1. Audience Research Firstly, I set out to find my target audience and to do this, I took into consideration the themes and issues of my film and thought about who would want to watch it. As the main theme is peer pressure/bullying, it was very appropriate to aim my film towards teenagers aged between 13-16 because they’re more than likely to be affected by it during high school life. I set up a facebook group called ‘Nicola Stanley Media’ and invited many of my classmates as well as older family members . It was necessary to have views from people other than teenagers to because I wanted to get “outsiders’’” perspectives.
3. During my AS year, I undertook research into different UK film production companies as a result of watching social realism feature films such as ‘Last Resort’ and ‘Nil by Mouth’. This year I did more in depth research into possible outlets for my film, focusing on short films. This also helped when finding my target audience because certain companies gained either niche or mainstream audiences. Short films of the social realism genre narrow the audience. I knew I’d be using YouTube and Vimeo as outlets for my film.
4. This is the questionnaire I sent out to people over facebook. I also handed some out.
5. These are examples of a facebook response and how I put the results into graphs.
6. This quote stuck out to me during the pre production process and choosing a target audience and reaching out to them through the themes and issues I had chosen to tackle.
