with the lower echelons of society provides a ray of hope to the low–born, conveying a promise that Allah equips the paupers and have–nots with a secret key ... • 39. Antoine Lavoisier : The Father Of Chemistry Antoine Lavoisier was instrumental in the creation of chemistry. Born into an aristocratic family before the French revolution, (a series of events that would result in the loss of his life) Antoine Lavoisier was able to marry a wealthy daughter and gain enough resources to conduct scientific studies despite being trained in law (due largely to pressure from his father). Antoine Lavoisier was destined to become known by history as the father of chemistry due to his revolutionizing of the chemical world. A striking transformation occurred as a direct result from Lavoisier's experiments, papers and ideas. Lavoisier's first essay appeared in 1764, when he was 21 years old, the topic of this essay was public, urban street lighting. In 1768 he designed a new aqueduct for the royal family but when the aqueduct was never constructed Lavoisier instead attempted to purify already running city water. In 1772 he performed a study into the best way to reconstruct a hospital. Lavoisier in 1769 was elected to the academy of sciences at the age of 26. Two years later in 1771 he married Marie–Anne Pierrette Paulze, who would become a lab assistant to Lavoisier in later years. The first real dramatic chemical outbreak came in 1771 when Lavoisier wanted to know more about fire and combustion. The prevailing theory of the time was having to do with phlogiston, an elusive element that burned up when heated and turned old elements into new elements. Essay on Gender and Power in The Arabian Nights Gender and Power in The Arabian Nights Works Cited Not Included Contemplating the relationship between gender and power, one undoubtedly notices that tradition regards men as the holders of official office and power. Historically, men have also always been the leaders of their families, and turned to in times of trouble or need. Making generalizations is normally a weak approach to any task; in this case however, it is necessary to do so in order to illustrate how drastically opposite the situations prove in various selections from "1001 Arabian Nights." Rather than men taking critical roles of power, the women characters, especially at crucial moments in the plot, empower themselves far beyond the male figures, and, consequently, ... However, as a loving mother she tells him, "my greatest desire is for you to marry", and with that makes the boldest decision of the story: to approach the Sultan to request his daughter's hand in marriage for Aladdin. The move, an unprecedented one, highlights beautifully the incredible composure and boldness of Aladdin's mother. Even she questions, ."..how can I be so bold as to ask for the daughter of the Sultan of China...?" (164) In an ironic role reversal, Aladdin's mother suddenly becomes empowered enough to carry out such a bold action. Through her ability to approach the sultan to ask the most audacious of questions, Aladdin's mother refutes classic notions of the power–gender relationship. The decision to approach the sultan would have been valiant in itself for even the most courageous man; the fact that a woman did this exemplifies the empowerment of women in "1001 Arabian Nights" and spurs doubt surrounding the classic idea that men are more powerful than women. Similarly, the gender–power relationship is once again raised in "Ali Babba and the Forty Thieves", and, like Aladdin, the empowerment of the strong female characters leads to meaningful impact on the story. Ironically, before this magical transition of power takes place, women are viewed are powerless victims. For example, when ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
