4. LOWERY BRONSTED CONCEPT
In1923 Bronsted and Lowery proposed another
theory to overcome the shortcomings of Arrhenius
theory. This theory is Known as Bronsted –Lowery
theory.
5. ACID
An acid is a Substance (a compound or an ion) that can
donate proton donates (H+) to another substance .
CH3COOH → H+ + CH3COO-

A base is substance that can accept
proton (H+) from another substance
NH3 + H+ → [ NH4]+

9. • All the acids included in Arrhenius theory
are also Lowary Bronsted acids
• And all the bases included in Arrhenius
theory except OH- are not bases
