  3. 3. What is cloud? Cloud computing is the use of computing resources(hardware and software) that are delivered as a serviceover a network (typically the Internet). The namecomes from the use of a cloud-shaped symbol as anabstraction for the complex infrastructure it containsin system diagrams. Cloud computing entrusts remoteservices with a users data, software and computation.3

  7. 7.  Security could improve due to centralization of data, increasedsecurity-focused resources, etc., but concerns can persist aboutloss of control over certain sensitive data, and the lack of securityfor stored kernels. Security is often as good as or better thanother traditional systems, in part because providers are able todevote resources to solving security issues that many customerscannot afford. However, the complexity of security is greatlyincreased when data is distributed over a wider area or greaternumber of devices and in multi-tenant systems that are beingshared by unrelated users. In addition, user access tosecurity audit logs may be difficult or impossible. Private cloudinstallations are in part motivated by users desire to retaincontrol over the infrastructure and avoid losing control ofinformation security.7

  9. 9.  Performance is monitored, and consistent andloosely coupled architectures are constructedusing web services as the system interface. Maintenance of cloud computing applications iseasier, because they do not need to be installed oneach users computer and can be accessed fromdifferent places.9
