Raichur, and Taluka Sindhnur.
• As per the Nanjundappa Committee Report (2002) the whole of Raichur
district to which Sindhnur Taluka and Walkamdini village belongs to, was
declared as socially, economically and educationally backward area.
• As per 2011 Census, Raichur district is one of the 30 most backward
districts of the country. Unhygienic environmental conditions, high disease
burden, poor health seeking behavior of the population, non- availability
of the medical facilities etc. are the main reasons for which Raichur
created the headlines in the media regarding very high prevalence of
malnutrition in children and alleged deaths because of malnutrition.
6. Demographics of Walkamdinni

• As per census data of 2011, the number of household in Walkamdinni is
271 with population of 1462 numbers.

• Each year _____ students appear for 10th. Grade exams
Post appearing and passing out there are no opportunities for the students to
get admissions in Professional colleges, for various reasons.
The core professional graduation courses recognised are – Medical,
Engineering, Chartered Accountancy.
Some of the “Real time challenges” are highlighted in the next slide………
9. Real time challenges
• The admissions to any of the core professional graduation courses are driven
by the Common Entrance Test at National and State level.
• The cost of education and the fee structure are expensive in addition to the
support cost. The courses are spread over 4 to 5 years with rigorous syllabus,
which are not within the reach of the villagers, from these economically
backward villages.
• Donations also form a part of the admissions to the medical and engineering
colleges, which are beyond the reach of the villagers.
• The other reality on the economic condition is that most of the villagers do not
own land or and not in a position to invest in cultivation of lands, with the
result, most of them along with their children students end up being laborer in
villages on daily wages.
Therefore, JRD Trust built Engineering Polytechnic College in 2010, offering Diploma
degree in Engineering for the students, to build technical skill and knowledge, to
create better job opportunities in Industries.
