New Publishers for New Scientists summarizes PeerJ, a new open access publisher for the biological and medical sciences. PeerJ uses a lifetime membership model that dramatically reduces publication costs. It judges submissions solely based on technical and scientific validity. PeerJ also has a preprint server called PeerJ PrePrints that allows privacy controls to encourage participation in an experimental space for testing new features. The goal is to better align academic journals with their purpose of sharing information.
