Great Gatsby Personal Narrative Essay
Personal Narrative People find Gatsby to be great but I doubt it, I'm not like any ordinary person
I am a wise man with great vision like an owl looking for its prey at night. I think that there is
more to this person who's called The Great Gatsby I find him as a man who is very good at
deceiving people. Due to my suspicion of Gatsby I investigated further and found evidence or
proof of Gatsby's fraud and unoriginal life that he created himself and fooled everyone. Gatsby is
not someone that everyone has talked with or even seen and with his popularity rumours spread
fast, people say that he was a German spy and studied in oxford and some believed he killed a
man. During my investigation of the life Gatsby claim to have I went to his library during one of
his huge parties that everyone crashes in I found interesting stuff. A person who studied in oxford
must be well educated it is one of the finest if not the finest universities in the world therefore in
his library I examined his books to check if they were real or not. At first I was quite shocked of
what I found the books in his library were real but I checked again for anything that will help me
solving this mystery right after that thought I found that Gatsby did not read any of his books he
purchased, he didn't even cut the pages...show more content...
I was invited to Gatsby's funeral as I expected and mentioned before that Gatsby is not a person
who is loved by alot of people, people do not care about him in the funeral only Gatsby's father,
Nick, a couple of servants and I who attended, Nick had a hard time inviting people no one had
emotional feeling for Gatsby. I was the only guest that came both in his parties and his funeral I
was the only one who really knew who was really Gatsby, even though in all my observation of
Gatsby I thought Gatsby was worthy enough to attend his

Personal Narrative : The Great Gatsby
Have you ever lit your pants on fire!?! Thankfully, neither have I, but I did make a fool of myself in
front of my entire class. All of my teachers and classmates know that I am a slow reader, but I
usually never do anything wrong. That is why it became such a shocking and hilarious experience
when I finally did something wrong. I learned the hard way, through slight humiliation, that you
should always follow an instructor's exact directions no matter the circumstance.
During the month of May, 2017, my Language Arts class was assigned a book project. Everyone
received a book and worksheets that went along with the book, which helped us understand the
meanings and ideas in the book. That year we read The Great Gatsby. The teacher would...show more

My teacher possessed a peculiar sense of humor and after she finished reading the chapter she
said in a villainous tone, "It might be smart to review your worksheets for a surprise quiz
tomorrow." Accompanying her evil statement was an equally evil smile that traversed her face.
The evil nature of her smile even gave me goosebumps. Taking her word that there was going to
be a pop quiz tomorrow, I made sure that I attained my book and worksheets to study with that
night. The next day, as promised, she handed out a short pop quiz. It was not as challenging as
she tried to make it sound. It presented only five multiple choice questions on it. Once we
finished our quizzes, she told us to read the next chapter silently. Once I finished my quiz at the
speed of light, I decided to finish other homework, since I preferred to read at home anyway. So
while the rest of my class was reading, I worked on homework. Thirty minutes later, I completely
finished all of my other assignments, so I decided to start reading the chapter. After nearly two
paragraphs in, my teacher interrupted the class to see if everyone finished reading the chapter.
Unknown to me, the chapter was fairly short and everyone, but me, finished it. Raising my hand
slowly, I told her that I had not finished reading. Everyone in my class turned around and stared at
me. The teacher asked me how far I was in the chapter and how much time I needed to

Descriptive Essay On The Great Gatsby
The Great Gatsby, by Francis Scott Fitzgerald is an amazing novel that thank god it was turn into
a movie. It is probably one of my favorite movies of all time. Probably because it starts one of my
favorites actors of all time like the great Leonardo DiCaprio. Being that this novel is so well
known, so there is going to be many opinions about it. There is an extra of material that has been
written on The Great Gatsby. To me one of the most interesting aspect that The Great Gatsby brings
is the setting, which is during the 1920's, and how this movie represents the life of the great
Fitzgerald during this same time period. "In the 1920's and 1930s F. Scott Fitzgerald was equally
famous as a writer and as a celebrity author whose lifestyle seemed to symbolize the two decades"
(Fitzgerald, p. 2147). The movie is narrated by Nick Carraway, who moved to New York from the
mid–west. Nick moved to West Egg, which is a place where rich people lived. He bought a small
house next to none other than Jay Gatsby mansion. Nick is later invited by Gatsby itself to one of
his parties, where Gatsby tells Nick that him and Daisy were in love while Gatsby was in the war.
Later Nick arranged a meeting between Gatsby and Daisy, who turned out to be Nick's cousin.
Daisy's husband, Tom get suspicious of daisy's affair with Gatsby. Because of this, Tom arranged a
meeting to confront Gatsby in a hotel room. On the way back from this confrontation, Gatsby and
Daisy get into an accident killing Myrtle

Write An Essay On The Great Gatsby
And then, a bold English naturalist and geologist dares disturb the peace by publishing a 502–page
piece of scientific literature that introduces us to the scientific theory of evolution through natural
selection. The culprit's name is Charles Darwin, the book in question is titled On The Origin of
Species, and some people see this as an attempt at proving that God does not exist.
On The Origin of Species was as controversial in 1859 as Galileo Galilei's heliocentric theory was
in 1615, and for much the same reason: it threatened the authority of the church by challenging
religious views that were set in stone. Darwin's work was as accepted as it was detracted, though
Darwin didn't come under as much heat as the authors of other historically contentious works. It
generated much discussion in the areas of science, religion, and philosophy; it forced Darwin to
make enemies and friends; it is now seen as a seminal work in the field of evolutionary biology. On

Let us examine: In 1925, F. Scott Fitzgerald published his magnum opus, The Great Gatsby, a
work which is considered a timeless literary classic and has been given the title "Great American
Novel." Aside from being a stern warning regarding the American Dream, it explores themes of
debauchery, moral decay, and social change, all characteristics of the Roaring Twenties. Fitzgerald
was inspired by the garish culture that surrounded him in the 1920s, an era of economic prosperity,
bootlegging, and societal developments; he incorporated all these elements into a novel overflowing
with symbolism and references to issues or trends unique to that decade. The novel's main character,
Jay Gatsby, is among the world's most loved

Cage Bird and How to Say Nothing in 500 Words
To truly compare or justify anything to be superior to something else, you must have more than
one thing to compare. When I start to review narrative and descriptive essays, I have to try to
understand what separates the two. I chose to compare "Caged Bird", by Maya Angelou as my
Descriptive essay and "How to say nothing in 500 words", by Paul McHenry Roberts as my narrative
essay. To me these two essays set themselves apart from each other, not just because of the different
styles of writers, but the meaningful message that was delivered in both essays. While both of these
essays have a strong message that it delivers, but only one truly keeps my attention, answers all of
my questions, and helps me to imagine every word that is in the...show more content...
I could really envision what the bird was thinking of in the Caged Bird essay, the words help you
to picture what you cannot see. For example, "The free bird thinks of another breeze and the trade
winds soft through the sighing trees and the fat worms waiting on a dawn bright lawn and he
names the sky his own", Angelou, M. (1983). I really can picture the bird imagining this or just
reflecting on a past event that it experienced on an earlier day. All of the essentials for a good
descriptive essay, were found in this essay, but to me the format was more familiar to the format
of a poem and left me wanting more. I found myself wanting more details and a further description
of what the bird was experiencing or just more to read because it actually peeked my interest as to
what was going on with this bird.
Good narrative essays in preparation the writer determines a purpose of the narrative, considers
the audience, develops a thesis and a good plot. In addition to these tools for a good narrative, the
writer also anticipates and answers possible reader questions, uses language and dialogue
effectively, as well as maintains clear narrative order of the essay. How to say nothing in 500
words is the narrative essay that I picked to compare and I must say that the writer clearly knew
what it took to create a great narrative essay. The writer Paul McHenry Roberts sucks you in with
the title of his essay and just keeps

One hot and sunny day my parents, little brother, and I wanted to get out of the house. So we
decided to got to the park and play on the playground. It was so hot outside that we were sweating
just from standing but it was a great day. Not only was it was a great day but it was also a great day
because it was the day I was going to ask my parents if we could get a dog. I was so excited to ask
that I was getting goosebumps. I began to walk towards my parents and when I reached them I
asked the question." Can we get a dog please?" Both my mama and dad looked at each other and
said one day we will be able to. It wasn't a yes but it wasn't a no, so I knew that there was a chance
that I could get one.
The next day became one of the best days of my life and soon one of the saddest days. When I
was 5 years old I got one of the best gifts any kid good ask for. I've always wanted one and was so
glad when I laid eyes on her. Before I go into detail why not just start from the very beginning. One
evening, my little brother and I was watching tv with my mama when I heard my mama talking to
my dad on the phone saying "what you mean you have a surprise?" When I heard that, I knew that
It had to be something really intriguing. Minutes later I could hear the sound of the tires running

Narrative Essay On The Great Gatsby
Last night was all a blur. It was definitely one of the most memorable night of my life. Everyone
was all done up in expensive and ornate clothing. I felt so plain in my simple party dress. I
silently drifted through the crowd choosing to observe the crowd rather than joining in on their
festivities. After all, the only way I was able to obtain an invitation was through work. You see,
my boss wanted me to write an article on Gatsby's party. I was refused at first but my boss knows
some things about me that I do not under any circumstances want exposed. Okay, so back to the
party. I decided to that the faster I talked to Gatsby the better so I went to go find him. I thought
the best place to start was out in the garden where I thought he would be conversing with his
guests. I walked to the garden avoiding eye contact and feigned conversations with the people
around me. As I searched the garden for Gatsby, I quietly listened for all the bits of gossip the
partygoers were discussing. Probably the most interesting story was that Gatsby was having an
affair with a married woman. The couple believed that the woman was none other than Miss
Baker. I knew this rumour wasn't completely true. Gatsby was indeed having an affair with
someone but she wasn't married and she wasn't Miss Baker. In fact, you know this person quite
well but, I won't tell you who it is so don't even think of asking me. Anyways, I searched the garden
for Gatsby but he was nowhere to be found. I then

My Day With My Best Friend
After a long stressful test, I was going to spend the day with my best friend, Katherine, for the
first time after, so long now that her mom trusted me more. "Honk!'' was the sound I heard that
signaled me that Katherine's dad was here. She opened the door, as usual because she was so
courteous to me at school. I got into the rusty gray Honda. Once I got into the car I knew it was
out of my comfort zone because it was my first time meeting Katherine's Dad outside of school.
"Hello, Katherine 's dad," I said tentatively. He responded back with a simple hello and simply
resumed his talk with Katherine as if she had never left the car. They were talking, so quick I had
no idea what to do, so I kept quiet the whole car ride and looked out the window. The whole car
ride was of a foreign language I had barely heard Katherine speak at school, when her mom, my
5th grade math teacher came around. Now as if she had been liberated from those chains that kept
her from speaking her native language, she spoke endlessly with her dad. We arrived at our
destination and to my surprise, it was a church. I had never my life been to church on a Saturday
afternoon, most likely because my mom and I only had time to come to church on SundayВґs.So
many things were happening at the same time in the same room where Katherine's dad left us.
There was a karate class happening right in front of us while some feet in front there were tables
with roses, string, markers, all scattered up.

Personal Narrative Essay : My Greatest Adventure
It took me a while to realize that I could've never imagined something like this. It was a cool
morning, the sun hadn't even risen, and we had already begun the adventure of a lifetime. I would
like to take the time to tell you my story, the story of my greatest adventure.
It was 4:35 am when we left for Algonquin Park. We were the only ones on the road. The three
hours went by quickly, and quietly. Besides the fact this adventure was my birthday present, the
real reason I wanted to go was to find some moose and I did just that when we entered the Park.
Slowly driving down Highway 60, we looked but had no luck. No moose for today but three more
days of adventure awaits.
We pulled up to the portage store at 8 am, parked the car and grabbed our bags, canoe, and walked
across the Highway to an opening in the forest, where the lake becomes a river. This was the most
exciting part of all, getting to step foot in the canoe! I sat in the canoe, as my dad passed me the
bags. It was my job to keep the canoe balanced and prevent it from tipping. After fifteen minutes
the boat had been packed, and it was now time to set off. The first few paddles were smooth, then
the wind arrived. Luckily most of the wind was coming from behind us and even though the water
was choppy, it couldn't have been a better day for our adventure to begin.
We continued to paddle for two hours and arrived at our first portage. The portage was 250m from
Ragged Lake to Smoke Lake. This portage was through a small clearing in the forest and even
though it was a clearing, you needed to watch for bears and moose who roamed the woods. The
first time we walked through the trail, I took my bag, the paddles, and both our lifejackets. Next,
we walked back and took the bear barrel and my dad's backpack. After lugging everything to the
other Lake we decided to take a small break to drink some water, and eat some sandwiches and off
we went again!
Next, we discovered the real beauty of Algonquin Park, the scenery. I took many pictures and soon
we arrived at our second and last portage, "Devil's Staircase". This portage was given its name after,
many previous campers attempted to climb this steep pathway. After 2 long trips, my father checked

Personal Narrative: The Great Outdoors
The Great Outdoors
The sun was glistening through the tall, swaying pines. To the right of the trail, a gentle river
flowed softly down towards the mouth of the lake. Walking across the rickety wooden bridge, I
inhaled a deep breath of refreshingly crisp mountain air. The sun beat down on me as I made my
way across the bridge and back onto the well–used hiking trail. The ambient sounds of chirping
birds, babbling water, and the croaks of several frogs filled my ears as I made my way around the
bend. As I entered the mouth of the forest, I could see my father standing in the middle of the path,
glancing upwards, taking in the beauty that had began to engulf us. "We better get going." he said,
looking back at me. "There's still many miles to go." I smiled and turned, taking in one last view of
the beautiful creekside. Then, with determination, we set out to finish the challenging trek we had
started. Aside from memorable conversations and quality time with dad, hiking has affected my
personality in so many different ways. By hiking and getting outdoors, I'm challenging not only my
body, but my mind as well. Many...show more content...

life that I may be pursuing a dream or goal. I feel very blessed to have grown up in a family who
has created many pleasant memories in the wilderness. Hiking is a lifestyle for me now and it's
taught me so many important life lessons without me even noticing. I'm glad I've had so many
wonderful experiences in nature and I know that I will continue this tradition with my father for
many years to come, because there's still many more miles to go and more adventures to chase

Unreliable Narrator In The Great Gatsby Essay
The ideological concept of social hegemony, based on the stratification of class, ensures that the
ruling elite, the aristocracy, have absolute power over social institutions, with the ability to control
and determine dominant social values. "The Great Gatsby" (1925), by F. Scott Fitzgerald, is a
contemporary realism novella, which explores the tragic adventures of the titular character, Jay
Gatsby, as narrated by his neighbour and friend Nick Carraway. Fitzgerald's scathing attack upon
the selfish and frivolous values of the 1920s Jazz Age is effectively constructed through the author's
use of Carraway's distinctive voice, to develop the ironic idea of Gatsby as "great" and the
representation of the American Dream, the manipulative attitude of the aristocracy towards the
bourgeoisie and proletariat classes, and the alternate reading of Nick Carraway as an unreliable
narrator. Furthermore, "The Great Gatsby" is a Modernist text, rejecting traditional forms of literature
in favour of Fitzgerald's use of the distinct unreliability of narration within a nonlinear structure.
Audiences are encouraged to respond to the ideas and attitudes constructed through Carraway's
distinctive voice, to question the hyperbolic excess of the Jazz Age, supporting the dominant reading
of rejecting the extravagant and acquisitive corruption of the period, whilst also exploring the
alternate reading of Carraway as an unreliable narrator.
Within the construction of the ironic idea of Jay Gatsby as

"But guys we can make this fun if we tell stories to pass the time, Here, I will start." I said. And we

Opinion Essay On The Great Gatsby
In the book, The Great Gatsby, a very famous and wealthy man is told about and introduced. The
other characters in the story have very little, if any respect for this man as a person, but rather a
respect for his wealth. When other characters in the story talk negatively about him and judge him,
Nick tells them otherwise and defends Gatsby. Throughout the story, Nick can never be found
saying negative or degrading statements about Gatsby and when somebody has something negative
to say about Gatsby, Nick is there to constantly defend him. Nick never stops supporting Gatsby
with his decisions, and Gatsby trusts Nick greatly due to his loyalty and friendship. Though many of
the people in the story believe Gatsby to be a nice and interesting man, there are those who have

Though Gatsby has had many challenges throughout his life, his hard work has paid off.
Throughout the book he is seen having parties, drinking, and driving fancy cars. In Marshall
Lee's essay he is quoted as saying, "Everyone is dizzy from the champagne, jazz, speeding cars, and
soaring stock market"(Lee 3). Throughout the story Mr. Gatsby has more than a dozen parties
and seems to be enjoying life. He has live music, fancy cars, and enough money to live a great
lifetime. Who wouldn't want the life of a millionaire? The life Gatsby lives is beyond embellished,
he has a pool, a house the size of a castle, and a view on the water that is to die for. From Nick's
point of view Gatsby's life can be seen as a constant party, "On week–ends his Rolls–Royce became
an omnibus, bearing parties to and from the city between nine in the morning and long past
midnight"(Fitzgerald 39). Gatsby is always seen living a lavish lifestyle and some people believe he
is just a rich guy with a lot of money and no brains. But, in fact, he is a very smart man, he just

Personal Narrative Essay : A Trip To The Beach
It's a very warm typical July day. There is a big hurricane in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean. I can
guarantee that there are so many people going to the beach. After Joey thought that he grabbed his
necklace off his nightstand and put it around his neck and held the cross for a few seconds more
than he usually does everyday.
"Cole let's go to the beach, the waves are like 7 to 8 feet!" Joey exclaimed to Cole over the text. Joey
rode his bike over to Cole's house.
"Joey I'm asking my dad to drive us to the beach I don't want to ride my bike." Joey looks at the
waves and gets scared.
"Dude, where are we going to put our things it's packed?"
Cole unpacked the bags with the boards in them. Joey and Cole went to the shore to get their fins
and fin socks on. Joey got his fins on first and started to paddle out. The current was insane. Cole
was following Joey out to where the waves were starting to form. Joey got a nice wave and had a
barrel. The current was so strong that Joey had an idea. His idea was to go on the right side of the
jetty and tried to get pulled to the left and land where everyone else is. Cole told him before they
went to the beach because he knew that there was a current. It was not a good idea because if a
wave came, he could get smashed into it. Joey was not acting smart, so he decided to not listen to
Cole. Joey walked over to the left side of the jetty.
"Cole are you, coming?" Joey exclaimed.
Cole just ignored Joey. Joey was so excited because he

Examples Of Reliable Narrator In The Great Gatsby
The Broker of Truth A reliable narrator is one who shares thoughts and perspectives honestly, and
can be trusted to take account of important events. A reliable narrator will give great insight onto the
story and say what he is feeling. A unreliable narrator is one who shows prejudice and inaccurately
portrays the story and the characters. Nick caraway, the narrator, ofThe Great Gatsby is seen telling
the story of Jay Gatsby a bootlegger who lives an extravagant life, but he is doing so to see Daisy, a
girl who he's in love with, Nick's cousin. In the story The Great Gatsby F. Scott Fitzgerald portrays
Nick as a reliable narrator due to his honesty, trustworthiness, and his close connection with people.
Honesty is one of the most pivotal traits for a narrator to portray. Nick is a very honest man and
he often, through the novel is not afraid give his opinion. As he was introducing the novel to the
readers he gives and honest assessment of Gatsby, Nick says "Gatsby , who represented
everything for which I have unaffected scorn." (Fitzgerald 2) This displays that Nick is willing to
bring forth his opinion on Gatsby and shows that he will be honest if it is necessary. Nick is
exclaiming that his first reaction to Jay was off–putting, and he rejected his lifestyle. Nick honesty
fuels him into a friendship with Gatsby and lets the story flourish. Nick also seems to be in the thick
of things whenever something went wrong. He gets insider information throughout the story and

Great Narrative Essays

  • 1. Great Gatsby Personal Narrative Essay Personal Narrative People find Gatsby to be great but I doubt it, I'm not like any ordinary person I am a wise man with great vision like an owl looking for its prey at night. I think that there is more to this person who's called The Great Gatsby I find him as a man who is very good at deceiving people. Due to my suspicion of Gatsby I investigated further and found evidence or proof of Gatsby's fraud and unoriginal life that he created himself and fooled everyone. Gatsby is not someone that everyone has talked with or even seen and with his popularity rumours spread fast, people say that he was a German spy and studied in oxford and some believed he killed a man. During my investigation of the life Gatsby claim to have I went to his library during one of his huge parties that everyone crashes in I found interesting stuff. A person who studied in oxford must be well educated it is one of the finest if not the finest universities in the world therefore in his library I examined his books to check if they were real or not. At first I was quite shocked of what I found the books in his library were real but I checked again for anything that will help me solving this mystery right after that thought I found that Gatsby did not read any of his books he purchased, he didn't even cut the pages...show more content... I was invited to Gatsby's funeral as I expected and mentioned before that Gatsby is not a person who is loved by alot of people, people do not care about him in the funeral only Gatsby's father, Nick, a couple of servants and I who attended, Nick had a hard time inviting people no one had emotional feeling for Gatsby. I was the only guest that came both in his parties and his funeral I was the only one who really knew who was really Gatsby, even though in all my observation of Gatsby I thought Gatsby was worthy enough to attend his Get more content on HelpWriting.net

There was one thing that John wanted first and that was Alexander! I told the giant "NO! I would never give you my son!" The giant said, "Good luck getting across the river then!" I yelled after him and said, I will give you the Prince instead." The giant agreed. The giant had a daughter named Catherine. The prince and Catherine very fond of each other. • 3. Personal Narrative : The Great Gatsby Have you ever lit your pants on fire!?! Thankfully, neither have I, but I did make a fool of myself in front of my entire class. All of my teachers and classmates know that I am a slow reader, but I usually never do anything wrong. That is why it became such a shocking and hilarious experience when I finally did something wrong. I learned the hard way, through slight humiliation, that you should always follow an instructor's exact directions no matter the circumstance. During the month of May, 2017, my Language Arts class was assigned a book project. Everyone received a book and worksheets that went along with the book, which helped us understand the meanings and ideas in the book. That year we read The Great Gatsby. The teacher would...show more content... My teacher possessed a peculiar sense of humor and after she finished reading the chapter she said in a villainous tone, "It might be smart to review your worksheets for a surprise quiz tomorrow." Accompanying her evil statement was an equally evil smile that traversed her face. The evil nature of her smile even gave me goosebumps. Taking her word that there was going to be a pop quiz tomorrow, I made sure that I attained my book and worksheets to study with that night. The next day, as promised, she handed out a short pop quiz. It was not as challenging as she tried to make it sound. It presented only five multiple choice questions on it. Once we finished our quizzes, she told us to read the next chapter silently. Once I finished my quiz at the speed of light, I decided to finish other homework, since I preferred to read at home anyway. So while the rest of my class was reading, I worked on homework. Thirty minutes later, I completely finished all of my other assignments, so I decided to start reading the chapter. After nearly two paragraphs in, my teacher interrupted the class to see if everyone finished reading the chapter. Unknown to me, the chapter was fairly short and everyone, but me, finished it. Raising my hand slowly, I told her that I had not finished reading. Everyone in my class turned around and stared at me. The teacher asked me how far I was in the chapter and how much time I needed to Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 4. Descriptive Essay On The Great Gatsby The Great Gatsby, by Francis Scott Fitzgerald is an amazing novel that thank god it was turn into a movie. It is probably one of my favorite movies of all time. Probably because it starts one of my favorites actors of all time like the great Leonardo DiCaprio. Being that this novel is so well known, so there is going to be many opinions about it. There is an extra of material that has been written on The Great Gatsby. To me one of the most interesting aspect that The Great Gatsby brings is the setting, which is during the 1920's, and how this movie represents the life of the great Fitzgerald during this same time period. "In the 1920's and 1930s F. Scott Fitzgerald was equally famous as a writer and as a celebrity author whose lifestyle seemed to symbolize the two decades" (Fitzgerald, p. 2147). The movie is narrated by Nick Carraway, who moved to New York from the mid–west. Nick moved to West Egg, which is a place where rich people lived. He bought a small house next to none other than Jay Gatsby mansion. Nick is later invited by Gatsby itself to one of his parties, where Gatsby tells Nick that him and Daisy were in love while Gatsby was in the war. Later Nick arranged a meeting between Gatsby and Daisy, who turned out to be Nick's cousin. Daisy's husband, Tom get suspicious of daisy's affair with Gatsby. Because of this, Tom arranged a meeting to confront Gatsby in a hotel room. On the way back from this confrontation, Gatsby and Daisy get into an accident killing Myrtle Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 5. Write An Essay On The Great Gatsby And then, a bold English naturalist and geologist dares disturb the peace by publishing a 502–page piece of scientific literature that introduces us to the scientific theory of evolution through natural selection. The culprit's name is Charles Darwin, the book in question is titled On The Origin of Species, and some people see this as an attempt at proving that God does not exist. On The Origin of Species was as controversial in 1859 as Galileo Galilei's heliocentric theory was in 1615, and for much the same reason: it threatened the authority of the church by challenging religious views that were set in stone. Darwin's work was as accepted as it was detracted, though Darwin didn't come under as much heat as the authors of other historically contentious works. It generated much discussion in the areas of science, religion, and philosophy; it forced Darwin to make enemies and friends; it is now seen as a seminal work in the field of evolutionary biology. On The Origin of Species is a piece of literature that inarguably shaped history....show more content... Let us examine: In 1925, F. Scott Fitzgerald published his magnum opus, The Great Gatsby, a work which is considered a timeless literary classic and has been given the title "Great American Novel." Aside from being a stern warning regarding the American Dream, it explores themes of debauchery, moral decay, and social change, all characteristics of the Roaring Twenties. Fitzgerald was inspired by the garish culture that surrounded him in the 1920s, an era of economic prosperity, bootlegging, and societal developments; he incorporated all these elements into a novel overflowing with symbolism and references to issues or trends unique to that decade. • 6. Cage Bird and How to Say Nothing in 500 Words To truly compare or justify anything to be superior to something else, you must have more than one thing to compare. When I start to review narrative and descriptive essays, I have to try to understand what separates the two. I chose to compare "Caged Bird", by Maya Angelou as my Descriptive essay and "How to say nothing in 500 words", by Paul McHenry Roberts as my narrative essay. To me these two essays set themselves apart from each other, not just because of the different styles of writers, but the meaningful message that was delivered in both essays. While both of these essays have a strong message that it delivers, but only one truly keeps my attention, answers all of my questions, and helps me to imagine every word that is in the...show more content... I could really envision what the bird was thinking of in the Caged Bird essay, the words help you to picture what you cannot see. For example, "The free bird thinks of another breeze and the trade winds soft through the sighing trees and the fat worms waiting on a dawn bright lawn and he names the sky his own", Angelou, M. (1983). I really can picture the bird imagining this or just reflecting on a past event that it experienced on an earlier day. All of the essentials for a good descriptive essay, were found in this essay, but to me the format was more familiar to the format of a poem and left me wanting more. I found myself wanting more details and a further description of what the bird was experiencing or just more to read because it actually peeked my interest as to what was going on with this bird. Good narrative essays in preparation the writer determines a purpose of the narrative, considers the audience, develops a thesis and a good plot. In addition to these tools for a good narrative, the writer also anticipates and answers possible reader questions, uses language and dialogue effectively, as well as maintains clear narrative order of the essay. How to say nothing in 500 words is the narrative essay that I picked to compare and I must say that the writer clearly knew what it took to create a great narrative essay. The writer Paul McHenry Roberts sucks you in with the title of his essay and just keeps Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 7. One hot and sunny day my parents, little brother, and I wanted to get out of the house. So we decided to got to the park and play on the playground. It was so hot outside that we were sweating just from standing but it was a great day. Not only was it was a great day but it was also a great day because it was the day I was going to ask my parents if we could get a dog. I was so excited to ask that I was getting goosebumps. I began to walk towards my parents and when I reached them I asked the question." Can we get a dog please?" Both my mama and dad looked at each other and said one day we will be able to. It wasn't a yes but it wasn't a no, so I knew that there was a chance that I could get one. The next day became one of the best days of my life and soon one of the saddest days. When I was 5 years old I got one of the best gifts any kid good ask for. I've always wanted one and was so glad when I laid eyes on her. Before I go into detail why not just start from the very beginning. One evening, my little brother and I was watching tv with my mama when I heard my mama talking to my dad on the phone saying "what you mean you have a surprise?" When I heard that, I knew that It had to be something really intriguing. Minutes later I could hear the sound of the tires running over rocks and an engine running. It turns out that It was my daddy pulling into the driveway, so I had gotten even more anxious to find out exactly what the surprise was. • 8. Narrative Essay On The Great Gatsby Last night was all a blur. It was definitely one of the most memorable night of my life. Everyone was all done up in expensive and ornate clothing. I felt so plain in my simple party dress. I silently drifted through the crowd choosing to observe the crowd rather than joining in on their festivities. After all, the only way I was able to obtain an invitation was through work. You see, my boss wanted me to write an article on Gatsby's party. I was refused at first but my boss knows some things about me that I do not under any circumstances want exposed. Okay, so back to the party. I decided to that the faster I talked to Gatsby the better so I went to go find him. I thought the best place to start was out in the garden where I thought he would be conversing with his guests. I walked to the garden avoiding eye contact and feigned conversations with the people around me. As I searched the garden for Gatsby, I quietly listened for all the bits of gossip the partygoers were discussing. Probably the most interesting story was that Gatsby was having an affair with a married woman. The couple believed that the woman was none other than Miss Baker. I knew this rumour wasn't completely true. Gatsby was indeed having an affair with someone but she wasn't married and she wasn't Miss Baker. In fact, you know this person quite well but, I won't tell you who it is so don't even think of asking me. Anyways, I searched the garden for Gatsby but he was nowhere to be found. • 9. My Day With My Best Friend After a long stressful test, I was going to spend the day with my best friend, Katherine, for the first time after, so long now that her mom trusted me more. "Honk!'' was the sound I heard that signaled me that Katherine's dad was here. She opened the door, as usual because she was so courteous to me at school. I got into the rusty gray Honda. Once I got into the car I knew it was out of my comfort zone because it was my first time meeting Katherine's Dad outside of school. "Hello, Katherine 's dad," I said tentatively. He responded back with a simple hello and simply resumed his talk with Katherine as if she had never left the car. They were talking, so quick I had no idea what to do, so I kept quiet the whole car ride and looked out the window. The whole car ride was of a foreign language I had barely heard Katherine speak at school, when her mom, my 5th grade math teacher came around. Now as if she had been liberated from those chains that kept her from speaking her native language, she spoke endlessly with her dad. We arrived at our destination and to my surprise, it was a church. I had never my life been to church on a Saturday afternoon, most likely because my mom and I only had time to come to church on SundayВґs.So many things were happening at the same time in the same room where Katherine's dad left us. There was a karate class happening right in front of us while some feet in front there were tables with roses, string, markers, all scattered up. Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 10. Personal Narrative Essay : My Greatest Adventure It took me a while to realize that I could've never imagined something like this. It was a cool morning, the sun hadn't even risen, and we had already begun the adventure of a lifetime. I would like to take the time to tell you my story, the story of my greatest adventure. It was 4:35 am when we left for Algonquin Park. We were the only ones on the road. The three hours went by quickly, and quietly. Besides the fact this adventure was my birthday present, the real reason I wanted to go was to find some moose and I did just that when we entered the Park. Slowly driving down Highway 60, we looked but had no luck. No moose for today but three more days of adventure awaits. We pulled up to the portage store at 8 am, parked the car and grabbed our bags, canoe, and walked across the Highway to an opening in the forest, where the lake becomes a river. This was the most exciting part of all, getting to step foot in the canoe! I sat in the canoe, as my dad passed me the bags. It was my job to keep the canoe balanced and prevent it from tipping. After fifteen minutes the boat had been packed, and it was now time to set off. The first few paddles were smooth, then the wind arrived. Luckily most of the wind was coming from behind us and even though the water was choppy, it couldn't have been a better day for our adventure to begin. We continued to paddle for two hours and arrived at our first portage. The portage was 250m from Ragged Lake to Smoke Lake. This portage was through a small clearing in the forest and even though it was a clearing, you needed to watch for bears and moose who roamed the woods. The first time we walked through the trail, I took my bag, the paddles, and both our lifejackets. Next, we walked back and took the bear barrel and my dad's backpack. After lugging everything to the other Lake we decided to take a small break to drink some water, and eat some sandwiches and off we went again! Next, we discovered the real beauty of Algonquin Park, the scenery. I took many pictures and soon we arrived at our second and last portage, "Devil's Staircase". This portage was given its name after, many previous campers attempted to climb this steep pathway. After 2 long trips, my father checked Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 11. Personal Narrative: The Great Outdoors The Great Outdoors The sun was glistening through the tall, swaying pines. To the right of the trail, a gentle river flowed softly down towards the mouth of the lake. Walking across the rickety wooden bridge, I inhaled a deep breath of refreshingly crisp mountain air. The sun beat down on me as I made my way across the bridge and back onto the well–used hiking trail. The ambient sounds of chirping birds, babbling water, and the croaks of several frogs filled my ears as I made my way around the bend. As I entered the mouth of the forest, I could see my father standing in the middle of the path, glancing upwards, taking in the beauty that had began to engulf us. "We better get going." he said, looking back at me. "There's still many miles to go." I smiled and turned, taking in one last view of the beautiful creekside. Then, with determination, we set out to finish the challenging trek we had started. Aside from memorable conversations and quality time with dad, hiking has affected my personality in so many different ways. By hiking and getting outdoors, I'm challenging not only my body, but my mind as well. Many...show more content... I feel very blessed to have grown up in a family who has created many pleasant memories in the wilderness. Hiking is a lifestyle for me now and it's taught me so many important life lessons without me even noticing. • 12. Unreliable Narrator In The Great Gatsby Essay The ideological concept of social hegemony, based on the stratification of class, ensures that the ruling elite, the aristocracy, have absolute power over social institutions, with the ability to control and determine dominant social values. "The Great Gatsby" (1925), by F. Scott Fitzgerald, is a contemporary realism novella, which explores the tragic adventures of the titular character, Jay Gatsby, as narrated by his neighbour and friend Nick Carraway. Fitzgerald's scathing attack upon the selfish and frivolous values of the 1920s Jazz Age is effectively constructed through the author's use of Carraway's distinctive voice, to develop the ironic idea of Gatsby as "great" and the representation of the American Dream, the manipulative attitude of the aristocracy towards the bourgeoisie and proletariat classes, and the alternate reading of Nick Carraway as an unreliable narrator. Furthermore, "The Great Gatsby" is a Modernist text, rejecting traditional forms of literature in favour of Fitzgerald's use of the distinct unreliability of narration within a nonlinear structure. Audiences are encouraged to respond to the ideas and attitudes constructed through Carraway's distinctive voice, to question the hyperbolic excess of the Jazz Age, supporting the dominant reading of rejecting the extravagant and acquisitive corruption of the period, whilst also exploring the alternate reading of Carraway as an unreliable narrator. Within the construction of the ironic idea of Jay Gatsby as Get more content on HelpWriting.net

When our bus driver came back onto the bus he exclaimed "The gas station is out of gasoline so we will stay here overnight." Then, everyone in the bus started grunting and moaning. "But guys we can make this fun if we tell stories to pass the time, Here, I will start." I said. And we began telling each other our stories. "Can we please adopt this one, Mom? Pretty please, he is so cute! With his bright green eyes and his pink little nose," said Jacob, a thirteen year old boy with red hair. "After this we will be pretty much bankrupt," said Jacob's mom, with her deep blue eyes staring into Jacob's "Please just this one thats all," said Jacob "Ok but promise me that you will take responsibility of him by taking care of him," said Jacob's mom. And they strutted to the individual behind the counter. When they got back home with their new puppy they decided to name him Spot due to a cinnamon–colored spot on his back. The next morning, when Jacob woke up he noticed that Spot's nose is not the same shade of pink. In fact, it is quite pale. "Mom we need to take spot to the vet now!" screamed Jacob wistfully. "Ok, I will get Spot while you get in the car," replied Mom. When they got to their destination, Jacob sprinted out of the car and went to the vet's office and almost immediately the vet said "Spot is going to need surgery, do you have insurance?" • 14. Opinion Essay On The Great Gatsby In the book, The Great Gatsby, a very famous and wealthy man is told about and introduced. The other characters in the story have very little, if any respect for this man as a person, but rather a respect for his wealth. When other characters in the story talk negatively about him and judge him, Nick tells them otherwise and defends Gatsby. Throughout the story, Nick can never be found saying negative or degrading statements about Gatsby and when somebody has something negative to say about Gatsby, Nick is there to constantly defend him. Though Gatsby has had many challenges throughout his life, his hard work has paid off. Throughout the book he is seen having parties, drinking, and driving fancy cars. In Marshall Lee's essay he is quoted as saying, "Everyone is dizzy from the champagne, jazz, speeding cars, and soaring stock market"(Lee 3). Throughout the story Mr. Gatsby has more than a dozen parties and seems to be enjoying life. He has live music, fancy cars, and enough money to live a great lifetime. Who wouldn't want the life of a millionaire? The life Gatsby lives is beyond embellished, he has a pool, a house the size of a castle, and a view on the water that is to die for. From Nick's point of view Gatsby's life can be seen as a constant party, "On week–ends his Rolls–Royce became an omnibus, bearing parties to and from the city between nine in the morning and long past midnight"(Fitzgerald 39). "Cole let's go to the beach, the waves are like 7 to 8 feet!" Joey exclaimed to Cole over the text. Joey rode his bike over to Cole's house. "Joey I'm asking my dad to drive us to the beach I don't want to ride my bike." Joey looks at the waves and gets scared. "Dude, where are we going to put our things it's packed?"
