8. DURABLE GOODS / USA – OCTOBER 2021
Blog – United States Durable Goods for October 2021 - https://www.slideshare.net/paulyoungcga/durable-goods-and-capital-spending-
usa-and-the-world-october-2021
Firstly, U.S. durable goods unexpectedly fell for the second straight month, down 0.5% in October. A nice rebound in
motor vehicle and parts was not enough to offset the drop in aircraft bookings. Excluding transportation, however, orders
climbed 0.5%. Although machinery fell from record highs (-0.5%), metals climbed 1.7% to the highest level in nearly a
decade.
Core capital goods orders, which exclude aircraft and military hardware, rose by a greater-than-expected 0.6%
following an upwardly revised 1.3%. That’s a good start to Q4 business spending and suggest factory output should hum
nicely into 2022.
