* Reading - It is very important that reading is promoted at home. Create a time when your child can
spend at least 15 minutes of reading. Furthermore, ensure that the environment where he/she is reading is
comfortable, has proper lighting, and quiet. Knowledge is gained and imagination is brought to life
through reading.
* Mathematics - Calculation Nation is a math website created by the National Council of Teachers of
Mathematics (NCTM) that provides an entertaining environment for students to learn mathematics. It
offers students the opportunity to challenge opponents from anywhere in the world or challenge themselves
while investigating and practicing mathematical concepts and fundamental skills. To join Calculation
Nation, go to: http://calculationnation.nctm.org/.

All classes: As we continue with our standardized testing this week, it is a good time to take a look at what
food our children are eating. Make sure that your child is eating healthy snacks and meals to improve
concentration in school and overall health. If your child really wants something sweet to eat at recess, a piece
of fruit could be a better choice than cookies and candy. Also make sure that your child gets enough sleep.
Recording their favorite television show may be a good alternative to allowing them to watch it during the
week. Then you can watch it together sometime during the weekend.

* Language Arts 7th/8th - This week, we will be introduced to the world of blogging. The more we write
the better we will become. Students will be required to return an Acceptable Use Policy form or AUP. This
will be handed out this week.
* Study Tips -Give your whole attention to your study. Find a quiet spot to work. Bring all of your study
aids: notes, books, a pencil, some paper. Sit upright in a chair at a desk or table. Turn off the television.
Let yourself concentrate.
