Essay on Gay Rights Movement
Gay Rights Movement Have you ever thought how much progress the LGBT community has made
and how it affects other people? The gay rights movement was and is currently a movement that
"strives to end all discrimination towards the LGBT community" (Redlingshafer). As early as
1924, the Society for Human Rights in Chicago becomes United States' earliest known gay rights
organization ("Milestones in the American Gay Rights Movement"). However, most people
recognize the Stonewall riot in 1969 as being the beginning of the gay rights movement. Almost
ninety years later, society and the government have progressed over time and are still growing.
Harvey Milk, author of "The Hope Speech", was a politician who led a portion of the gay rights

Also people should realize that gays should have the same rights and privileges as straight people.
In addition, Milk tries to encourage the gay community to step up and speak, use their voices. In the
article, "The LGBT Moment Must Look Past Gay Marriage, the author talks about how other things
are important in the LGBT community than just the issue of marriage. Redlingshafer speaks on the
issue of how hate crimes are occurring in the workforce and how there sometimes not as many
benefits that gay people or transgender people have that they should have as they are citizens too.
The author states, "In 39 states one can be fired for being transgender. Not many people are aware
of this; supporters of the movement need to publicize that sexual orientation has no bearing on how
someone can do their job" (Redlingshafer). From this quote, one could only assume that we should
already have rights in the work force for all people, gay, straight, transgender, right? Wrong. There
are work places all over America that still have not given rights that everyone deserves, to these
citizens.
Milk wrote the Hope Speech for all that wanted to change the ways of the issues expressed in the
gay community and outside of it as well. The intended audience was both gay and straight civilians.
Moreover, Milk stated in this speech, "Unless you have dialogue,

Most people believe that they deserve the rights that they are granted by the government. An
upstanding citizen who pays their taxes, serves their community and abides by the law should be
afforded the rights of an American. However, not all citizens are afforded equal rights. Gay and
lesbians are consistently denied rights that are typically taken for granted by the average American.
Specifically, gay and lesbian couples are denied the right to marry even if they are upstanding
citizens and are held at an unfair disadvantage solely because of their sexual orientation. This
discrimination must stop because gay and lesbian couples are...show more content...
There are an enormous amount of children out there who got left behind by their parents and just
need a loving family. Homosexuals can fulfill that need for these deprived children and have no
other choice but to adopt because they cannot reproduce by themselves. Studies show that kids
raised by homosexual parents are knowledgeably the same, if not more advanced, than kids raised
by heterosexual parents. Giving a child a home is the right thing to do if you're gay or not, so
being a gay parent should not be looked down upon. In addition to the last paragraph, the ones who
suffer the greatest repercussions of such prejudices are the children of gay and lesbian couples.
Non–biological children of gays and lesbians cannot receive survivor benefits if the deceased
partner did not legally adopt them. But how is this related to whether or not homosexuals should be
allowed to marry? Same–sex couples do have the privilege of adopting children to begin a family of
their own. However, they are often rejected because of their unmarried status. Even if the
government does not wish to provide some financial security for homosexual couples, it should not
punish the children of such relationships. The government directly discriminates against the children
of same–sex marriages by not allowing them the same rights as children who have heterosexual
parents. The procreation

The LGBT community has made progress towards gaining more rights in recent years, although it
has been an uphill battle. In the past year alone LGBT marriage has been legalized in Australia,
Malta, and Germany, with the legalization of LGBT marriage in the U.S. in 2015 also being a
resounding success. In addition, LGBT rights have also become a greater discussion topic in
households, radio shows, and broadcasts around the world. However, while a lot of progress has
been made, LGBT individuals and their allies are still struggling for the basic human rights they
deserve.
Discrimination feels like a relic of the past––something Americans struggled against and that was
outlawed in the 1960s. But this was not the case for LGBT individuals. Today, in America, land of
the free and the home of the brave, a lesbian can be fired simply for being gay. A gay couple can be
refused a wedding cake for the most important day in their life. A gay couple could be refused
their right to adopt a child. Much of this discrimination is chalked up to a concept called "religious
freedom." Religious freedom is the right to deny service based on the idea that it conflicts with the
business owner's religious beliefs, and has been used most recently to defend discrimination against
LGBT people. The world has heard this argument many times before. According to the LA Times,
"1960s...a small chain of barbecue restaurants in South Carolina, said that its owner's freedom of
religion would be violated if

Gay Rights
Two men are walking down the street very peacefully until they decide to kiss one another right
out in the open. Some people look upon this as weird and others look upon it in disgust. Some
even get angry about it. Is there a problem with what these men just did? Should they be left alone
or reprimanded for what they have done? The issue of gay rights is very cloudy in our great nation.
Most of this is due to the problems with the issue, the reasons for controversy, and pros and cons of
the issue.
First of all, both sides have too many problems with gay rights for there to be a common ground on
the issue. The biggest problem I find with the whole thing is the problem is not just fought by words,

All who oppose state that marriage is the holy joining of a man and a woman, not a man and a
man. Secondly, the question of whether gays should be able to adopt children is also a problem.
According to the American Academy of Pediatrics "...gay couples can provide the loving, stable
and emotionally healthy family lives that children need" (Adoption). But, "Family values
advocates have attacked the policy, accusing doctors' group of using faulty science to advance a
gay agenda" (Adoption). The third issue is whether or not gays are born the way they are or if it
is genetic. This of all the issues would help to shape the decisions of both sides of the issue. Tony, a
gay student at Valencia Community College states, "I know many gay people, sometimes it depends
on the individual person, I personally think that I was born gay" (Tony).
Lastly, each one of these issues of controversy has its good and bad points. To get a better view on
both sides of the issue I interviewed two homosexual males who have differing opinions on the
issue. On the issue of gay marriage, Brian had this to say: "Since gay people tend not to stay
together as long, I see no reason for them to be married in the first place" (Brian). The second
interviewee, Brandon, responded with: "I believe gays should have the right to marry, because if a

The Fight for Gay Rights
63 percent of all surveyed Americans responded in favor of gays when asked if same–sex
relationships were morally acceptable, based on a 2017 study (statistica) . As it is commonly
known, gays are people who choose to be in relationships with members of the same sex. The gay
rights movement is the fight in which the individuals battle for their freedom to advance these
relationships whether it is to marriage or simply so that homophobia does not stand in their way. The
gay life style is seen as morally unacceptable in the eyes of some because of religious or traditional
values (gay rights). Despite the reality that the gay community still copes with oppression in society,
the gay rights movement has made tremendous accomplishments throughout history, furthering the
thinking of the public and catalyzing awareness of the need for tolerance.
To fully understand how this movement has developed and prospered, it is important to know the
roots of these issues in history. The very first societies to have dealed with this were the Romans,
Greeks, Jews' who all had very different viewpoints on gay rights in the 1500s. The Greeks were not
opposed to homosexuality and dealed with it like it was a natural part of life. This is shown in the
way that Greek art work shows homosexual acts, and Greek writers wrote stories and poems about it
(Oliver 15). Concerning romans, homosexuality was legal in

Argumentative Essay On Gay Rights
In the constitution of the United States of America, the Supreme Court is given the mandate
checking the action of the President and Congress. It also includes solving disputes of the appealed
cases of the circuit courts. Cases are done by the jury, a team of justices that come out with their
own rulings where the majority ruling matters. A case in point is an interest group, such as the
human rights activist group HRIG, who feel that the LGBT group is treated unfairly by provision of
the constitution and whom seek clarification. Considering every judgment is made on the evidence
presented, and the legal doctrines and the presidential application of laws of the previous cases,
equality should seem guaranteed. However, the jury is always guided by the jurisprudential
philosophy that is dependent on the votes of the Supreme Court justices. Sometimes there comes a
time when the Supreme Court has a 5–4 decision that needs an interception with a median justice
that will give a decision that is neither too much conservative nor too much liberal. This concept
has come to be known as the swing vote, which is pivotal in deciding a decisive case, in which case
an LGBT decision on gay marriage could become a great deal.
Their can be instances where there is lack of judicial consensus when some of the justices hold a
given view on the case presented while the others are dissenting. The dissenting justices provide an
opinion of their position on why they disagree with the position of

Do you think homosexuals deserve the same rights we (straight people) do? People having
homophobia, and people who discriminate against gays, make it very hard for homosexuals to live in
peace. People all over the world have their different views on whether or not homosexuals should
have rights, and with that many people who are mean, judgmental, and discriminate against
homosexuals. Most homosexuals cannot be themselves and cannot "come out of the closet," because
of the mean actions that come from other people and communities around them. Homosexuals

Homosexual's lives are basically ruined because they spent everything they had to learn and train to
be in the armed forces to protect our country and now they are being kicked out left and right just
because of their sexual orientation. A woman is her 40's, Lisa Young, had 50,000 dollars to her name
in the military, with no job experience outside the military, when she was discharged, this left her
worried that she would be blocked from re–entering the military because of her age (Conant 2). After
she was discharged, she lost all of her money that she earned by being in the armed forces. It is
really sad because so many talented service men and women like, pilots, linguists, and trained
gunners, sit on the sidelines, while watching the military loosen their restrictions on high–school
drop–outs and former drug users (convicted felons), into the armed forces (Conant 3). Why would
they rather former convicted felons and even high–school drop–outs in the military, rather than
homosexuals, who would most likely be more loyal and trusting than convicted felons especially?
Homosexuals are offended because they were some of the people that fought courageously to end
things like slavery, colonialism, and segregation (for African Americans), and yet even as the gays

Is it proper for gays to use the female CR and lesbians to use the male CR? Would it be proper to

gays and lesbians must observe ethical standards as well as conform to accepted social behavior

I could not understand these arguments, what ever their views the fact still remains gays will
remain as gays and will not be changed by his outward looks and personality it cannot change his
gender unless he undergo sex change and there is a court order changing his sex from male to female.
In the minds of many people, same–sex relationships is and will not be accepted here in the
Philippines being a Catholic country and there is a clear border between men and women and no
cross–over in between. This may be understandable given the way most of us have been raised, but
discomfort doesn't justify discrimination. Discrimination only applies when they will not be allowed
to enjoy basic rights given to men and women.
On the legal point of view, rights is not absolute, even the use of the five senses has its limitation
to. Even when a woman shows a man her breast voluntarily still the man cannot touch it, we must
not extend our arm to touch it or even taste it. What is being shown is good for our eyes only as we
enjoy seeing it with the use of our sense of sight and nothing else.

To contravene God and the bible must be the incipient trend since homosexuals celebrate it and feel
that is it ok to get espoused under God. Marriage is a sacred commitment between man and woman
and the legalization of gay espousement threatens the Americans religious rights. This topic matters
because Christians feel as if getting married under God is an act of dishonor and that it is irrelevant.
Marriage should stay between a man and woman because that is verbalized in the bible, children

Once the law is set there's nothing more we can do about it. Although I strongly feel that this

only fix the legal aspect of it. The amendment of equal rights state that "Equality of rights under
the law shall not be denied or abridged by the United States or by any state on account of sex."
The only way to even try to change that is to write a petition against the amendment, but of course
that would take years and a lot of reasoning behind it. Although I do believe that marriage should
stay between a man and a woman, it is hard to defend every religious persons beliefs and the

Lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT) social movements is a political ideology and
social movement that advocate for the full acceptance of LGBT people in society. There have been
historical changes in the United States that has excelled the movement a step closer towards
equality. From the repeal of the discriminatory policy, Don't Ask, Don't Tell in 2010, allowing
Americans to serve openly without fear or dismissal, to same sex marriage legalized nationwide in
2015, a historic day for gay right, unforgetable progression took place. Despite the great successes, to
America's disfortune, recent political events demonstrates attack on the LGBT community.
Specifically, the transgender ban in military participation and new health care implications have
demonstrated misconception and discrimination on gender identity through lack of political LGBT
representation and lack of LGBT knowledge exhibited in society.
Our honorous military soldiers are national heroes that fight and protect our great land, air and sea.
Nonetheless, On July 26, 2017 Trump tweeted: "After consultation with my Generals and military
experts, please be advised that the United States Government will not accept or allow Transgender
individuals to serve in any capacity in the U.S. Military. Our military must be focused on decisive
and overwhelming victory and cannot be burdened with the tremendous medical costs and disruption
that transgender in the military would entail. Thank you."
This is a dramatic turn from last June in which Former secretary of Defense Ashton Carter
announced that transgender individuals would be able to serve openly in the military. In fact, he
even issued guidance for medical care for transgender soldiers, including medical costs covering
transitional change. In result, the military recognized not to discharge or deny members based on
their gender identity. The full policy was suppose to take effect July 1, 2017. However, at the end
of June, Secretary of Defense Jim Marris announced there be a six month delay to review the plan.

Although their have been many mistakes made in the past regarding such human rights issues as

homophobia leads to, as Pharr depicts it, a "… rejection of friends, threats of loss of

Hate crimes against homosexuals have been somewhat noticed by certain important individuals in
the government. In the Executive Branch, President Obama signed the Hate Crime Prevention Act
into law that protects a person's identity in respect to their sexual orientation. Even though we are
making progress, it is still a serious matter that has to be further addressed. Prejudicial thoughts of
homosexuals have to be eradicated and furthermore forgotten to allow the acceptance. Hate crimes
against homosexuals are still a serious issue and have led to the discrimination of lesbians and gays
in the work force. (Hunt,2012)
In the work place, there is an increasing percentage of lesbians and gays suffering from
discrimination everyday. Due to their sexual orientation, some individuals are being fired and are

Throughout US History, LGBTQ+ people have faced violence and discrimination not just from their
fellow Americans, but from our government as well, leading to a timeline of hiding in shame,
silence, and suffering prejudice with little to no outcry. The earliest colonies made sure to
criminalize sodomy with punishments being as harsh as death, most famously the Virginia and
Connecticut colonies. The 1800s saw extreme backlash against the first American publishings with
queer characters and plotlines, as well as the term "crime against humanity" first used in the US
criminal code in part against homosexuals. Crossdressing was seen worthy of imprisonment and
corporal punishment. Tighter and tighter restrictions were placed on the putative perverts, so–called
by the federal and state governments. However, after hundreds of years of phobia and hatred,
change in the US started coming around after the turn of the 20th century. We were fed up, and
queer people across the nation began standing up to fight for their rights as Americans. Police raids
on known gay hangout spots and establishments for homosexual comradery were common, making
the few places it was safe to be gay as dangerous for them as anywhere else. Unsurprisingly, queer
americans were getting tired of this ever–looming risk of violence and arrest. In 1969, in the early

"Gay rights are just one of the social issues I'm interested in. I think that people might be less tense
about it if we would all accept the fact that not everyone is wired the same way." (Charlene Harris)
Injustice supervenes quotidian, and as citizens, we acquiesce. Homosexual, Does that antagonize
you? The aura shifts. Homosexual unity is considered illegitimate for clueless, feeble–minded
community, but why? A robust majority of the society, commencement would mention religion.
The Bible declares that a marriage should be between man and woman. How can you be a
homosexual, but go to the sanctuary and accolade God? It is conceivable. Antecedent, the bible
says we should show fondness to one and other, yet why do we hesitate to homosexuals?
Individuals classified as homosexual are seen as an atrocity. Personally, we obliterate the certitude
homosexuals are human beings. Yet, privately seem to classify ourselves as humans after we are
critics to them. Homosexuals are the proposition, is it identical to heterosexual people? On June
26, 2015, Gay marriage was legalized, but not everybody was accepting of it, and some turned to
violence to voice their opinion. Marriage! What is a marriage? Two people falling inlove and tying
the knot? I know what a marriage is, why are you questioning me, it is between a woman and a man.
It's the unity of them becoming one. What about homosexuals? You grow up thinking a man belongs
to a woman and they eventually get married, however, that is not always appropriate. For example,
we say, "all humans are equal" or "we don't discriminate", nevertheless yet a union has a dilemma
with homosexuals getting married. Take this in consideration, homosexuals pledge allegiance, fight
for our country, and pay taxes, just like a heterosexual would so why be against homosexual
marriage? Think about this, the homosexual woman or man is fighting for a country that barely
supports his/her unity.
Love is a strong connection between people. Individuals, claims that homosexuals do not have

Gay rights and marriage equality has always been a major issue. Not only in the United States, but
all throughout various cultures in the world. One of the main reasons why it is not widely accepted
is due to religious or cultural reasons. Thankfully, more people have become more accepting of it
and keeping an open mind about it. As of June 26th, 2015, gay marriage has has finally been
legalized in all 50 states. However, there are still people who do not agree with it and still try to
vote against it. Some Americans even want laws made to ban same–sex marriage and relations again.
Although the legalization of same–sex marriage has been accomplished, most people continue to
fight against those who still discriminate against the LGBT community. Around 40 years ago,
marriage equality was a lot less accepted than it is today. In 1977, Gallup conducted a poll in
America. The poll was based off of how many people thought that same–sex relations should be
legalized, rather than same–sex marriage. According to Gallup, "Americans have consistently been
more likely to say that same–sex relations should be legal than to say that gay marriage should be
legally valid, suggesting that the marriage question pushes a moral, religious or cultural boundary
for some people that gay relationships do not". (McCarthy, 2017) The percentage of Americans who
thought that same–sex relations should be legal was only 43%. The majority support for same–sex
relations was in 2001, at 54%. Since 2001,

towards same–sex marriage have been successful in 26 countries; with most being in Western Europe,
North America, and South America (Pew...show more content...
This acceptance can come in the form of society's acceptance of LGBT+ people along with the
feeling of being welcomed and safe in one's community. This acceptance makes it much easier to
live one's daily life and allows people to pursue their passions whatever they may be. A 1999/2000
European Values Study Survey described that 13% of Germans would not want homosexual
neighbours. Sweden was the most progressive with 6% saying they would not want homosexual
neighbours (Weyembergh and Sinziana, 19). This acceptance ofhomosexuality has actually
improved where a 2013 study from the Pew Research Center, found that when Germans were asked
whether society should accept homosexuality: 11% said no and 87% said yes, with 2% remaining
neutral. In comparison, when Canada was asked: 14% said no, 80% said yes, with 6% remaining
neutral (Pew Research

Gay Rights Essay
Fighting for Gay Rights In our society we should protect LGBT rights it's unfair that we treat
them differently. We should make more changes about how we treat them they should be allowed
to go as they please or shop at places they want to shop at. Without being told they can not go in a
certain restaurant because the way they are. People should not discriminate the reason being is you
never know what that person been through or why they are like that. And it's hard for a person to
actually be themselves without people telling them that it's a phase or they are corrupt. In our
society we should not have to fight for our rights or act accordingly to what people think of us. In the
LGBT community they have a high rate for...show more content...
Which is not true they will love they child just like the opposite sex. We support other things that are
going on in the world but why not support gay marriage ? or fight for they rights?. They are high
risk for suicide rates the reason being they feel like they could not please everyone. They feel like
they failed to make everyone happy and reach their standards. My concern are the innocent
people that are going through this. The LGBT community already go through enough some of
their families disown them because of who they are which is ridiculous. People make them feel
guilty because loving another sex is a sin which it is not. Our society thinks children needs a
mother and father not a two mothers or two fathers. They are not allowed to serve our country
which is heartbreaking because the government feel like they are not fit to do so. Many states
still have a ban on gay marriage until this day. Before President Obama left office he promised to
help the LGBT community to gain their rights and also appeal the DADT. Our government should
take more procession with their rights we have hateful people out there and would like to
terminate them. In 2016 the military lifted the ban on transgender people. Which is a start I feel
that it should not be a option to pick and choose who to fight for our country. Also I feel that if a
person love someone no matter what color , shape , size , gender , etc you should not stop them
from finding their true love.

Essay On Gay Rights

  • 1. Essay on Gay Rights Movement Gay Rights Movement Have you ever thought how much progress the LGBT community has made and how it affects other people? The gay rights movement was and is currently a movement that "strives to end all discrimination towards the LGBT community" (Redlingshafer). As early as 1924, the Society for Human Rights in Chicago becomes United States' earliest known gay rights organization ("Milestones in the American Gay Rights Movement"). However, most people recognize the Stonewall riot in 1969 as being the beginning of the gay rights movement. Almost ninety years later, society and the government have progressed over time and are still growing. Harvey Milk, author of "The Hope Speech", was a politician who led a portion of the gay rights ...show more content... Also people should realize that gays should have the same rights and privileges as straight people. In addition, Milk tries to encourage the gay community to step up and speak, use their voices. In the article, "The LGBT Moment Must Look Past Gay Marriage, the author talks about how other things are important in the LGBT community than just the issue of marriage. Redlingshafer speaks on the issue of how hate crimes are occurring in the workforce and how there sometimes not as many benefits that gay people or transgender people have that they should have as they are citizens too. The author states, "In 39 states one can be fired for being transgender. Not many people are aware of this; supporters of the movement need to publicize that sexual orientation has no bearing on how someone can do their job" (Redlingshafer). From this quote, one could only assume that we should already have rights in the work force for all people, gay, straight, transgender, right? Wrong. There are work places all over America that still have not given rights that everyone deserves, to these citizens. Milk wrote the Hope Speech for all that wanted to change the ways of the issues expressed in the gay community and outside of it as well. The intended audience was both gay and straight civilians. Moreover, Milk stated in this speech, "Unless you have dialogue, Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 2. Argumentative Essay on Gay Rights Lauren Corey 17 October 2013 English 101 Professor Tantalo Essay 3 Love Transcends Gender Most people believe that they deserve the rights that they are granted by the government. An upstanding citizen who pays their taxes, serves their community and abides by the law should be afforded the rights of an American. However, not all citizens are afforded equal rights. Gay and lesbians are consistently denied rights that are typically taken for granted by the average American. Specifically, gay and lesbian couples are denied the right to marry even if they are upstanding citizens and are held at an unfair disadvantage solely because of their sexual orientation. This discrimination must stop because gay and lesbian couples are...show more content... There are an enormous amount of children out there who got left behind by their parents and just need a loving family. Homosexuals can fulfill that need for these deprived children and have no other choice but to adopt because they cannot reproduce by themselves. Studies show that kids raised by homosexual parents are knowledgeably the same, if not more advanced, than kids raised by heterosexual parents. Giving a child a home is the right thing to do if you're gay or not, so being a gay parent should not be looked down upon. In addition to the last paragraph, the ones who suffer the greatest repercussions of such prejudices are the children of gay and lesbian couples. Non–biological children of gays and lesbians cannot receive survivor benefits if the deceased partner did not legally adopt them. But how is this related to whether or not homosexuals should be allowed to marry? Same–sex couples do have the privilege of adopting children to begin a family of their own. However, they are often rejected because of their unmarried status. Even if the government does not wish to provide some financial security for homosexual couples, it should not punish the children of such relationships. The government directly discriminates against the children of same–sex marriages by not allowing them the same rights as children who have heterosexual parents. The procreation Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 3. Persuasive Essay On LGBT Rights The LGBT community has made progress towards gaining more rights in recent years, although it has been an uphill battle. In the past year alone LGBT marriage has been legalized in Australia, Malta, and Germany, with the legalization of LGBT marriage in the U.S. in 2015 also being a resounding success. In addition, LGBT rights have also become a greater discussion topic in households, radio shows, and broadcasts around the world. However, while a lot of progress has been made, LGBT individuals and their allies are still struggling for the basic human rights they deserve. Discrimination feels like a relic of the past––something Americans struggled against and that was outlawed in the 1960s. But this was not the case for LGBT individuals. Today, in America, land of the free and the home of the brave, a lesbian can be fired simply for being gay. A gay couple can be refused a wedding cake for the most important day in their life. A gay couple could be refused their right to adopt a child. Much of this discrimination is chalked up to a concept called "religious freedom." Religious freedom is the right to deny service based on the idea that it conflicts with the business owner's religious beliefs, and has been used most recently to defend discrimination against LGBT people. The world has heard this argument many times before. According to the LA Times, "1960s...a small chain of barbecue restaurants in South Carolina, said that its owner's freedom of religion would be violated if Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 4. Gay Rights Essay Gay Rights Two men are walking down the street very peacefully until they decide to kiss one another right out in the open. Some people look upon this as weird and others look upon it in disgust. Some even get angry about it. Is there a problem with what these men just did? Should they be left alone or reprimanded for what they have done? The issue of gay rights is very cloudy in our great nation. Most of this is due to the problems with the issue, the reasons for controversy, and pros and cons of the issue. First of all, both sides have too many problems with gay rights for there to be a common ground on the issue. The biggest problem I find with the whole thing is the problem is not just fought by words, ...show more content... All who oppose state that marriage is the holy joining of a man and a woman, not a man and a man. Secondly, the question of whether gays should be able to adopt children is also a problem. According to the American Academy of Pediatrics "...gay couples can provide the loving, stable and emotionally healthy family lives that children need" (Adoption). But, "Family values advocates have attacked the policy, accusing doctors' group of using faulty science to advance a gay agenda" (Adoption). The third issue is whether or not gays are born the way they are or if it is genetic. This of all the issues would help to shape the decisions of both sides of the issue. Tony, a gay student at Valencia Community College states, "I know many gay people, sometimes it depends on the individual person, I personally think that I was born gay" (Tony). Lastly, each one of these issues of controversy has its good and bad points. To get a better view on both sides of the issue I interviewed two homosexual males who have differing opinions on the issue. On the issue of gay marriage, Brian had this to say: "Since gay people tend not to stay together as long, I see no reason for them to be married in the first place" (Brian). The second interviewee, Brandon, responded with: "I believe gays should have the right to marry, because if a man and a woman love one another just as a man and a man love one another, you should not Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 5. Essay On Gay Rights Ereny Michael Mrs. Webber English I–H, Period 4 11 November 2017 The Fight for Gay Rights 63 percent of all surveyed Americans responded in favor of gays when asked if same–sex relationships were morally acceptable, based on a 2017 study (statistica) . As it is commonly known, gays are people who choose to be in relationships with members of the same sex. The gay rights movement is the fight in which the individuals battle for their freedom to advance these relationships whether it is to marriage or simply so that homophobia does not stand in their way. The gay life style is seen as morally unacceptable in the eyes of some because of religious or traditional values (gay rights). Despite the reality that the gay community still copes with oppression in society, the gay rights movement has made tremendous accomplishments throughout history, furthering the thinking of the public and catalyzing awareness of the need for tolerance. To fully understand how this movement has developed and prospered, it is important to know the roots of these issues in history. The very first societies to have dealed with this were the Romans, Greeks, Jews' who all had very different viewpoints on gay rights in the 1500s. The Greeks were not opposed to homosexuality and dealed with it like it was a natural part of life. This is shown in the way that Greek art work shows homosexual acts, and Greek writers wrote stories and poems about it (Oliver 15). Concerning romans, homosexuality was legal in Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 6. Argumentative Essay On Gay Rights In the constitution of the United States of America, the Supreme Court is given the mandate checking the action of the President and Congress. It also includes solving disputes of the appealed cases of the circuit courts. Cases are done by the jury, a team of justices that come out with their own rulings where the majority ruling matters. A case in point is an interest group, such as the human rights activist group HRIG, who feel that the LGBT group is treated unfairly by provision of the constitution and whom seek clarification. Considering every judgment is made on the evidence presented, and the legal doctrines and the presidential application of laws of the previous cases, equality should seem guaranteed. However, the jury is always guided by the jurisprudential philosophy that is dependent on the votes of the Supreme Court justices. Sometimes there comes a time when the Supreme Court has a 5–4 decision that needs an interception with a median justice that will give a decision that is neither too much conservative nor too much liberal. This concept has come to be known as the swing vote, which is pivotal in deciding a decisive case, in which case an LGBT decision on gay marriage could become a great deal. Their can be instances where there is lack of judicial consensus when some of the justices hold a given view on the case presented while the others are dissenting. The dissenting justices provide an opinion of their position on why they disagree with the position of Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 7. Essay about Gay Rights Do you think homosexuals deserve the same rights we (straight people) do? People having homophobia, and people who discriminate against gays, make it very hard for homosexuals to live in peace. People all over the world have their different views on whether or not homosexuals should have rights, and with that many people who are mean, judgmental, and discriminate against homosexuals. Most homosexuals cannot be themselves and cannot "come out of the closet," because of the mean actions that come from other people and communities around them. Homosexuals should have the same rights as "straight" people do, because they are human beings just like everyone else. Everyday, more and more homosexuals get discharged from the military...show more content... Homosexual's lives are basically ruined because they spent everything they had to learn and train to be in the armed forces to protect our country and now they are being kicked out left and right just because of their sexual orientation. A woman is her 40's, Lisa Young, had 50,000 dollars to her name in the military, with no job experience outside the military, when she was discharged, this left her worried that she would be blocked from re–entering the military because of her age (Conant 2). After she was discharged, she lost all of her money that she earned by being in the armed forces. It is really sad because so many talented service men and women like, pilots, linguists, and trained gunners, sit on the sidelines, while watching the military loosen their restrictions on high–school drop–outs and former drug users (convicted felons), into the armed forces (Conant 3). Why would they rather former convicted felons and even high–school drop–outs in the military, rather than homosexuals, who would most likely be more loyal and trusting than convicted felons especially? Homosexuals are offended because they were some of the people that fought courageously to end things like slavery, colonialism, and segregation (for African Americans), and yet even as the gays continue to battle against the forms of inequality that still hurts Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 8. Essay on Gay Rights vs Morality, Ethics and Law DOCTOR'S PRESCRIPTION By Santos T. AraГ±a, Ph.D. GAY RIGHT vs MORALITY, ETHICS AND LAW Is it proper for gays to use the female CR and lesbians to use the male CR? Would it be proper to allow them living together with same sexes? Most of the time I heared or even personaly observed the third sex seeking for recognition and respect. Though, respect is not asked it is voluntary given; all we need to do is to prove that we deserve to be respected. To gain respect, gays and lesbians must observe ethical standards as well as conform to accepted social behavior and right conduct. It's an accepted fact that most gays are talented and creative that is why in many occasions there is always the involvement of gays, be it in fasion, modeling,...show more content... The point of view of the Sociology professor, gays are members of the society that have rights to be respected even in the wearing of uniform and the freedom to choose where to urinate or which CR to use. I could not understand these arguments, what ever their views the fact still remains gays will remain as gays and will not be changed by his outward looks and personality it cannot change his gender unless he undergo sex change and there is a court order changing his sex from male to female. In the minds of many people, same–sex relationships is and will not be accepted here in the Philippines being a Catholic country and there is a clear border between men and women and no cross–over in between. This may be understandable given the way most of us have been raised, but discomfort doesn't justify discrimination. Discrimination only applies when they will not be allowed to enjoy basic rights given to men and women. On the legal point of view, rights is not absolute, even the use of the five senses has its limitation to. Even when a woman shows a man her breast voluntarily still the man cannot touch it, we must not extend our arm to touch it or even taste it. What is being shown is good for our eyes only as we enjoy seeing it with the use of our sense of sight and nothing else. Section 12 Art 2 of the 1987 Constitution provides, "The State recognizes the sanctity of family life and shall Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 9. The Best Arguments For Gay Rights To contravene God and the bible must be the incipient trend since homosexuals celebrate it and feel that is it ok to get espoused under God. Marriage is a sacred commitment between man and woman and the legalization of gay espousement threatens the Americans religious rights. This topic matters because Christians feel as if getting married under God is an act of dishonor and that it is irrelevant. Marriage should stay between a man and woman because that is verbalized in the bible, children are more likely to live a normal life, and religious beliefs are not being ignored. The dishonor of the essence of marriage should not be accepted. Espousement should be between a man and woman because people believe that it is more of a natural institution...show more content... Once the law is set there's nothing more we can do about it. Although I strongly feel that this particular act is wrong and shouldn't be practiced in any way, it is not up to me to stop love. The lord will make his judgment on judgment day. By taking the state out of the equation it would only fix the legal aspect of it. The amendment of equal rights state that "Equality of rights under the law shall not be denied or abridged by the United States or by any state on account of sex." The only way to even try to change that is to write a petition against the amendment, but of course that would take years and a lot of reasoning behind it. Although I do believe that marriage should stay between a man and a woman, it is hard to defend every religious persons beliefs and the discombobulated upbringing of children without changing the law. • 10. Argumentative Essay On LGBT Rights Lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT) social movements is a political ideology and social movement that advocate for the full acceptance of LGBT people in society. There have been historical changes in the United States that has excelled the movement a step closer towards equality. From the repeal of the discriminatory policy, Don't Ask, Don't Tell in 2010, allowing Americans to serve openly without fear or dismissal, to same sex marriage legalized nationwide in 2015, a historic day for gay right, unforgetable progression took place. Despite the great successes, to America's disfortune, recent political events demonstrates attack on the LGBT community. Specifically, the transgender ban in military participation and new health care implications have demonstrated misconception and discrimination on gender identity through lack of political LGBT representation and lack of LGBT knowledge exhibited in society. Our honorous military soldiers are national heroes that fight and protect our great land, air and sea. Nonetheless, On July 26, 2017 Trump tweeted: "After consultation with my Generals and military experts, please be advised that the United States Government will not accept or allow Transgender individuals to serve in any capacity in the U.S. Military. Our military must be focused on decisive and overwhelming victory and cannot be burdened with the tremendous medical costs and disruption that transgender in the military would entail. Thank you." This is a dramatic turn from last June in which Former secretary of Defense Ashton Carter announced that transgender individuals would be able to serve openly in the military. In fact, he even issued guidance for medical care for transgender soldiers, including medical costs covering transitional change. In result, the military recognized not to discharge or deny members based on their gender identity. The full policy was suppose to take effect July 1, 2017. However, at the end of June, Secretary of Defense Jim Marris announced there be a six month delay to review the plan. There was debate if such costs would hurt the "readiness or lethality" of American troops. Gay And Lesbian Rights Essay Gay And Lesbian Rights When I read the statement that said "we shouldn't devote our efforts to promoting the rights of lesbians and gay men, since there are more important and urgent human rights issues that deserve our attention…." I was taken aback. As it stands now, nothing seems more important than bringing both equality, and general acceptance, to gay and lesbian people. What is even more disturbing is that in many cases this is what is happening: homophobia leads to, as Pharr depicts it, a "… rejection of friends, threats of loss of employment, and threats upon (his) life; and I have witnessed far worse things happening to other lesbian and gay people: loss of children, beatings, rape, death".1 For this reason it is crucial that gay and lesbian rights be concentrated on as heavily as possible, even over all others forms of rights. Despite the continuing efforts that have been made on behalf of such organizations as GLAAD (Gay and Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation), homosexual people continue to face prejudice every day of their lives. Just like everyone else living sexual lives, the topic of relationship's and the role they play in their lives is an important one. The fact that such relationship–related factors like children, marriage and adoption are so easily taken away from gay and lesbian people is a major problem that needs to be dealt with, although ideally it should be treated in the exact manner as it is towards heterosexual people (who Get more content on HelpWriting.net

People will argue that they shouldn't get married because marriage is a religious ceremony and should be only for straight people. For example, according to the constitution, marriage doesn't have to be between a male and a female. I think that people just underestimate homosexuals all the time and that they don't think about their actions and what they are saying. Homosexuals have just as much privacy as any other person. Prejudicial thoughts of homosexuals have to be eradicated and furthermore forgotten to allow the acceptance. Hate crimes against homosexuals are still a serious issue and have led to the discrimination of lesbians and gays in the work force. • 15. Essay On Gay Rights Throughout US History, LGBTQ+ people have faced violence and discrimination not just from their fellow Americans, but from our government as well, leading to a timeline of hiding in shame, silence, and suffering prejudice with little to no outcry. The earliest colonies made sure to criminalize sodomy with punishments being as harsh as death, most famously the Virginia and Connecticut colonies. The 1800s saw extreme backlash against the first American publishings with queer characters and plotlines, as well as the term "crime against humanity" first used in the US criminal code in part against homosexuals. Crossdressing was seen worthy of imprisonment and corporal punishment. Tighter and tighter restrictions were placed on the putative perverts, so–called by the federal and state governments. However, after hundreds of years of phobia and hatred, change in the US started coming around after the turn of the 20th century. We were fed up, and queer people across the nation began standing up to fight for their rights as Americans. Police raids on known gay hangout spots and establishments for homosexual comradery were common, making the few places it was safe to be gay as dangerous for them as anywhere else. Unsurprisingly, queer americans were getting tired of this ever–looming risk of violence and arrest. In 1969, in the early hours of the morning of June 28th, there was a police raid on the Stonewall Inn. • 16. Argumentative Essay On Gay Rights "Gay rights are just one of the social issues I'm interested in. I think that people might be less tense about it if we would all accept the fact that not everyone is wired the same way." (Charlene Harris) Injustice supervenes quotidian, and as citizens, we acquiesce. Homosexual, Does that antagonize you? The aura shifts. Homosexual unity is considered illegitimate for clueless, feeble–minded community, but why? A robust majority of the society, commencement would mention religion. The Bible declares that a marriage should be between man and woman. How can you be a homosexual, but go to the sanctuary and accolade God? It is conceivable. Antecedent, the bible says we should show fondness to one and other, yet why do we hesitate to homosexuals? Individuals classified as homosexual are seen as an atrocity. Personally, we obliterate the certitude homosexuals are human beings. Yet, privately seem to classify ourselves as humans after we are critics to them. Homosexuals are the proposition, is it identical to heterosexual people? On June 26, 2015, Gay marriage was legalized, but not everybody was accepting of it, and some turned to violence to voice their opinion. Marriage! What is a marriage? Two people falling inlove and tying the knot? I know what a marriage is, why are you questioning me, it is between a woman and a man. It's the unity of them becoming one. What about homosexuals? You grow up thinking a man belongs to a woman and they eventually get married, however, that is not always appropriate. For example, we say, "all humans are equal" or "we don't discriminate", nevertheless yet a union has a dilemma with homosexuals getting married. Take this in consideration, homosexuals pledge allegiance, fight for our country, and pay taxes, just like a heterosexual would so why be against homosexual marriage? Think about this, the homosexual woman or man is fighting for a country that barely supports his/her unity. Love is a strong connection between people. • 17. Gay Rights Essay Gay rights and marriage equality has always been a major issue. Not only in the United States, but all throughout various cultures in the world. One of the main reasons why it is not widely accepted is due to religious or cultural reasons. Thankfully, more people have become more accepting of it and keeping an open mind about it. As of June 26th, 2015, gay marriage has has finally been legalized in all 50 states. However, there are still people who do not agree with it and still try to vote against it. Some Americans even want laws made to ban same–sex marriage and relations again. Although the legalization of same–sex marriage has been accomplished, most people continue to fight against those who still discriminate against the LGBT community. Around 40 years ago, marriage equality was a lot less accepted than it is today. In 1977, Gallup conducted a poll in America. The poll was based off of how many people thought that same–sex relations should be legalized, rather than same–sex marriage. According to Gallup, "Americans have consistently been more likely to say that same–sex relations should be legal than to say that gay marriage should be legally valid, suggesting that the marriage question pushes a moral, religious or cultural boundary for some people that gay relationships do not". (McCarthy, 2017) The percentage of Americans who thought that same–sex relations should be legal was only 43%. The majority support for same–sex relations was in 2001, at 54%. Gay Rights Arguments Anselmo PeГ±aArgument Essay The news has recently said that a few gay activists showed their celebration of their victory on their rights for gay marriage by waving an American flag. The only issue is that the American flag was altered to their liking. They decided the good old stars and stripes was no longer good enough for them so they decided to have rainbowed stripes put on top of our flag. I understand that they have rights to celebrate or marry or whatever but they should not go unpunished for making a mockery of the flag that we have U.S soldiers constantly dying to represent. One partner has Canadian citizenship while the other as German citizenship. Their decision, where would it be safer and simpler to get married and start a family? To start, the rights and protections the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, plus (LGBT+) community varies vastly from country to country. Where in some, their sexual orientation and gender identity are accepted and legal; and in others are punishable offences. To narrow the focus, this discussion will be related to sexual orientation and not gender identity. Therefore, focusing on homosexual and bisexual individuals, and those in same–sex relationships. In recent years, the LGBT+ movement has made many steps towards equal rights in terms to protection against discrimination in employment, education, and opportunities. People should not discriminate the reason being is you never know what that person been through or why they are like that. My concern are the innocent people that are going through this. The LGBT community already go through enough some of their families disown them because of who they are which is ridiculous. People make them feel guilty because loving another sex is a sin which it is not. Our society thinks children needs a mother and father not a two mothers or two fathers. They are not allowed to serve our country which is heartbreaking because the government feel like they are not fit to do so. Many states still have a ban on gay marriage until this day. Before President Obama left office he promised to help the LGBT community to gain their rights and also appeal the DADT. Our government should take more procession with their rights we have hateful people out there and would like to terminate them. In 2016 the military lifted the ban on transgender people. Which is a start I feel that it should not be a option to pick and choose who to fight for our country. Also I feel that if a person love someone no matter what color , shape , size , gender , etc you should not stop them from finding their true love. Get more content on HelpWriting.net
