• A person from England who wanted to improve the churches of
England
• Led by John Winthrop
• John Winthrop hoped to start colony where Puritans could worship
as they wanted, and be an example of others.

5. Agriculture
• Cold climate and rocky soil of the land
• Because of that, New England Colonies could not easily help large
plantations

• Shipbuilder’s used tall white pine trees to make their boats
• Many people in New England were self-sufficient farmers
• Many families lived on small farms
