Igloo History
Igloo, also spelled iglu, also called aputiak, igloo [Credit: © Fred Bruemmer]temporary winter home
or hunting–ground dwelling of Canadian and Greenland Inuit (Eskimos). The term igloo, or iglu,
from Eskimo igdlu ("house"), is related to Iglulik, a town, and Iglulirmiut, an Inuit people, both on
an island of the same name. The igloo, usually made from blocks of snow and dome–shaped, is used
only in the area between the Mackenzie River delta and Labrador where, in the summer, Inuit live in
sealskin or, more recently, cloth tents.
To build the igloo, the builder takes a deep snowdrift of fine–grained, compact snow and cuts it into
blocks with a snow knife, a swordlike instrument originally made of bone but now usually of metal.

Copper Mountain: A Short Story
It was a sunny Colorado morning. My dad and I were taking our annual hut trip; however, we had
better planning because this was our third trip. We began the morning like any other day; we got up,
gathered our gear and rushed out the door, excited to start the day. As we were driving up the
twisting roads in the mountains, we made a quick side stop to get some breakfast. "Do you think this
will be an easy hike?" I looked at him with inquiring eyes. "This is the biggest climb we've done,
but we know what to do this time around," my dad said, never taking his eyes off the road.
We continued driving, and after what seemed like an eternity, we finally arrived at the base of
Copper Mountain. We were giddy with excitement, and getting ready took a ... Show more content

"Daaaaaad, shouldn't we have found the hut by now?" "Don't worry Caleb, its right around this
bend," said dad, but I could see that he was just as worried as I was.
We kept going. It snowed about a foot in under and hour, which made following the path impossible.
We were heading in what we thought was the right direction and stumbled on to a trail. As luck
would have it, we made a circle and had crossed the trail we had just broken. After about another
hour of wandering aimlessly with enough visibility to see three feet, we were planning on making a
snow cave.
"Let's walk around the ridge one more time and see if we can see anything!" my dad shouted
through the wind.
We slowly pulled ourselves through the snow for fifteen minutes, only hoping to catch a glimpse of
the hut. After what seemed like an eternity, we crossed over the ridge and lo and behold there was
the hut. The scene was just beautiful, the hut looked nice and cozy tucked into some trees, with a
warm, inviting light casting through the windows. We let out a few victory obscurities and headed
toward the hut, anticipating a nice warm meal and a bed. We finally stepped on to the porch of the
hut. We got to the door and it is

Symbolism In The Wizard's Tide
The story "The Wizard's Tide" takes place during the Great Depression. The Great Depression was
an era of time in the US when the economy crashed after years of prosperity. People who had once
been living in large houses with many servants and extravagant parties had to adjust to a much
simpler lifestyle. Many people lost their jobs, and were forced to downsize their houses and sell
many of their possessions. Faced with constant stress, many people during this time couldn't cope
with the sudden change very well and had major personality changes, usually similar to the ones
seen in the stages of grief. Some people, such as Teddy's father, are in depression, and try to hide
emotions and sadly reflect on the state of things or try to hide emotions through drinking as a way of
trying to cope. Others, such as Teddy's mother, release their anger on others and try to find someone
or something to blame for the depression. The Great Depression has a huge impact on the
personalities of the characters in this book, and dictates the events we see take place.
The beach is a major symbol in the story "The Wizard's Tide". While Teddy's family is at the beach,
everyone is happy. In this place, despite all the hardships that they have gone through, they still find
peace on this place. The shoreline represents family and the bonds the family has together, while the
water represents life as a whole. Out in the water, many dangerous things can happen. If you're not a
strong swimmer, you risk

Comparing The Inuit And Haida People
Inuit and Haida The Inuit and the Haida people can be very different at times. But they also can be
the same. The Inuits live in the Arctic and the Haida live in the forest. The Haida group also puts
underwater traps in lakes and rivers to trap fish. They also both gather nuts, berries, and eggs. They
use tools that are unique to them. The challenges that the Inuit people face are that they have a
chance of crushing, their ships when they go whale hunting because of the icebergs. A challenge that
the Haida people have is that they are chopping the trees down they can be crushed. Another
challenge that the Inuit have people face is that if they don't get warm then they can freeze to death.
Sometimes they face not even having food because it goes away from both tribes. Another thing for
the Inuit people is that they can get their boat sank because of big walrice. Also they have to get it
before it goes underwater or else we are doomed because they have no food. ... Show more content

Well some resources that the Haida use are bones, cedar bark. Some of the tools they have are
harpoons, underwater traps, and sledge hammers. Some of these tools are used for hunting and
others are used for things to cut down trees. One resource that the Haida use is fire. Well everyone
uses fire. But they use it for cutting down trees. Because after they chop the tree with the bones they
put a fire to burn the rest. Inuit people use whale bones for their houses because they don't have
wood. Inuit people also use ropes and harness to get eggs off

The Inuit People: Eskimo Fight For Life
According to the text, culture refers to the ways of acting and thinking, as well as the material
objects that in harmony form a people's way of life *. The physical environment of the Artic
strongly influences the culture surrounding the Inuit people, mirroring a hunter and gathers' society,
as shown in the film, Eskimo Fight for Life. The Inuit peoples shown in the film live in the Artic,
where temperatures average –30 degrees Celsius and the land is barren. This extreme weather
greatly impacts both the material and non–material culture of their society to ensure survival. For
instance, this barren landscape forces the Inuit to make igloos out of snow in order to insulate
themselves from the harsh winds, resulting in a community effort

Designing A Quality Product For The Longest Ice Retention
When you sit and see the outdoor industry being flooded with all these new cooler brands, you
wonder what really sets the coolers apart? After all they are still just and insulated box or cup that
keeps you drink cold. The main difference between the different brands is the type of insulation or
the quality of the seals and workmanship to make a quality product that allows little energy to
escape. There are a few questions that we have that we hope to find the answer too hear they are in
the following few sentences. With the high prices of these coolers, what is so special besides the
quality? Does the type of insulation really affect the performance of his cooler? We are about to find
out which cooler is the best to buy if you are willing to splurge and spend the money. To test this
question of what brand and insulation type allows for the longest ice retention, we are going to test
six different brands coolers and see what performs the best. The way that we are going to test the ice
retention part is simple. We will fill each cooler with the same amount of ice by volume of all of the
coolers. For example, if we have a 60 quart cooler and we fill it with 60 pounds of crushed ice, then
we would fill the one gallon cooler with one pound of crushed ice. This allows for their to be a
constant. We will then leave all of the coolers that we are testing in the same place. Next, to check
the temperature of the inside of the cooler we will open the coolers at the same time every

B-Day Pet Research Paper
B–day Pet "eeeee!I can't wait to get my guinea pig!" July 6 2016, It was the day before my birthday
and I really wanted a guinea pig. I knew so much about them and couldn't wait to get one for my
birthday. On my birthday, I Revived 100 dollars in gift cards to Pet Co and Pet Smart. First I decided
to go to Pet Smart I bought a cage for 49 dollars and food. They didn't have the guinea pig I wanted
there so we went to Pet Co, when we got there I also bought bedding, hay and a pink igloo. Then, I
got my guinea pig she has white fur with a black ear and a pink ear, and a black face with a white
stripe through the middle of her face, she also had a big brown spot on her butt. After we when't to
drive home my mom got a phone call, she said it was from Gramma, she wanted to see my guinea
pig. When we arrived at my gamma's house I took my guinea pig out of her box she was put in and
held her flat to my chest. (I rember the pet store person said she liked to be held flat) When my
cousin Bailee came to see, she thought she was cute, but Brooklynn my other cousin was very
interested in my guinea pig and wanted to play with her but Brooklynn was only 6 months old so
she couldn't. Next, I had to go home to my mom's house so I put the guinea pig back in her box to
go, but before I left my Gramma asked what I would name her I said I would name her Page. When
we came to a stop at my mom's house, my mom started putting together Page's cage, my brother
Julian helped of course. After the cage was done, I put the things I bought and put them in the cage a
pink igloo, some food and hay, a bed and some water in a water bottle. I put them all in the black
cage. Before that I had to put in bedding it was white at the time, but when we needed more I got

Using Vernacular Architecture And On The Passive...
According to Natural History Museum (2015), modern humans have been around for nearly 200,000
years, and in our journey to the present, humans have learnt many ways to survive. From hygiene to
hyperplasia, people have come to know the best way possible to survive in the living conditions they
lived. To help protect themselves from sun, wind, rain, snow and even enemies, one of the methods
used is what today is called vernacular architecture.
The practice of designing and constructing a building today may seem easy with modern technology
at our finger tips, however 500 years, one can imagine the difficulties, trial and errors the inhabitants
of different geographical locations had to go through just to provide suitable shelter for themselves.
These trail and errors throughout the history have benefited many civilizations and bring forward
bundles of knowledge. For this reason, the objective of this research report is to explore vernacular
architecture and to expand on the passive engineering techniques used in times when technology
was not so readily available as we have today. Also, an analysis of the different lessons learnt from
these techniques will help determine the contribution it has made to sustainable architecture and
awareness.
Vernacular Architecture
What is it?
Vernacular architecture can be described as one of the many methods, which are used in
construction. "Vernacular architecture tends to evolve over time to reflect the environmental,

Analysis Of Nanook Of The North By Robert Faherty
Final Paper Early documentaries, like those done by Robert Flaherty have similarities with the
Italian neorealism films, especially by those of Vittorio De Sicca. De Sica pulled documentary
filming techniques to make his films seem realistic and to almost have a documentary feel to them.
Italian neorealism rejected the opulence of Hollywood and instead only wanted to portray real
people and their struggles. To do that De Sica borrowed some techniques that made Flaherty's films
so successful and seemingly real; like that of the long take, close–ups, and unobtrusive editing. De
Sica wasn't the only one to borrow techniques, Flaherty also fictionalized part of his narrative in
order for it to portray the life he thought was accurate. Both ... Show more content on

We see this in both Nanooks attempt to wrangle the large walrus, which we see in an unedited,
unobstructed view of his attempt to take it on shore to kill and eat. This is a long scene without
obvious editing that shows the entire task of harpooning the walrus and then dragging it ashore. As
well as the window–making scene that the audience sees later. This scene occurs when Nanook and
his family are working on making the igloo and Nannok goes off to carve a large block of ice, as to
act as a window to let in light to the otherwise dark igloo. Once Nanook has this large block of ice
and is attempting to put it into the igloo, cutting the snow around it to make space, and then packing
it back in around the new 'window', this is the long take. It is an unbroken shot showing the viewer a
complex action. We also see other examples of this in some of the scenery shots. Examples of the
Inuit traversing the arctic plane from a wide angle are meant to impress upon the viewer how
impressive the scenery is, and that it is in fact very real and dangerous. Another technique Flaherty
used were close–ups, which are a shot close to the subject of the scene, either human or object.
Flaherty uses these shots to fully immerse the viewer in the film, and to also impress upon the
audience the humanity and relatability of his subjects. We are shown close–ups of mother and child,
the child resting in the back of her coat, sleeping on her shoulder. These shots

because there is not much around to eat or to get . Why americans can eat whatever because we have
so many different climate in the United States where they can get different food from. I know
america has a lot of different kinds of food because we have so many resources that we can get
different kinds of food. Why my evidence supports my answer is because i've read in a book that

Winter Camping Disadvantages
5 Types of Winter Shelters Fit for Camping Enthusiasts
Everyone knows that summer camping is a blast. With great weather, plenty of gorgeous views and
basically every other outdoor enthusiast in the country vying for a camping spot –it can be glorious
but also a bit crowded at times. With winter camping on the other hand, you'll still get the great
views but you'll also have the opportunity to enjoy some solidarity on your travels. However, the
one big difference between summer and winter camping is finding the perfect camp shelter to keep
your group safe and warm.
Tents
When it comes to winter tent camping, you've got 2 main choices for shelter, you can go with a hot
tent or a cold tent. Hot tents are typically made of canvas and designed to accommodate a
woodstove. Great for keeping the heat in and letting moisture out, hot tents are meant to work as a
"base camp" and stay put. Alternatively, a 3–season cold tent is much more portable and ideal for
those who plan to move from place to place during their outdoor excursions. As long as you have
picked a camping site that is safe from high winds, avalanche risks and winter storms – a cold tent
can be made comfortable with a few great camping essentials like a good sleeping bag and a comfy
sleeping pad.
Quinzees
A quinzee is a safe, simple and sturdy shelter that can be made by digging a cave into a mound of
snow. With a bit of practice, digging out a quinzee can become a skill that will really come in handy

means that it has an elevated design, which will promote airflow under the cooler. The Yukon 50
cooler has an integrated fish measuring tool on the lid and a non–slip textured surface on its lid. This
will make it easy to use when you are out on the water and reeling in the big fish. There is also an
oversized drain and a tethered plug so that clean up and draining will be easy tasks to deal with after
a long day out. What Do Owners Say About the Yukon Cooler? In our look at the Yukon cooler
review, we noticed that overall people love it. They have a 4.5–star average rating. You will find that
they are good coolers according to most owners. They say that it is a solid cooler that performs as
well or better than they ever imagined that it could. They also like the Yukon cooler prices that are

Ice Run Review
While likes of Microgaming and NetEnt may take spots one and two when it comes to slot game

From igloos to flipping and flailing fish, the reels are bursting with icy inspired icons that really do
look the part. Again, while it's hardly original, there is no denying that this game is a whole lot of
fun in the looks department.
Looking Inside the Igloo
Within its framework, Ice Run is a pretty conventional game, as it features 5 reels, 3 rows and 25
unfixed paylines. This means that it is pretty easy to get up and running here, especially considering
that the bet per spin falls between 0.01 and 50.00. Looking at what's going to keep a player coming
back to Ice Run, the 400x jackpot isn't to be sneezed at, even if the RTP of the game is a pretty low
93.83%. As far as actual gameplay goes, you should know the drill by know, as it's a case of
securing 3, 4, or 5 symbol combinations from the dozen icons that are in play.
No Playtech release would be quite the same if it didn't come with a barrage of bonus features. The
main bonus is the wild, which is represented by the main fisherman character. This will surely put a
simile on your face when found, as it has the power to snag you a winning combination with relative
ease. What this can also do is lead you to more of the same when the hunter also makes appearance

Research Paper On Inuits
The Inuits live in really harsh conditions in the Arctic. They have lived there for a really long time.
They live in a place called Nunavut. They are brave to live there. They are not able to make wooden
homes, because of their climate region, so they make snow houses called "Igloos". In the summer,
when the snow melts, they cannot make igloos. They live in tent like huts made of animal skins.
Inuit communities are found in the: Northwest Territories, Labrador, and Quebec.
They do not have cars. They use dog sleds to get around. Dog sleds are when they have a sled, with
all of their things they need to transport, and have dogs pull it. They use very strong dogs, which are
huskies. They cannot use dog sleds to go across the Arctic waters.

Nanook of the North Essay
Nanook of the North is an interesting film that documents the lifestyle of an Inuit family in Quebec,
Canada. Robert J. Flaherty, the writer, producer and director of the film makes sure to film every
aspect of the family's daily struggles and duties. With nearly everything but cold weather in limited
supply, it becomes very obvious that every aspect in their lives serves a specific role aimed towards
survival; they have no space extraneous luxuries.
The community as a whole seems to be very amicable, with everybody willingly helping each other

He goes out into the rugged land and hunts down seals, walruses, foxes, and even polar bears with

even decides the where the family will rest for the night. Purveying the snow, he chooses where the
snow is best for building and cuts out the materials for the family. He then lays the heavy snow
bricks one on top of the other, even furnishing the igloo with an ice window. Meanwhile, the women
complete the less rigorous task of filling the holes, and furnishing the inside while the children play

get the most screen time; this is their "domestic sphere" (ibid). Just like a man coming home from
work, Nanook is simply shown as undressing and lying down to rest. But the women are now taking
the active role as caretaker. They are shown boiling the water, washing off the children, and carrying

Taking a Look at the Inuits
Inuits are a community that originated 4000 years ago. The first inuit group is the Paleo–Eskimos.
Inuits live in 53 different Arctic and Northern communities in Canada but also in several Southern
cities. 22% live outside of the Inuits Nunagat (homeland) while the other part lives inside of the
homeland. Pre–Dorset culture is said to begin when the Paleo–Eskimos settled on the islands of the
Canadian archipelago and northern Greenland. They had winter very difficult because at that time,
they had lacked technologies such as boats, dog sleds, skin tents and sources of warmth other than
small fire pits and wood fuels. They have very long winters but only a couple of months of summer .
In fact, it is one of the coldest places on earth and because of this all the Inuit people adapted to the
lifestyle, food, transportation etc. A shelter was needed to keep them warm, and protect them from
the harsh winter weather. The shelter is a snow house which they use in winter and named "igloo".
An igloo is a temporary shelter that is made of snow blocks. They believe in animism which is a
belief that says all living and non–living things have a spirit. These spirits have to be kept happy and
there are several guidelines Inuit people have to follow in order to make the spirits happy.Their
language is Inuktitut which is their traditional language. The Inuits also have an alphabet of their

The Culture Of The Thule Culture
The Netsilik are an indigenous community that are descendants of the Thule culture, they reside
North of Hudson Bay, just above the Arctic circle. They call themselves the Netsilik or "people of
the seal" because of their unusual diet (Young, 1970). In his video Young states that, "The winter
months for the Netsilik people starts in September and last right up until June, during these months
the temperatures can range anywhere from 30–50 degrees below 0" (1970). During the 2–3 months
of warmer weather, "the summer tundra remains wet, since permafrost not far below the surface
prevents drainage" (Netsilik, n.d). This causes the Netsilik to migrate frequently.
Their first encounter of non–natives was in 1890, a meeting that was brief but would provoke
further meetings until the twentieth century. Interaction with other civilizations would only prove to
advance their own, for neighboring communities like the Iglulik introduced them to more advanced
weaponry like the rifle which eventually replaced their standard harpoon; thus making hunting much
easier. Later on in 1920, trading posts were established, this completely changed their economy, for
instead of white fox fur trapping and trade, the Netsilik now would trade for additional items made
by non–natives, including woolen clothing, tobacco, steel traps, fishing nets, canoes, tea, and canvas
tents (Netsilik, n.d). Adding these trading posts not only shows how adaptive the Netsilik are to
other cultures, but it allowed them

Fennec Fox Research Paper
The Fennec Fox lives in a desert environment, where it is very hot in the daytime, but can get very
cold at night. They usually dwell in the deserts in northern Africa and the peninsula of Sinai. The
deserts they are in usually stretch from Morocco, across Egypt, south to north Niger and Sudan, and
east to Kuwait. This magnificent animal has many ways to help it survive. There are many ways the
body saves the Fennec Fox, one being their built–in temperature regulators. The Fennec Fox has
abnormally large ears for an animal its size, and they are not just for show. They are actually
temperature regulators, which means they can control the foxes body heat. This comes in handy
when the fox is to hot while hunting. The ears work by releasing

Advantages Of Living In Igloos
College students are unique people. The majority of incoming college freshman are young and
inexperienced human beings who just got pushed out of their nest by their eager mother birds.
College is like getting pushed out of a nest: many will either learn to fly or will fall hard to the
ground. Although the ground may be a nice place to settle, earning a degree allows people to fly and
explore the world of furthering their education. What about the college students who are being
pushed out of a nest into the freezing cold of Alaska? With living expenses being so high, it's no
wonder a mother bird would push her baby birds out to save money on the monthly gas and electric
bills. The best solution to battle the high cost of living in Alaska for students is that more Alaskan
college students should be living in igloos this coming winter. Incoming college freshman in Alaska
should be required to live in igloos. The average costs of room and board, tuition, books and
everything in college is outrageously expensive! Most college freshmen prefer to live on campus
throughout their first year of college, but what if there was an easier, cost–effective way to live near
campus without the expenses of living in a dormitory? Fortunately, there is plenty of snow during
the winter months to build igloo domes. An igloo is typically structured out of blocks of ice and
snow. This was the primary method of shelter most commonly used by the Alaskan indigenous
population before civilization and

Personal Narrative: The Tell-Tale Heart
Watching the men eat the meat they hunted yesterday, I wonder what would have happened if they
were in my place. My mother and I barely have an entire meal compared to what the men are eating.
As the day went by, I had to say something, I had to speak up, but not for me, for my mother and
father's legacy. When all the men that were on the council were together, I gathered up the courage
and walked into their igloo. I told them my point of view and my problems, but not as Keesh, I
spoke as the son of the greatest hunter to ever walk on the rim of the polar sea, Bok. My father died
trying to save this entire village and everyone seems to forget that I am his son and that my mother
is his wife. I have dealt with a lot of hardships since

Comparing the Inuits and the North-West People Essay
Comparing the Inuits and the north–west people
We have been studying the people of the North West and Inuits. In this essay I will describe their
differences and explain why they are different. They have a large variety of differences which had a
large effect on lifestyles.
Housing
The Inuits lives in snow houses known as Igloos. They houses were made out of snow as it was
plentiful in the area they lived in. The snow was many metres thick so it was ideal for insulating
Igloos; this meant they kept at a comfortable 16°C especially when the females cooked food.
The North–West people lived in large wooden houses. Wood was the ideal building resource as it
was easily available from the woodland and forests surrounding them. It was also ... Show more

This also meant they didn't have to spend most of their time hunting and gathering food.
The difference in climate between the Inuits and the North–West people was due to their position on
the Earth. They both lived in totally different environments and this also controlled other factors
such as what they had available to eat. Each group adapted to their living environment and habitat so
to them their life was normal. It would be difficult for them to survive in each other's environments
as they had grew up and learnt how to survive in the area they lived in.
Hunting
The Inuit people had to go out and hunt for food; this was the job for the men. In the summer when
the ice melted they hunted from boats known as Kayaks. The kayak could move efficiently through
the water so the hunter could get close to the prey without being heard. They usually hunted for
ringed seals as it was an all –year round mammal so it could be hunted in the winter as well as in the
summer. It also provided essential vitamins and minerals which were found in fruits, but as they
didn't have fruits in their habitat they had to rely on seals. The Inuit hunter would use a sharp
harpoon to stab the seal; he would then drag it up and take it inland. Caribou and whale was also
hunted for their skin and certain parts of their bodies which would make good tools for carving in
their spare time.
For the north–west people, the ocean was the major source of food

Personal Narrative: Igloo In A Small Neighborhood

Igloo in a Small Neighborhood As a child the best thing in the world is hearing the word snow day
when you are half awake in the morning. A lot of children just sleep in and watch cartoons in their
warm cozy homes, but I was in an all–boys neighborhood, so there was no way I would be able to
sleep in without being disturbed.
When I was eleven years old I woke up and looked outside my window where I saw snow glistening
everywhere. All the cars were covered in snow and so were the house. My neighbor Wayne had a
plow so he got on his tractor and pushed all the snow in front of my cousins' house. Most of us
started climbing the giant pile of snow, trying to be king of

Igloos Research Paper
Have you ever wondered about how it would feel to live in an igloo, and have to constantly travel
and move with a nomadic tribe? If you're like me, than you probably have. Igloos have always been
interesting to me, from their dome shape, to the people behind them, I've always wanted to learn
more about igloos. While researching, I found may interesting facts. For example, the Inuit didn't
have a formal marriage ceremony. The construction of igloos had to be simple because the Inuit
people were nomadic. The Inuit people had to build the igloo around them, and relied on body heat
to keep themselves warm because they ran out of wood. One reason they ran out of wood was
probably because they made some of their homes with the wood, along with stone

Analysis Of Sylvia Plath 's Poem ' Sheep Of Fog '
––a short story written after Sylvia Plath 's poem "Sheep In Fog"
Sylvia Plath was a good woman and very gorgeous, one day who fell into a trench of depression, but
continues living her life with feelings of depression. In many ways, she was like a grateful, dead
flower in the garden. Solitary and pessimistic, she was full of bad intentions where she had
attempted suicide many times. She had exemplified herself as a slow horse's movement, and her
writing was full of darkness and gloom due to rational isolation and threatening death. She believed
in betrayal, in disappointing everyone around her, in hard work, and in the features of simplicity and
multifaceted imageries. Like a death flower, Ms. Plath was also worried about her desolation. At the
same time, she was very passionate for death. In a foggy December, near the mountains, there were
herds of sheep who were walking down the hill. They were eating green grass in the cold and within
the white smoke, where everything seemed so gentle and serene. One day, I saw Ms. Plath riding a
horse down the hill as the cold breeze was hitting her skin, her hair was flying all over her face, and
enjoying the view around her. That's where she also saw the clouds from the peak during her horse
ride where the Great Salt Lake in which the water was freezing ice, and the penguins were walking
in the snow near the igloo house, where a lot of houses seemed like no one had lived there for
centuries. At the igloo house, there were no

Difference Between Inuit Hada And Iroquois
What's the difference
By:Yesenia Torres Flores
How are the Inuit,Haida, and iroquois different and what do they have alike?
Well they're not that different they eat the same thing, but another this is their art is very different
they have different styles, but they do have something in common. I will talk about the difference of
the Inuit, Haida, and the Iroquois. I will also be talking about the things they have in common. The
first thing, that they have in common is that they all live in Canada. The Inuits live in the Northern
Canada, the Haida lives in Queen Charlotte island, and last but not least we have the Iroquois which
lives in the South of Great Lakes. Which all these are in Canada, but the South of Great Lakes is in
the middle of Canada and England. I know this from the website (Website) This one of the things
they have in common, but this isn't the only thing they have in common. They have the thing they eat.
But we'll get there later. But for now we're going to talk about something that they have different. ...

Patrick Poib's Igloos
Patrick Poib is a fun loving little polar bear. Patrick lives in Greenland in the icy cold tundra with his
mother Polly Poib, and his dad, Pete Poib. In their little igloo they play around, eat and sleep, but
when they are not in their igloo they are out cloud gazing, on the weekends. They always eat either
fresh caught fish for all of their meals, or they eat yummy Eskimos that hunt caribous. Polly and
Pete have the same job, they're igloo builders. Polly designs the houses, and Pete builds them.
Patrick goes to school and walks home or takes the sled with his friend Linda the lemming. The
Poibs, at the end of the day, meet up in their igloo and eat lunch all together.
One day a strange thing happened, more than strange, it was almost something that has never
happened in Greenland; Patrick's house started to melt. It was during summer, which is not very hot
though, but still sunny, but this has never happened before. Greenland's normal temperature outside
is –27° Celsius to 5° Celsius; it is always cold! Now the sun is getting even stronger, and it has
reached the highest it has ever been in Greenland! It was during the night when Patrick's igloo
started melting, the first sign of it was the water dripping from the ceiling; it only dripped on
Patrick, but he ignored it. The next night Patrick was soaking wet and his home was wearing out and
barely had a ceiling anymore; the Poib family woke up in the middle of the night, and saw the dark
sky and the dwarf trees surrounding

Amundsen and his men learned many things with their expedition to the South Pole. Amundsen was
a Norwegian explorer; he was going to the North Pole, however, Robert Peary beat him there.
Amundsen decided to change his plans and go to the South Pole. Amundsen discovered the North–
West Passage. Amundsen wrote in his diary saying,"'As for the tent, with regard to shape and size it
is comfortable but it is too susceptible to the wind'"(Alexander). This quote shows that Amundsen
learned that when going to the South Pole he would need wind resistant tents for himself and his
crew. To keep warm when they slept; otherwise, they would freeze. With him discovering that he
needs a better tent made him look into better polar equipment. With Amundsen learning,

Igloo History

  • 1. Igloo History Igloo, also spelled iglu, also called aputiak, igloo [Credit: © Fred Bruemmer]temporary winter home or hunting–ground dwelling of Canadian and Greenland Inuit (Eskimos). The term igloo, or iglu, from Eskimo igdlu ("house"), is related to Iglulik, a town, and Iglulirmiut, an Inuit people, both on an island of the same name. The igloo, usually made from blocks of snow and dome–shaped, is used only in the area between the Mackenzie River delta and Labrador where, in the summer, Inuit live in sealskin or, more recently, cloth tents. To build the igloo, the builder takes a deep snowdrift of fine–grained, compact snow and cuts it into blocks with a snow knife, a swordlike instrument originally made of bone but now usually of metal. Each block ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 2. Copper Mountain: A Short Story It was a sunny Colorado morning. My dad and I were taking our annual hut trip; however, we had better planning because this was our third trip. We began the morning like any other day; we got up, gathered our gear and rushed out the door, excited to start the day. As we were driving up the twisting roads in the mountains, we made a quick side stop to get some breakfast. "Do you think this will be an easy hike?" I looked at him with inquiring eyes. "This is the biggest climb we've done, but we know what to do this time around," my dad said, never taking his eyes off the road. We continued driving, and after what seemed like an eternity, we finally arrived at the base of Copper Mountain. We were giddy with excitement, and getting ready took a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... "Daaaaaad, shouldn't we have found the hut by now?" "Don't worry Caleb, its right around this bend," said dad, but I could see that he was just as worried as I was. We kept going. It snowed about a foot in under and hour, which made following the path impossible. We were heading in what we thought was the right direction and stumbled on to a trail. As luck would have it, we made a circle and had crossed the trail we had just broken. After about another hour of wandering aimlessly with enough visibility to see three feet, we were planning on making a snow cave. "Let's walk around the ridge one more time and see if we can see anything!" my dad shouted through the wind. We slowly pulled ourselves through the snow for fifteen minutes, only hoping to catch a glimpse of the hut. After what seemed like an eternity, we crossed over the ridge and lo and behold there was the hut. The scene was just beautiful, the hut looked nice and cozy tucked into some trees, with a warm, inviting light casting through the windows. We let out a few victory obscurities and headed toward the hut, anticipating a nice warm meal and a bed. We finally stepped on to the porch of the hut. We got to the door and it is ... • 3. Symbolism In The Wizard's Tide The story "The Wizard's Tide" takes place during the Great Depression. The Great Depression was an era of time in the US when the economy crashed after years of prosperity. People who had once been living in large houses with many servants and extravagant parties had to adjust to a much simpler lifestyle. Many people lost their jobs, and were forced to downsize their houses and sell many of their possessions. Faced with constant stress, many people during this time couldn't cope with the sudden change very well and had major personality changes, usually similar to the ones seen in the stages of grief. Some people, such as Teddy's father, are in depression, and try to hide emotions and sadly reflect on the state of things or try to hide emotions through drinking as a way of trying to cope. Others, such as Teddy's mother, release their anger on others and try to find someone or something to blame for the depression. The Great Depression has a huge impact on the personalities of the characters in this book, and dictates the events we see take place. The beach is a major symbol in the story "The Wizard's Tide". While Teddy's family is at the beach, everyone is happy. In this place, despite all the hardships that they have gone through, they still find peace on this place. The shoreline represents family and the bonds the family has together, while the water represents life as a whole. Out in the water, many dangerous things can happen. If you're not a strong swimmer, you risk ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Comparing The Inuit And Haida People Inuit and Haida The Inuit and the Haida people can be very different at times. But they also can be the same. The Inuits live in the Arctic and the Haida live in the forest. The Haida group also puts underwater traps in lakes and rivers to trap fish. They also both gather nuts, berries, and eggs. They use tools that are unique to them. The challenges that the Inuit people face are that they have a chance of crushing, their ships when they go whale hunting because of the icebergs. A challenge that the Haida people have is that they are chopping the trees down they can be crushed. Another challenge that the Inuit have people face is that if they don't get warm then they can freeze to death. Sometimes they face not even having food because it goes away from both tribes. Another thing for the Inuit people is that they can get their boat sank because of big walrice. Also they have to get it before it goes underwater or else we are doomed because they have no food. ... • 5. The Inuit People: Eskimo Fight For Life According to the text, culture refers to the ways of acting and thinking, as well as the material objects that in harmony form a people's way of life *. The physical environment of the Artic strongly influences the culture surrounding the Inuit people, mirroring a hunter and gathers' society, as shown in the film, Eskimo Fight for Life. The Inuit peoples shown in the film live in the Artic, where temperatures average –30 degrees Celsius and the land is barren. This extreme weather greatly impacts both the material and non–material culture of their society to ensure survival. For instance, this barren landscape forces the Inuit to make igloos out of snow in order to insulate themselves from the harsh winds, resulting in a community effort ... • 6. Designing A Quality Product For The Longest Ice Retention When you sit and see the outdoor industry being flooded with all these new cooler brands, you wonder what really sets the coolers apart? After all they are still just and insulated box or cup that keeps you drink cold. The main difference between the different brands is the type of insulation or the quality of the seals and workmanship to make a quality product that allows little energy to escape. There are a few questions that we have that we hope to find the answer too hear they are in the following few sentences. With the high prices of these coolers, what is so special besides the quality? Does the type of insulation really affect the performance of his cooler? We are about to find out which cooler is the best to buy if you are willing to splurge and spend the money. To test this question of what brand and insulation type allows for the longest ice retention, we are going to test six different brands coolers and see what performs the best. The way that we are going to test the ice retention part is simple. We will fill each cooler with the same amount of ice by volume of all of the coolers. For example, if we have a 60 quart cooler and we fill it with 60 pounds of crushed ice, then we would fill the one gallon cooler with one pound of crushed ice. This allows for their to be a constant. We will then leave all of the coolers that we are testing in the same place. Next, to check the temperature of the inside of the cooler we will open the coolers at the same time every ... • 8. Using Vernacular Architecture And On The Passive... According to Natural History Museum (2015), modern humans have been around for nearly 200,000 years, and in our journey to the present, humans have learnt many ways to survive. From hygiene to hyperplasia, people have come to know the best way possible to survive in the living conditions they lived. To help protect themselves from sun, wind, rain, snow and even enemies, one of the methods used is what today is called vernacular architecture. The practice of designing and constructing a building today may seem easy with modern technology at our finger tips, however 500 years, one can imagine the difficulties, trial and errors the inhabitants of different geographical locations had to go through just to provide suitable shelter for themselves. These trail and errors throughout the history have benefited many civilizations and bring forward bundles of knowledge. For this reason, the objective of this research report is to explore vernacular architecture and to expand on the passive engineering techniques used in times when technology was not so readily available as we have today. Also, an analysis of the different lessons learnt from these techniques will help determine the contribution it has made to sustainable architecture and awareness. Vernacular Architecture What is it? Vernacular architecture can be described as one of the many methods, which are used in construction. "Vernacular architecture tends to evolve over time to reflect the environmental, cultural ... • 11. Analysis Of Nanook Of The North By Robert Faherty Final Paper Early documentaries, like those done by Robert Flaherty have similarities with the Italian neorealism films, especially by those of Vittorio De Sicca. De Sica pulled documentary filming techniques to make his films seem realistic and to almost have a documentary feel to them. Italian neorealism rejected the opulence of Hollywood and instead only wanted to portray real people and their struggles. To do that De Sica borrowed some techniques that made Flaherty's films so successful and seemingly real; like that of the long take, close–ups, and unobtrusive editing. De Sica wasn't the only one to borrow techniques, Flaherty also fictionalized part of his narrative in order for it to portray the life he thought was accurate. Both ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... We see this in both Nanooks attempt to wrangle the large walrus, which we see in an unedited, unobstructed view of his attempt to take it on shore to kill and eat. This is a long scene without obvious editing that shows the entire task of harpooning the walrus and then dragging it ashore. As well as the window–making scene that the audience sees later. This scene occurs when Nanook and his family are working on making the igloo and Nannok goes off to carve a large block of ice, as to act as a window to let in light to the otherwise dark igloo. Once Nanook has this large block of ice and is attempting to put it into the igloo, cutting the snow around it to make space, and then packing it back in around the new 'window', this is the long take. It is an unbroken shot showing the viewer a complex action. We also see other examples of this in some of the scenery shots. Examples of the Inuit traversing the arctic plane from a wide angle are meant to impress upon the viewer how impressive the scenery is, and that it is in fact very real and dangerous. Another technique Flaherty used were close–ups, which are a shot close to the subject of the scene, either human or object. Flaherty uses these shots to fully immerse the viewer in the film, and to also impress upon the audience the humanity and relatability of his subjects. We are shown close–ups of mother and child, the child resting in the back of her coat, sleeping on her shoulder. These shots ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

With great weather, plenty of gorgeous views and basically every other outdoor enthusiast in the country vying for a camping spot –it can be glorious but also a bit crowded at times. With winter camping on the other hand, you'll still get the great views but you'll also have the opportunity to enjoy some solidarity on your travels. Tents When it comes to winter tent camping, you've got 2 main choices for shelter, you can go with a hot tent or a cold tent. Hot tents are typically made of canvas and designed to accommodate a woodstove. Great for keeping the heat in and letting moisture out, hot tents are meant to work as a "base camp" and stay put. Alternatively, a 3–season cold tent is much more portable and ideal for those who plan to move from place to place during their outdoor excursions. As long as you have picked a camping site that is safe from high winds, avalanche risks and winter storms – a cold tent can be made comfortable with a few great camping essentials like a good sleeping bag and a comfy sleeping pad. Ice Run Research Paper Ice Run Review While likes of Microgaming and NetEnt may take spots one and two when it comes to slot game software popularity, there is no denying that Playtech is nipping at their heels. What has gone a long way in solidifying Playtech as a force to reckoned with within the world of online casino play is the raft of entertaining games that they've been able to produce. Ensuring that Playtech maintains its "cool" image is a game that is certainly looking to lower the temperature in the best way possible. Taking place within what appears to be the far reaches of the Antarctic, Ice Run puts players in the chilly shoes of an ice fisherman. From igloos to flipping and flailing fish, the reels are bursting with icy inspired icons that really do look the part. Again, while it's hardly original, there is no denying that this game is a whole lot of fun in the looks department. Looking Inside the Igloo Within its framework, Ice Run is a pretty conventional game, as it features 5 reels, 3 rows and 25 unfixed paylines. This means that it is pretty easy to get up and running here, especially considering that the bet per spin falls between 0.01 and 50.00. Looking at what's going to keep a player coming back to Ice Run, the 400x jackpot isn't to be sneezed at, even if the RTP of the game is a pretty low 93.83%. As far as actual gameplay goes, you should know the drill by know, as it's a case of securing 3, 4, or 5 symbol combinations from the dozen icons that are in play. No Playtech release would be quite the same if it didn't come with a barrage of bonus features. The main bonus is the wild, which is represented by the main fisherman character. This will surely put a simile on your face when found, as it has the power to snag you a winning combination with relative ease. What this can also do is lead you to more of the same when the hunter also makes appearance on the centre ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

In the summer, when the snow melts, they cannot make igloos. They live in tent like huts made of animal skins. Inuit communities are found in the: Northwest Territories, Labrador, and Quebec. With nearly everything but cold weather in limited supply, it becomes very obvious that every aspect in their lives serves a specific role aimed towards survival; they have no space extraneous luxuries. The community as a whole seems to be very amicable, with everybody willingly helping each other out. Purveying the snow, he chooses where the snow is best for building and cuts out the materials for the family. He then lays the heavy snow bricks one on top of the other, even furnishing the igloo with an ice window. Meanwhile, the women complete the less rigorous task of filling the holes, and furnishing the inside while the children play around and sled down the hill. The inside of the igloo seems to be the one setting where the women get the most screen time; this is their "domestic sphere" (ibid). Just like a man coming home from work, Nanook is simply shown as undressing and lying down to rest. But the women are now taking the active role as caretaker. They are shown boiling the water, washing off the children, and carrying them and the puppies in their hoods. • 22. Taking a Look at the Inuits Inuits are a community that originated 4000 years ago. The first inuit group is the Paleo–Eskimos. Inuits live in 53 different Arctic and Northern communities in Canada but also in several Southern cities. 22% live outside of the Inuits Nunagat (homeland) while the other part lives inside of the homeland. Pre–Dorset culture is said to begin when the Paleo–Eskimos settled on the islands of the Canadian archipelago and northern Greenland. They had winter very difficult because at that time, they had lacked technologies such as boats, dog sleds, skin tents and sources of warmth other than small fire pits and wood fuels. They have very long winters but only a couple of months of summer . In fact, it is one of the coldest places on earth and because of this all the Inuit people adapted to the lifestyle, food, transportation etc. A shelter was needed to keep them warm, and protect them from the harsh winter weather. The shelter is a snow house which they use in winter and named "igloo". An igloo is a temporary shelter that is made of snow blocks. • 24. The Culture Of The Thule Culture The Netsilik are an indigenous community that are descendants of the Thule culture, they reside North of Hudson Bay, just above the Arctic circle. They call themselves the Netsilik or "people of the seal" because of their unusual diet (Young, 1970). In his video Young states that, "The winter months for the Netsilik people starts in September and last right up until June, during these months the temperatures can range anywhere from 30–50 degrees below 0" (1970). During the 2–3 months of warmer weather, "the summer tundra remains wet, since permafrost not far below the surface prevents drainage" (Netsilik, n.d). This causes the Netsilik to migrate frequently. Their first encounter of non–natives was in 1890, a meeting that was brief but would provoke further meetings until the twentieth century. Interaction with other civilizations would only prove to advance their own, for neighboring communities like the Iglulik introduced them to more advanced weaponry like the rifle which eventually replaced their standard harpoon; thus making hunting much easier. Later on in 1920, trading posts were established, this completely changed their economy, for instead of white fox fur trapping and trade, the Netsilik now would trade for additional items made by non–natives, including woolen clothing, tobacco, steel traps, fishing nets, canoes, tea, and canvas tents (Netsilik, n.d). • 26. Advantages Of Living In Igloos College students are unique people. The majority of incoming college freshman are young and inexperienced human beings who just got pushed out of their nest by their eager mother birds. College is like getting pushed out of a nest: many will either learn to fly or will fall hard to the ground. Although the ground may be a nice place to settle, earning a degree allows people to fly and explore the world of furthering their education. What about the college students who are being pushed out of a nest into the freezing cold of Alaska? With living expenses being so high, it's no wonder a mother bird would push her baby birds out to save money on the monthly gas and electric bills. The best solution to battle the high cost of living in Alaska for students is that more Alaskan college students should be living in igloos this coming winter. Incoming college freshman in Alaska should be required to live in igloos. The average costs of room and board, tuition, books and everything in college is outrageously expensive! Most college freshmen prefer to live on campus throughout their first year of college, but what if there was an easier, cost–effective way to live near campus without the expenses of living in a dormitory? In this essay I will describe their differences and explain why they are different. They have a large variety of differences which had a large effect on lifestyles. Housing The Inuits lives in snow houses known as Igloos. They houses were made out of snow as it was plentiful in the area they lived in. The snow was many metres thick so it was ideal for insulating Igloos; this meant they kept at a comfortable 16°C especially when the females cooked food. The North–West people lived in large wooden houses. Wood was the ideal building resource as it was easily available from the woodland and forests surrounding them. It was also ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This also meant they didn't have to spend most of their time hunting and gathering food. The difference in climate between the Inuits and the North–West people was due to their position on the Earth. They both lived in totally different environments and this also controlled other factors such as what they had available to eat. Each group adapted to their living environment and habitat so to them their life was normal. It would be difficult for them to survive in each other's environments as they had grew up and learnt how to survive in the area they lived in. Hunting The Inuit people had to go out and hunt for food; this was the job for the men. In the summer when the ice melted they hunted from boats known as Kayaks. The kayak could move efficiently through the water so the hunter could get close to the prey without being heard. They usually hunted for ringed seals as it was an all –year round mammal so it could be hunted in the winter as well as in the summer. It also provided essential vitamins and minerals which were found in fruits, but as they didn't have fruits in their habitat they had to rely on seals. The Inuit hunter would use a sharp harpoon to stab the seal; he would then drag it up and take it inland. Caribou and whale was also hunted for their skin and certain parts of their bodies which would make good tools for carving in their spare time. In many ways, she was like a grateful, dead flower in the garden. Solitary and pessimistic, she was full of bad intentions where she had attempted suicide many times. She had exemplified herself as a slow horse's movement, and her writing was full of darkness and gloom due to rational isolation and threatening death. She believed in betrayal, in disappointing everyone around her, in hard work, and in the features of simplicity and multifaceted imageries. Like a death flower, Ms. Plath was also worried about her desolation. At the same time, she was very passionate for death. In a foggy December, near the mountains, there were herds of sheep who were walking down the hill. They were eating green grass in the cold and within the white smoke, where everything seemed so gentle and serene. One day, I saw Ms. Plath riding a horse down the hill as the cold breeze was hitting her skin, her hair was flying all over her face, and enjoying the view around her. That's where she also saw the clouds from the peak during her horse ride where the Great Salt Lake in which the water was freezing ice, and the penguins were walking in the snow near the igloo house, where a lot of houses seemed like no one had lived there for centuries.
