Structurally insulated roof panels are easy to install, but some people made mistakes while choosing the right one. Make note of that common pitfalls by viewing given presentation.
Common Mistakes When Choosing Structurally Insulated Roof Panels
1.
2. Structurally insulated roof panels (SIRPs) can streamline any roofing project.
They’re easy to handle and install, which can improve the efficiency of a
project while significantly reducing building time. Not to mention, they’re
energy efficient and require less manpower to install. SIRPs are composed of
two layers of metal or wood sandwiching Polyurathane insulation, which
makes them highly insulating, thus beneficial to homeowners.
3. Without proper guidance, however, homeowners and builders sometimes fail
to choose the right panels for their project. Make note of the common
pitfalls below, and consult with our knowledgeable team at Advanced Panel
before purchasing your panels.
4. Because of how they’re constructed, SIRPs are more vulnerable to contraction
and/or expansion than other building materials. Before choosing the insulated
panels and creating a roof design, the potential for movement should be
considered. If it isn’t, the roofing system could fail. Let this possible
contraction and/or expansion be a guide for the size the panels should be, as
well as how their joints should be positioned, and talk to our team for
assistance.
5. All SIRPs must be placed with fasteners. Incompatible fasteners can cause
issues for the roof panels. For example, if the fasteners are made of a different
metal than the steel roof panels, there might be a reaction between the two.
Additionally, ill-sized fasteners can cause panels to loosen and separate, so
purchasing the correct fasteners is just as important as purchasing the correct
panels.
6. Believe it or not, the colour of SIRPs matters way beyond style. For example, a
colour that absorbs heat can cause the outer layer of a panel to overheat and
place stress on the rest of the panel. This can lead to corrosive damage
throughout the roofing system. The exterior of the panels should always reflect
light, so light-coloured panels are first choice. Just remember to specify your
colour choice or you might receive a 'standard' colour.
7. SIRPs can be air tight, but only if the R-value is correct. If you’re not an expert,
it may be impossible to choose panels with the ideal R-value. The higher the
value, however, the more efficient the panels. Panels with higher values will
provide better insulation and a greater thermal barrier between the roof and the
home.
8. To determine the best R-value for their SIRPs, buyers should always
consult with a manufacturer, like one of the knowledgeable people at
Advanced Panel Products. We will be happy to help you choose the
right panels for your project's unique needs. Contact us!
