discuss with others in the class about optional activities for your

• July is high season for tourism, with thousands of visitors. So if there is an
activity that you have your heart set on doing, like a Balinese cooking
class, it would be best to start making plans now.

3. Course Activities
• All activities in AsULearn are due as part of this course
• Including discussions on book chapters
• Extended discussion on Forshee Ch 5-6 to the end of this week
• Discussion on Education in Indonesia book, Ch 1 & 3 (June 29 to July

4. Travel Preferences and Passport
• Scanned passports are due immediately (in AsULearn)
• If you completed travel preferences form and uploaded passport
scan, I made request to the airline for you
• If not, bring your Mileage Plus number when you check-in at
Charlotte Airport
5. Last Chance!
• Fill any prescription and/or travel medication
• Flu vaccines and other immunizations
• Call your bank for your ATM and credit card to be used in Japan and
Indonesia
• Finish shopping for bags, supplies, personal care items, etc. (so you
can relax next week)
6. Start Packing
• Double-check packing list on agenda doc (AsULearn)
• Practice pack everything you will take this week
• Recheck guidelines for luggage size and weight (agenda doc)
• Extra room for souvenirs, gifts, etc. (1/3 of your bag)

• Narita Nikko Hotel swimming pool opens July 1
• Everyone indicated initial preference for Narita Temple tour
• Japanese buses leave on time; miss the bus and miss the tour
• Japanese Yen handed out in Charlotte for lunch/drinks (1,200 Yen)
• Cost examples for Saturday in Narita:
• Katsudon or oyakodon lunch (900 Yen) + 2 drinks (150 Yen each) = 1,200
• Tempura set with soba = 1,200 Yen
• Unagi (eel) lunch set = 1,900 to 2,700 Yen
• Japan is a “cash society”
