The world becomes a better place when there is humanity. Humanity exists when there are people
who have the desire to give, instead of take. When these generous people "give" without the
expectation of "taking" back, the world automatically offers them the better. There was poverty in
all the villages of Armenia. Armenian Christians were continuously under attacks. The attacks
against Christian Armenians occurred throughout the year 1915. This is the age that is well known
for the Armenian Genocide, which was carried out by the Ottoman Turks. Escaping the Ottoman
forces, my grandmother, Sosek Boghosian, found herself as a refuge in Iraq. Horrific acts continued
to be committed to my grandmother's descendants.
Many people had no place to live or sleep. I have interviewed my grandmother to make myself more
educated about the Armenian Genocide. She contributed to the Armenian culture in many different
ways. Mrs. Boghosian studied about the genocide from her beloved mother. Following her mother's
footsteps, she became more generous day by day. She contributed to the Armenian Culture by
teaching her children and grandchildren how to help one another. This was followed by donating
food, clothes and shelter for the kids in orphanages. These unfortunate children lost their guardians
in the genocide, along with 1.5 million other deaths.

The Armenian genocide sometimes called the first genocide of the twentieth century, refers to the
physical annihilation of Armenian Christian people living in the Ottoman Empire from spring 1915
through autumn 1916. There were approximately 1.5 million Armenians living in the multiethnic
Ottoman Empire in 1915. At least 664,000 and possibly as many as 1.2 million died during the
genocide, either in massacres and individual killings, or from systematic ill treatment, exposure, and

The Armenian genocide is unfortunately regularly overlooked because of the Holocaust. This is due
to the amount killed and the extreme amount of structure in the mass killing somehow gives it a lot
more notoriety in western textbooks. There is also the fact that maybe it is underlooked because it's
a less western/ eurocentric impact on history and the countries that were involved. Eugene Rogan in
his book The Fall of the Ottomans writes an in depth chapter about the armenian genocide and its
origins. It paints the picture that first the Ottomans were not ready for a world war of that scale. This
is due to the fact that the empire is way to spread out and its people way to differentiated in
ethnicity, religion, and allegiances. These differences led to animosity between the Majority muslim
and the minority catholic groups, accusing them to be not loyal to the empire which gave them the
public support and the reason to kill and push the minority Armenians out of Turkey. I will be

However, in 1913, an ultra–nationalist group within the movement seized control of the group. This
faction was comprised of men who believed in creating a pure Turkish country that excluded non–

Background: In order to fully understand the Armenian experience in Turkey as natives and then as
minorities, it is crucial to discuss the historical background before the genocide, within the

Till this day, Turkey refuses to call this occurrence a genocide, speaking of the Armenian genocide is
an offense punishable by imprisonment. In 2010, Prime Minister, Recep Tayyip Erdogan threatened
to deport 170,000 Armenians when a bill was proposed to recognize the Armenian genocide in
Turkey.
Alongside the 20th century, another devastating genocide that occurred was the Holodomor in
Soviet Ukraine from 1932 to 1933. Holodomor translates to "death by hunger." Stalin instituted
collectivization and raised Ukraine's grain production quotas to an impossible 44%. He
authoritatively mandated that no grain was to be given to the Ukrainians until the regimes quota was
met, hence, this led to the starvation of the entire population in Ukraine .
By June 1933, 28,000 men, women and children were starving to death each and every day. As the
Ukrainians were dying, the Soviet Union was exporting their grain to other countries. This famine
was initiated to dehumanize the Ukrainians and counterattack any movement for independence.
Anyone caught stealing grain was killed immediately, this lead to people eating dogs, birds, mice

The Armenian Genocide is commonly recognized as the persecution and death of Armenian citizens
of the Ottoman Empire from 1915 to 1918, during the First World War. The Ottoman Empire,
headed by the Committee of Union and Progress, was responsible for the deaths of the Armenian
population and their migration to other countries. Many countries have been guilty of atrocities
throughout the history. Most were chastised by the world within a short period of time. This is also
