SURAH AL-QASAS (THE NARRATION)
MECCAN PERIOD
Division: 150
1Ta/9, Sin/60, Mim/40.180
2These are the Ayat of the clear/explanatory Scripture.
3We recite you/make you follow some of the important stories of Moses and
the Pharaoh with truth for a people who believe.
4Surely, the Pharaoh was exalted on the earth and divided the people under his
rule into groups; he wanted to weaken one of these groups; he strangled their sons;
he forbid them from education thus rendering them an unqualified people, and kept
their daughters alive. He truly was one of those mischief-makers.
5And We want to give gifts to those who are oppressed on the earth, make them
leaders and make them inheritors. 6And make them dwell on the earth so strong, and
who the Pharaoh, Haman and their soldiers the things they fear the most.
7And We revealed to Moses’ mother: “Nurse him. If you fear for him, cast him
in the river, do not fear and feel sorry. Surely We will bring him back to you and
make him one of the messengers”.
8Then the family of the Pharaoh picked him as a “finding” to become an enemy
and source of misery for them. surely, the Pharaoh, Haman and their soldiers were
wrong.
9And the Pharaoh’s wife said: “A comfort of eye for me and you! Do not slay
him; do not make Moses unqualified, uneducated as other Israelite children; he may
do benefit for us or we adopt him”. And they realized it not.
10And heart of Moses’ mother overnighted empty. – Had We not solidified her
heart to make her one of those believers, he would almost have disclosed him. –
11And Moses’ mother said to his sister: “Track him down”. She then observed him
without making them realize.
12And We forbid him from feeding from wet nurses. Then his sister came out
and suggested: “Shall I show you a family who can feed him and train him, giving
admonitions, for you?”.
2. 2
13Thus We returned him to his mother to prevent her from suffering his
absence and make her believe that the promise of Allah is fulfilled. – But many of
them do not know this –
14And when Moses grew up to become a brave young man, We revealed him
laws and knowledge. Thus We reward those who act righteously.
15And Moses entered the city while people of it did not realize. Then he found
two men, one from his side and one from the enemy’s side, trying to kill each other.
Then the one who is from his side asked Moses for help. Then, Moses punched the
other, and he died instantly. Moses said: “This is Devil’s work, He surely is a blatant,
misleading enemy”.
16Moses said: “O my Rabb [the Lord, the Cherisher, the Nurturer, the
Sustainer]! I have done wrong to myself. Please forgive me!” and Allah forgave him.
He surely is the Most Forgiving, the Most Merciful.
17Moses said: “O my Rabb [the Lord, the Cherisher, the Nurturer, the
Sustainer]! I swear by Your blessings, I will not help sinners again”.
18Then, Moses overnighted in the city, fearing and watching around. And then
he saw, the one who had asked him for help the day before was asking his help again.
Moses said: “You truly are a transgressor!”.
19And when Moses wanted to seize the one who is an enemy to both of them,
he said: “O Moses! Do you want to kill me as you killed the other man yesterday?
You truly want to be a tyrant on the earth but not a righteous person”.
20And a man came from the other side of the city, running. He said: “O Moses!
Chiefs are disputing among themselves to kill you. Go immediately! I surely am one
of those advisors”.
21Then Moses left the city, fearing, watching around. He said: “O my Rabb [the
Lord, the Cherisher, the Nurturer, the Sustainer]! Save me from this people of
wrong-doers, who act against their own good!”.
22And when Moses headed to Midian, he said: “I hope that my Rabb [the Lord,
the Cherisher, the Nurturer, the Sustainer] will guide me to the righteous path”.
23And when Moses arrived at the well of Midian, he found a people with a
leader who were watering their flocks. And Moses found two women, who were not
as strong as other people watering their flocks, and pulling their flock back. He said:
“What is the matter with you?”. They said: “We cannot water our flock before those
shepherds water their flocks and go; our father is a very old man”.
3. 3
24Then Moses watered their flock. Then he went to the shade and said: “O my
Rabb [the Lord, the Cherisher, the Nurturer, the Sustainer]! I surely am in need for
whatever good you bestow upon me”.
25Then one of two women shyly approached Moses. She said: “Indeed my
father invites you that he may pay you for watering our flock”. Moses came to her
father and told him the story [Qassas]. Her father said: “Do not fear, you are now
safe from that people who act against their own good by associating others with
Allah”.
26One of his two daughters said: “O my father! Hire him. He surely is the best
and the most powerful and the most trustworthy of those who can be hired”.
27And father of the daughters said: “I wish to wed you with one of my two
daughters for serving me for eight years, during which pilgrimage is made. But if
you serve me for ten years, it is up to you; I would not wish to burden you. You will
find me as one of those righteous”.
28Moses said: It is between you and me; whichever these two terms I complete,
there will be no animosity/liability upon me. And Allah be our waqil [the one who
protects and supports and implements]”.
29When Moses fulfilled the term and set out with his family/relatives, he felt a
fire from the mountain. He said to his family: “Wait for me to bring you a tiding; I
felt a fire. Or I will bring a cinder from that fire for you to warm”.
30-32And when he arrived there, he was called from a tree, from the right side of
the valley that was located in that fertile piece of land: “O Moses! Surely, I am Allah,
Rabb [the Lord, the Cherisher, the Nurturer, the Sustainer] of all universes! And
bring forward your knowledge! – And when he saw his knowledge moving like an
invisible entity, he ran away. – O Moses! Come closer, do not fear. You surely are
one of those who are safe. Engage the strength you posses in your chest, you surely
will come out perfectly.181 Draw your wing close to yourself from fear. These are
two evidence sent from your Rabb [the Lord, the Cherisher, the Nurturer, the
Sustainer] for the Pharaoh and his men. Indeed they have become a transgressing
people”.
33,34Moses said: “O my Rabb [the Lord, the Cherisher, the Nurturer, the
Sustainer]! I surely have killed one of them, now I fear that they shall kill me. Send
my brother Aaron with me; he is better and more influential in words than me.
Therefore, send him with me as an assistant who would testify for me. I surely fear
that they shall deny me”.
4. 4
35Allah said: “We will support you with your brother and We create a power,
an authority for you both. Then they shall not be able to reach you because of Our
evidence/signs. You both and those who observe you are superior”.
***
36When Moses came to them with Our clear evidence/sign, they said: “This is
nothing but fabricated and influential knowledge. We have heard from our ancestors
about this”.
37Moses said: “My Rabb [the Lord, the Cherisher, the Nurturer, the Sustainer]
knows best who comes with the guidance to the righteous path and for whom will the
end of the land be better. Surely, those who do wrong by associating others with
Allah; who act against their own good will not reach the salvation”.
38the Pharaoh said: “O chiefs! I do not know any other deity for you than
myself. O Haman! Set a fire on the clay for me; produce bricks and build a tower for
me to get information about Moses’ idol. And surely, I believe with certainty that he
is one of those liars”.
39the Pharaoh and his soldiers acted arrogantly on the earth and they indeed
believed that they would not be returned to Us.
40We seized him and his soldiers and threw them in a large body of water/in the
river. Now behold! How is the end of those who do wrong by associating others with
Allah; who act against their own good!
41And We made them leaders inviting to the fire. On the Day of Qiyamat [the
Day of Resurrection], they shall not receive help.
42And in this world, We made a curse to follow them, make them ostracized,
deprived from the Mercy of Allah. They shall be among those who will be
despised/ostracized on the Day of Qiyamat [the Day of Resurrection].
43And surely, We sent to Moses the Scripture/the Torah as an explicit
admonition, evidence, a guide and mercy for the mankind after We
manipulated/destroyed the first generations.
44And when We revealed to Moses the ten commandments, you were not in the
west. You were not one of those who were present not who witnessed.
45We created many generations and their lives were prolonged. You were not
among the people of Midyan who recited Our Ayat to them; but We are senders of
messengers.
5. 5
46,47And when We called, you were not beside the Tur. Quite opposite, We
revealed to you what happened there, We made you a Messenger to warn a people, to
whom no warner/prophet was sent before you, and as a sign of the mercy of your
Rabb [the Lord, the Cherisher, the Nurturer, the Sustainer], as an admonition for
them to receive, to prevent them from saying, “O our Rabb [the Lord, the Cherisher,
the Nurturer, the Sustainer]! If only You had sent us a prophet thus we could have
followed your Ayat and become believers” when they suffer a trouble for what they
did.
48And when the Truth was revealed to them by Us, they said: “Why have the
Ayat, evidence and signs, which were revealed to Moses previously, not been
revealed to him? Did they not deny what was revealed to Moses? They said: “Two
magic, two influential knowledge that backup each other”. And they also said: “We
surely will not accept all of these”.
49Say: “If you are righteous, bring me a scripture that guides to the righteous
more than the Scripture revealed to me and Moses by Allah, then I will follow it!”.
50If they do not answer despite this, then know that they only follow their
desires. Who is more in perversion [who is confused, fallen] than those who follow
their desires without a Guide from Allah? Surely, Allah does not guide those who do
wrong by associating Him with others; who act against their own good.
51And surely, We sent down the Word [the Wahy [Revelation]/the Qur’an] one
after other for them to take the admonition.
52Those to whom we gave a Scripture before the Word [the Wahy
[Revelation]/the Qur’an] will believe in the Word [the Wahy [Revelation]/the
Qur’an].
53And when the Word [the Wahy [Revelation]/the Qur’an] was recited to them,
they said: “We have believed it. Surely, it is the truth sent by our Rabb [the Lord, the
Cherisher, the Nurturer, the Sustainer]. Surely, we were Muslims before it”.
54They shall receive their reward twice for they have had patience. And they
overcome the evil with the good and they send what is given to them from Our
blessings for the way of Allah/they procure sustenance for those who are in need,
especially their relatives.
55And when they hear vain talk, they turn away and say: “What we do is only
for us and what you do is only for you. Peace be upon you! We do not seek for the
ignorant”.
6. 6
56Indeed, you do not guide those who you love to the wrong path; however,
Allah guides whoever He pleases to the righteous path and He knows better who is
able to find the righteous path He guides to.
57And they said: “Had we followed the guidance to the righteous path with you,
we would have driven out of our land”. Have We not settled them in a secure
place/Mecca182, where fruits of all crops were harvested and brought to them? But
most of them do not know.
58And We manipulated/destroyed many cities, people of which were spoiled by
their wealth. Here are their places! Their domicile which have been not dwelled
much after them. And We are their inheritors.
59Your Rabb [the Lord, the Cherisher, the Nurturer, the Sustainer] does not
manipulate/destroy cities unless He has sent a prophet, who recites Our Ayat to them.
Besides, We do not manipulate/destroy those cities, people of which do wrong by
associating others with Allah; who act against their own good.

60And what you have been given is earnings of the worldly life and its
ornaments. What is by Allah is better and more persistent. Will you not still
understand?
61Then, is he, whom We have promised a good promise and who have received
what We promised, same as those to whom We have given worldly earnings and will
be gathered before Us/will be kept standing “at attention” in our presence on the Day
of Qiyamat [the Day of Resurrection]?
62And on that Day, Allah will call them and say: “Where are my partners that
you used to worship?
63Those against whom the Word will be fulfilled will say: O our Rabb [the
Lord, the Cherisher, the Nurturer, the Sustainer]! They are the people we made
transgress. We made them transgress as we did. We have been afar from you. They
used to worship not only us”.
64And they shall be asked: “Gather your partners!” and they shall gather them.
Then they shall not answer and will see the wrath. – If only they accepted the
righteous path they had been guided! –
65And on that Day, Allah will call them: “How did you answer the Messenger
who had been sent to you?
7. 7
66And on that Day, all the important news will be in darkness to them; they
shall not be able to ask each other.
67But those who repented, believed and did rightful deeds; they may hope to be
among those who will be salvaged.
(49/28; Al-Qasas/60-67)

68And your Rabb [the Lord, the Cherisher, the Nurturer, the Sustainer] creates
what He pleases and chooses what is better for them; for them, there is no right to
choose. Allah is exonerated from all they associate with Him and He is the Most
Glorious.
69And your Rabb [the Lord, the Cherisher, the Nurturer, the Sustainer] knows
what they hide in their chests and what they disclose.
70And He is Allah; no deity but Him. All praise, at the first and at the last, be
upon Him. He is the One to Judge. And you will be returned to Him only.

71Say: “Have you ever thought, if Allah made the night permanent till the Day
of Qiyamat [the Day of Resurrection]? What other deity can bring the light to you?
Will you not still understand?
72Say: “Have you ever thought, if Allah made the day permanent till the Day of
Qiyamat [the Day of Resurrection]? What other deity can bring the night, during
which you rest, to you? Will you not still understand?
73And out of mercy of Allah, He created the night and the day; He created the
night for you to rest and He created the day for you to seek for what He has given
you in abundance and be grateful for the blessing given to you.
74And on that Day, Allah will call them and say: “Where are my partners you
used to worship wrongly?”
75And when We will gather a witness from each people with a leader and say:
“Here, bring your solid evidence!”. Then they shall know that the Truth belongs to
Allah and what they have been fabricating is vanished.

76,77Surely, Korah was among the people of Moses and behaved arrogantly
against them. We gave him such treasures that keys to them would surely be heavy
for a strong people. Once his people said to him: “Do not exult! Allah surely does not
like those who exult. And seek for the Home of Akhirat [Afterlife] what is given to
you by Allah. And do not forget your share from the world! And do good to others as
your Allah does good to you. And do not seek mischief in theworld. Surely Allah
does not like those mischief-makers”.
78Korah said: “This wealth has been given to me for my knowledge”. Did he
know not that Allah had manipulated/destroyed many generations before him, who
were stronger, wealthier, more knowledgeable and had more followers than him. –
And those sinners cannot be blamed for others’ sins. –
79Then Korah came out before his people in ornaments and glory. Those who
desired for the worldly life said: “If only we had been given what Korah had! Surely,
Korah possesses a great fortune”.
80And those who were given the information said: “O woe to you! For those
who have faith and do rightful deeds, the reward that will be given by Allah is better.
And only those who have patience will achieve it”.
81And then We seized him and his house. There was no company for him to
help from those subordinates of Allah and he was not one of those who were able to
defend and save themselves.
82And those who wanted to be in his place yesterday overnighted and said: “O,
this is how Allah increases or decreases His blessings for whom He pleases. Had
Allah not given us gifts, He would have caused the earth to swallow us. And those
infidels; those who consciously deny the Divinity of Allah and the fact that He is
Rabb [the Lord, the Cherisher, the Nurturer, the Sustainer] cannot save themselves”.
(49/28; Al-Qasas/76-82)
Division: 155
83That is the Home of Akhirat! We will prepare it for those who do not seek for
mischief and arrogance on the earth. And the Final Destination is for those who
surrendered themselves under the guardianship of Allah.
84Whoever brings in a good, he will receive a reward better than what he
did/for what he did. And whoever brings in an evil; then he will be recompensed
with the evil deeds that he did.
9. 9
(49/28; Al-Qasas/83-84)
Division: 156
85Allah, Who ordained the Qur’an upon you, will surely return you to the Final
Destination. Say: “My Rabb [the Lord, the Cherisher, the Nurturer, the Sustainer]
knows well who comes with the guidance to the righteous path and who is in a
blatant perversion”.
86And you were not expecting that the Scripture was to be revealed/sent down
to you. It is sent down to you out of mercy of your Rabb [the Lord, the Cherisher, the
Nurturer, the Sustainer]. Then do not aid/help those who consciously deny the
Divinity of Allah and the fact that He is Rabb [the Lord, the Cherisher, the Nurturer,
the Sustainer].
87And do not let those who associate Allah with others forbid you from the
Ayat of Allah after they are revealed to you. And invite people to your Rabb [the
Lord, the Cherisher, the Nurturer, the Sustainer]. And never be one of those who
associate Allah with others!
88And do not worship any other deity but Allah. There is no god but Him. All
will be terminated except His very existence. Only to Him belong the
judgment/principles. You will only be returned to Him. Al-Isra 1Exonerated from all
deficiencies is the One Who, by one night, made His servant walk from Masjid Al-
Haram to Masjid Al-Aqsa184, a part of which We made sacred, to show him one of
Our Ayat/evidence/signs. Surely is He the One Who hears the best and sees the best.

184 What dealt here is the first revelation; the Messenger of Allah [Rasulullah] becoming
a Prophet and the place where the first revelation was sent. Information thereof is given in the
preamble of the Surah An-Naml in terms of form and place. According to the works of Waqidi, two of
the first Islamic historians, namely Kitab Al-Maghazi and of Al-Azraqi, namely Akhbaru’l-Mecca,
there are other masjids than Masjid Al-Haram in different places of Mecca. Even certain houses are
used by the Meccan as masjid. One of those masjid is the “Masjid Al-Aqsa” [the Farthest Masjid], so
named because it is located in the upper part of the Jirane Valley, some 9 miles from Mecca. This
masjid was commenced by a member of the Quraysh tribe. In the light of this information, it can be
10. 10
understood fromthe expression “a part of which We made sacred” mentioned in the Ayah that Masjid
Al-Aqsa is located out of/at the edge of the perimeter of the haram/sacred area. Then, Masjid Al-Aqsa
is not located in Jerusalem but at the edge of the haram/sacred area that is located in Mecca and this
statement mentioned in the Qur’an is consistent with the respective work of Waqidi, an early period
historian and geographer. For detailed information on this matter please refer to Al-Tabyeen al-
Qur’an.
