This document outlines the normal preparation protocol for FMT (fecal microbiota transplant) treatment. It details a 3 step process beginning 4 weeks prior to treatment: 1) Taking a stool softener to soften stool, 2) Having a colonic irrigation 10 days before, and 3) Taking a bowel preparation 2-3 days prior. Strict adherence to the preparation is required as failure to properly clear the colon could jeopardize the treatment outcome and result in refusal of treatment.

1. Normal Preparation for FMT
It is extremely important that you follow this protocol exactly.
Please contact the clinic if you have any difficulties or if you feel that you cannot comply with the
preparation for any reason.
Failure to prepare may result in you being refused for treatment and no refunds are given in
these circumstances. The clinic reserves the right to refuse to treat anybody who has ignored
these preparation instructions.
Step One
4 weeks prior to your treatment start taking Oxyklenz, OxyPowder or MagO7 (see supplier info next page)
The aim of this stool softener is to get a very soft and moist stool, which will enable the older compacted
matter in the bowel to become softened and expelled over the 4 weeks prior to your program start.
Dosage – This is the way we want you to take it:
• Take with or after the last meal of the day.
• Start with 2 capsules, then increase by one each evening until you experience very soft bowel
movements the following day.
• If you reach diarrhoea, reduce by one capsule a day until you achieve a softly formed bowel movement
that is looser than the normal consistency for you.
• Heavily impacted patients have needed as much as 10 capsules until they have achieved desired result.
Step Two
10 days prior to your treatment have a colonic irrigation treatment
Please book in for a colonic irrigation (Colon Hydrotherapy) treatment from a reputable, qualified therapist
in your location. Do not go to an “open” system therapist. A “Libbe” system will not cleanse sufficiently.
Step Three
2-3 days before you travel for your treatment take a bowel preparation similar to those used before a
colonoscopy eg. Picolax or Moviprep.
Dosage
Follow the manufacturers’ instructions. Take 2 does if that is how the manufacturer has divided it.
You can eat normally as you are not preparing for colonoscopy.

• Do not skip this preparation.
• Colon impaction can and does exist alongside diarrhoea in the same colon. Even cases where diarrhoea
is the presenting symptom, there may still be a large amount of impacted fecal material adhering to the
colon wall. Removing this hardened matter takes considerable time in clinic and it affects the efficiency
of your treatment.
The above steps will ensure that on arrival, you have a completely clear colon so that the implant can start
to be effective right away and optimise your treatment outcome. Failure to prepare may jeopardise your
program.
