The Three Common Hobbies
Hobbies, good or bad, we all have our own set of them and is another factor that make us unique
from one another. Hobbies come in a variety of categories. They may be hobbies related to physical
fitness, social lifestyle, spiritual, and the likes. (Rajkoomar, 2015) Hobby is not an inborn
inclination. It is developed through a constant and systematic process. A hobby is not pursued to
make a profit. The main purpose of a hobby is to derive pleasure out of it. It gives us mental and
physical relaxation. One makes the best use of one's spare time by pursuing a hobby. Hobbies are
used for one's entertainment or leisure. By doing our hobbies, we get to develop and discover skills,
talents, and potential on a particular activity. We also find ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Just by looking at the way it works, one will most likely say that one is mathematically inclined if
one knows how to solve it. A Rubik's Cube comes in varieties ranging from 2x2x2 cubes until up to
13x13x13 cubes, with 6 different colors on each side of the cube, all following a variety of methods
to solve them once the cubes have been scrambled. According to Estevez (2015), "Depending on
whether you figure it out yourself or get help from tutorials, there are many benefits in learning
something new and in this case, there are many benefits in learning how to solve the Rubik's cube.
For starters, it's no secret that learning something new helps promote a healthy and happy brain.
Each time you learn a new skill you are rewiring the parts of your brain by connecting neurons. The
older we get, the easier it is to allow ourselves to fall into patterns. We know a certain route to get to
a destination and more often than not we follow the same route rather than look for a new way.
There is nothing wrong with that, but if you take measures to always stay on the hunt for learning,
you will create a healthier future for yourself. The Rubik's cube is the perfect example. The Rubik's
Cube also serves as a representation of life. We face problems daily and work through them to get
through the day successfully. Whether you are figuring out a new way to travel or deciding what to
make for dinner,

A Master Of The Rubik 's Cube
If you or I were to choose a random toy, from a random child's toy collection, it is more likely that a
Rubik's Cube would be chosen than any other toy. In other words, the Hungarian originated cube is
the best–selling toy in history ("The History of the Rubik's Cube."), so the actuality that I became
infatuated with the gadget was somewhat likely. In what I believed at this stage in my life to be the
most prestigious honor possible, I set out to become a master of the Rubik's cube. My goal, as well
as the toy itself, would have never had been possible if it were not for a man named Ernő Rubik.
The Rubik's Cube credited inventor was born in 1944, in Budapest, Hungary. Rubik attended the
Budapest University of Technology and Economics, and studied to become an educator, and also
studied architecture. It is noted that Rubik "was always looking for new, more exciting ways to
present information." It was 30 years after his birth that he began experimenting with this goal and
accidentally created the impossible; a solid cube (originally made of wood!) that would not fall apart
if twisted or turned. Rubik added colorful stickers. It took him well over a month to generate a
solution that would solve the puzzle every time, and less than a year later, he patented the cube, and
gave it its original name, the "Magic Cube". Fast forward twenty–four months later, and the toy was
first sold in a Budapest toyshop. ("The History of the Rubik's Cube.") The cube caught the eye of

Rube Goldberg Project Research Paper
The Rube Goldberg Project, assigned by my science teacher to instigate creativity and out of the box
thinking, brought out the ingenuity in all of us. Our task was to create a Rube Goldberg Machine
that was capable of ringing a desk bell. Individually or in groups, we had to build the machine and
present it to the class. This task seemed moderately simple, but in truth, it was much more
complicated than any of us had realized. Specific requirements needed to be met that further
hardened the project. However, by studying Rube Goldberg's life, his cartoons, and his machine, we
were able to tackle the challenge presented, including forging a team that would persevere through
many challenges.
Rube Goldberg is hailed as one of the greatest cartoonists ever for his exemplary work; therefore, he
was launched to become a household name in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Zac became ill as the building phase began, leaving me to do my best without him. At first, it was
difficult, but building became much smoother as time went on. Time was not on our side, but we
cranked it out and got the job done. I crafted the majority of the machine, including the simple
machines in them. The spiral, mousetrap, gear, tubing, car, zip ties, cardboard, wood, pegboard,
dowel rods, and hot glue were all provided by me. Zac provided the marbles, pegboard hooks, wire,
and string. Team unity helped build my team's project into something we both were proud of; hence,
a great deal of time went into the creation of the project. My team worked well together, but as
expected, we had a few bumps in the road along the way. As was stated previously, Zac became sick
at a vital time of work. Work was distributed reasonably evenly amongst our group. We had both
come up with solid ideas that could be further enhanced. The project itself bounced from house to
house. Zac focused more on the design, while I worked to create what he had

Let the Right One in Analysis Essay
BONDING THROUGH EXILE:
An Analysis of Mise–en–Scène in Let the Right One In
The theme of loneliness and isolation has been predominant in cinema since its inception, but Tomas
Alfredson explores the idea in a unique way in his 2008 Swedish romantic horror film, Let the Right
One In. Set in the snowy winter of Stockholm, the film depicts the similarly cold and depressing life
of Oskar, a young target of bullying. This frozen, barren setting contributes to the complete isolation
that the viewer feels with the characters. Through strategic shot composition and specific color and
mood choices, Alfredson shows how both Oskar and Eli are cut off from the world in different ways,
and then how their common bloodlust brings them together. ... Show more content on

The camera slowly pans around the playground, showing the bland walls of the apartment complex
surrounding it to amplify their sense of overwhelming loneliness. Oskar, wanting to find a
companion in Eli, provides her with his rubik's cube to solve. The rubik's cube can also be seen as
Eli providing an answer to Oskar's problems. Both his life and his rubik's cube are puzzles that need
solving, and Eli literally drops in to solve everything for him. This early scene sets the tone for the
rest of the movie and establishes both the characters as lonely outcasts that need to be saved.
As the relationship between Oskar and Eli continues to blossom, Oskar finds out that Eli lives off
blood to survive. After this realization, there is a scene where Eli arrives at Oskar's house. Oskar
attempts to let her in by motioning and gesturing but she refuses to cross the threshold. She finally
enters without his permission, causing her to bleed from every opening on her face, turning her into
a grotesque image of her true vampiric form. This causes Oskar to give her permission to enter. This
scene symbolizes the finality of the relationship between Oskar and Eli. Eli is a violent murderer,
and Oskar has violent ambitions, and this is the moment where Eli attempts to turn those ambitions
into reality. The way the shots of Oskar and Eli are composed suggest a

Gangsta Culture And Cultural Resistance
For the longest time art has been a tool for expressing one's self, passion, anger, pain, grief, or even
resistance. Cultural resistance, as Stephen Duncombe claims, can "provide a sort of 'free space' for
developing ideas and practices" (S. Duncombe 5). There have been multiple theorists trying to
identify what depicts a subcultural group as culturally resistant. Cultural resistance can take different
forms and can be expressed via different media depending on the subcultural group. Some theorists
also identify cultural resistance as a form of political resistance (p. 6). The Gangsta Culture is a
widely known subcultural group that developed in the late 20th century in the "wild, wild west," and

ignored. "When gangsta rappers do write lyrics intended to convey a sense of social realism, their
work loosely resembles a sort of street ethnography of racist institutions and social practices..." (p.

The objective of this experiment is to test the melting point of ice against different variables. I will
use a control of ice against air and test this next to ice in water, sugar on ice, salt on ice and Baking
Soda on ice. By measuring the melting time of each element on an ice cube I will be able to tell
which element affects ice's melting properties at what rate.

* Record your results * Measure the remaining mass of the ice cubes, and record your results. *
Repeat this test three times for each substance used.
Reasoning
The purpose of this experiment is to measure the reaction of the ice melting when exposed to
another solid element. The environment is a kitchen with a stable temperature and testing space.
Repeating the tests three times will provide different data which will then be averaged for each
element. For each test, calculate the percentage of the ice cube melted by [mass of melt water/initial
mass of ice cube] x 100.
Sequence of Events
I started with controlling my experiment environment. It was in a still kitchen, with no appliances
running to minimize humidity and control the room temperature. I then broke my ice cube tray and
finding cubes that weight .10grams. I set up my timer for each station. I put three–.10gram ice cubes
in a identical contained on top of the pre measured ½ teaspoon of sugar, salt and baking soda, then I
hit start on the timer. When the timer hit 15 minutes I picked up each ice cube and put it on another
dry identical dish. I then measured the melted liquid, followed by measuring the melted ice cube
alone. I repeated this three times to get an average.

Rube Goldberg Machine Contest Essay
The Rube Goldberg Machine Contest (RGMC) is named after the late cartoonist Reuben Lucius
Goldberg. Having died in 1970, he lives on in the GMC as puzzling machines with crazy
mechanisms are built in the spirit of his illustrations.
For 55 years the award–winning engineer turned cartoonist drew machines and contraptions that
satirized the new machines and gadgets being built. His drawings, using simple gadgets and
household items already in use, were incredibly complex and wacky but had an ingenious, logical
progression to them. Goldberg's inventions became so widely known that Webster Dictionary added
the term Rube Goldberg to its listings, defining it as accomplishing by extremely complex,
roundabout means what seemingly could be done simply. In the words of the inventor, the
machines were a symbol of man's capacity for exerting maximum effort to achieve minimal
results. He believed that most people preferred doing things the hard way than using a more simple
and direct path to accomplish a goal.

Tennis Balloon Research Paper
Currently, all tennis balls are packaged in cylinders which hold four balls. Although this is an
innovative idea, there is a lot of wasted space in the cylinders and in the square box that it is
packaged in. In this investigation, another idea for a container will be shown with a list of
advantages and disadvantages. The aim is to create a new container for tennis balls that has a
comparable surface area and wasted space to that of the cylinder containers currently used. Another
container that could be used instead of a cylinder is a rectangular prism as shown below. This
investigation will use measurement to calculate the surface area and volume of 3D objects,

This assumption was proven to be incorrect as the wasted space was calculated to be much over

have a considerably smaller amount of wasted space compared to the cylinder, but a small amount
of wasted space would exist. As shown in the previous working out, there was no wasted space in
the square box with the rectangular prisms. A final assumption made in part A was the dimensions of
the cylindrical container. In part B, it was presumed that the points would be scattered loosely
around the line of best fit. After creating the scatter plot, it was understood that the points were
closely scattered around the line of best fit and a realisation that there could be a formula to
calculate the results quicker was brought into consideration. Also, another assumption was that the
amount of wasted space would not be a significant amount. After calculating, it was notable that the
wasted space was more than half of the volume of the

The Importance Of Bilingual Language
Have you ever wondered, why people split the language they speak linking different parts of their
lives? Language is a way a person communicates with other people. However, a multilingual, people
who speak multiple languages, have a different lifestyle from a monolingual, people who speak one
language. These three American authors help expand our understanding change in our languages
within a different part of our life. They grew up with immigrant families and are familiar with the
bilingual environment. A bright author is Amy Tan, who wrote Mother Tongue, she confronted with
different levels of English; the broken English of her mother tongue and her perfect English.
Another is Richard Rodriguez, who wrote a Public and Private language, reveals his childhood on

The Rubik's Cube
How Architecture found Cubes
The Rubik's cube, invented by Erno Rubik, is famously known as the Impossible puzzle.
It was during the summer of my 7th grade that I first stumbled upon the Rubik's cube. The Rubik's
cube is a cube with different colors on all sides. The goal is to be able to return the original look of
the cube, with all the edges and corners corresponding to the center color of each face. People seem
to think the cube is made out of 27 cubes, but it is actually made of a core. The other pieces fit in
with the core to give the look of multiple cubes grouped together.
I remembered the day vividly when I held the glamorous box with the Qi Yi BullFight (Name of the
Rubik's Cube) inside. The cube felt special, it was an experience I had never encountered. Perfect.
Made with care. I momentarily observed the cube, six sides, all with their beautifully covered ...

Architecture is the design of a building, just like the bones that make up the structure of a human
being, and the way it forms as a basis for a design. The Rubik's cube is the pencil I use for drawing.
The pencil is occasionally used, and sometimes, left alone. When I am focused, I can solve my
difficulties, calm and controlled. Nevertheless, I can draw my imagination, however hard it maybe.
However, when I am inattentive, it seems like a brick wall is stopping me from my solution.
Although this pencil may cause me to stress out, it can also encourage me to try harder, and seek out
the hidden solution even with the massive brick wall in the way. My love of architecture connects
with the cube because solving problems in puzzles is just like thinking through and designing
something. In addition, whenever I open my vision to the many designs in the world, it brings me
back to the Rubik's cube and architecture. The many designs act like the algorithms in the cube, you

Background Rubik's cube is a toy puzzle designed by Ernö Rubik during the mid– 1970s. It is a
cube– shaped toy consisting of smaller cube pieces, called cubies with 6 faces possessing
contrasting colors. This rather primitive–looking phenomenon was exceptionally popular during the
1980s, and peaking 1980 and 1983 with around 200 million cubes sold worldwide. Even today sales
continue to exceed 500,000 sales worldwide each year, subsequently earning the title the best–

perceived to reside in its ability to embody and symbolize the evident contrasts in the human
conditions: simplicity and complexity, order and mayhem, bewilderment and comprehension, as
Ernö remarks.(Davis) Comparably, these traits can be observed when examining the most integral
parts of the cube: its history, design and mechanics, and mathematical applications. History Puzzle

in 1995. Since then, sales have steadily increased to over 500,000 units a year. (How Rubik's

similar decoration in France, Britain, and the United States. Also, books covering the cube were
simultaneously on the New York Times best–seller list. Finally, today, with more than 350 million
cubes sold and at least one billion imitations in circulation, it is the best–selling toy of all–time and a

Rubik's Cube Personal Statement
Rubik's cube – a maze of endless possibilities. Perhaps it is the challenge that goaded my intellect or

in me a passion for solving complex problems early on in life. Little did I know, this passion would

I first realized the humane side of my personality during my high school years when a bomb blast

compelled me to become a volunteer during this difficult time and I decided to put my talents to use.
I started calling and personally contacting many friends to start an organized response to this
tragedy, managing to arrange a substantial blood donation for the victims. The contentment I felt
upon helping the people in need pushed me to take the pivotal decision of choosing medicine as a

Cube: Movie Analysis
Cube is a Sci–Fi contemporary horror, which depicts a world where a group of individuals who
mysteriously awake in a complex cube. In order to escape this massive cube, characters must work
together in order to successfully guide themselves through the death defying traps implemented in
designated rooms. The characters in the film are decidedly postmodern in the sense that they have
no recognizable history amongst each other. Yet, there are several elements of fear highlighted
throughout the film, and is specifically noteworthy, because it is one of the few contemporary horror
made directly in Canada to this day, and it allows audience to interpret the ending for themselves.
Firstly Cube contrast fear through the physical aspects of the cube, this includes the cubes
structural features, and the characters theories behind who behind it. Additionally on top of the outer
findings of the cube, inside the characters struggle to discern the cubes purpose. This leads to an
increasing amount of social conflicts, which over time slowly depletes the character's physical well
being. Additionally, the level of paranoia bestilled in the characters suggest this notion of Big
Brother; who may or not be watching them. Furthermore the film implements many thematic
elements that lay ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

College Admissions Essay: Rubik's Cube
I was a normal kid. I had to have been. Don't get me wrong, I was never the star quarterback for the
football team, but I was also not the hermit having imaginary conversations with imaginary friends.
Unfortunately my life had reached its peak in cognitive stability around the first year I started high
school. Fortunately, the correlation of my newfound school was not the causation of the issues
preceding. One lazy, slow day I found a Rubik's cube that my parents had given to me years ago. For
some unbeknownst reason to me I felt a strange urge to work the worn, neglected hunk of plastic
with peeling stickers around until I could solve it. I could not solve it. Conveniently for me, I had

Is it not morally corrupt providing the only reason to stop inflicting damage on people was simple
boredom? I moved on to magic soon after that. Disappointingly, it was not the same outcomes of
wizards or warlocks from sci–fi works. I was well versed though. I could use my computer skills to
increase my knowledge base and extend my ability. As quickly as I moved through the next trade of
skill, I gained access to a potential for something my mind, corrupt it may be, could not refuse.
Using various contacts I had gained through my intrusion days, I had the ability to produce
extremely high quality novelty state identifications. By high quality I mean that I would feel
comfortable handing one to a police officer. As excellent of a marketing strategy it was too much of
a liability, so I rid of the equipment. It was a problem before; unfortunately I was suffering through a
chronic feeling of what could best be described an unbearably uncomfortable mental desire. I
suffered this feeling for a long time but distracting myself by memorizing complex Rubik's cube
algorithms, studying programming languages and various topics such as cryptography. It wasn't

Rubik's Cube
Solving the Rubik's Cube has made me believe that sometimes you have to take a few steps back to
move forward. This fact stated by William Wissemann applies to our everyday life. Regularly, we
search for snappy solutions for our issues. What we don't understand is that alternate routes don't
generally prompt the best results. This requires an investment of time to see how we can tackle an
issue or handle the occasions going ahead around us. We should take time to impart our sentiments
to family and companions and approach everything slowly and carefully. We shouldn't be
excessively agonized over what's to come. Rather, it is best to tackle one issue at an time. Obviously,
arranging is imperative, however we should recollect there is so much arranging one can do.
Therefore, welcome the present and experience each minute to its fullest. ... Show more content on

To start with, I trust that occasionally you need to look further and in surprising spots to discover
answers. For instance, in the event that I needed to figure out how to compose a report I would look
up the definition; simply like the same way you should look further into the Rubik's Cube to finding
a definitive approach to understand the 3D shape. Next, I discovered that it's essential to invest a
considerable measure of plotting considering, to attempt to discover connections and patterns. In
particular, much the same as our school at I.S.109, it is vital to figure out how to discover the
connections, whether it's with classmates, teachers, or even our schedule, simply like a Rubik's

Descriptive Essay About Football
As I lay in the bag all around me is nothing but darkness and perfumed air. Though I know it has
only been a week since I've been put in this bag it feels like months waiting for the big game on
Friday. I sit and wait for my time to shine when the blonde headed girl pulls me out of the bag, that
is my home and those bright lights hit me and make the yellow and black pieces of me sparkle.
When I'm pulled from the bag the fresh air hits me and makes me shiver with excitement. Friday has
come and it is time to shine below the big ginormous lights. These nights spent in the palms of the
blonde headed girl; being shook while she cheers is exactly how I am supposed to spend my life.
When the National Anthem comes on, she presses me to her chest and as the music plays, nothing
but the sound of her heart beat plays in my head. The game starts with Monroe winning the coin toss
and choosing to receive the ball. As the team goes on to the field for kick off I shake in the air with
excitement ready for the game to begin. The stands are on their feet ready for the game to begin. The
football is kicked and all I can do is shake. The home team runs down the field and makes a
touchdown in the first twenty seconds. I am back into the air waiting for the home team to kick off.
The game is so exciting my blonde headed owner and the rest of the girls keep doing cheers and

Personal Identity : Personal Essay : My Identity
The most difficult thing to tell anyone about me is my identity, not that there's much there. It's the
fact that I'm a privileged white male; I have no history. The only thing about me is that I'm different
than everyone else. But isn't everybody? Many people say they're a cat in a dog world, a fish
swimming among sharks. But the reality is that yes, you are different, but everybody else is too. You
are unique; everybody is. Most would say I'm idiosyncratic, a stupidly complicated synonym for
weird. I do the same things as everybody else, but in my own way. For instance, in elementary
school, I read around 100 books, I used to knit, I can juggle, solve a rubik's cube and so much more.
When I was around five to twelve years old, I made things nonstop. Whether it was an origami
Darth Vader to a PVC bow and arrow. I did this whenever I had spare time. Sometimes whole days
(2–7 hours) would be spent just making things. I would either go online and look up how to make
something, or I would wing it and do it with no guidelines. I think I loved doing this so much
because I hate being bored. The sounds of cutting and sanding, the smells of sawdust, the feel of
polished wood, and the image of the finished project looming in your mind are all things I've come
to love. One day I got this game, Portal 2. I played it a bunch, then decided to make the portal gun (a
gun that shot portals) from the game. For a long time I searched for a template, not finding any. It
was a few days later that I found one. It was a paper craft; something created fully out of paper. I
spent a little bit deliberating whether I would actually build it, as it as fifty–two pages. I decided to
print it. Ten minutes later, I took that paper and got to work. The first page looked extremely tedious
to cut. It had a seemingly infinite amounts of points and curves, taunting me, saying I couldn't do it.
So I whipped out my scissors and got to it. Another ten minutes later, the first page had been cut. I
started to fold the pieces, then realized I didn't know how to put them together. I looked online for
anything but found nothing, so I just decided to wing it. For a few months I kept cutting and taping.
There were countless times when I cut a piece wrong

Argumentative Essay On The White Cube
The purpose of this essay is to examine the controversial topic of the white cube and how the artists
try to go over this fixed model. The first part of the essay is focused on the description of the model
of the white cube and how it starts to be the ideally model for the art exhibition. Far away from the
previous conception of the exhibition where the Salon Model was predominant. Nevertheless it
starts to be clear that this model is not perfect: directly connected with the business of the art and the
art institution, become a real obstacle for the artists. The first writer/artist who speaks about the

In an hour there was a transference from the the object (where's the art?) to subject (me). The

how the space of the museums and gallery want to imprison the art between four walls. It is in in the

Arithmetic
(Measures the ability to correctly perform mental computations with expediency; thus measuring the
speed of mental processes. Knowledge of advanced vocabulary or more advanced learned
mathematical concepts, such as formulas, is not required as the objective of the category is merely to
test speed of the participants ability to perform mental computations. All of the answers to the
following questions will be quantitative.) Theoretical Mathematics
(Measures the cognitive ability to perform theoretical computations without numerical values;
measures the ability to recognize mathematical relationships in commonplace situations. All of the
answers to the following questions will be in term of another variable or in relationship to another
factor in the question. None of the answers will ask for a definitive quantitative answer; all answers
will be more theoretical and will test the test takers ability to recognize mathematical patterns and
relationships.) Reading Comprehension and Memory (Short Term)
A few questions will test the participants ability to recall very short passage/sentences verbatim and
write their responses into a computer based program that will calculate their performance. In order

The Process Of Learning The Rubik's Cubes
This week I am starting my final project. I have come to the conclusion that I will learn the Rubik's
cube in the next few weeks. Hopefully, I will be able to learn to complete it at the least and
memorize the solution if possible. I went out and purchased a Rubik's cube for about 15 dollars a
few days ago. Of course I've already scrambled it and threw my sad attempt at accomplishing
something without these foreign directions that come out of the box. I guess I can relate this to the
process of converting to a new religion or being introduced to a new religion. It's very confusing and
overwhelming, being careful not to misinterpret anything at face value. I feel intimidated, but

I've already watched a few YouTube videos of beginner guides other enthusiasts have created. Sadly,
being able to complete the Rubik's cube in the future will not make me a Shaman. Hinduism is the
main focus of this week. This is also the week I committed to learning the orientations of the
Rubik's cube and the terminologies I didn't understand in the directions. I've had somewhat of an
understanding of the direction, but still have a hard time performing the action correctly. For
example, the instruction will say to rotate this side inverted (counter–clockwise) and I will
misinterpret and just rotate it regular (clockwise). This is kind of like forgetting your rights from
your lefts. This is frustrating because if one move is messed up everything you've done goes to
waste and are forced to restart. The orientation labels and instruction are to the Rubik's cube as the
Vedas are to Hinduism. At this point I have the first two algorithms almost down, but struggle quite
a bit with anything beyond that. The algorithms jump from being four notations to eight notations. I
expect my learning progress from here out to be a little slower than how fast and easy it was for me
this week. I just need to set some time to dedicate to learn the Rubik's cube in the coming weeks so I
do not procrastinate if I want to be able to complete the Rubik's cube completely by memory. This

Rube Goldberg Research Paper
Our challenge was to create a Rube Goldberg Machine that could ring a service bell. Additionally,
we needed to document and turn in a team and individual folder. Once we completed the evaluation
of Rube Goldberg's life, cartoons, and machines, my team worked through the challenges of trying
to pull together as a team and create a successful project.
Rube Goldberg was an inventor, engineer, sculptor, author, and cartoonist. Born on July fourth, 1883
in San Francisco, California, Rube grew up in an upper–middle–class family of Jewish heritage, and
he had shown a love for the arts ever since a young age. At the age of four, Goldberg spent a lot of
time creating things and tracing drawings. Sadly, his mother died when he was a teenager and ...

to recognize his work. Rube also became the co–founder of the National Cartoonists Society. It was
an organization that showed the importance of cartoons and cartoonists, which made Goldberg want
to be apart of it. (rube–goldberg.com, n.d.). Ever since 1988, students have participated in the Rube

unique cartoons (Raga, 2016). Rube Goldberg noted that the machines were symbols of, man's
capacity for exiting maximum effort to accomplish minimal results (O'Connor, 2015, A Simple
Task, para. 11). Over time, his cartoon inventions turned into real working machines, and millions of
people became inspired. An excellent example of what Goldberg's designs are and how they can
operate is his famous self–operating napkin cartoon. It was a machine that used a chain reaction to
accomplish a simple task, and this was Rube Goldberg's vision for all the simple machines (National

Personal Narrative: Rubik's Cube
It was an average day for Mr. Sprinkle; warm, sunny, but also with a slight breeze coming in from
the west. Inside his house, coffee started to pout in the kitchen while his wife started to prepare
breakfast for the children. Sprinkle got up from his sleep, still sore from the previous day's workout

shirt, he went to the bathroom to brush his teeth. Along the way, he stumbled upon a couple of the
kid's toys left on the floor from last night. One of which was an unsolved Rubik's Cube. Midway
through brushing his teeth, he heard that the kids are already up and eating their breakfast in the
dining room. Once the kids were done with their food, they, alongside with Mr. Sprinkle and his
wife, rushed around the house preparing to head out in a couple of minutes. After everyone was
ready, they headed to the car that was in the garage. Everyone jumped in and buckled up their seat
belts in near unison which gave Mr. Sprinkle a slight chuckle. He proceeded to drop off each child at

Essay On Rubik's Cube
Background Rubik's cube is a toy puzzle designed by Ernö Rubik during the mid– 1970s. It is a
cube– shaped toy consisting of smaller cube pieces, called cubies with 6 faces possessing
contrasting colors. This rather primitive–looking phenomenon was exceptionally popular during the
1980s, and peaking in 1980 and 1983 with around 200 million cubes sold worldwide. Even sales
today continue to exceed 500,000 sales worldwide each year, consequently earning the title the
best–selling toy of all time.(How Rubik's Cube) Seen as an object of art, the Rubik's Cube
brilliance is perceived to reside in its ability to embody and symbolize the evident contrasts in the
human conditions: simplicity and complexity, order and mayhem, bewilderment and
comprehension, as Ernö remarks.(Davis) Comparably, these traits can be observed when examining
the most integral parts of the cube: its history, design and mechanics, and mathematical applications.

Around 1983, however, the popularity of the cube began to die down and sales slowed drastically.
That was because the cube stayed in small scale production, but that changed when Seven Towns
took over the marketing, and licensed the Rubik Cube to the Oddzon Company for the United States
in 1995. Since then, sales have steadily increased to over 500,000 units a year. (How Rubik's
Cube) Moreover, in 1980, the cube won the prestigious German Game of the Year award and
similar decorations in France, Britain, and the United States. Also, books covering the cube were
simultaneously on the New York Times best–seller list. Finally, today, with more than 350 million
cubes sold and at least one billion imitations in circulation, it is the best–selling toy of all–time and a
true cultural icon that will forever be recognized.

As of my nature to take up on challenges and never back down attitude–I accepted. But the trick part
was that I wasn't allowed any type of assistance. No solutions, no algorithms, nothing. Pure brain
power. So the next day I was on it. One by one, piece by piece, I started to uncover the mysteries of
it. I took it to the school, home, park, everywhere I went. Sometimes I even forgot the count of the
time. It was like a part of me now. I was obsessed with it.
Two weeks. It took me this much time to remember the first algorithm I thought that was going to
take me to the end of my journey. Took me one more week to know that I was wrong and that I had
to start from the bottom. Three weeks just to know that I was wrong. But then I remembered
Thomas Alva Edison's famous ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The total time it took me to solve the cube and remember the steps. Because I had involved myself
so much the first time that I basically knew what was going to happen on the next move. I didn't
only won the challenge but I opened myself to a new world. If I can solve a 3x3, why not some
other type of cube. Then I challenged myself to a 2x2, 4x4 and many different sizes. Another
creative thought came. If I can solve a cube, why not some other shapes. Then I took up on a special
shape–The Shengshou's Master Pyramorphix. It took me quite some time to solve it. Every cell in
the human body is replaced over the course of about seven years. That means, not one part of me
from that day is the same. If I got a chance to accept another similar challenge in the future, I can
guarantee you I am upto

Short Story On DonT Save Her
Don't Save Her She was murdered.... said mom with tears in her eyes. Last year my sister bethany
and her friends had a sleepover and they were down in the basement her friends left at around 2:00
am which made no sense because they were having a SLEEPOVER! Anyways after her friends left
my mom told bethany to come upstairs to sleep in her room but bethany said that she wanted to
sleep downstairs because she did not want to go upstairs. My mom said that it was fine with her. The
next morning after she went missing mom made breakfast and told me to call bethany upstairs to
eat. I did as i was told but little did i know was that she was gone! Bethany! I called. No response
,BETHANY! Still no answer. I went down the stairs to see what was up but she was not there.
MOM! i yelled YES? she answered shes not here i said. My mom came downstairs to see for
herself ,but yes bethany was gone!! My mom and I searched all around the house, but we could not
find her. After we looked my mom called 911 and fifteen minutes later they arrived. They had dogs
with them to see if they can smell her and see if they could find her quicker. After an hour of
searching they found nothing! A month later after the police came into our house and were searching
they were finally investigating and doing researching on what had happened to Bethany. They came
to a conclusion saying she was murdered. My mom was really upset that day. A year past and on the
month when bethany disappeared there

Does Salt make Ice melt Faster?
Project Plan
Salt is known to be used on icy roads in certain areas of the country in the winter season to help
clear roadways to make them safer for travel. Salt causes a reaction that lowers the freezing point of
water. In this experiment we will test this method of applying salt to ice to see if for certain this is
true, and how much faster the salt melts if so. In this experiment, the Independent Variable will be
adding Salt to the ice and the Dependent variable will be the time it takes the ice to melt.
The Plan is to use two ice cubes in separate containers, and add ice to only one of these. Each will
be timed and observed for the duration it takes both to melt, and data will be ... Show more content

* Place one ice cube into each container. * One Ice cube will have nothing added to it. * To other Ice
Cube add ½ tsp of salt (sprinkled over top). * Start your timer(s). * Record how long it takes for
each Ice Cube to melt completely, taking progress notes as you go. For instance, the percentage of
the ice cube that has melted at 5 minutes, 20 minutes, etc.
Reasoning
I chose this method to keep the two Ice cubes separated during the experiment, and to see the two
individual results of adding salt, or adding nothing to the ice. Keeping the Ice cubes separate allows
no error in collecting data on each individual subject. Adding salt to one will not interfere with data
collected on the ice cube melting with no additives. Some studies were very similar, but most used
many different substances to test how quickly Ice would melt. These included for instance Sugar,
and Sand.
Sequence of Events:
The experiment will start with two ice cubes. One will have nothing added to it, the other will have
½ tsp of salt sprinkled over it. Each will be separate on two different plates/containers. Time will be
kept with a stopwatch, and notes will be taken throughout the experiment on the percentage of ice
that has melted at certain points in time.
Tools
A timer will be used to record the amount of time it takes each ice cube to melt. As well as a
medicine cup to measure the ½ tsp of salt that will be added. The Stopwatch used

The Three Common Hobbies

  • 1. The Three Common Hobbies Hobbies, good or bad, we all have our own set of them and is another factor that make us unique from one another. Hobbies come in a variety of categories. They may be hobbies related to physical fitness, social lifestyle, spiritual, and the likes. (Rajkoomar, 2015) Hobby is not an inborn inclination. It is developed through a constant and systematic process. A hobby is not pursued to make a profit. The main purpose of a hobby is to derive pleasure out of it. It gives us mental and physical relaxation. One makes the best use of one's spare time by pursuing a hobby. Hobbies are used for one's entertainment or leisure. By doing our hobbies, we get to develop and discover skills, talents, and potential on a particular activity. We also find ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Just by looking at the way it works, one will most likely say that one is mathematically inclined if one knows how to solve it. A Rubik's Cube comes in varieties ranging from 2x2x2 cubes until up to 13x13x13 cubes, with 6 different colors on each side of the cube, all following a variety of methods to solve them once the cubes have been scrambled. According to Estevez (2015), "Depending on whether you figure it out yourself or get help from tutorials, there are many benefits in learning something new and in this case, there are many benefits in learning how to solve the Rubik's cube. For starters, it's no secret that learning something new helps promote a healthy and happy brain. Each time you learn a new skill you are rewiring the parts of your brain by connecting neurons. The older we get, the easier it is to allow ourselves to fall into patterns. We know a certain route to get to a destination and more often than not we follow the same route rather than look for a new way. There is nothing wrong with that, but if you take measures to always stay on the hunt for learning, you will create a healthier future for yourself. The Rubik's cube is the perfect example. The Rubik's Cube also serves as a representation of life. We face problems daily and work through them to get through the day successfully. • 3. A Master Of The Rubik 's Cube If you or I were to choose a random toy, from a random child's toy collection, it is more likely that a Rubik's Cube would be chosen than any other toy. In other words, the Hungarian originated cube is the best–selling toy in history ("The History of the Rubik's Cube."), so the actuality that I became infatuated with the gadget was somewhat likely. In what I believed at this stage in my life to be the most prestigious honor possible, I set out to become a master of the Rubik's cube. My goal, as well as the toy itself, would have never had been possible if it were not for a man named Ernő Rubik. The Rubik's Cube credited inventor was born in 1944, in Budapest, Hungary. Rubik attended the Budapest University of Technology and Economics, and studied to become an educator, and also studied architecture. It is noted that Rubik "was always looking for new, more exciting ways to present information." It was 30 years after his birth that he began experimenting with this goal and accidentally created the impossible; a solid cube (originally made of wood!) that would not fall apart if twisted or turned. Rubik added colorful stickers. It took him well over a month to generate a solution that would solve the puzzle every time, and less than a year later, he patented the cube, and gave it its original name, the "Magic Cube". Fast forward twenty–four months later, and the toy was first sold in a Budapest toyshop. ("The History of the Rubik's Cube.") The cube caught the eye of Tom Kremer. ... • 5. Rube Goldberg Project Research Paper The Rube Goldberg Project, assigned by my science teacher to instigate creativity and out of the box thinking, brought out the ingenuity in all of us. Our task was to create a Rube Goldberg Machine that was capable of ringing a desk bell. Individually or in groups, we had to build the machine and present it to the class. This task seemed moderately simple, but in truth, it was much more complicated than any of us had realized. Specific requirements needed to be met that further hardened the project. However, by studying Rube Goldberg's life, his cartoons, and his machine, we were able to tackle the challenge presented, including forging a team that would persevere through many challenges. Rube Goldberg is hailed as one of the greatest cartoonists ever for his exemplary work; therefore, he was launched to become a household name in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Zac became ill as the building phase began, leaving me to do my best without him. At first, it was difficult, but building became much smoother as time went on. The spiral, mousetrap, gear, tubing, car, zip ties, cardboard, wood, pegboard, dowel rods, and hot glue were all provided by me. Zac provided the marbles, pegboard hooks, wire, and string. Team unity helped build my team's project into something we both were proud of; hence, a great deal of time went into the creation of the project. My team worked well together, but as expected, we had a few bumps in the road along the way. As was stated previously, Zac became sick at a vital time of work. Work was distributed reasonably evenly amongst our group. We had both come up with solid ideas that could be further enhanced. The project itself bounced from house to house. • 11. Let the Right One in Analysis Essay BONDING THROUGH EXILE: An Analysis of Mise–en–Scène in Let the Right One In The theme of loneliness and isolation has been predominant in cinema since its inception, but Tomas Alfredson explores the idea in a unique way in his 2008 Swedish romantic horror film, Let the Right One In. Set in the snowy winter of Stockholm, the film depicts the similarly cold and depressing life of Oskar, a young target of bullying. This frozen, barren setting contributes to the complete isolation that the viewer feels with the characters. Through strategic shot composition and specific color and mood choices, Alfredson shows how both Oskar and Eli are cut off from the world in different ways, and then how their common bloodlust brings them together. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The camera slowly pans around the playground, showing the bland walls of the apartment complex surrounding it to amplify their sense of overwhelming loneliness. Oskar, wanting to find a companion in Eli, provides her with his rubik's cube to solve. The rubik's cube can also be seen as Eli providing an answer to Oskar's problems. Both his life and his rubik's cube are puzzles that need solving, and Eli literally drops in to solve everything for him. This early scene sets the tone for the rest of the movie and establishes both the characters as lonely outcasts that need to be saved. As the relationship between Oskar and Eli continues to blossom, Oskar finds out that Eli lives off blood to survive. After this realization, there is a scene where Eli arrives at Oskar's house. Oskar attempts to let her in by motioning and gesturing but she refuses to cross the threshold. She finally enters without his permission, causing her to bleed from every opening on her face, turning her into a grotesque image of her true vampiric form. This causes Oskar to give her permission to enter. This scene symbolizes the finality of the relationship between Oskar and Eli. Eli is a violent murderer, and Oskar has violent ambitions, and this is the moment where Eli attempts to turn those ambitions into reality. Cultural resistance, as Stephen Duncombe claims, can "provide a sort of 'free space' for developing ideas and practices" (S. Duncombe 5). There have been multiple theorists trying to identify what depicts a subcultural group as culturally resistant. Cultural resistance can take different forms and can be expressed via different media depending on the subcultural group. Some theorists also identify cultural resistance as a form of political resistance (p. 6). Mathematics Exploration: Rubik's Cube Mathematics Exploration Research Question: Use Group Theory's Representation in Solving the 3 × 3 × 3 Rubik's Cube Author: Thomas Lou Supervisor: Mr Adeoba September 3, 20141.0 Introduction Rubik's cube (magic cube) is a 3 dimensional puz– zle invented by Hungarian architecture professor ErnÅŚ Rubik in 1974. The invention of Rubik's cube brought the puzzling world by storm and quickly became popular among young people and mathematicians. People all around the world are fascinated by its intelligent design and its mysteries underlining mathematics. pieces are classified into 3 different groups based on what kinds of cubies they are positioned on. I will use a control of ice against air and test this next to ice in water, sugar on ice, salt on ice and Baking Soda on ice. By measuring the melting time of each element on an ice cube I will be able to tell which element affects ice's melting properties at what rate. Reasoning The purpose of this experiment is to measure the reaction of the ice melting when exposed to another solid element. The environment is a kitchen with a stable temperature and testing space. Repeating the tests three times will provide different data which will then be averaged for each element. For each test, calculate the percentage of the ice cube melted by [mass of melt water/initial mass of ice cube] x 100. Sequence of Events I started with controlling my experiment environment. It was in a still kitchen, with no appliances running to minimize humidity and control the room temperature. I then broke my ice cube tray and finding cubes that weight .10grams. I set up my timer for each station. I put three–.10gram ice cubes in a identical contained on top of the pre measured ½ teaspoon of sugar, salt and baking soda, then I hit start on the timer. Having died in 1970, he lives on in the GMC as puzzling machines with crazy mechanisms are built in the spirit of his illustrations. For 55 years the award–winning engineer turned cartoonist drew machines and contraptions that satirized the new machines and gadgets being built. His drawings, using simple gadgets and household items already in use, were incredibly complex and wacky but had an ingenious, logical progression to them. Goldberg's inventions became so widely known that Webster Dictionary added the term Rube Goldberg to its listings, defining it as accomplishing by extremely complex, roundabout means what seemingly could be done simply. In the words of the inventor, the machines were a symbol of man's capacity for exerting maximum effort to achieve minimal results. He believed that most people preferred doing things the hard way than using a more simple and direct path to accomplish a goal. In 1949, at the peak of the Goldberg era, the two engineering fraternities at Purdue University, Phi Chapter of Theta Tau Fraternity and Triangle Fraternity, developed their version of the ... Although this is an innovative idea, there is a lot of wasted space in the cylinders and in the square box that it is packaged in. In this investigation, another idea for a container will be shown with a list of advantages and disadvantages. The aim is to create a new container for tennis balls that has a comparable surface area and wasted space to that of the cylinder containers currently used. As shown in the previous working out, there was no wasted space in the square box with the rectangular prisms. A final assumption made in part A was the dimensions of the cylindrical container. In part B, it was presumed that the points would be scattered loosely around the line of best fit. After creating the scatter plot, it was understood that the points were closely scattered around the line of best fit and a realisation that there could be a formula to calculate the results quicker was brought into consideration. Also, another assumption was that the amount of wasted space would not be a significant amount. After calculating, it was notable that the wasted space was more than half of the volume of the ... • 27. The Rubik's Cube How Architecture found Cubes The Rubik's cube, invented by Erno Rubik, is famously known as the Impossible puzzle. It was during the summer of my 7th grade that I first stumbled upon the Rubik's cube. The Rubik's cube is a cube with different colors on all sides. The goal is to be able to return the original look of the cube, with all the edges and corners corresponding to the center color of each face. People seem to think the cube is made out of 27 cubes, but it is actually made of a core. The other pieces fit in with the core to give the look of multiple cubes grouped together. I remembered the day vividly when I held the glamorous box with the Qi Yi BullFight (Name of the Rubik's Cube) inside. The cube felt special, it was an experience I had never encountered. Perfect. Architecture is the design of a building, just like the bones that make up the structure of a human being, and the way it forms as a basis for a design. Nevertheless, I can draw my imagination, however hard it maybe. However, when I am inattentive, it seems like a brick wall is stopping me from my solution. Although this pencil may cause me to stress out, it can also encourage me to try harder, and seek out the hidden solution even with the massive brick wall in the way. My love of architecture connects with the cube because solving problems in puzzles is just like thinking through and designing something. In addition, whenever I open my vision to the many designs in the world, it brings me back to the Rubik's cube and architecture. It is a cube– shaped toy consisting of smaller cube pieces, called cubies with 6 faces possessing contrasting colors. This rather primitive–looking phenomenon was exceptionally popular during the 1980s, and peaking 1980 and 1983 with around 200 million cubes sold worldwide. Even today sales continue to exceed 500,000 sales worldwide each year, subsequently earning the title the best– selling toy of all time.(How Rubik's Cube) Seen as an object of art, the Rubik's Cube brilliance is perceived to reside in its ability to embody and symbolize the evident contrasts in the human conditions: simplicity and complexity, order and mayhem, bewilderment and comprehension, as Ernö remarks.(Davis) Comparably, these traits can be observed when examining the most integral parts of the cube: its history, design and mechanics, and mathematical applications. • 49. Descriptive Essay About Football As I lay in the bag all around me is nothing but darkness and perfumed air. Though I know it has only been a week since I've been put in this bag it feels like months waiting for the big game on Friday. I sit and wait for my time to shine when the blonde headed girl pulls me out of the bag, that is my home and those bright lights hit me and make the yellow and black pieces of me sparkle. When I'm pulled from the bag the fresh air hits me and makes me shiver with excitement. Friday has come and it is time to shine below the big ginormous lights. These nights spent in the palms of the blonde headed girl; being shook while she cheers is exactly how I am supposed to spend my life. When the National Anthem comes on, she presses me to her chest and as the music plays, nothing but the sound of her heart beat plays in my head. The game starts with Monroe winning the coin toss and choosing to receive the ball. As the team goes on to the field for kick off I shake in the air with excitement ready for the game to begin. The stands are on their feet ready for the game to begin. The football is kicked and all I can do is shake. The home team runs down the field and makes a touchdown in the first twenty seconds. I am back into the air waiting for the home team to kick off. The game is so exciting my blonde headed owner and the rest of the girls keep doing cheers and shaking us all around tell before I know it, it is half time and time for me to take a rest before the second half. • 51. Personal Identity : Personal Essay : My Identity The most difficult thing to tell anyone about me is my identity, not that there's much there. It's the fact that I'm a privileged white male; I have no history. The only thing about me is that I'm different than everyone else. But isn't everybody? Many people say they're a cat in a dog world, a fish swimming among sharks. But the reality is that yes, you are different, but everybody else is too. You are unique; everybody is. Most would say I'm idiosyncratic, a stupidly complicated synonym for weird. I do the same things as everybody else, but in my own way. For instance, in elementary school, I read around 100 books, I used to knit, I can juggle, solve a rubik's cube and so much more. When I was around five to twelve years old, I made things nonstop. Whether it was an origami Darth Vader to a PVC bow and arrow. I did this whenever I had spare time. Sometimes whole days (2–7 hours) would be spent just making things. I would either go online and look up how to make something, or I would wing it and do it with no guidelines. I think I loved doing this so much because I hate being bored. The sounds of cutting and sanding, the smells of sawdust, the feel of polished wood, and the image of the finished project looming in your mind are all things I've come to love. One day I got this game, Portal 2. I played it a bunch, then decided to make the portal gun (a gun that shot portals) from the game. For a long time I searched for a template, not finding any. It was a few days later that I found one. It was a paper craft; something created fully out of paper. I spent a little bit deliberating whether I would actually build it, as it as fifty–two pages. I decided to print it. Ten minutes later, I took that paper and got to work. The first page looked extremely tedious to cut. It had a seemingly infinite amounts of points and curves, taunting me, saying I couldn't do it. So I whipped out my scissors and got to it. Another ten minutes later, the first page had been cut. I started to fold the pieces, then realized I didn't know how to put them together. I looked online for anything but found nothing, so I just decided to wing it. For a few months I kept cutting and taping. There were countless times when I cut a piece wrong ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 53. Argumentative Essay On The White Cube The purpose of this essay is to examine the controversial topic of the white cube and how the artists try to go over this fixed model. The first part of the essay is focused on the description of the model of the white cube and how it starts to be the ideally model for the art exhibition. Far away from the previous conception of the exhibition where the Salon Model was predominant. Nevertheless it starts to be clear that this model is not perfect: directly connected with the business of the art and the art institution, become a real obstacle for the artists. It is in in the middle of the 20th century that the walls start to be the enemy of the artists because their art should be free from constrictions; they felt oppressed from that the writer Brian O' Doherty defined like the immaculate modernist prison. I was looking at the clown birds as I walked by (I call all birds clown birds because I know that Jeff hates clowns). The concrete was as uneven as a stormy sea. The clown birds were getting much too boring, so I started fiddling with my Rubik's Cube, which was impossible considering someone ripped out about half of the stickers out. Suddenly, Jeff asked Barbra, what's a very successful business?. I thought a while and answered Clown businesses of corse. The fellas from the circus need good equipment. Hopefully, I will be able to learn to complete it at the least and memorize the solution if possible. I went out and purchased a Rubik's cube for about 15 dollars a few days ago. Of course I've already scrambled it and threw my sad attempt at accomplishing something without these foreign directions that come out of the box. I guess I can relate this to the process of converting to a new religion or being introduced to a new religion. Sadly, being able to complete the Rubik's cube in the future will not make me a Shaman. Hinduism is the main focus of this week. This is also the week I committed to learning the orientations of the Rubik's cube and the terminologies I didn't understand in the directions. I've had somewhat of an understanding of the direction, but still have a hard time performing the action correctly. For example, the instruction will say to rotate this side inverted (counter–clockwise) and I will misinterpret and just rotate it regular (clockwise). This is kind of like forgetting your rights from your lefts. This is frustrating because if one move is messed up everything you've done goes to waste and are forced to restart. The orientation labels and instruction are to the Rubik's cube as the Vedas are to Hinduism. At this point I have the first two algorithms almost down, but struggle quite a bit with anything beyond that. The algorithms jump from being four notations to eight notations. Once we completed the evaluation of Rube Goldberg's life, cartoons, and machines, my team worked through the challenges of trying to pull together as a team and create a successful project. Rube Goldberg was an inventor, engineer, sculptor, author, and cartoonist. Born on July fourth, 1883 in San Francisco, California, Rube grew up in an upper–middle–class family of Jewish heritage, and he had shown a love for the arts ever since a young age. His success as a cartoonist started when he became the San Francisco Bulletin's sports cartoonist. This point in time was when publishers began to recognize his work. Rube also became the co–founder of the National Cartoonists Society. It was an organization that showed the importance of cartoons and cartoonists, which made Goldberg want to be apart of it. Ever since 1988, students have participated in the Rube Goldberg MachineRube Goldberg machine contest that brings out the spirit of Goldberg and his unique cartoons (Raga, 2016). Rube Goldberg noted that the machines were symbols of, man's capacity for exiting maximum effort to accomplish minimal results (O'Connor, 2015, A Simple Task, para. 11). Over time, his cartoon inventions turned into real working machines, and millions of people became inspired. An excellent example of what Goldberg's designs are and how they can operate is his famous self–operating napkin cartoon. Inside his house, coffee started to pout in the kitchen while his wife started to prepare breakfast for the children. Sprinkle got up from his sleep, still sore from the previous day's workout at the gym, and proceeded to head to the closet to get dressed. After putting on his collared dress shirt, he went to the bathroom to brush his teeth. Along the way, he stumbled upon a couple of the kid's toys left on the floor from last night. Once the kids were done with their food, they, alongside with Mr. Sprinkle and his wife, rushed around the house preparing to head out in a couple of minutes. After everyone was ready, they headed to the car that was in the garage. Everyone jumped in and buckled up their seat belts in near unison which gave Mr. Sprinkle a slight chuckle. It is a cube– shaped toy consisting of smaller cube pieces, called cubies with 6 faces possessing contrasting colors. This rather primitive–looking phenomenon was exceptionally popular during the 1980s, and peaking in 1980 and 1983 with around 200 million cubes sold worldwide. Even sales today continue to exceed 500,000 sales worldwide each year, consequently earning the title the best–selling toy of all time.(How Rubik's Cube) Seen as an object of art, the Rubik's Cube brilliance is perceived to reside in its ability to embody and symbolize the evident contrasts in the human conditions: simplicity and complexity, order and mayhem, bewilderment and comprehension, as Ernö remarks.(Davis) Comparably, these traits can be observed when examining the most integral parts of the cube: its history, design and mechanics, and mathematical applications. I was always fascinated how a cube can force you to use your brain power to the absolute. So one day i decided to go on a journey. An adventure. An adventure to the deepest parts of my brain. It actually startes as a challenge. In my junior year, one of my friend challenged me to solve a 3x3 rubik's cube. As of my nature to take up on challenges and never back down attitude–I accepted. But the trick part was that I wasn't allowed any type of assistance. No solutions, no algorithms, nothing. Pure brain power. So the next day I was on it. One by one, piece by piece, I started to uncover the mysteries of it. I took it to the school, home, park, everywhere I went. Sometimes I even forgot the count of the time. It was like a part of me now. I was obsessed with it. Two weeks. It took me this much time to remember the first algorithm I thought that was going to take me to the end of my journey. Took me one more week to know that I was wrong and that I had to start from the bottom. Three weeks just to know that I was wrong. But then I remembered Thomas Alva Edison's famous ... • 77. Int1 Task 3 Essay INT Task 3 Does Salt make Ice melt Faster? Project Plan Salt is known to be used on icy roads in certain areas of the country in the winter season to help clear roadways to make them safer for travel. Salt causes a reaction that lowers the freezing point of water. In this experiment we will test this method of applying salt to ice to see if for certain this is true, and how much faster the salt melts if so. In this experiment, the Independent Variable will be adding Salt to the ice and the Dependent variable will be the time it takes the ice to melt. The Plan is to use two ice cubes in separate containers, and add ice to only one of these. Each will be timed and observed for the duration it takes both to melt, and data will be ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... * Place one ice cube into each container. * One Ice cube will have nothing added to it. * To other Ice Cube add ½ tsp of salt (sprinkled over top). * Start your timer(s). * Record how long it takes for each Ice Cube to melt completely, taking progress notes as you go. For instance, the percentage of the ice cube that has melted at 5 minutes, 20 minutes, etc. Reasoning I chose this method to keep the two Ice cubes separated during the experiment, and to see the two individual results of adding salt, or adding nothing to the ice. Keeping the Ice cubes separate allows no error in collecting data on each individual subject. Adding salt to one will not interfere with data collected on the ice cube melting with no additives. Some studies were very similar, but most used many different substances to test how quickly Ice would melt. These included for instance Sugar, and Sand. Sequence of Events: The experiment will start with two ice cubes. One will have nothing added to it, the other will have ½ tsp of salt sprinkled over it.
