Within this next portion, I calculated the combined exposure of
the six different pieces of machinery that put off serious noise
hazards.
This combined level of noise is a huge indication of adequate
hearing protecting within this area.

Be safe consulting Inc. was tasked to work for Acme
manufacturing Co. to evaluate the noise levels and if they were
or are hazardous. Also, to identify employees that could be
affected by the noise levels during their shift. Acme must do
this in order to ensure that they can mitigate employee hearing
loss. through hearing conservation programs and training
We will be evaluating the Machine shop using the samples
that were collected during our sample testing. Although we will
not be combining noise levels to get a more accurate reading of
the machine shop.

Taking into consideration all of the results from the sampling
all process could use hearing protection or be part of a hearing
conservation program. when doing the work that reaches over
90dBA. But without combining dBA level we cannot determine
if it is necessary all of the time or only partially.
Carpentry shop #2
Next, we will be tasked to study the #2 Carpentry shop
containing these six machines running constantly table saws,
jointers, planners, drill press and the exhaust systems. A
determination must be made if the shop is a hazardous noise
area since there are 10 employees working in the area. there is
some importance to doing this since the employees may need to
be also added to the hearing protection program (Unit IV)

(Unfortunately, I did not know how to use this method to
calculate the dBA so I used the lengthier method I did want to
include what the formula should look like so as to calculate it
properly )
Or alternately you can subtract dBA reading on machine1 from
machine2 and look at the table on page 277of our text book
Yates 2015. We then add that number to the higher decibel level
and we continue this through all machines.

In conclusion the two initial assessments done in the machine
shop and in the carpentry shop I have concluded that both of
those areas need to be a part of the hearing conservation
program. The machine shop depending on the process could not
be required to wear hearing protection continuously, but
employees in this area should be trained and monitored in the
hearing conservation program. Hearing protection should be
available to them and in close proximity or worn on the
employee to be used as needed.
The carpentry shop is in definite need of hearing conservation
programs. since the average combined dBA in the shop is 95.5
dBA. this should be done as soon as possible and all employees
in the shop should be trained on the proper wear of PPE.

Hazardous Noises Report
After receiving good remarks from your previous work, you
hear that Acme Manufacturing Co. has asked you and BSCI to
return for some additional work. BSCI has been contracted by
Acme Manufacturing Co. to conduct a study to determine
employee exposures to noise. In addition, Acme Manufacturing
Co. has requested that, while on site, you conduct a needs
analysis to determine the development of a new safety training
program, exhibiting training and management techniques.
Explain your methodology and the steps in conducting this
needs analysis. After conducting a field assessment, prepare a
written report for Bob Sanders (CSP) to present to the Board of
Directors. During your field investigation, you find the
following field observations:
Machine Shop #1
The company has an on-site maintenance and repair facility.
Inside Machine Shop #1, there are five employees that operate a

Carpentry Shop #2
Inside Carpentry Shop #2, there are six machines operating
almost continuously, including table saws, planers, exhaust
systems, jointers, with 10 employees working in this area. To
determine whether this table should be designated as a
hazardous noise environment, thus requiring employees to be
entered into the hearing conservation program, you must
calculate combined exposures and treat the entire area as one
noise source. The following table indicates the recorded
measurements that you collected during your on-site
assessment. Does the data from this table indicate a hazardous
noise environment, and do you recommend entering employees
into a hearing conservation program?

Acme Manufacturing is currently considering remodeling this
shop in order to install a new noise absorbing wall and floor
insulation. They have asked that you review the previous
history of noise level exposures in this area and provide your
recommendations. However, this data is given in measurements
of N/m², but the Project Engineer is requesting the information
in W/m². Given the following data, convert N/m² to W/m² and
include it in your report:

Respond to the details in each section, and format your report in
APA style. Include at least each of the following in your report
for this unit:
· Introduction-briefly describe why the studies were performed
(why you started the study).
· Report details-briefly discuss the details of the scenario (what
you found from the study).
· Conclusions and recommendations-briefly describe your
recommendations based on your findings (what you recommend
to resolve any deficiencies).
· Appendix-Measurements and calculations (show your work).
· At least 4 page (double-spaced) in length (not including the
reference page and appendices).
Prepare your report in a word-processing application (i.e.,
Word) using APA formatting for all references and in-text
citations.

  • 1. 1 Running head: OSH 4308 Unit IV Project 2 OSH 4308 Unit IV Project OSH 4308 Unit IV Project Travis Painter Columbia Southern University OSH 4308 Unit IV Project Acme Manufacturing Co. has contracted Be Safe Consulting Inc. again to conduct another evaluation on the hazardous noises that that employees are susceptible to during their day of work. The first portion of this report is evaluating the machine shop #1 and the employee’s individual exposures. Machine Shop #1 Stationary Grinding Wheel (Robert Jones): Sample 1:

  • 5. Sample 3: Carpentry Shop #2 Within this next portion, I calculated the combined exposure of the six different pieces of machinery that put off serious noise hazards. This combined level of noise is a huge indication of adequate hearing protecting within this area. Electric Communication Repair Shop Within this next portion of the report, I was asked to convert the SPL N/m2 to W/m2. East Wall: West Wall: South Wall:

In relation to your doctoral program application, what area of recent research in the field would you want to study, and why? 3. How does your current vocation relate to your application to the doctoral program? 4. How will your experiences and personal skills help you to be successful in your program? 5. What long-term goals do you have for applying your learning from your doctoral program? 1 OSH 4308 Unit IV Project 2
  • 7. OSH 4308 Unit IV Project OSH 4308 Unit IV Project Michael Miranda Columbia Southern University Be safe consulting Inc. was tasked to work for Acme manufacturing Co. to evaluate the noise levels and if they were or are hazardous. Also, to identify employees that could be affected by the noise levels during their shift. Acme must do this in order to ensure that they can mitigate employee hearing loss. through hearing conservation programs and training We will be evaluating the Machine shop using the samples that were collected during our sample testing. Although we will not be combining noise levels to get a more accurate reading of the machine shop. • 14. Carpentry shop #2 Next, we will be tasked to study the #2 Carpentry shop containing these six machines running constantly table saws, jointers, planners, drill press and the exhaust systems. A determination must be made if the shop is a hazardous noise area since there are 10 employees working in the area. there is some importance to doing this since the employees may need to be also added to the hearing protection program (Unit IV) Machine Noise Level (dBA) Table Saw #3 92 dBA Jointer #4 87 dBA Table Saw #5 90 dBA Exhaust Ventilation System 80 dBA

We then add that number to the higher decibel level and we continue this through all machines. • 18. In conclusion the two initial assessments done in the machine shop and in the carpentry shop I have concluded that both of those areas need to be a part of the hearing conservation program. The machine shop depending on the process could not be required to wear hearing protection continuously, but employees in this area should be trained and monitored in the hearing conservation program. Hearing protection should be available to them and in close proximity or worn on the employee to be used as needed. The carpentry shop is in definite need of hearing conservation programs. since the average combined dBA in the shop is 95.5 dBA. this should be done as soon as possible and all employees in the shop should be trained on the proper wear of PPE.

UNIT IV PROJECT OSH4308 Instructions Hazardous Noises Report After receiving good remarks from your previous work, you hear that Acme Manufacturing Co. has asked you and BSCI to return for some additional work. BSCI has been contracted by Acme Manufacturing Co. to conduct a study to determine employee exposures to noise. In addition, Acme Manufacturing Co. has requested that, while on site, you conduct a needs analysis to determine the development of a new safety training program, exhibiting training and management techniques. Explain your methodology and the steps in conducting this needs analysis. After conducting a field assessment, prepare a written report for Bob Sanders (CSP) to present to the Board of Directors. During your field investigation, you find the following field observations: Machine Shop #1 The company has an on-site maintenance and repair facility. Inside Machine Shop #1, there are five employees that operate a variety of machines, ranging from stationary and portable grinders, drill presses, and metal shearers. To determine whether this table should be designated as a hazardous noise environment, thus requiring employees to be entered into the hearing conservation program, you must calculate combined exposures and treat the entire area as one noise source. The following table indicates the recorded measurements that you collected during your on-site assessment. Does the data from this table indicate a hazardous noise environment, and do you recommend entering employees into a hearing conservation program?
