Reading: The next time your child wants to see a movie based on a book, have him/her first read the book,
and then see the movie. Later, discuss which he/she preferred, the book or movie, and have him/her explain
why. You also can compare and contrast the two. You and your child will be surprised with what you
discover.
Mathematics: Did you learn Order of Operations through PEMDAS - parenthesis first, then exponents,
next multiplication, followed by division, then addition, and finally subtraction? This rule has changed.
Today, you still complete all work within the parenthesis/brackets and then the exponents. However, now
you multiply and divide in order from left to right and then add and subtract in order from left to right. Keep
this in mind the next time your child asks for assistance on a problem consisting of many operations.

Science:
-If you are wondering where you can go with the family on a weekend, check out the California Science
Center (www.californiasciencecenter.org).
-To see how Science is related to everything we do, when your children are reading for the other classes and
they come across a Science-related word, have them write it on a separate piece of paper.
Religion:
-We often use bibles in our Religion class to discuss different scripture passages. If you do not have a bible at
home, you can find one online at
www.usccb.org/nab/bible or www.biblegateway.com (for bibles in different languages).

region each colony is in.
