Q.1) (a) Draw a curve traced by a point P bon the circumference for one complete revolution of the circle.
This Circle diameter 45mm rolls along the straight line without slipping.
(b) Construct an ellipse whose eccentricity 2/3 and distance of focus to directrix is 60mm draw
tangent and normal at any point on the curve.
(c) A circle of 50mm diameter rolls on the circumference of another circle of 175mm diameter and
outside it. Trace the locus of point on the circumference of the rolling circle for one complete
revolution. Name the Curve. Draw tangent and normal at any point on the curve.
1) The distance between the foci of an ellipse is 120mm and the minor axis is 75mm long draw
an ellipse by any method and show tangent and Normal at any point on the curve.
2) A coin of 30mm diameter rolls in a straight line on a table. Plot and name the locus of a point
lying on the circumference.
3) A point P is 40mm and 60mm respectively from two straight lines which are at right angles to
each other. Draw the curve passing through the point P within 10mm distance from each line.
i) The major axis of an ellipse is 100mm long and foci are at 15mm from its ends. Find minor
axis and draw the ellipse by ‘arc of circle’ method. Also draw tangent and normal at any
point on the curve.
ii) A ball thrown up in air reaches a maximum height of 120 mm and travels a horizontal
distance of 80mm. Trace the path of the ball, assuming it to be parabolic.
iii) Draw and name the curve traced out by an end of a piece of string when unwound from a
circle of diameter 30mm. Draw a tangent and normal at any point of the curve.
Q.2) Draw free hand sketches of the following machine parts
(a) British association thread.
(b) Eye foundation Bolt
(c) Double riveted (Chain) Lap joint
(d) Hexagonal nut
(e) Acme thread
(f) Castle nut.
(g) Buttress thread.
(h) Woodruff Key.
(i) Lewis foundation Bolt
(j) Single riveted butt joint
(k) Square headed bolt
(l) Split Pin
