2. THE CAUSE
Lots of carbon dioxide is being pumped
into the atmosphere and it dissolves into
the oceans. This is causing the water in
the oceans to become more acidic and
now plankton have to adapt to the new
environment
3. THE SHELL
As oceans become
more acidic, the
harder it is for the
plankton to make
their calcium
carbonate shells
4. RESEARCH
Researchers experimented with the plankton and exposed them
to carbon dioxide (4 times the amount of that in the
atmosphere).
They found that it took less than a year for the plankton to adapt
and survive the harsh conditions they were put through.
The experimenters also found that the plankton grew much
faster, but didn’t build their shells as quickly.
5. JUNK FOOD
When the plankton evolves, it effects the metabolism
of the creatures that consume it.
Creatures, such as shrimp and jellyfish, won’t get the
provided nutrition they need from the plankton
because the plankton have changed/evolved from
global warming and turns into junk food for the
consumers
