f a picture speaks a thousand words, then a collage will
Isurely speak a million words and I can safely stop writing
here. However, even if I write few pages, it would still fall
short of conveying our gratitude to our hosts. We started forTanjore
on 19th September with the board meeting being held in the train
enroute to Bangalore followed by evening snacks arranged by Rtn
Alagappan and Rt. Vishwanath. The rest of the night journey was
very uneventful with our gang maintaining absolute silence!! We
were received by our host PDG. Rt. Alagu Alagappan and visited
the Big Temple after freshening up.Armed with special permission
from ASI, we were treated to the engineering marvel of the Big
temple's dome.We had a first experience of the making of the world
famous bronze statues. We paid a visit to Blossom school, owned
by our gracious host Mr Alagu Alagappan who presented us with a
memento each; apart from hosting the lunch. The joint rotary
meeting started with introduction from both the sides. Rtn
Venkatesh, Rtn Alagappan, Rtn Ramkrishna were the speakers on
behalf of Mysore Midtown, while RtnAlagu Alagappan, President
of Tanjore midtown Rtn. R. Suriyakumar, Secretary Rtn.N. S.
Arunabhaskar spoke on behalf of Tanjore Midtown. Rtn. Alagu
Alagappan spoke of his association with Mysore Midtown club,
recalling the words of our Late Ex- chief minister Mr Ramkrishna
Hedge who had attended a rotary meeting at Shimoga and had
remarked that “The world would be better place had all of us been
Rotarians”. Both sides agreed that the purpose of the meeting was
to foster greater friendship between different clubs, especially at
times when clubs were getting smaller in size and a visit to a
different club at least once a year would help in learning from each
others' experience in the running of the clubs. An invitation was
extended to Tanjore Rotary Midtown members to visit mysore.
After the felicitation of the host club dignitaries in our own unique
Mysore style with sandalwood garlands and Mysore peta, followed
the fellowship and dinner where we got a chance to mingle with
them. The following morning after a visit to a few temples along
with shops selling bronze statues (and a church at Velankanni by
our Rtn Milton) we lunched at Sterling restaurant where we had a
chance to “peep” into the 1920s. We were seen off by our host Mr
Alagu Alagappan in the evening and reached mysore the next day
morning,goingour own ways withfondmemoriesofourvisit.

Mangalyaan, India's maiden Mars
mission, successfully entered the
planet's orbit today, in a historic
moment for India's space
programme. "History has been
created," said Prime Minister
Narendra Modi, who watched the
spacecraft successfully enter the
Mars orbit this morning. Here is a
quick look 10 facts about
Mangalyaan
1. India is the first country in the
world to successfully enter the Mars orbit, after the Soviet Union, United States
andEurope.
2. "The odds were stacked against us. Of the 51 missions, attempted across the
worldsofar,amere21hadsucceeded.Butwehaveprevailed,"saidPMModi.
3. Only NASA, the European Space Agency and the former USSR have been
successful in their Mars missions. The first successful mission was by NASA's

6. Mangalyaan, which is the size of a Tata Nano car, was launched on 11 May,

IW DISTRICT RALLY @ KADUR
unday 21st Sep 2014 was the day of Inner
SWheel District Rally @ Kadur. Four from
our club – President Mrs.Premilla Jain,
Mrs.Geetha Krishna, Mrs.Anupama & myself left
Mysore to Kadur early in the morning. District
Treasurer Mrs.Anuradha had left the previous day
itself. The programme started just as we reached
the venue @ 9.45am. District Chairman
Mrs.Vinitha Satish, Rotary PDG P.Narayan and
other IW district officers occupied the stage. After
the initial formalities and lighting of the lamp, there
was an informative talk on 'Polio' by PDG
Dr.Narayan. Though he had prepared for a PPT
presentation, it could not be presented due to
technical problems. A good orator that he is, he
kept the audience glued to their seats with his
statistics and valuable info on Polio. This was
followed by a quiz on Polio by Dist. Vice chairman &
Polio Plus Committee Chairman Mrs.Sudha
Prasad. Dr.Narayan then answered the questions
posed by the IW members to the best of his abilities.
Our own member Anupama put forth the question –
As to why in spite of members willingness to
participate in the program we are not able to
contribute to the 'Polio' immunization ? To this Dr.
Narayan said that WE should take up this matter
with local administration as it is a problem peculiar
to MYSORE. This is a serious thought to ponder
about.
Then a yoga presentation by 2 youngsters was
an interesting watch. Tea break followed by an
entertainment programme and games conducted
by the host club members was a treat. Prizes were
won by Mrs. Anuradha and Mrs. Premilla. Our club
won the 2nd place in Early Bird award category for
paying of the district dues. I too got an opportunity
to exchange club flags with 4 other clubs of the
district. The pink saree clad kadur members' efforts
in making the event a success was well appreciated
by all. Still in their 9th year, the initiative and the
enthusiasm of all its members is a motivation for
us. Though our return journey was with little
hiccups, it was definitely a breakaway from the
routine to chat and have fun with our dear friends.
