to begin the class, discuss topics, and view your project
presentations. The meeting dates are:

starting at 7:30 PM

Procedures:
A. Have one group member lead the discussion for each
chapter, addressing the questions, with other group members
chiming in with their ideas and reactions.

9. RESEARCH ON EDUCATIONAL
TECHNOLOGY
When: June 21 to July 16
What: Discover research about trends in educational technologies
Who: As an individual
Submit: After an online session with a librarian from Appalachian
State's Belk Library, create an annotated bibliography where you
identify and describe at least 3 research articles on technology in
education that interest you.
Where: Submit a link to a Google Doc within AsULearn
Share: Provide editing privileges to me (wallacepr@appstate.edu)
Due: July 16, in AsULearn
10. RESEARCH ON EDUCATIONAL
TECHNOLOGY
To Do:
• View resources in AsULearn (e.g., 2015 Horizon Report K-12
Edition) and search online to find trends and issues in
educational technology.
• Identify at least 3 research articles (not mass media reports) of
interests to you, related to technology in education.
• Summarize each article in an abstract of your own words,
roughly 2 paragraphs in length. Detail the importance and
findings in the research.
• Cite each article in APA format, 6th edition. You can use online
resources, such as Son of Citation Machine or the browser
plugin, Zotero, to help with creating citations.
12. 21ST CENTURY EDUCATION
When: Now through June 18
What: Complete a presentation on 21st century teaching and
learning with your reading group
Who: Your reading group (for The World is Flat)
Submit: Create a 7 to 10 slide presentation, to inform us about
the topic.
Where: Submit overview presentation in AsULearn and
OpenQwaq
Due: June 18, in OpenQwaq and submit in AsULearn
13. 21ST CENTURY EDUCATION
Groups are responsible for the following topics:
Group A - 21st century skills and classrooms
• What skills are needed?
• What facilities and tools are needed?
Group B - 21st century students and teachers
• Who are they, how are they unique?
• What knowledge, skills, and dispositions are needed?
15. HORIZON TECHNOLOGIES
When: June 22 to July 16
Who: In a group (choice of topic groups in AsULearn)
What:
• Read "Computers as Mindtools for Engaging Learners in
Critical Thinking" and the 2015/2016 Horizon Reports
• Choose one Horizon Technology project group
• Develop with your project group a presentation on your chosen
Horizon Technology category, related to education
• Due: Post your Mindtools category project on the wall in
OpenQwaq on or before July 16.
16. MINDTOOLS IN EDUCATION
Use the "Mindtools and Technologies Project Group
(choose)" link in AsULearn to join one of groups
assigned to the following categories:
• Robotics and Artificial Intelligence (AI)
• Virtual and Augmented Reality
18. APPLICATIONS OF
MINDTOOLS
When: Now to July 23
Who: As an individual, or in a group of your choosing
What:
• Develop a project to share with other educators related to
effective use of technology in education.
• Plan a unit incorporating at least one of the Mindtools and/or
horizon technologies discussed this semester.
• Provide lesson plans and implementation plans.
• Develop a website (Google Sites, Wix etc.) with your plans.
Due: Post project URL on the wall in OpenQwaq on or before July
23. Present in our final class on Tuesday, July 26.
20. GETTING STARTED IN CLASS
• Complete the Four Questions Exercise, that we start in class
today, within the AsULearn forum. (due: June 11)
• Create a Google Drive folder and Docs to use for your reading
group discussion activities.
• Each group member: Post your Google Drive folder URL in
AsULearn. (due: June 11)
22. FOUR QUESTIONS EXERCISE
First, imagine a child that you care about who
is starting kindergarten this school year. Then
consider these questions:
1. What will the world be like 20 years from now, when
your child has left school and is out in the world?
2. What skills will your child need to be successful in this
world you have imagined 20 years from now?
3. What conditions made your high-performance (most
memorable) learning experiences so powerful?
