This presentation summarizes a student project to design and build a solar-powered sand sieving machine. The machine uses a solar panel to power a motor that drives a reciprocating sieve to separate sand by grain size. It was created to reduce labor costs and use a renewable energy source. The presentation includes sections on the abstract, introduction, history, components, construction, working principle, advantages, applications, and conclusions. The project aims to automate sand sieving in a sustainable way.

3. ABSTRACT
The aim of this project is to design and fabrication of the solar
based sand sieving machine.
Sand sieving machine has the function to sieve sand and stone
that mixed together.
The sand and the stone cannot process further if they mix.
The results of this design obtained the best concept of sand
sieving machine in terms of efficiency, energy, and flexibility.
From this, it can be concluded that the design of this sand sieve
will environmentally friendly and bring many benefits, is
positive and very good to continue.
4. INTRODUCTION
Sand is a basic element of every constructional work, sands
need to be separated from unwanted particles, stones and other large
particles before it is put to use as it usually comes in mixture. Similarly,
different size of sand is used in different stages of construction i.e.,
size of sand for construction work is slightly coarse whereas that used
for plaster work is fine. Therefore, sands need to be screened properly
for various stages of construction.so the sand sieving machine can be
used to screen sand properly as they are comfortable and easy to use.
Besides this, there are many designs such as rotatory sand screening
machine, vibratory sand screening machine, sand screening cum
washing machine.
5. HISTORY
In earlier days to to produce fine sand it requires more
man power. So, it takes more time for same quantity of
fine sand as compared to this latest mechanism.
9. CONSTRUCTION
• SOLAR PANEL
solar panel uses photovoltaic effects
to convert light directly into
electricity.
SPECIFICATIONS:
power:10W,
voltage:12V,and
short circuit current:0.8A
10. • BATTERY
A battery which converts chemical energy into electrical energy is called
battery
The combination of several cells connected electrically (usually in series) in a
common container is known as battery. In general the electrical connections
between various cells are made internally.
SPECIFICATIONS:
Voltage:12V
Capacity:2Ah
Lead Acid Battery
11. • BATTERY
The e.m.f. of a battery is equal to the cell e.m.f. multiplied by the number of cells, For example a battery
has 6 cells of each 2 volts e.m.f. connected in series as shown in Fig. 5.2 (b), then the e.m.f. of a battery
is equal to 6x 2 = 12 volts.
CELLS CONNECTED IN SIRIES
12. • MOTOR
Motor is a device which converts electrical energy into mechanical
energy. In this Permanent Magnet DC motor is used.
SPECIFICATIONS:
Speed:30 rpm
Current:0.6A
13. • ALUMINIUM FRAME
It is a structure made of aluminium which is used to mount all the
components on it and holds sieve. It gives support and strength to
the system.
14. • SLIDING CHANNEL
As the mesh frame must be coupled to its holding frame and moves freely and
horizontally through motor coupling devices, smooth sliding channels must be used
and they must be fixed to the both sides of mesh holding frame.
The mechanism of sliding channel can be divided in to two main parts, one is fixed
body and the other is the moving body, the fixed body must be fixed to the fixed metal
frame and moving body can be fixed to the movable frame.
15. • SIEVE MESH
A sieve analysis is a practice or procedure used (commonly used in civil
engineering) to assess the particle size distribution of a granular material.
16. • CRANK MECHANISM
A mechanism which converts rotatory motion into
reciprocating motion and vice-versa.
17. • CONSTRUCTION
A filter frame is mounted on sliding channels. This channels are
attached with structure so that frame can have smooth horizontal
motion on structure.
Filter frame is connected to rotating crank shaft(powered by
motor) with the help connected rod, this arrangement is called
single slider crank mechanism. Then solar panel is connected to run
the DC motor in between battery backup arrangement also placed.
18. WORKING PRINCIPLE
When sand filter is activated, motor starts to rotate in such a way that
rotational motion of the motor is converted to reciprocating motion which is
transferred to filter of our sand separator. When unfiltered sand are drop on
the filter, due to continuous reciprocating movement of filter, it starts to filter
the sand. These filtered sand of fine grains are fallen into the diagonal sheet
and due to gravity, fine grain sands are collected in a collector.
20. ADVANTAGES
Simple construction.
Easily operated.
Reduces man power.
Unskilled person’s can also work on this machine.
Free running cost because it uses free source of energy i.e solar
energy.
Reduces the labour cost.
Large amount of fine sand is produced in less time period
21. APPLICATIONS
Construction Fields-Road construction,building construction etc.
FUTURE SCOPE
The project can be made for higher capacities by
increasing the dimension and improving the design aspects.
Based on the required sand particle size, the mesh can be
changed. The machine can be operated using solar energy
also which is economically useful.
22. CONCLUSTION
The project work "SOLAR SAND SIEVING MECHANISM" designed and
developed successfully, for the demonstration purpose a small prototype
module is constructed & results are found to be satisfactorily.
Since it is a prototype module, much amount is not invested, the whole
machine is constructed with locally available components, especially the
mechanical components used in this project work are procured from
mechanical fabricators, lot of modifications must be carried out in design & is
essential to make it as real working system.
Hence, the machine is to be enhanced further for obtaining better results.
The prototype module constructed for the demonstration purpose can be
said as automatic, but it is not fully automated, to make it fully automated
after screening the sand, the sieve must be tilted in opposite direction by
which unwanted sand can be delivered in other direction automatically. This
we will try to implement in our future work.
