Definition of OPL
1. A One Point Lesson (OPL) is a simple, visual and a single point description of
a task.
2. It’s a simple and effective tool, which describes how a task should be
performed.
3. An OPL is made by using pictures, symbols, simple text and is a short
document.
4. It is a useful tool to convey instructions in a simple and visual manner.
5. This concept is an important part of a management system, which is usually
followed in manufacturing companies, as part of their continuous
improvement in work. (in TPM)
6. We can follow the same concept in engineering education to educate the
faculties and/or students about small-small concepts to utilize it in daily
practice.

Objectives of OPL
1. To sharpen our teaching-learning-related knowledge and skills
by communicating information about specific problems and
improvements.
2. To easily share important information just-in-time.
3. To improve the faculty’s performance.

Outcomes of OPL
1. Many faculties get to know the solution at a time.
2. Improves quality of teaching learning process by
implementing skill.
2. Creates interest in teaching learning activity for the faculties
as well as for the students.

Key Points of OPL
1. Short presentations . 15 to 30 mins. on only one specific point.
2. Usually includes 80 % diagrams, graphics, photos, pictures &
20 % write up.
3. Usually 3 categories of OPL :
a) To give fundamental / basic info of any topic
b) Case study : Explain the solution of your problem
c) Example of improvement experienced by you.
4. To conduct OPL activity once in a week, by any faculty / student at specific
timing on specific day
5. Implement / practice attended OPL activity regularly in day today

(Think of any creative topic which will be useful in academics and which can be
explained / demonstrated effectively in maximum half an hour.)
