The world of High Skies is divided into three regions - the Rise, Prime, and Below. The Rise is located highest and contains floating islands but is dangerous due to lightning storms. Below is the lowest region and consists of an endless ocean with sunken mountains and dangerous storms. Prime is located between the two and contains fertile landmasses and mild weather, serving as the center of government and trade run by the Crown Prime empire.
2. The world of High Skies can be broken into three pieces; the Rise, Prime
and the Below. They are separated by the type of landscapes and weather
patterns that are frequent in each tritosphere. Navigation relies primarily on
tracking celestial bodies in the sky (like the twin moons) and a weak
understanding of magnetic fields.
One of the primary goals for many sky-sailors is
charting the multitudes of islands and mountain
ranges. No true map of the world exists and
most scholars agree that most of the land-
masses, sky-ways and oceans have not been
discovered yet.
3. The Rise is the uppermost navigable tritosphere. There are no
landmasses in The Rise but it isn’t uncommon for free floating isles to be
discovered and inhabited. The Rise is dangerous to navigate due to sudden and
violent lighting storms called Krackling Storms. Lighting trappers are specialized
crews and ships that capture the powerful lighting and sell it to power many of
the new technology being developed on the mainland.
This tritosphere is also inhabited by
an innumerable amount of creatures
and animals. The most infamous
being the Kracken which is storied to
be the cause of the storms that
frequent the Rise.
4.
5. The Below is the least travelled and most dangerous tritosphere. The
Below is a seemingly endless ocean with sunken mountain ranges peaking high
into Prime. Steep cliffs form the bases of the largest landmasses and their
mountainous roots are surrounded by the dark oceans of The Below. Fog and
powerful storms plague the air space making navigation nearly impossible but
many seasoned pilots of the tritosphere are very successful.
The Below is the primary
location of all mines. Hundreds
of minerals and metals are dug,
sifted, sorted and shipped back
to the mainland. The dark
environment supports a diverse
ecosystem and there are several
types of monstrous humanoids
that thrive in The Below.
6.
7. The Prime is called so because mild weather and the fertile land
masses that are present amongst the clouds. The Crown Prime controls several
of the largest bodies of land which they also use to connect the main governing
system. Crowned Imperial Law is the common set of rules that control crime
and trade between islands. The Empire is actually a cabinet of appointed
representatives from differing islands that are supported by an alliance of royal
families from across Prime.
Harbors form the busiest parts
of every island and employ
millions. They are the focus of
attacks from pirates and are
often lined with shanty towns
built by the working poor
making them centers of crime
and violence. To help moderate
trade the C.I.L. has established
a licensing system to track
“legal” skilled laborers.
