What is a One-Point Lesson?
A 5-10 minute self-study on one equipment
aspect: structure, function, or inspection.
How to Prepare a One-Point Lesson
1. Present the theme and reason.
2. Ask questions, engage team to reflect on
theme.
3. Demonstrate with real objects when
possible.
4. Ask questions after presentation to ensure
understanding.
5. Repeat lessons if needed, track attendance
and action taken.

Three Purposes of One-Point Lessons
1. To help sharpen equipment related knowledge and skills and
communicate information about specific problems and
improvement.
2. To share important information easily when it is needed.
3. To improve the performance of the entire team.
Three Categories of One-Point Lessons
1. Basic knowledge lessons: Fill in knowledge gaps and ensure people
have knowledge needed for daily production.
2. Examples of problems: Communicate knowledge or skills needed
to prevent problems.
3. Examples of improvement: Tell how to prevent or correct
equipment abnormalities by detailing the approaches, actions, and
results of specific improvement projects.
How to Prepare a One-Point Lesson
1. Present Theme: Present the theme and explain the motivating
reason for writing up the lesson.
2. Engage Team: As you go through the lesson, ask questions of the
group, try to get team members to examine their own knowledge
and behavior relating to the theme.
3. Demonstrate: Don’t rely on only the one-point lesson sheet.
Demonstrate the lesson using the actual objects or parts involved
whenever possible.
4. Check Understanding: Ask people questions after the presentation
and follow up to make sure that everyone has understood.
5. Repeat as Needed: Repeat the lesson several times if necessary,
until you are sure that it has been linked to action. For each
presentation, keep track of the date and the people attending by
noting them on the form.
Tips for Writing Effective Lessons

photographs, or cartoons so everyone can grasp what is important.

immediately, after the problem has occurred and then teach it
while the issue is fresh in everyone’s minds.

How to Prepare a One-Point Lesson 1. Present the theme and reason. 2. Ask questions, engage team to reflect on theme. 3. Demonstrate with real objects when possible. 4. Ask questions after presentation to ensure understanding. 5. Repeat lessons if needed, track attendance and action taken. Three Purposes of One-Point Lessons 1. Sharpen equipment knowledge and skills. 2. Share important information quickly. 3. Improve team performance. Three Categories of One-Point Lessons 1. Basic knowledge: Fill knowledge gaps for daily production. 2. Problem examples: Prevent issues by sharing knowledge. 3. Improvement examples: Correct equipment issues via specific projects. Tips for Writing Effective Lessons 1. Choose a theme from a current workplace problem. 2. Use visuals (drawings, photos) for clarity. 3. Adapt forms to specific needs if borrowing from others. 4. Create problem examples promptly for fresh learning.
