4. OVERVIEW :
Synopsis of what the report will contain and
the main conclusion.
In a few words.
It is usually better to write the overview at the
end but placed at the beginning of the
writing.
5. BACKGROUND / INTRODUCTION :
Here you set the context for the report.
Describe the purpose of the report.
Answers to Who? What? Why? Where? And
When?
It places the reader mentally in the picture.
Overview= Brief summary of the entire report.
Background= Introduction to the subject and explains the reason
for the report.
6. DISCUSSION / MAIN BODY:
Presents your findings.
Has evidence for the reader to understand
the subject.
Develop the findings in an organized and
logical manner.
Present them imaginatively to hold the
reader’s interest.
Maybe use Headings and Subheadings with
informative mini-titles and/or important
statistical data.
7. CONCLUSION / RECOMMENDATION(S):
States the major points that can be drawn
from the discussion.
Make recommendations if you have them.

Find the type of report you will talk about.
Research (No writing can start without a
good amount of reading)
Write an outline.
Start writing.

In writing, these words can show:

ORGANIZATION The organization enhances and
showcases the central idea or theme.
The order, structure or presentation is
interesting and moves the reader
through the text.
VOICE The writer speaks directly to the reader
in a way that is individual, interesting
and inviting. The writer crafts the writing
with an awareness and respect for the
audience and the purpose for writing.

11. WORD CHOICE Words transfer the intended message in
a precise, interesting and natural way.
The words are powerful and engaging.
SENTENCE FLUENCY The writing has an easy flow, rhythm and
intonation. Sentences are well built, with
strong and varied structure that invites
expressive oral reading.
CONVENTIONS The writer demonstrates a good grasp of
standard writing convention (e.g.
spelling, punctuation, capitalization,
grammar usage, paragraphing) and
uses conventions effectively to enhance
readibility. Errors tend to be so few that
just minor touchups would get this piece
ready to publish.
