MOUNTAINS IN SWEDEN
The Swedish land is mostly mountainous , the main mountain
range is the Scandinavian Mountains , which separate it
from Norway . The Kebnekayse Sydtoppen is the highest
mountain with 2000 m height.
The mountain is frequently
climbed. It is said to be
visible from the top 9% of
Swedish surface , more
than 40,000 square
kilometers
HYDROGRAPHY
• About 9% of the Swedish territory is covered by rivers and lakes . These
are used for inland navigation and fishing or for the practice of sports such
as sailing . In addition , the water resources constitute a great resource
hydropower , especially in the north-central part of the country . The main
rivers are Torneälven , kralälven and dalaläven , coming down from the
Scandinavian Alps and very short . The main lakes are instead the Vanern
(the largest ) and the Vattern Malalaren . We must also mention the Gota
Canal.
Torneälven River
GOTA CANAL
• The Gota Canal is an artificial canal Swedish of 190 km
connecting the lakes to the Baltic Sea . A system of 58 locks
makes it possible to sail. Along the canal you can visit two
museums and you can land in 21 marine , also it has a bike
path on both sides. It is one of the most recommended to visit
in Sweden , with guided tours and boat trips .
CLIMATE
AMBIENTE
The climate in Sweden is different in the North and in the South
. In the south the climate is continental cold , in the North there
is a climate at times polar and subpolar
View of the Stora National Park
Swedish culture has a deep respect for
the environment , in fact 11% of the
territory is under environmental
protection . Sweden includes 29 national
parks , state-owned , and with the
exception of the Sarek National Park ,
consisting of wild lands , all the parks
are easily accessible and are equipped
with a Naturum , a
visitor center with exhibits and activities . the perfect preservation of the environment
is due both to the low population density , and maximum respect for nature , strongly
encouraged and strictly protected by law. In fact with the allemansratter , everyone
has the right to stand in public and private property , as long as they do not cause
damage .
DEMOGRAPHY
Sweden is a country little populated and sparsely populated ( 22
inhabitants / km2 ) . The rate of increase is still above the European
average thanks to immigration , attracted by the standard of living .
In fact , life expectancy exceeds 80 years and the infant mortality
rate is less than 2 per thousand . 20% of the population reporting a
foreign parent , making it heterogeneous . A quarter of immigrants
is of Finnish origin , but lately are increasing flows from the Balkans
and the Middle East . An exception is made for the Sami , who are
definitely not consider them as immigrants , because they are
probably the most ancient inhabitants of Scandinavia . Their
relations with the rest of the country are always difficult and
marked by exclusion . The Sami are catching pride in their culture ,
claiming sovereignty over areas of northern Scandinavia and in
Sweden since 1993 have a consultative parliament
SWEDISH ECONOMY
The Swedish economy , aided by neutrality during the 20th century , is among
the top 20 worldwide . The standards of living are very high , and the
economy is geared towards foreign trade , but damaged by the major
public spending . The primary sector employs only 2% of the jobs , and the
main agricultural products are cereals , potatoes and fodder . The
secondary sector is greatly helped by the presence of deposits of iron,
copper, lead , zinc and uranium and the abundance of timber . They are
highly developed sectors of chemical , mechanical and metallurgy , with a
percentage of GDP allocated to research and development among the
highest in the world who is the natural engine . The service sector
accounts for 70 % of the active population , and is very effective in
delivering services and welfare for all citizens . An example is one of the
best public transport systems in the world
The Crash of North-European Banks in 90’s
When speaking of the Great Recession, we tend to use as similar as the Great
Depression, however, a comparison most current and near in time is the
financial bubble of the countries of northern Europe in the 90s. Sweden was
a country with a strong regulation markets, but in the wake of other
industrialized nations followed a process of deregulation, which allowed
banks to lend more money at reasonable interest rates, reducing the
selection criteria for mortgages, inflating the fuel consumption and the
housing market and increasing demand for credit . Obviously, the housing
market, proposing an increase of 17% annually, attracted smaller investors,
who were indebted further and it swelled the value, and with the first
insolvencies, created a boom-bust process to speculate on what we have
witnessed seven years does. In 2008, however, more than exposure to toxic
assets, Sweden had the worst loss in loans to insolvent Balkan countries
HISTORY
•
It is thought that Sweden was originally settled during the Stone
Age , mainly by hunters and raccoglitori.Tacito , Roman author ,
spoke of the powerful people of the Swedes , which would give rise
to the future state of the nucleus Svezia.Durante tenth centuries
the Viking culture flourished in Sweden with economic expansions
and military targeted predominantly at East. In 1397 , under the
Kalmar Union , conjoined Norway , Sweden and Denmark . This
union was purely personal , not political , and then broke up in
1523. Sweden , thanks to the participation in the Thirty Years' War ,
gained much prestige during the seventeenth century . That role fell
after the rise of the Russian .The Sweden proved neutral to the two
world wars , in fact the last battle itself dates back to 1814 with
Norway . This neutrality contributing cause economic well-being
and serenity typical of the state .
NOBEL PRIZE
The Nobel Prize is an award of global significance , given annually to people who have
distinguished themselves in various fields of knowledge , " bringing considerable benefits
to humanity " , for their research , discoveries and inventions ( chemistry, physics ,
medicine ) , for the literary work , for their commitment in favor of world peace
The award was established following the last will of
Alfred Nobel , the Swedish chemist and industrialist . In
fact, he decided that all of its assets , invested in safe
investments , would generate interest that would fund
prizes for those who " during the past year have
contributed more to the welfare of humanity." The
prizes are still actually financed by the capital . In
addition , the Bank of Sweden in 1969 , awards a prize
for economics in memory of Alfred Nobel , but is not
included in the Nobel Prizes official .
ENERGETIC POLICY
• After the oil crisis in 1973 , energy policy is directed so as to be less
dependent on imported oil . So in the country uses mainly renewable
energy resources , however, the contribution of nuclear power is still
important . In 2006 it was proposed to make the country independent of
the oil within 15 years ( by 2020 ) . After three years , at the end of 2008 ,
this policy has made Sweden the country of the union with the largest
share of clean energy .
