"Macbeth" a tragedy written by William Shakespeare, portrays, how the main character Macbeth,
transforms from a war hero, to a murdering villain. Macbeth starts out as the thane of Glamis and

Macbeth does display ambition but it does require a spark to ignite the flame inside of him. That
spark comes to him through the witches prophecy as opposed to Macbeth's own invention. One
could deduce that Macbeth would have never contemplated killing the king if it hadn't been for the
influences that other people had on him. Initially when Macbeth hears his fortune from the witches
he doesn't instantly grasp it; in fact he acts quite differently. The experience with the witches makes
him quite uncomfortable " cannot be ill, cannot be good"(1,3,130). Although the witches have made
him feel uneasy "present fears are less than horrible imaginings"(1,3,136–137) he decides he will
allow what fate he is destined to prove itself by alowing time and consequence to run its path " come
what may, time and the hour runs through the roughest day"(1,3,146–147). However whilst
discussing the witches prophecy Macbeth says "my thought, who's murder is yet but
fantastical"(1,3,138). The wholesomeness that Macbeth appears to exhume comes into question
when he begins to talk of murder. Macbeth confesses also to "black and deep desires"(1,5,51) and

As a result, of the witches since they told him about the prophecy and how he would become king.

Furthermore, ambition is desire of doing something that is good or bad like revenge. Also, when
Malcolm heard what happened to Macduff's family and how Scotland has become after being ruled
by Macbeth, it made him want to kill Macbeth.
Another theme in Macbeth is guilt. I believe that guilt is feeling bad for something that you have
done to someone or something. In addition, guilt can destroy you and/or eat at you. It could even
drive you to do something like it did to Macduff. Macduff went to England and left his family
behind so that he could get Malcolm to come back and be king. When he left to get Malcolm,
Macbeth killed his entire family. He felt guilty for living his family alone in Scotland without
protection. Similarly to ambition, his guilt drove him to kill Macbeth. Another example of guilt
is Lady Macbeth sleeping walking towards the end of the play. Lady Macbeth and Macbeth killed
the king of Scotland (Duncan) and she is feeling guilty for what she has done. Also, she doesn't
like what her husband has done like killing Macduff's whole family. She feels as if she was
responsible for that. In a result of that she ends up sleep walking and eventually killing herself
because she couldn't live with the guilt anymore. The guilt of killing Duncan literally ate at Lady
Macbeth and destroyed her to the point of suicide. Macbeth feels guilty for killing Duncan.

Shakespeare's use of a soliloquy is an important factor of the play. It is usually used when a
character wants to express his or her thoughts and feelings when alone. Macbeth's soliloquy takes

reassuring himself that he is doing the right thing.
Throughout Macbeth's speech, he uses a variety of tones which creates an atmosphere within the

Macbeth can't stand the anticipation any more and leaves to kill Duncan before his words
change his mind. The structure of the soliloquy shows how confused Macbeth really is. It is a
very long piece, which gives the impression that Macbeth is almost rambling as if he was loosing
his mind. At the beginning of the soliloquy, Macbeth speaks in shorter sentences giving the
impression that he is very tense and that he has the sense of urgency. He has decided to commit
treason and now wants to get it over and done with. The use of shorter sentences also creates a
picture of confusion and uncertainty. "I have thee not, and yet I see thee still." This antithesis
further highlights Macbeth's confusion and self doubts. We see Macbeth asking questions which
emphasizes that he has doubts and worries about what he is going to do. "Is this a dagger which I
see before me, the handle toward my hand?" Here he is unsure of what he can see, it's like he can't
believe his eyes. Towards the end of the soliloquy the sentences become longer, and Macbeth seems
to sound calmer and more prepared.
Shakespeare's choice of vocabulary fits the theme of 'Murder'. This is very affective and creates a

seek it nonetheless out of greed. Most of Shakespeare's works hold an element of the supernatural
and the play Macbeth is no exception. In this play we see a contemporary morality that warns of the
dangers of trafficking with instruments of darkness; the witches in the play prophesize of Macbeths
future as king, and Macbeth blinded by his hunger for power fails to recognize that the witches

If he were certain about the murder he would have had the confidence to face the exposing light
of nature fearlessly. True evil fears no good. Macbeth fears the light then he cannot be a purely
evil individual. A purely evil individual fears nothing but himself and to add to that note that is
reason why Macbeth is referred to as a tragic hero and not a villain. His tragedy is profound
because he realizes that killing the king is wrong and mentally and physically he is very hesitant to

tell what is on someone else mind by looking at the face; the face will hide the truth that the heart
