AIM: To apply one’s creativity to problems concerning
others and to learn, study and help them tackle such
situations.
A very novel assignment that entails interviewing
people and understanding their problems and aims in
life and to form a comprehensive picture of their
dilemmas.
 I interviewed a colleague who is an undergraduate
engineering student.
 The good rapport I have with her helped me a lot to
figure out her ambitions, fears and reservations.
 It was more of an informal questionnaire rather than
an interview.
“I have one more year before I graduate and I still don’t know what
I want to do.”
Don’t you have a dream?
Me
“I haven’t ever dreamt of pursuing MBA or M-Tech . My dream has
been to become an archaeologist.”
Why not pursue it?
“I will but after I complete my post-graduation.”
“I am very confused as to what I want primarily mostly because I keep
doubting my capabilities.”
“I have been doing well throughout my academic career but not once do I feel
that I will be able to survive in the competitive world.”
Aren’t you being unfair to your
capabilities?
“Probably. Or at least that is what I tell myself. This pessimism makes me
doubt my success rate in doing MBA or M-Tech.”
 My friend is an introvert and never takes an initiative
though she might have a few brilliant ideas.
 Self- doubt marks her nature.
 She lacks the ability to take in failures and thus is risk
averse.
 A very hardworking person who would put in hours of
effort for a decent result.
 A very self-conscious person and hence, loses
opportunities to prove herself.
 From our conversation and my two years of knowing
her, I can confidently conclude that she has immense
potential but is afraid of recognizing it.
 A lack of enthusiasm nurtured by her risk averse
nature just ends up in sheer waste of talent.
 She needs a stimulus for everything and constant
encouragement to keep her going.
 Very deeply affected by people’s thoughts and opinions
and freely lets them dictate her actions.
 Her turmoil is a result of low trust on her abilities.
 She told me once that she fails to visualize herself in a
position where she is able to tackle a tricky, real time
engineering or managerial problem.
 I feel she just has to build her confidence, believe in
herself and then go for the stream where she finds
herself more comfortable. Instead of allowing fate to
be the player.
 A very hardworking, reliable, sincere, introverted,
academically meritorious and honest worker, she
needs to build up her confidence level, keep a tab on
the feeling of self-doubt because it will help her excel
in whichever stream she chooses to pursue without
wasting time and energy being skeptical.
Sometimes, empathizing just helps you understand
your position in life better. Many-a-times, one can
relate with the other person and learn from similar
situations.
