Dear PGPEX Class of 2019
You were twelfth and soon it will be teens. We will look back at the twelfth with pride, of course, but more
with bit of nostalgia at having enjoyed our last chance to be considered innocent and pardoned for our
follies, and chance to be idealist almost bordering on naivetĂŠ, as we tiptoe into the world of adolescence and
impending adulthood- world would be far less charitable then. It is about the twelfth batch and twelfth year
of programme. You were sugar and spice; I answered Mohit when he asked how I describe the batch.
So many faculties came and told me, it is a fantastic batch. They are so enthusiastic, energetic, inquisitive,
and excited. There were few who told me that students were less prepared in the classes compared to earlier
batches. The batch did well in academics, in corporate interactions and competitions, in sports field, and in job placements. It took many initiatives
to make programme stronger by deepening alumni engagements, corporate engagements, and social media presence. Be it ‘Homecoming’, thematic
webinars, richer ‘Lattice’, many of you made a difference. Few of you won prestigious competitions and gained recognition such as social start up idea
of Swakrishi was selected among impactful ideas in TSEC (Tata Social enterprise challenge), or 2nd position won by PGPEX team in national level
analytics cum marketing case competition organized by PWC USA, or live project on AI at HDFC, or case writing with IIM CRC, and the list goes
on. Many of you volunteered in the committees strengthening our processes of admissions, placements, programme branding, immersion, and so on.
As a lasting legacy I am sure you would also leave a comprehensive process document for the batches to come so that they do not have to reinvent
the wheel.
At the programme front it was an exciting year as we saw the precocious child coming into its own. It is all set to assume a new identity of
MBA, turning in the process from a diploma to a degree. It sure would put us in the league of globally recognized one year MBA programmes. It
registered the biggest jump worldwide in the global FT rankings from 78 to 49 this year. The programme went through extensive review for renewal
of accreditations conferred by EQUS and AMBA, AASCB follows. There were few challenges – the immersion crisis, GST confusion, IIM act and
its implication for the programme, degree name, changing leadership at the top, and so on. It is to the credit of mettle of all involved that we could
overcome most of these at right time. A few important ideas such as mandatory live projects, engagement with alumni on projects, engagement with
IIMC incubation park, alumni reunion, ’Homecoming’, reformed admission process, and management game made significant progress towards full
scale implementation. More remains to be done!
As you all step out into your rejuvenated corporate careers, we at the institute look forward to welcome our valued alumni, the class of 2019, many
times over at the campus and in many fora outside it. You become the flag bearers who would bring laurels that all of us at campus can cherish and
feel pride of having contributed to your successful journey in a small way.
Thank you and All the Best,
Prof. Amit Dhiman

2018-19 has been a very special and significant year for us.
Down the years, Batch 12 will become part of PGPEX history for being the
first batch to be granted the “Master of Business Administration” on the
successful completion of one year full time programme for executives. Also,
how can we forget the leap in FT rankings!
Now all the pains undertaken throughout the year – rigorous coursework,
sleepless nights, assignment deadlines, never ending class schedules and closed
book exams to top it all – everything will seem to be worth it.
Though as a batch you left no stones unturned trying out every possible way
to ensure you had a “mast” time on campus and keep PGPEX office’s hands
full, hope this one year will be one, the memories of which you will cherish
for a long time.
It has been a pleasure to know you all and we request that you stay in touch,
keep coming back to the institute as alumni, recruiters, guest speakers or even
just for a visit to your alma mater.
All members of PGPEX Office
Congratulations to PGPEX for
finally coming up with their
yearbook. Good work by this
batch! I have had quite a few
interactions with your batch
in various formal as well as
informal capacities. Your class
seemed to have a sense of
maturity to deal with several
tricky issues. It is nice to
witness how people’s attitude
changed from the beginning to
the end of the program.
I could see your enthusiastic participation in various curricular and
extra-curricular activities. Some of you were very helpful, some of
you were positive throughout different phases, some others had
moon phases, yet others were hopelessly incorrigible. Of course, we
were happy to have a bunch of ambitious people who will impact the
world positively.
Your camaraderie and support for each other stood out from
previous editions. The results are for everyone to see and marvel in. I
personally found you overall more mature as a batch. Probably there
were lesser infights, or maybe it was Club 100 vs. the rest. Whatever
it was, let it be.
I had the pleasure of interacting with a few of you very closely on
matters most important to all of us. Thank you for giving me the
space to express myself freely and allowing me a few transgressions.
Hope you too had your desired space.
Wish you all, the very best in your personal and professional journey.
Stay in touch.
With love,
AG

I’ve always enjoyed teaching & interacting with PGPEX students at IIM Calcutta, for being really engaged
students. However, the 12th batch (batch of 2018-19) has been particularly special due to great amount of
interest, probing questions and insightful inputs. I often struggled to finish the classes on time due to the
high level of interaction, and conversations often continued well beyond the class, but I enjoyed every bit of
it thoroughly!
I wish each of these really special people the very best for their futures, and hope to stay in touch, and see
them grow more & more in life!

PGPEx Batch of 2019 was a pleasure to interact with. An appropriate blend of work experience made
the class diversity richer. As I taught them both in term I and term VI, I had an opportunity to see
the batch mature into more confident individuals assimilating the learning well. The camaraderie
and batch strength was commendable. I wish the batch super success in their endeavors and hope
they leverage on the opportunities well.
All of you came into IIMC in April last year, determined to make a fresh start in your careers in a year’s time. I hope,
as you leave this April, you make not only a fresh start in your careers but also in your lives. I do hope this one year
has given you time to not only learn Business Management (after all you are being given an MBA) but also reflect
on what it takes to be a good human being. If you have realised that it is not the outcome but the journey to the
outcome that is of greater value, then out job at IIM Calcutta is done.
I consider myself privileged to partake of your learning experience through the Being a CEO Sessions and ofcourse,
as co-learners in the Microeconomics class. You made me a part of the PGPEX family through your celebrations
for Onam, Diwali and every little interaction we had. You helped me understand the generation divide by being the
bridge between my antiquated world view and the dynamism and optimism of the younger students on campus. For
all of this, I cannot thank you enough. And I feel sad that before we know it, it is time for you to leave.
I have come to realise that time is precious and good times just fly. Yet, as time flies, it leaves us with experience and
learning, and this is what matters. We cannot control the uncertainties of the world or how fast time flies, but we can
control the quality of our work and the passion with which we do it, which in turn accelerates time. I do hope all of
you will take pride in your work, in your every action, no matter how small, and will value the process while being
irreverent of the outcome. Please remember that we are out here to celebrate all your achievements, no matter how
small and share your concerns, no matter how big. IIM Calcutta is now part of your family, your support system,
and I do hope you keep coming back to us whenever you want. All the very best for your life ahead!

It happened over the summer of 2018. Even our campus, that is lush green for most ofthe year looked parched at that
time. One such scorching afternoon, I walked into your classroom inNAB. I was highly conscious of the fact that you
would be meeting me for many consecutive classesover a short period of just one week. But you know what, you made
it easy and comfortable. Right from the moment I entered the classroom, we had an easy camaraderie. At an informal
level, we decided to learn from one another.
The next few days were very satisfying for me as an instructor. We were communicating. It was during your public
speaking assignment in class that I started learning more about many of you. Your lives. Your expectations. Your
perspectives. You faced the camera. I sat behind it. And, I hope you think it was all worth it – you watched yourself
present to an audience and I was so proud to see you put in the effort to connect – individually and collectively.
Soon, our 12 classes together came to an end. We said goodbye in the classroom. And, then beganour numerous
corridor conversations in NAB. Some of you also came to my office to chat. You have come a long way from your
initial days on campus. Thereused to be so many questions on your mind: Have I done the right thing leaving my
job? Is thisinvestment worth it? Will my family be happy? Will I be happy? Some of you found it challenging to sit
in a classroom all day after spending so many years in the corporate world. But you did it. And,you did it gloriously.
Now that you are ready to leave campus, I will miss talking to you all. I will miss your positive energy. Do keep in touch. All it takes is an email. A text
message. A tweet.
So, farewell! I hope that in the years to come, you scale new heights. But I also hope that you find joy in the ordinary. That you live a life of gratitude for the big
and small things that come your way. You will always be one of the most cherished groups of people I have interacted with at IIM Calcutta.
All the very best to each one of you!
Friends, a year at IIMC, your beloved alma mater, has surely reignited the passion for learning, rekindled the flame of
inquiry, and inculcated the habit of systematic hard work under pressure. Never in life, let that passion dissipate, the flame
be doused and that habit desert you. As you step out once again into the world of practice, do remember that greater folly
in life is not in setting your aspiration too high and falling short; but in setting your aspiration too low, achieving the mark
easily and getting trapped in an ignominious cycle of satisfactory under performance. Make a difference, be happy, and
stay in touch.

My dear students:
I am so happy that I taught you the Financial Statement
Analysis elective course. Being the first time I was
teaching in your program, I did not know what to
expect from the batch. But I am so glad that I got such
an interesting group of students. You delighted me
with your maturity, participation, and quest for deeper
knowledge. Please retain your curiosity and thirst. I wish
you the best in your future endeavor. Have a bountiful
career and joyful life ahead!
Congratulations to the graduating
PGPEX batch of IIM Calcutta, 2019.
It is my pleasure to be a part of your
yearbook and memory at IIM Calcutta.
It was great fun to interact with you
guys within the classroom as well as
outside of it. Whatever small number
of sessions I took, thankfully most of
you recognize me (and hopefully will
continue to recognize me) outside the
class we will play the cricket match due
with this batch once you are back for
reunion … All the best for everything
you wish to do in life ..

It was a pleasure engaging with the PGPEX batch of
2019. Your energy and your diverse points of view
raised the quality of the class discussion. I wish the
batch good luck, and hope that the bonds you have
with Joka will strengthen over the coming years.

PGPEX batch 12 consists of highly enthusiastic
participants who were usually eager to know more
and more on the subject having practical relevance.
The batch has also shown keen interest in organizing
several professional events. I wish the batch a great
success in their future careers.
As you grow in your careers, emulating
technological and organizational practices
of the successful West on your professional
callings, it may be worth remembering
that just 400 years back, the world was
eager to learn from and trade with India.
If you just look at your own backyards, you
would still find treasures in older ideas
of organizing, in traditional skills, albeit
sometimes covered in dust and decay,
that would be worthy of rediscovery in
new forms. That rediscovery of the old
India with the gentle brush of the West
may well be the route to a sustainable and
inclusive world. Wish some of you stumble
upon such treasures as you blossom into
successful professionals.

I very much enjoyed teaching the core course on
‘Strategy Execution’ to PGPEX Batch 12. A most
lively batch, sincere and enthusiastic to learn, it was
a pleasure to interact with them both inside and
outside of class. Many pleasant memories come to my
mind especially of the balanced scorecard simulation
session. I was able to get Dr. Sridhar Mitta, a doyen of
the IT industry, for the first time to our campus for
this class, and those memorable pictures are attached.

“It was a pleasure to interact with you all. I would
remember your engaging/energetic participation
inside the classroom and active organization of
events at MDC 3rd floor (to which faculty members
and families also got invited). Thank you cohort.
We too were enriched in your midst. Listen, Learn,
Lead and leave a fruitful Legacy in all your future
endeavors. Wishing you all the very best”
Enjoyed the mature level of discussions in
the classroom - it showed the interest you
had and the perspectives you were able to
bring and share with the class...........
Wishing you all the very best - in your
careers and your lives !

As the class of 2019 of PGPEx gets itself ready to storm the world after spending a fabulous year
at IIMC, I still fondly remember their early days in the NAB class room when we met for the first
time on a hot April afternoon. An ever inquisitive group of young minds bubbling with hoards of
questions - curious and not judgemental. It was fun to interact with them inside class, in corridors,
in my office, and surely online. Great to observe that they already knew that the most important
thing in learning is to ask questions. I know even today some of your queries may not be resolved
yet. So, go into the world, and look for the answers yourselves through interesting mistakes. And
keep asking right questions at the right moment. Begin the amazing journey that beckons you. Go
and enjoy it.
Prof. Debashis Saha
Dear Graduating Class of PGPEX Batch 12,
Congratulations to each one of you for undertaking and completing this challenging journey. You are now
the proud members of a very special club, the alumni of IIMC! You are also our valued ambassadors.
I have thoroughly enjoyed my interactions with you, inside and outside of our class meetings. Your
participation in the class discussions was an important element of the learning experience. Please do not
hesitate to reach out to me if I can be of any help in your future work and career.
With very best wishes

My interactions with the 12th batch of PGPEX were fewer than those of my colleagues and were
limited to the classroom interaction with the 20 students in my elective course, the occasional
interactions through Cricket and my visits to the PGPEX mess. The batch had a certain energy
thanks to fitness-crazy people, dog-loving (crazy?) people, a whole bunch of Cricket-lovers who
were also good at playing it (so much so that the PGPEX team emerged champions of the JCPL
this year), and intense competition in the academic space – the batch didn’t do anything in short
measure. It is this that made the batch stand out for me irrespective of my limited interactions.
Wanting to do better than before and in the process getting to be a better version of oneself is a
worthy endeavour. May this define each member of your batch and may you bring this energy to all
that you take on in your respective futures.
It was really my great privilege to meaningfully interact with the 12th batch of PGPEX who apart from
being very inquisitive also had deep insights of various regulatory challenges that were being faced by
organisations. I must admit that the sessions were made very interesting by the vibrant interventions
of the batch which resulted in a comprehensive coverage of the topics through intensive discussions on
various contemporary issues facing businesses. Frankly speaking I would very much miss these fruitful
interactions. My very best wishes to one and all and I hope to remain in touch with all of you.

person with a keen sense to learn and to maximize your
time at Joka. It has always been a pleasure interacting
with you. The numerous fights we had during group
work seem trivial now and the memories will always
be cherished. Keep being this unassuming person and
keep surprising people. All the best and stay in touch.
Vyshakh Ravindran
Very genuine, super-dedicated and humble person!!
I have always been amazed by her articulation of
thoughts. She is very sweet friend who keeps feeding
chocolates :D Stay in touch and kuddos to the positive
change this one year triggered in you - Inspiring !!

Mam
I have said this many times earlier, and don’t want to
miss the chance to mention again, Ankit is the most
eloquent speaker / presenter of our batch. Mark my
words buddy, you can be a professional speaker and
make a fortune if you decide to give up post MBA
dreams :-P Kumar Prateek
The first person to break his leg (literally) after joining
PGPEX. A very talented guy in all respect. A good
sportsman (in almost all the sports), an intelligent
student, a good and confident speaker etc, in short,
aSarva gun sampan kind of guy. All the best for the
future bro. Surjeet Parida
Ankit has been the most diligent boy of our batch.
Initially, he went into a lot of things only to gather his
focus back on important things. There are very few
people whom I felt were prepared for the placement
season, and ankit might top that list for me. He is
superbly creative, funny yet a studious chap. I would
have loved to collaborate more with him but will
takeaway with his friendship for now :) I know you
will do good wherever you go so relax, smile and rock!!
Prashant Sharma
When you are around Ankit, you can never get bored!
His quick wits and funny one liners often come as a
surprise in most unexpected situations :D On the flip
side, he has his goals cut out and knows how to achieve
them. You are left admiring at his dedication to the
academics! But, he still manages to find enough time
for non-acads such as sports, dramatics, parties and
other ‘fun’ stuff :P Can never forget this Brahman’s
likeness for Ladoos! Thoroughly enjoyed all the time
we spent together! :D Amitesh Asthana
Graceful. Soft-spoken. Hardworking. Humility. Ankit
is as calm as a married man. You never see anger on
his face. Just a smile radiating when he passes by. The
pivot and the bellwether of the SNC team who could
manage to hold the pieces together. I am really happy
that you finally got what you deserved. May God
give you the strength to fulfill all my online orders on
time. Keep the smile going. Best wishes to you bro!!
Venugopal Pai
“Mr. Gentleman !! Ankit is the ideal person of the
batch. Very mature, stable , athletic and funny person
all at the same time. And an amazing cook too. I have
a lot to learn from you, commitment being foremost.
A lot of respect for you brother. Our fondest memory
was on the day you got placed and andhiiii daaru
bahai thi jiska hisaab lagana mushkil ho gya tha.
Had never seen you so happy ever. Wish you more
such successes in future and same partying spirit.
Stay in touch Surya Pratap Joshi “
Future colleague :)...Super happy for the last minute
pleasant surprise..Ankit is one of those guys who can
‘wow’ you with his presentation skills..always loved
the detailed (and super beautfiul) ppts you used to
make...A very focussed guy,,,i still remember how you
used to prep for interviews...Looking forward to some
wonderful times ahead at work place...:) Sharath Nair
The guesstimate champion! And also does great
impressions of batchmates and faculty. I know which
my favourite is. An extremely calm and articulate guy.
We have had lots of conversations and both always
came out of them wiser. Keep the calmness and the
humour alive. Abhishek Choudhury

German boi!! CR!! what not... He introduced ‘All

bouts of discussions we would have cribbing about the
college, systems or batchmates ... A fun loving guy who
would almost always be min 10 mins late to class (yes,
he was the CR)..A real smart guy...he knew his thing,
what he wants in life n how to...I rem him telling Goel
sir,,,i will get placed this wednesday...n come wed,,he
calls up boss in all his swag...n conveys! All the best

ever seen you serious! So cheerful all the time! Room

Genuine at heart! Stay like that always bro!! Stay in

An awesome person to be with! Ankur will make
difficult things looks easy with his positive attitude.
Have cherished all the moments spent with you both in
and out of campus :).. Sooner or later we will definitely
start working on so many start up ideas discussed
together.. Keep your positivity intact! I am going to
discuss hell lot of issues with you throughout my life ;)
Siddharth Vashisth
“BRO”,”WOOHOO” and “GAS” are some of the
words which will always remind me of you Ankur.
This person has a making of a politician in him. The
“VAAYDA” which made him win CR election is an
excellent example of this. Though after getting selected
as a CR, he has lived up to the expectations and
performed well. I am a fan of his no-nonsense attitude.I
will always cherish our communications about life,
work and everything under the sun :P. And by the way
all the best for your stand up comedy career. Soumya
Dubey
Hope you start winning more often in your constant
race against time :-P. Hats off to you buddy for
shouldering humongous responsibility of being our
CR along with Ranjith. You are a natural Master of
Ceremonies and some of your unintentionally funny
moments are hilarious. Keep cheering up people
around and wish you huge success in future. Do stay
in touch buddy !! Kumar Prateek
Ankur bro..u were super as our CR. Specially the way
u managed all hands meets and elections is laudable.
And thanks for doing emceeing for Homecoming..U
were absolutely entertaining. And above all, thanks for
always being just a call away for any help. U r indeed a
true friend bro. Nitin Chandra
Partner in crime !! Still remember the grand plans we
made in Gurgaon for IIM C, did nothing. Made grand
plans for Germany, did nothing !! and the list continues
...Important advise: Dude, you should get into stand-
up circuit asap. Lots of memories with you, bro. Stay
in touch. Ankit Sharma
“The cool CR of our class. Whenever any
illegitimate request has to get approved Ankur
used to be our face for office. Bro you had to take
on many bullets for me from PGPEX office :)
A charming personality who can gel with anybody
very quickly. Will surely be in touch with you bro..
All the best for your journey ahead..!!

The official Party planner of the batch !! Annu is super
excited, super cheerful, FOMO infected lady - She
would never miss a chance of having fun, even if it
is her health at stake. We did a lot of rides together -
right from ambulance wali to Mountmartre - each one
is a memory. And yes she makes many false promises
too :D (like cooking dal batti), I will keep disturbing
lifetime, Samjhi lil Sis !! Stay in touch !! Ankit Sharma
“The first person I met in the batch. A great multitasker
and a fun person to be with. Aurobindo Mahanty “
“Annu is someone who dedicates herself in whatever
she does-whether it is academics, parties or college
events. I liked the way how you were ever ready
to try out anything new.Although we had heated
arguments at times, you have been a great friend too.
Just be the same Anindita Ghosh “
What you can always expect from Annu is a cheerful
smile. Always eager and ready for outings and trips.
I owe my nice Germany trip to her to a great extent.
She has been the glue that holds the group together.
Thanks for being an awesome friend and great support
through the tough and good times in this one year. Stay
happy and cheerful!! Aur haan, chai to woh bahut acchi
banati hai :) Abhishek Choudhury
Bro! Just if it makes you happy, I just wanted to let you
know that you are the real bro :P. You are the one (only
one I guess), who motivated me enough to tell more
jokes even if you knew that I am just throwing gas.
Your one-liner motivation is something that has really
worked out for me (though I still don’t know how :P).
You are the one person who I can keep throwing gas at
and you will still listen patiently. I will miss you a lot
bro. Please stay connected! Ankur Madan
Kitna hansti hai yaar ye. Koi reason nahi chahiye ise
hasne ke liye. Aur to aur agar koi ispar chilla raha ho
to bhi hasti hai ye ulta. There’s never a dull moment
when she is around. She is the first one to raise her
hand when it comes to owning tasks in any group
work. Keep smiling and making people crazy around
you and all the best for everything !! Kumar Prateek
An-fomo-Nu has one of the best attitude in our batch.
When people were supposedly planning ‘groups’,
you chartered your own path of ekla chalo. You have
never shied away from participation in projects only
if SAC was handles with such enthu, we would have
been grateful :P You have great ability to sneak in and
utilise every resource well. A travel freak, ready for
every plan, & never say no attitude is wat I will always
remember you as. We will be keep troubling you so be
ready to host us in mum Prashant Sharma
“Sportswoman of the batch !! Annu demonstrated great
will power and determination while she suffered from
her back pain and hand burn during diwali. Deepest
apologies for the Diwali incident as it was my mistake
majorly. But you never expressed that and forgave me.
My fondest memory with you was when we went to
city for your check up and lunch at BarBq. I owe you
atleast 50 apples which I used to flick from your room.
Our funniest moment together was when you made
that super awesome coffee!! Surya Pratap Joshi “
:D:D:D This is Annu, always cheerful and spreading
the same :) Some great memories of the immersion trip
:) Wish you the best.. Keep smiling and be in touch!

IIM Calcutta A5 Size 8.5 x 5.5 inches.pdf

  • 1.
  • 2. Dear PGPEX Class of 2019 You were twelfth and soon it will be teens. We will look back at the twelfth with pride, of course, but more with bit of nostalgia at having enjoyed our last chance to be considered innocent and pardoned for our follies, and chance to be idealist almost bordering on naivetĂŠ, as we tiptoe into the world of adolescence and impending adulthood- world would be far less charitable then. It is about the twelfth batch and twelfth year of programme. You were sugar and spice; I answered Mohit when he asked how I describe the batch. So many faculties came and told me, it is a fantastic batch. They are so enthusiastic, energetic, inquisitive, and excited. There were few who told me that students were less prepared in the classes compared to earlier batches. The batch did well in academics, in corporate interactions and competitions, in sports field, and in job placements. It took many initiatives to make programme stronger by deepening alumni engagements, corporate engagements, and social media presence. Be it ‘Homecoming’, thematic webinars, richer ‘Lattice’, many of you made a difference. Few of you won prestigious competitions and gained recognition such as social start up idea of Swakrishi was selected among impactful ideas in TSEC (Tata Social enterprise challenge), or 2nd position won by PGPEX team in national level analytics cum marketing case competition organized by PWC USA, or live project on AI at HDFC, or case writing with IIM CRC, and the list goes on. Many of you volunteered in the committees strengthening our processes of admissions, placements, programme branding, immersion, and so on. As a lasting legacy I am sure you would also leave a comprehensive process document for the batches to come so that they do not have to reinvent the wheel. At the programme front it was an exciting year as we saw the precocious child coming into its own. It is all set to assume a new identity of MBA, turning in the process from a diploma to a degree. It sure would put us in the league of globally recognized one year MBA programmes. It registered the biggest jump worldwide in the global FT rankings from 78 to 49 this year. The programme went through extensive review for renewal of accreditations conferred by EQUS and AMBA, AASCB follows. There were few challenges – the immersion crisis, GST confusion, IIM act and its implication for the programme, degree name, changing leadership at the top, and so on. It is to the credit of mettle of all involved that we could overcome most of these at right time. A few important ideas such as mandatory live projects, engagement with alumni on projects, engagement with IIMC incubation park, alumni reunion, ’Homecoming’, reformed admission process, and management game made significant progress towards full scale implementation. More remains to be done! As you all step out into your rejuvenated corporate careers, we at the institute look forward to welcome our valued alumni, the class of 2019, many times over at the campus and in many fora outside it. You become the flag bearers who would bring laurels that all of us at campus can cherish and feel pride of having contributed to your successful journey in a small way. Thank you and All the Best, Prof. Amit Dhiman Message from the Chairperson, Prof. Amit Dhiman 1
  • 3. 2018-19 has been a very special and significant year for us. Down the years, Batch 12 will become part of PGPEX history for being the first batch to be granted the “Master of Business Administration” on the successful completion of one year full time programme for executives. Also, how can we forget the leap in FT rankings! Now all the pains undertaken throughout the year – rigorous coursework, sleepless nights, assignment deadlines, never ending class schedules and closed book exams to top it all – everything will seem to be worth it. Though as a batch you left no stones unturned trying out every possible way to ensure you had a “mast” time on campus and keep PGPEX office’s hands full, hope this one year will be one, the memories of which you will cherish for a long time. It has been a pleasure to know you all and we request that you stay in touch, keep coming back to the institute as alumni, recruiters, guest speakers or even just for a visit to your alma mater. All members of PGPEX Office Congratulations to PGPEX for finally coming up with their yearbook. Good work by this batch! I have had quite a few interactions with your batch in various formal as well as informal capacities. Your class seemed to have a sense of maturity to deal with several tricky issues. It is nice to witness how people’s attitude changed from the beginning to the end of the program. I could see your enthusiastic participation in various curricular and extra-curricular activities. Some of you were very helpful, some of you were positive throughout different phases, some others had moon phases, yet others were hopelessly incorrigible. Of course, we were happy to have a bunch of ambitious people who will impact the world positively. Your camaraderie and support for each other stood out from previous editions. The results are for everyone to see and marvel in. I personally found you overall more mature as a batch. Probably there were lesser infights, or maybe it was Club 100 vs. the rest. Whatever it was, let it be. I had the pleasure of interacting with a few of you very closely on matters most important to all of us. Thank you for giving me the space to express myself freely and allowing me a few transgressions. Hope you too had your desired space. Wish you all, the very best in your personal and professional journey. Stay in touch. With love, AG Prof. Abhishek Goel 2
  • 4. It was a pleasure teaching your batch and I will remember you for your energy, and positivity! As you back into the world I encourage you to remember that we are all “works in progress” which means be self-aware, invest in yourselves and keep learning throughout life! I wish you meaningful work, lots of laughter and a very interesting life! Enjoy!!!! Enjoy!!!! I’ve always enjoyed teaching & interacting with PGPEX students at IIM Calcutta, for being really engaged students. However, the 12th batch (batch of 2018-19) has been particularly special due to great amount of interest, probing questions and insightful inputs. I often struggled to finish the classes on time due to the high level of interaction, and conversations often continued well beyond the class, but I enjoyed every bit of it thoroughly! I wish each of these really special people the very best for their futures, and hope to stay in touch, and see them grow more & more in life! Prof. Leena Chatterjee Prof. C.D. Mitra 3
  • 5. PGPEx Batch of 2019 was a pleasure to interact with. An appropriate blend of work experience made the class diversity richer. As I taught them both in term I and term VI, I had an opportunity to see the batch mature into more confident individuals assimilating the learning well. The camaraderie and batch strength was commendable. I wish the batch super success in their endeavors and hope they leverage on the opportunities well. All of you came into IIMC in April last year, determined to make a fresh start in your careers in a year’s time. I hope, as you leave this April, you make not only a fresh start in your careers but also in your lives. I do hope this one year has given you time to not only learn Business Management (after all you are being given an MBA) but also reflect on what it takes to be a good human being. If you have realised that it is not the outcome but the journey to the outcome that is of greater value, then out job at IIM Calcutta is done. I consider myself privileged to partake of your learning experience through the Being a CEO Sessions and ofcourse, as co-learners in the Microeconomics class. You made me a part of the PGPEX family through your celebrations for Onam, Diwali and every little interaction we had. You helped me understand the generation divide by being the bridge between my antiquated world view and the dynamism and optimism of the younger students on campus. For all of this, I cannot thank you enough. And I feel sad that before we know it, it is time for you to leave. I have come to realise that time is precious and good times just fly. Yet, as time flies, it leaves us with experience and learning, and this is what matters. We cannot control the uncertainties of the world or how fast time flies, but we can control the quality of our work and the passion with which we do it, which in turn accelerates time. I do hope all of you will take pride in your work, in your every action, no matter how small, and will value the process while being irreverent of the outcome. Please remember that we are out here to celebrate all your achievements, no matter how small and share your concerns, no matter how big. IIM Calcutta is now part of your family, your support system, and I do hope you keep coming back to us whenever you want. All the very best for your life ahead! • 6. It happened over the summer of 2018. Even our campus, that is lush green for most ofthe year looked parched at that time. One such scorching afternoon, I walked into your classroom inNAB. I was highly conscious of the fact that you would be meeting me for many consecutive classesover a short period of just one week. But you know what, you made it easy and comfortable. Right from the moment I entered the classroom, we had an easy camaraderie. At an informal level, we decided to learn from one another. The next few days were very satisfying for me as an instructor. We were communicating. It was during your public speaking assignment in class that I started learning more about many of you. Your lives. Your expectations. Your perspectives. You faced the camera. I sat behind it. And, I hope you think it was all worth it – you watched yourself present to an audience and I was so proud to see you put in the effort to connect – individually and collectively. Soon, our 12 classes together came to an end. We said goodbye in the classroom. And, then beganour numerous corridor conversations in NAB. Some of you also came to my office to chat. You have come a long way from your initial days on campus. Thereused to be so many questions on your mind: Have I done the right thing leaving my job? Is thisinvestment worth it? Will my family be happy? Will I be happy? Some of you found it challenging to sit in a classroom all day after spending so many years in the corporate world. But you did it. And,you did it gloriously. Now that you are ready to leave campus, I will miss talking to you all. I will miss your positive energy. Do keep in touch. All it takes is an email. A text message. A tweet. So, farewell! I hope that in the years to come, you scale new heights. But I also hope that you find joy in the ordinary. That you live a life of gratitude for the big and small things that come your way. You will always be one of the most cherished groups of people I have interacted with at IIM Calcutta. All the very best to each one of you! Friends, a year at IIMC, your beloved alma mater, has surely reignited the passion for learning, rekindled the flame of inquiry, and inculcated the habit of systematic hard work under pressure. Never in life, let that passion dissipate, the flame be doused and that habit desert you. As you step out once again into the world of practice, do remember that greater folly in life is not in setting your aspiration too high and falling short; but in setting your aspiration too low, achieving the mark easily and getting trapped in an ignominious cycle of satisfactory under performance. Make a difference, be happy, and stay in touch. Prof. Smeeta Mishra Prof. Sougata Ray 5
  • 7. My dear students: I am so happy that I taught you the Financial Statement Analysis elective course. Being the first time I was teaching in your program, I did not know what to expect from the batch. But I am so glad that I got such an interesting group of students. You delighted me with your maturity, participation, and quest for deeper knowledge. Please retain your curiosity and thirst. I wish you the best in your future endeavor. Have a bountiful career and joyful life ahead! Congratulations to the graduating PGPEX batch of IIM Calcutta, 2019. It is my pleasure to be a part of your yearbook and memory at IIM Calcutta. It was great fun to interact with you guys within the classroom as well as outside of it. Whatever small number of sessions I took, thankfully most of you recognize me (and hopefully will continue to recognize me) outside the class we will play the cricket match due with this batch once you are back for reunion … All the best for everything you wish to do in life .. Prof. Sudhir S. Jaiswall Prof. Sumanta Basu It was a pleasure engaging with the PGPEX batch of 2019. Your energy and your diverse points of view raised the quality of the class discussion. I wish the batch good luck, and hope that the bonds you have with Joka will strengthen over the coming years. Prof. Anirvan Pant 6
  • 8. PGPEX batch 12 consists of highly enthusiastic participants who were usually eager to know more and more on the subject having practical relevance. The batch has also shown keen interest in organizing several professional events. I wish the batch a great success in their future careers. As you grow in your careers, emulating technological and organizational practices of the successful West on your professional callings, it may be worth remembering that just 400 years back, the world was eager to learn from and trade with India. If you just look at your own backyards, you would still find treasures in older ideas of organizing, in traditional skills, albeit sometimes covered in dust and decay, that would be worthy of rediscovery in new forms. That rediscovery of the old India with the gentle brush of the West may well be the route to a sustainable and inclusive world. Wish some of you stumble upon such treasures as you blossom into successful professionals. Prof. B.N. Srivastava Prof. Biswatosh Saha I very much enjoyed teaching the core course on ‘Strategy Execution’ to PGPEX Batch 12. A most lively batch, sincere and enthusiastic to learn, it was a pleasure to interact with them both inside and outside of class. Many pleasant memories come to my mind especially of the balanced scorecard simulation session. I was able to get Dr. Sridhar Mitta, a doyen of the IT industry, for the first time to our campus for this class, and those memorable pictures are attached. Prof. Ramya 7
  • 9. “It was a pleasure to interact with you all. I would remember your engaging/energetic participation inside the classroom and active organization of events at MDC 3rd floor (to which faculty members and families also got invited). Thank you cohort. We too were enriched in your midst. Listen, Learn, Lead and leave a fruitful Legacy in all your future endeavors. Wishing you all the very best” Enjoyed the mature level of discussions in the classroom - it showed the interest you had and the perspectives you were able to bring and share with the class........... Wishing you all the very best - in your careers and your lives ! Prof. Chetan Joshi Prof. K Dasaratharaman Look within, look without ... or the other way around. • 10. As the class of 2019 of PGPEx gets itself ready to storm the world after spending a fabulous year at IIMC, I still fondly remember their early days in the NAB class room when we met for the first time on a hot April afternoon. An ever inquisitive group of young minds bubbling with hoards of questions - curious and not judgemental. It was fun to interact with them inside class, in corridors, in my office, and surely online. Great to observe that they already knew that the most important thing in learning is to ask questions. I know even today some of your queries may not be resolved yet. So, go into the world, and look for the answers yourselves through interesting mistakes. And keep asking right questions at the right moment. Begin the amazing journey that beckons you. Go and enjoy it. Prof. Debashis Saha Dear Graduating Class of PGPEX Batch 12, Congratulations to each one of you for undertaking and completing this challenging journey. You are now the proud members of a very special club, the alumni of IIMC! You are also our valued ambassadors. I have thoroughly enjoyed my interactions with you, inside and outside of our class meetings. Your participation in the class discussions was an important element of the learning experience. Please do not hesitate to reach out to me if I can be of any help in your future work and career. With very best wishes Prof. Sris Chatterjee 9
  • 11. My interactions with the 12th batch of PGPEX were fewer than those of my colleagues and were limited to the classroom interaction with the 20 students in my elective course, the occasional interactions through Cricket and my visits to the PGPEX mess. The batch had a certain energy thanks to fitness-crazy people, dog-loving (crazy?) people, a whole bunch of Cricket-lovers who were also good at playing it (so much so that the PGPEX team emerged champions of the JCPL this year), and intense competition in the academic space – the batch didn’t do anything in short measure. It is this that made the batch stand out for me irrespective of my limited interactions. Wanting to do better than before and in the process getting to be a better version of oneself is a worthy endeavour. May this define each member of your batch and may you bring this energy to all that you take on in your respective futures. It was really my great privilege to meaningfully interact with the 12th batch of PGPEX who apart from being very inquisitive also had deep insights of various regulatory challenges that were being faced by organisations. I must admit that the sessions were made very interesting by the vibrant interventions of the batch which resulted in a comprehensive coverage of the topics through intensive discussions on various contemporary issues facing businesses. Frankly speaking I would very much miss these fruitful interactions. My very best wishes to one and all and I hope to remain in touch with all of you. Prof. Suren Sista Prof. V.K. Unni 10

All the best for the future bro. Surjeet Parida Ankit has been the most diligent boy of our batch. Initially, he went into a lot of things only to gather his focus back on important things. There are very few people whom I felt were prepared for the placement season, and ankit might top that list for me. He is superbly creative, funny yet a studious chap. I would have loved to collaborate more with him but will takeaway with his friendship for now :) I know you will do good wherever you go so relax, smile and rock!! I am a fan of his no-nonsense attitude.I will always cherish our communications about life, work and everything under the sun :P. And by the way all the best for your stand up comedy career. Soumya Dubey Hope you start winning more often in your constant race against time :-P. Hats off to you buddy for shouldering humongous responsibility of being our CR along with Ranjith. You are a natural Master of Ceremonies and some of your unintentionally funny moments are hilarious. Keep cheering up people around and wish you huge success in future. Do stay in touch buddy !! Kumar Prateek Ankur bro..u were super as our CR. Specially the way u managed all hands meets and elections is laudable. And thanks for doing emceeing for Homecoming..U were absolutely entertaining. Ankit Sharma “The cool CR of our class. Whenever any illegitimate request has to get approved Ankur used to be our face for office. Annu Saini Email : annusx2019@email. iimcal.ac.in Nick name : Anu Room number in IIMC : 331 A song that describes me : Safarnama My moment of pride in IIMC : Joining day One thing I regret from IIMC : Not writing testimonials for many Favorite faculty : CD Mitra The official Party planner of the batch !! Annu is super excited, super cheerful, FOMO infected lady - She would never miss a chance of having fun, even if it is her health at stake. We did a lot of rides together - right from ambulance wali to Mountmartre - each one is a memory. And yes she makes many false promises too :D (like cooking dal batti), I will keep disturbing lifetime, Samjhi lil Sis !! Stay in touch !! Ankit Sharma “The first person I met in the batch. A great multitasker and a fun person to be with. Aurobindo Mahanty “ “Annu is someone who dedicates herself in whatever she does-whether it is academics, parties or college events. I liked the way how you were ever ready to try out anything new.Although we had heated arguments at times, you have been a great friend too. Just be the same Anindita Ghosh “ What you can always expect from Annu is a cheerful smile. Always eager and ready for outings and trips. I owe my nice Germany trip to her to a great extent. She has been the glue that holds the group together. Thanks for being an awesome friend and great support through the tough and good times in this one year. Stay happy and cheerful!! Aur haan, chai to woh bahut acchi banati hai :) Abhishek Choudhury Bro! Just if it makes you happy, I just wanted to let you know that you are the real bro :P. You are the one (only one I guess), who motivated me enough to tell more jokes even if you knew that I am just throwing gas. Your one-liner motivation is something that has really worked out for me (though I still don’t know how :P). You are the one person who I can keep throwing gas at and you will still listen patiently. I will miss you a lot bro. Please stay connected! Ankur Madan Kitna hansti hai yaar ye. Koi reason nahi chahiye ise hasne ke liye. Aur to aur agar koi ispar chilla raha ho to bhi hasti hai ye ulta. There’s never a dull moment when she is around. She is the first one to raise her hand when it comes to owning tasks in any group work. Keep smiling and making people crazy around you and all the best for everything !! Kumar Prateek An-fomo-Nu has one of the best attitude in our batch. When people were supposedly planning ‘groups’, you chartered your own path of ekla chalo. You have never shied away from participation in projects only if SAC was handles with such enthu, we would have been grateful :P You have great ability to sneak in and utilise every resource well. A travel freak, ready for every plan, & never say no attitude is wat I will always remember you as. We will be keep troubling you so be ready to host us in mum Prashant Sharma “Sportswoman of the batch !! Annu demonstrated great will power and determination while she suffered from her back pain and hand burn during diwali. Deepest apologies for the Diwali incident as it was my mistake majorly. But you never expressed that and forgave me. My fondest memory with you was when we went to city for your check up and lunch at BarBq. I owe you atleast 50 apples which I used to flick from your room. Our funniest moment together was when you made that super awesome coffee!!
