How Do Interest Groups Influence Politics
Interest groups are formed to influence political processes in ways that benefit their members and
promote their interests. Linkage institutions connect the people to the government. Special interest
groups, lobbyists, and political action committees are important linkage institutions in the political
process. In fact, the Constitution contains several provisions that protect the right of individuals to
promote their interests in a representative democracy. The Constitution allows for citizens to say
what they would like due to freedom of speech, right to assemble, amd publicly post their opinion
without censorship due to freedom of press. Laws enforced by the Constitution, helped get the point
of view of interest groups across to the majority. Interest groups serve a large role in politics. ...

Interest groups are a group of individuals that unite due to a common interest. Interest groups have
been formed over things like abortion, and gun laws. Due to these groups, they indirectly influence
the government , connecting the groups to the government, making interest groups key linkage
institutions. The ways interest groups influence politics, to get what they want is lobbying, and the
help of political action committees. Lobbying is the act of persuasion, or seeking to influence.
Interest groups lobby by selecting someone to represent their views, go to the capital and put
pressure onto the congressman , and other policymakers. Along with the act of lobbying, interest
groups use political action committees to help them. PACs are organizations formed to collect
money and provide financial support for political candidates. Some political candidates can be a
representative of an interest group, and this is how interest groups benefit from PACs. Interest
groups tend to engage in lobbying, and political action committees to get what they

FOREIGN CORRUPT PRACTICES ACT
1. Discuss the economic and social impact of brides and other similar payments in emerging
economies.
Corruption can take many forms and can be found in many countries, but mainly in the emerging
ones. The main form of corruption is the bribery in the form of payments demanded by the
government or ministry officials in exchange for a favor (granting a service, awarding a
business).Corruption affects all the businesses that interfere with the government, but studies have
shown that certain industries are more exposed to it. These industries are construction, airline
manufacturing, power plants, and oil and gas production. In emerging economies the impact of
bribes and other similar payments can affect ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Overall new procedures put in place were beneficial for Baker Hughes because they improved
compliance and they also improved the company's business operations. 5. Discuss whether the
payments outlined on pages 12 and 13 are foreign corrupt practices.
Yes, I think that the payments outlined on pages 12 and 13 should be considered corrupt practices
because of the way they were registered in the company's books –it was in compliance with the
FCPA because of the anti–bribery provision and the books and records provision.
6. Evaluate whether the changes in Exhibits 4 and 5 are likely to stop future foreign corrupt
practices at Baker Hughes.
All the changes in Exhibits 4 and 5 are related to the agents that Baker Hughes will use in the future.
The changes in Exhibits 4 and 5 are likely to stop future corrupt practices at Baker Hughes because
they will provide the company with more information about the agents that they are about to hire
(information that they didn't have before). The information is referring to agents' background,
competence, reputation, their intentions, experience, skills, and their integrity and willingness to
comply with FCPA. So Baker Hughes will be able to prevent and eliminate any acts of corruptions.
7. Discuss how the compliance and governance changes are likely to impact the future profits and
shareholder value at Baker Hughes.

Dentex Case Essay
Final Assignment
Business Ethics and Corporate Social Responsibility
ADMS 3660, Section A
Professor: Anton Petrenko
Anika Sultana
Student no– 212333332
Date: 4th December 2014
The problems and issues mentioned in the case Dentex Corporation are:
1. Issue related to corporate social responsibility
2. Issue related to promotional deceiving
3. Issue related to equal opportunity in workplace
4. Issue related to employee responsibility
5. Issue related to bribery
1. Issue related to corporate social responsibility
One of the major issues mentioned in the case is about corporate social responsibility. Dentex
Corporation came up with the styling new line of car, Rento. It was considered as a rushed project,
thus they skipped ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The deontological ethics states that there are things that we must do as a matter of principle
regardless of consequences (Moral standards, PowerPoint Slides). Here the Vice President, Rodford
had to act on the best interest of the company in making profit and surviving the competition against
European and Japanese cars. Therefore he ignored the fact of putting people in risk of accidents. The
positive right test assists the wellbeing of the company and its employee by making sales and profit.
Whereas the negative right test overrides the wellbeing of the customers and the community
members with the risk of death. Again since life is irreplaceable and profit can substituted by other
means, the action of the company is wrong from the deontological view too.
The policy that Dentex Corporation should follow is strict rules and regulation for the Product
Planning Committee regarding product safety. There should be more awareness raised among the
employees and management regarding the ethical responsibility towards the customers and society
as a whole.
2. Issue related to promotional deceiving
Another issue mentioned in the case is the deceptive advertising. Since the image of Rento was
hampered because of the accidents, Dentex decided to develop a manipulative marketing strategy.
Their strategy included targeting the young male crowd between the ages of 16 to 24, who can be
influenced easily. The experimental researched and focus groups showed that this

U.s. Foreign Corrupt Practices Act Of 1977
The FCPA (Foreign Corrupt Practices Act of 1977 was passed to ensure that U.S. firms do not
engage in illegal bribing of foreign government officials to assist in obtaining or retaining business.
Specifically, this act prohibits any offer, promise to pay, payment or even authorization of payment
to a foreign official to influence it, secure any advantage or to assist in obtaining or retaining
business.
The presenting team used the Walmart case as basis for the debate as it is relevant to the issue in
question. In April 2012, the NYT reported that the Walmart management in Mexico paid bribes of
$24 million and $16 million in ""donation" to Mexico local government to help expand the business
there. In their debate that team chose to explore the possibility of expansion to China while debating
the pros and cons of bribery/ "pay for play" in China in order to succeed there.
The arguments that resonated with me the most were the ethical arguments as I found myself
agreeing with both sides of the argument.
On one hand, it is obviously unethical to break the law and bribe but more importantly from a
utilitarian perspective, this action will hurt the greater good or "stakeholders" who are the whole
society. Bribing corrupt authorities will only perpetuate the corruption in those countries and once a
company or individual has gone down that road it is very difficult to return. Bribery also encourages
unfair competition that hurts the economy which eventually affects the whole

Joe To Go
When expanding into a global marketplace, companies must select a means of market entry. The
decision to export, franchise, build a strategic alliance, establish a joint venture, and make a direct
investment is based upon two things: an organization's interest in maintaining marketing control and
how much of a financial investment it is willing to make. This holds true for 5 Bucks and Joe to Go,
both of which are coffee retailers that want to enter emerging urban markets in India. 5 Bucks
prefers to maintain greater control afforded by a joint venture and is willing to take on greater
financial risk. Joe to Go, on the other hand, is not as willing to take on high levels of financial risk
and is willing to rely on its franchisees to effectively market and brand Joe to Go in India. Both
options require their local partners to adjust offerings to meet the needs of the local population while
maintaining similarities in product, look, and experience across global locations.
Once an organization has decided to expand into the global marketplace, it must select a method of
market entry. Companies may choose from five general options: (1) exporting, (2) franchising, (3) a
strategic alliance, (4) a joint venture, and (5) direct investment. Deciding which option is right for an
organization is based upon the level of financial commitment, risk, ... Show more content on

Why has expanding to global markets increased in the past decade? This has expanded because we
are experiencing a most profound transformation since they emerged in the 17th and 18th century.
Pirates were considered global. They could sail anywhere and trade goods from other countries. The
collapse of the Soviet Union, the enormously rich Japan, the reunification of Germany, and the end
of the cold war are influencing every aspect of international affairs. These changes that originated in
early times have become prominent. This include the revolution of computers.

The Pros And Cons Of Lobbying And Arguments
Through careful analysis of lobbying regulations, the effects will be analyzed on its positive affects
on people, and how it negatively affects. Through the examination of past bills passed in
government that were influenced by lobbying, the pros and cons may be examined. Research from
academic journals has been compiled. It will show that without a proper regulatory entity, lobbying
is dangerous to american citizens. The sum of money a company puts into lobbying, and which
companies use lobbying will also be inspected. If it is just private companies, or rather public
companies also. Therefore in order for lobbying to be successful it must be devoid of all personal
influence, and propose policy that benefits all American citizens. Lobbying is an extremely
controversial topic in American politics. Some citizens believe it is right for a company, and only
helps the economy. On the other hand, citizens say that lobbying opens the door for corruption.
However, in order to fully understand the pros and cons of lobbying first the basic definition of
lobbying must be understood. The word lobby is defined ethical infringements by politicians and
lobbyists. One of the most eminent ethical issues was gift giving. Lobbyists in order to influence a
politician many ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The majority of lobbying laws are state laws. The severity of lobbying regulation varies between
states. Some states require written disclosure of meetings with politicians, while others do not even
require the disclosure of gifts. However, although state laws may vary, the majority all came into
being after a lobbying scandal. In midst of a scandal legislators feel pressure to address the issue.
Therefore regulations are usually introduced in the wake of a scandal. Media coverage is a large
component also. If the scandal gains national coverage that raises the pressure on politicians to pass

Minimum Wage Pros And Cons Essay
Cons of the minimum wage: As discussed earlier, the minimum wage would ultimately increase
unemployment levels due to the labour getting costlier. This would not only threaten the current
workers, but would also affect the unemployed people looking for jobs. Securing a job would be
more challenging as employers would want to hire the best possible candidates who they deem
worthy of the minimum wage.
10 Another disadvantage of having a minimum wage is the 'Deadweight loss from Minimum Wage'.
Plenty of people who work in the unorganised sector, have those jobs because they are willing to
work for less. They provide cheap labour and thus are affordable to hire in those industries.
However, with minimum wage, a business would prefer having ... Show more content on

Darren Fryer February 1, 2012 BA 370 Closing Case: Nicolo Pignatelli and Gulf Italia What should
Pignatelli do? What would you do and why? In this situation, Pignatelli should go with his second
option: asking his more influential partners to pressure government officials to quickly grant the two

government authorization. This is his best option because it is much less threatening to his company

Pignatelli to do this, I would not confront him or go to the media because I did not have a direct

The Importance Of Negotiation And A Business Environment
1.1 Explain the importance of negotiation in a business environment Negotiation is the route in
which two individuals or businesses go through in order to reach an outcome or result that is
mutually beneficial, this is usually done through either compromise or agreement. Negotiation can
be used when a business is buying/selling products/services staffing or compiling contracts.
Businesses will try to get the best outcome for themselves, however it is important to be able to
compromise or give and take as occasionally a deal could be lost as the business has stood firm. All
businesses will need to negotiate at some point, without negotiation discontent or conflict may
occur, and the main reason negotiation is used is to avoid this, and to ... Show more content on

Grassroots organizatoins can be very effective if enough people people get behind an idea or bill.
Larger stakeholders try to influence the law makers by using money or bribery to coax lawmakers
into doing what they want them to do. These people a wealth of money and are more than willing to
toss it as a candidate or politician who will do their biddings. Grassroots organizations can get
things done without the money incentives by appealing to congress's will to do good. Grassroots
organizations get thier power by the sheer number of people who back them. These organizations
don't temp the congress with money but rather emphasis all the good that will come out of their
agenda. These decisions can affect a large number of people suddenly and abruptly. Even the large

business or service may in fact run out of business. Martin Luther King Jr knew this and rallied
enough people to change the bus lines. Some things are more important than money, and most of
Congress realized that. The environment, for instance, is something that can never be replaced if
pollution and other harmful events aren't kept under control. Exxon and other oil companies and

What Are The Challenges In Conducting Business
Specific challenges when conducting business
Russia's authoritative government has a strong grip on its domestic business environment, leading to
corruption and ambiguity in accepted business ethics and culture. These accepted business ethics
and informal policies lead to foreign investors being weary of conducting business with Russian
firms. In plain English, businesses seeking to expand and invest into Russia are driven away by the
inability to trust Russia's government, the ruling power in the major sectors of its economy.
Following the Ukrainian Crisis in 2014, the United States imposed sanctions that strictly limited
individuals in conducting business in the major sectors of the Russian economy. However, it was not

However, lack of enforcement of these new measures of the law in combination with the
unmotivated and advocated campaigns of the domestic businesses to achieve the status of being a
legally–sound business have resulted in little change to the accepted business culture that exists in
Russia. Since there is this lack of enforcement on Russia's behalf, only so much can be done in order
to make a change if there is no one pressing on these illegal actions.
Foreign companies that were recently involved in communication with the government authorities
of Russia were asked to describe their experience. Many of the companies noted the government
officials as difficult to communicate with. Other common difficulties that occurred when
communicating with the government officials include: difficulty establishing contacts, lack of public
outreach, the reluctance of officials to address issues that were raised, feedback, inconsistent and
selective law enforcement, and ambiguous decision–making process ("Investment Climate in
Russia"). In short, the measures implemented by the Russian government to welcome foreign
investors have not shortened the gap between implementation on paper and in practice. With little
influence on the development of the businesses thus far, perhaps the development of practices may
need guidance.

The Pros And Cons Of Interest Groups
Advantages and Disadvantages of Interest Groups
Before discussing the pros and cons of interest groups, it is best to first gain a better understanding
of what these organizations are. Interest groups are any association of individuals or groups who
have a common interest and are working together to promote their interest and to influence public
policy in its favor. Their goal is to affect government policy by lobbying, a process that involves
pressuring the different branches of government to create policies that will benefit the members of
the interest group or a broader public purpose. They are also known as lobby groups, advocacy

List of Disadvantages of Interest Groups
1. They usually look at things from the perspective of the minority only.
Opposing proponents of believe that lobby groups do not look out for the common good of the
majority because they focus only on benefits for the minority. One of the best examples is how the
National Rifle Association continues to block stricter gun laws when most Americans want tighter
gun control. Also, since there are so many conflicting interests in society, critics insist there is no
common good.
2. They are only beneficial for themselves.
Critics say that campaign group systems will only be effective for economic group systems since
they have greater bigger financial resources. Additionally, they tend to give more favor to the
interests of the upper or middle class over the poor because the lower class don't have a lot of money
to contribute to their causes.

Pros and Cons for Each of The Four Parenting Styles
To be a parent is hard work. Although every parent has a different mindset towards raising a child,
the types of parenting styles can be distinguished amongst a few different kinds. In this research
paper, one will learn the pros and cons for each of the four parenting styles described by Baumrind
and the effect each one has on a child. Baumrind based her studies towards the development of
adolescents and how the specific parenting style has influenced the child. With her findings, she
found that there are four different styles that most kids were classified under, with authoritative
being one of the highest. The way a parent raises his or her child will affect that child for the rest of

This means a parent exhibits the same behavior that they expect their child to follow. These parents
tend to set high standards for their children but are also nurturing and responsive. They also show
plenty of respect towards their child who as a result of this style develop into an independent,
rational human being. Children who are nurtured under this type of style are more likely to not only
become independent and self–confident but also socially accepted, academically successful, and
well–behaved individuals. But of course not every style is perfect. This style may also cause some
less than desirable results. The first thing to realize is that being an authoritative parent is not an
acceptable style for every child. Some kids will not react well because the authoritative style may
not be strict enough for their personality and on other kids it will seem as though it is too tough and
will cause those kids to struggle with making decisions. These types of children tend to do better
when there are strict rules given. Although the authoritative parenting style is the most common
style parenting, it does not fit the need of every parent and every child. Authoritarian is the second
most common type of parenting style of the four parenting styles. This type of style occurs when
parents set very high expectations for their children and set strict rules that they expect him or her

Ethical And Moral Aspects Of Unethical Practices
Introduction Unethical practices by organizations in the oil sector are frequently increasing as the
pressure to compete and succeed compels them to ignore the ethical and moral aspects of their
practices and decision–making. In order to maximize value for its shareholders and gain
profitability, some oil companies willfully engage in unethical practices. Companies like Halliburton
and Shell have made the headlines of many newspapers due to the unethical practices they engaged
in. In May 2003, Halliburton revealed in SEC filings that its KBR subsidiary had paid a Nigerian

controversies, including the Deepwater Horizon explosion, for which it agreed to settle outstanding
legal claims against it by paying its litigants $1.1 billion. Sadly, many other companies like
Halliburton engage in corrupt practices and even make it a part of their operational policy to cut
corners, accept and give kick–backs in order to get juicy contracts and maximize profits. In today's
business environment, the dividing line between right and wrong is fading as even workers with
high moral standards are helpless against unethical behavior they notice in their colleagues which

Pros And Cons Of Bribery
Ethical issues such as bribery and corruption in a cultural context are sometimes systemic and cause
much harm to organizations and society as a whole. Societies or countries heavily in depth of
corruption lose all of their moral values and standards. Developing countries need leaders who are
committed to ethical issues, support their people to uphold ethical standards and behave in an open
and transparent ways to send the message that the fight against corruption is taken seriously. Bribery
is unethical because it results in distortion of the marketplace. As a result, people who deserve to
gain something actually gain very little or nothing. Bribery means that someone gives another
person something that they want in order to change the recipient's behavior. For example, if
someone is running for office and they give people money in exchange for votes, this is a form of

He who is willing to pay the most will be granted the exemption, will shut out the competitor, and

likely to capture the popular imagination. Bribers understand this, and for that very reason they do
not advertise their actions and are condemned to act behind the scenes, on the margins of legality
and morality. Of course, bribery and corruption are betrayals of trust. Noonan also puts it elegantly
when he says: "the social injury inflicted by breaches of trust goes beyond any material
measurement. When government officials act to enrich themselves they act against the fabric on
which they depend, for what else does government rest upon except the expectation that those
chosen to act for the public welfare will serve that welfare?" Equally important, bribery and
corruption are deeply at odds with the moral basis of most of the world's great religions, which have

Why Is It A Good Idea To Pay Students For Good Grades
In some schools across the country, straight–A students are being rewarded with money, ski passes
and even cars! In our society people are rewarded for a job well done. Little kids get candy or
stickers for doing what they're told, adults get bonuses at work for doing their job well, but more
and more students are getting rewards for good grades. Like at Bloom trail high school, a school that
pays $50 per month to kids with good attendance and grades of all C's or better. Is this doing more
good or harm? There are pros and cons to this issue, but after analyzing the evidence, I think that it
is a good idea to pay students for good grades. Even though I think this, I will show the cons first.
Some educators, parents and even students think ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Originally I thought no. I did see the arguments against paying and considered it could make trouble
for teachers or the money could be used for other educational expenses or it might be morally
wrong. Then I read about how paying underprivileged kids could keep them in school instead of
dropping out and how it could change their lives for better. They could learn about money, get a
decent job, or even go to college. They could even get a full scholarship, which is the ultimate
reward for good grades. When I thought about it that way, how it could change a student's life
forever, I changed my mind. Now I am in favor of good

Interest Groups Influence Political Processes
Interest groups are formed to influence political processes in ways that benefit their members and
promote their interests. Linkage institutions connect the people to the government. Special interest
groups, lobbyists, and political action committees are important linkage institutions in the political
process. In fact, the Constitution contain several provisions that protect the right of individuals to
promote their interests in a representative democracy. Interest groups serve a large role in politics.
The government gets impacted by interests groups on a day to day basis. Interest groups are a group

Siam Canadian Foods
1. Siam Canadian Foods, founded and managed by Jim Gulkin, is a Bangkok–based Canadian–
owned company that has been involved in the seafood brokerage business for almost 10 years. Now,
(in 1996), as an enthusiastic and highly–motivated entrepreneur, the managing director of the
company, Gulkin, saw an emerging opportunity in Burma. Burma, a country in South Asia, a region
well–known by Gulkin, has many attractive qualities that could lead to a potential success for the
company. Fist of all, Burma is the largest mainland country in the region, with the population of 47
million. This could entail more opportunities emerging for entrepreneurs both inside and outside of
the country. The country had also bordered Gulkin's established business ... Show more content on

As stated in the case, the reason that Gulkin rejected the idea of going to Burma back in 1992 was
the fact that the seafood market was primarily dominated by locals who favored "connections". I
assume that these connections would be primarily motivated by bribery of some of the industry
leaders. As discussed in the case, Gulkin had reconsidered Burma back in 1994 when he discovered
that the industry was generated by non–politically connected businesspeople. One of the main
reasons that Gulkin is so confident that corruption in Burma would not be on his way of doing
business there is the fact that he believes in his entrepreneurial spirit and his ability to quickly
connect and develop trust in people. It takes a great deal of confidence to penetrate the market that is
highly patriotic and tightly controlled by highly assimilated Asian community. However, Gulkin's
ability to quickly recognize and take advantage of international business opportunity, and, moreover,
his ability to connect with people from different cultures helped him to overcome obstacles and
successfully manage his business for almost tem years. It is important to keep in mind that ethics
play an important role in how an entrepreneur should conduct business not just at the domestic
stage, but also at the international stage. 3. The question of what should Gulkin do should be

The Country Of Moldova And The European Union
Until recently, the country of Moldova did not even exist to my knowledge. I had never heard its
name, did not know where it was located, and I obviously had no idea about the extremely complex
and serious ongoing issue with their government system. Moldova is one of the poorest countries in
all of Europe and has been tossed around between Russian and Romanian control since the 16th
century. It only officially declared its sovereignty from its last owner, Russia, in 1990, its
independence in 1991, and became a part of the United Nations in 1992. Even though it finally
gained its independence, Moldova just cannot win for losing. It seems no matter what political
decisions they make, they are wrong and ultimately pissing off someone. The ... Show more content

This gave many people in Moldova the impression that if the country sides with the EU, they will be
lead into corruption which boosted the amount of Pro–Russian supporters. Romania is also noticing
this corruption occurring in the Moldovan government and is questioning Moldova's ability to be a
part of the EU. I chose to research this issue because the current corruption of the Moldovan
government and its impact on its people, is going to play a major role in the future of Moldova as a
country. How these events are influencing the opinions of the people will ultimately determine the
structure of Moldova's government, and this is a big deal for this struggling country. I personally do
not have an opinion yet about this issue as I am not adequately informed about the pros and cons of
the two political parties in conflict, but I hope to be able to better understand the two sides of this
issue and possibly develop my own opinion on the issue of Moldova's future government. Moldova's
people are faced between the choices of Socialist Russia, who is impressing on them with
economical threats, or continuing down the path towards the EU, which as their government appears
to be bathed with corrupted politics and politicians, is proving to be more of an obstacle than once
imagined. Of which is the lesser of two evils for this poor, literally and figuratively, European
country?

VI. Discussion of Frameworks
Sources of Management Ethics
Dyck and Neubert (2012) defined ethics as "[A] set of principles or moral standards that
differentiate right from wrong". It is a way of determining the morality of any action. It is important
that managers adhere to ethical principles that will guide them in making appropriate and ethical
decisions for the company. Thus, Roger Berg, being Vice–President of Planning at The Lake
Corporation plays a significant role in the company in ensuring that decisions are made without
tarnishing management ethics. He must face and weather through the challenges caused by other
sources that could put him in ethical dilemma situations and push him to render management
decisions violating ethics.
Moral Philosophy of "Egoism" By giving Del the benefit of the doubt, the consequentialist approach
– egoism – could not be firmly established in the case. Without clear indications of and espousal by
Del taking advantage of his connections with Dr. Neil and using the opportunity as a chance to
totally convince Roger to recommend him for the project, the application of the moral philosophy of
egoism approach could be hardly justified. Merely, facts of the case suggest that Del only told Roger
about his acquaintance with Dr. Neil and did not even ask for any favors outright. As

Pros And Cons Of The Company BAE
In the summer of 2007, the media announced that the arms company BAE which is a British defense
firm, secretly paid more than $2 billion in bribes for over 20 years to a member of the Saudi Arabia
royal family, the Prince Bandar. The Prince had provided one of the biggest weapons contract with
Britain; Saudi Arabia was purchasing warplanes, spare parts, and training for Saudi pilots. After they
found that BAE was paying bribes to the Prince, some of the payments were channeled by an

these transactions. Consequently, the Prime Minister Tony Blair gave the order to put an end to the

Satire And Irony, Much Like Doughnuts And Bribery
The use of satire and irony, much like doughnuts and bribery, tends to be a creative way of getting
someone to see things from your viewpoint. Unfortunately, unlike doughnuts and bribery, satire and
irony are often misinterpreted by the public in extraordinary ways. What was meant to be
educational might be deemed ignorant, and what was meant to be a productive critique of race
relations and the educational system might be deemed "the most grotesque example of racist trash
ever written."
While I'm not trying to call out one person in particular for misunderstanding my work (and
certainly not a Mr. John H. Wallace), I would like to clarify my intentions in writing my most
misunderstood piece of work, The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn. I would also like to comment
on the current state of the society and politics of this great nation which we call home. I should say
first, however, that I find it highly amusing that the people in this country have the time to attack a
work that is purposefully jarring when America is falling apart around their ears. A high wealth gap,
elections influenced by rich idiots in support of other, more easily influenced rich idiots, and the
culture of having "faux–morals" are some of the things slowly eating away at the soul of this
country. Despite all this, there may still be hope of mending things in the future. The tradition of
using satire and irony to effect change (which I'd like to believe that I started) has survived through

Controlling Organized Crime Paper
Controlling Organized Crime

Charles Davis
Organized crime groups have been around since the 1900's. The mafia who came from Italy and
other countries to the United States started their business and became a nuisance over a period. The
mob became a problem for society with their illegal activities such as gambling, racketeering and
prostitution that includes other violent behaviors. The mafia was famous for manipulating
individuals with their power and greed. These organized crime units became so popular that it took a
group of FBI special agents and special trained police officers to shut down the most powerful and
notorious organized crime units.

One solution in preventing organized crime will be to charge all persons involved in illegal
activities. To bring these people to justice and made an example. These individuals should face hard
time for their illegal activities.
Providing harsher sentences will deter individuals from joining these organized groups, or gangs are
to show these individuals that they can and will be punished for their crimes. Bring more police
power to high crime areas could also eliminate the initiation of these groups. Educating individuals
on the importance of how not to join these groups could put trust back into the community. Provide
more job training and alternative actions when they fear intimidation of joining these groups. Police
officers should have extensive training that teaches how to conduct productive investigations could
also eliminate criminal acts.
Organized crime consists of members of a group who carry out criminal acts to gain profit and
power. This action could include murder, abuse and intimidation among their members. The use of
violence prevents members within a neighborhood or the group to come forward; this makes it hard
to bring the organizers to justice. Organized crime groups and gangs act under some of the same
structures that make it hard to distinguish if they are

Campaign Finance Reform Should Be Restricted And Monitored
In American society, campaign finance reform is continuously a topic of discussion. This year's

candidates spending for all candidates who ran in this year's election will be an estimated total of 4.4

acknowledge that the current system is broken. Campaign finance should be restricted and

Political spending helps voters make informed decisions at the ballot box, and fosters trust in the

disclosure and reporting requirements, setting contribution limits to candidate campaign, and by

President of the United States, Vice President, and Senator or House of Representatives have the
responsibility to contact the Federal Election Commission to obtain forms and information regarding
Federal Campaign requirements and filing deadlines (De Gruyter). States use public financing of

Pros And Cons Of Due Process Model
Assignment #1
The Due Process Model works in a way where it is designed to present the individual that is accused
with a crime with a protection that can be utilized as an obstacle to the government and the criminal
justice system when trying to prosecute those that are charged with possible felony. The method of
the due process model gives everyone a chance to be innocent until proven guilty instead of an
immediate punishment just so society can be pleased. The due process also works to give chances to
those who are a criminal a chance to change their ways, although it might not always work. The fact
that some innocent individual might go through punishment the model gives the right for legal

The pros of this model being adopted to the criminal justice system gives a chance to all individuals
by giving them the same right as everyone else. The due process model gives a chance to those who
appear to be guilty by the astounding evidence provided and gives the felon an opportunity so the
justice process is not rushed. The model gives double jeopardy to the offender as well as the chance
to rehabilitate those of crimes. The criminals who are rehabilitated can return to the community. The
government shouldn't hold an individual guilty based on facts on a person gives just to "get it over

legal procedures in every stage of the process. Although there are many positives, there are also
many cons. The downside to the due process model is that it can take a long time, maybe even years
to establish a decision on whether who is right, the accused or accuser. There can be misleading

and attorneys, and the bribery to the judges and attorneys. Bribery can potentially lead to unfairness

examples of the drugs that are commonly abused nowadays were legally and readily available in the
19th century. Some of the remedies for most arrays of diseases were heroin and cocaine used as
non–addictive painkillers. As the time moved, thousands of world population diverted to opiates and

extent affect the mind functioning leading to change in moods and consciousness. Since their
illegality, they have remained scarce as they are only sold in black markets. People have attributed
the distribution, sale and consumption of these drugs with violence and drug addiction. Due to these

Paid For Grades
Should students be paid for earning good grades? In schools today, there are ways that they use
methods or tactics to motivate or convince students to do better in class, for the reputation of the
school, increased attendance or to increase test scores. One way or method that is used to achieve
these goals is the use cash for grades. Which is basically paying students money for grades like A's

Or they could be suffering from issues that don't even involve school, but from home which the cash

actually finding a way to motivate students without the use of bribery. Also, if schools have to
absolutely resort to using money to buy education they are just prolonging the fact that students will
become even more unmotivated once the money is not enough for them to keep moving forward
with their success.
Although this idea does motivate students to do better and provides benefits for a student's success,
it just doesn't cut it. It has great potential but has major flaws that hold it back from being a great
way to motivate students. If the program were used in a different way that actually solved the

Being A Roman Governor Essay
The administration of Roman ruled provinces was unusual. They let the provinces continue using
their own local forms of law, with the exception of Lex Provinciae. However each province was sent
an elected official that had run to become governor. These Roman governors had some amount of
power once they set foot onto their new province. Some Roman governors tried really hard to be
upstanding but faced many problems such as language and culture barriers. A specific one would be
the eastern customs of giving and receiving gifts which could be considered a bribe. Governors
could either take the gift and be accused of bribery or risk offending the local population. Many
unscrupulous governors took the opportunity and accepted these gifts. However I understand why
some would act this way, since they are trying to pay off their campaign debts as well as trying not

And then there is the issue of the publicani. The Romans themselves did not collect taxes from the

syndicates that would bid on contracts to collect taxes. This was a problem since they were almost
'untouchable' due to the fact that the senate can't regulate them and the governors can't discipline
them. Many times corrupt or unethical governors would team up with the syndicate and make some
extra income while providing the publicani with some man power. It was hard to bring corrupt

Corruption reduces the efficiencies of the operations of the market economy and a loss of direct

Exhibits 4 and 5 are likely to help stop future foreign corrupt practices. To have a set of rules and
expectations such as in Exhibit 4, the due diligence procedures, helps by leaving a paper trail. It is
important to document the process of hiring a new agent, to make sure that you are complying with
the FCPA. Exhibit 5 is also helpful because it is a reference point for anyone who may not be
familiar with corruption in international business. To have a set of red flags that can be referenced, it
can reduce employees just looking the other way and claiming they were not aware of the potential
for corruption during a business deal. While neither of these will stop every occurrence of corrupt
practices, having them in place will cause employees to think twice about engaging in such
practices. If there is a standard for everyone to follow, it will also be easier to catch those that still
decide to intentionally engage in foreign corrupt practices because they will be unable to say they
did not know what was happening.

Globalisation is the shift toward a more integrated and interdependent world economy. The
globalization of markets refers to the merging of historically distinct and separate national markets

Being it a local or foreign investor or business owner, the law gives the business owners the
environment to settle dispute by avoiding court entanglement system, but instead can settle dispute
by considering arbitration. In this way, disputes between businesses or individuals and businesses
can easily be settled, and time saved for the business to continue with its activities. Should in case
arbitration failed, the dispute must be taken in the court and judgment passed by the appropriate
authority without any form of bias. Using arbitration as a method of disputes settlement is essential
in Cameroon due to the fact that when dispute is taken to court, it can take years before judgment
can be finally made. The Nature and Sources of Law in Cameroon Turning into the nature and
source of law in Cameroon, one will notice that the legal system of this nation is a relic of the

December 2, 2014 The topic of business ethics is not as concrete as other areas of study. It has
various meanings depending on the location of where the study or practice is taking place. An action
that someone in America would deem as socially acceptable, ethical behavior, may not be in
accordance with the societal norms of another nation. Normally this doesn't raise too big of a
problem with business, as most businesses only operate within a single nation. However, this is an
incredibly important concept to those businesses that practice within the global market.
Globalization is an excellent way to expand your business, but as we can see with the case of the
Securities and Exchange Commission vs. Diebold inc., the ethical barriers between nations may not
be so easy to follow.
A Discussion of the Pros and Cons of Globalization in Regards to Ethics
Globalization is what describes the interconnectedness of the world as a whole. In today's world we

Globalization offers many lucrative opportunities in the world of business. One company that could

How Do Interest Groups Influence Politics

  • 1. How Do Interest Groups Influence Politics Interest groups are formed to influence political processes in ways that benefit their members and promote their interests. Linkage institutions connect the people to the government. Special interest groups, lobbyists, and political action committees are important linkage institutions in the political process. In fact, the Constitution contains several provisions that protect the right of individuals to promote their interests in a representative democracy. The Constitution allows for citizens to say what they would like due to freedom of speech, right to assemble, amd publicly post their opinion without censorship due to freedom of press. Laws enforced by the Constitution, helped get the point of view of interest groups across to the majority. Interest groups serve a large role in politics. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Interest groups are a group of individuals that unite due to a common interest. Interest groups have been formed over things like abortion, and gun laws. Due to these groups, they indirectly influence the government , connecting the groups to the government, making interest groups key linkage institutions. The ways interest groups influence politics, to get what they want is lobbying, and the help of political action committees. Lobbying is the act of persuasion, or seeking to influence. Interest groups lobby by selecting someone to represent their views, go to the capital and put pressure onto the congressman , and other policymakers. Along with the act of lobbying, interest groups use political action committees to help them. PACs are organizations formed to collect money and provide financial support for political candidates. • 5. Baker Hughes FOREIGN CORRUPT PRACTICES ACT 1. Discuss the economic and social impact of brides and other similar payments in emerging economies. Corruption can take many forms and can be found in many countries, but mainly in the emerging ones. The main form of corruption is the bribery in the form of payments demanded by the government or ministry officials in exchange for a favor (granting a service, awarding a business).Corruption affects all the businesses that interfere with the government, but studies have shown that certain industries are more exposed to it. These industries are construction, airline manufacturing, power plants, and oil and gas production. In emerging economies the impact of bribes and other similar payments can affect ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Overall new procedures put in place were beneficial for Baker Hughes because they improved compliance and they also improved the company's business operations. 5. Discuss whether the payments outlined on pages 12 and 13 are foreign corrupt practices. Yes, I think that the payments outlined on pages 12 and 13 should be considered corrupt practices because of the way they were registered in the company's books –it was in compliance with the FCPA because of the anti–bribery provision and the books and records provision. 6. Evaluate whether the changes in Exhibits 4 and 5 are likely to stop future foreign corrupt practices at Baker Hughes. All the changes in Exhibits 4 and 5 are related to the agents that Baker Hughes will use in the future. The changes in Exhibits 4 and 5 are likely to stop future corrupt practices at Baker Hughes because they will provide the company with more information about the agents that they are about to hire (information that they didn't have before). The information is referring to agents' background, competence, reputation, their intentions, experience, skills, and their integrity and willingness to comply with FCPA. So Baker Hughes will be able to prevent and eliminate any acts of corruptions. 7. Dentex Case Essay Final Assignment Business Ethics and Corporate Social Responsibility ADMS 3660, Section A Professor: Anton Petrenko Anika Sultana Student no– 212333332 Date: 4th December 2014 The problems and issues mentioned in the case Dentex Corporation are: 1. Issue related to corporate social responsibility 2. Issue related to promotional deceiving 3. Issue related to equal opportunity in workplace 4. Issue related to employee responsibility 5. Issue related to bribery 1. Issue related to corporate social responsibility One of the major issues mentioned in the case is about corporate social responsibility. The deontological ethics states that there are things that we must do as a matter of principle regardless of consequences (Moral standards, PowerPoint Slides). Here the Vice President, Rodford had to act on the best interest of the company in making profit and surviving the competition against European and Japanese cars. Therefore he ignored the fact of putting people in risk of accidents. The positive right test assists the wellbeing of the company and its employee by making sales and profit. Whereas the negative right test overrides the wellbeing of the customers and the community members with the risk of death. Again since life is irreplaceable and profit can substituted by other means, the action of the company is wrong from the deontological view too. The policy that Dentex Corporation should follow is strict rules and regulation for the Product Planning Committee regarding product safety. There should be more awareness raised among the employees and management regarding the ethical responsibility towards the customers and society as a whole.
  • 8. 2. Issue related to promotional deceiving Another issue mentioned in the case is the deceptive advertising. Since the image of Rento was hampered because of the accidents, Dentex decided to develop a manipulative marketing strategy. Their strategy included targeting the young male crowd between the ages of 16 to 24, who can be influenced easily. The experimental researched and focus groups showed that this ... • 10. U.s. Foreign Corrupt Practices Act Of 1977 The FCPA (Foreign Corrupt Practices Act of 1977 was passed to ensure that U.S. firms do not engage in illegal bribing of foreign government officials to assist in obtaining or retaining business. Specifically, this act prohibits any offer, promise to pay, payment or even authorization of payment to a foreign official to influence it, secure any advantage or to assist in obtaining or retaining business. The presenting team used the Walmart case as basis for the debate as it is relevant to the issue in question. In April 2012, the NYT reported that the Walmart management in Mexico paid bribes of $24 million and $16 million in ""donation" to Mexico local government to help expand the business there. In their debate that team chose to explore the possibility of expansion to China while debating the pros and cons of bribery/ "pay for play" in China in order to succeed there. The arguments that resonated with me the most were the ethical arguments as I found myself agreeing with both sides of the argument. On one hand, it is obviously unethical to break the law and bribe but more importantly from a utilitarian perspective, this action will hurt the greater good or "stakeholders" who are the whole society. Bribing corrupt authorities will only perpetuate the corruption in those countries and once a company or individual has gone down that road it is very difficult to return. Bribery also encourages unfair competition that hurts the economy which eventually affects the whole ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 12. Joe To Go When expanding into a global marketplace, companies must select a means of market entry. The decision to export, franchise, build a strategic alliance, establish a joint venture, and make a direct investment is based upon two things: an organization's interest in maintaining marketing control and how much of a financial investment it is willing to make. This holds true for 5 Bucks and Joe to Go, both of which are coffee retailers that want to enter emerging urban markets in India. 5 Bucks prefers to maintain greater control afforded by a joint venture and is willing to take on greater financial risk. Joe to Go, on the other hand, is not as willing to take on high levels of financial risk and is willing to rely on its franchisees to effectively market and brand Joe to Go in India. Both options require their local partners to adjust offerings to meet the needs of the local population while maintaining similarities in product, look, and experience across global locations. Once an organization has decided to expand into the global marketplace, it must select a method of market entry. Companies may choose from five general options: (1) exporting, (2) franchising, (3) a strategic alliance, (4) a joint venture, and (5) direct investment. • 14. The Pros And Cons Of Lobbying And Arguments Through careful analysis of lobbying regulations, the effects will be analyzed on its positive affects on people, and how it negatively affects. Through the examination of past bills passed in government that were influenced by lobbying, the pros and cons may be examined. Research from academic journals has been compiled. It will show that without a proper regulatory entity, lobbying is dangerous to american citizens. The sum of money a company puts into lobbying, and which companies use lobbying will also be inspected. If it is just private companies, or rather public companies also. Therefore in order for lobbying to be successful it must be devoid of all personal influence, and propose policy that benefits all American citizens. Lobbying is an extremely controversial topic in American politics. Some citizens believe it is right for a company, and only helps the economy. On the other hand, citizens say that lobbying opens the door for corruption. However, in order to fully understand the pros and cons of lobbying first the basic definition of lobbying must be understood. • 16. Minimum Wage Pros And Cons Essay Cons of the minimum wage: As discussed earlier, the minimum wage would ultimately increase unemployment levels due to the labour getting costlier. This would not only threaten the current workers, but would also affect the unemployed people looking for jobs. Securing a job would be more challenging as employers would want to hire the best possible candidates who they deem worthy of the minimum wage. 10 Another disadvantage of having a minimum wage is the 'Deadweight loss from Minimum Wage'. But of course not every style is perfect. This style may also cause some less than desirable results. The first thing to realize is that being an authoritative parent is not an acceptable style for every child. As discussed in the case, Gulkin had reconsidered Burma back in 1994 when he discovered that the industry was generated by non–politically connected businesspeople. In this ethical dilemma, Blair's position was unacceptable and unethical because he decided to ignore all the bribery affairs, thus allowing something illegal. • 54. Satire And Irony, Much Like Doughnuts And Bribery The use of satire and irony, much like doughnuts and bribery, tends to be a creative way of getting someone to see things from your viewpoint. Unfortunately, unlike doughnuts and bribery, satire and irony are often misinterpreted by the public in extraordinary ways. What was meant to be educational might be deemed ignorant, and what was meant to be a productive critique of race relations and the educational system might be deemed "the most grotesque example of racist trash ever written." While I'm not trying to call out one person in particular for misunderstanding my work (and certainly not a Mr. John H. Wallace), I would like to clarify my intentions in writing my most misunderstood piece of work, The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn. I would also like to comment on the current state of the society and politics of this great nation which we call home. I should say first, however, that I find it highly amusing that the people in this country have the time to attack a work that is purposefully jarring when America is falling apart around their ears. A high wealth gap, elections influenced by rich idiots in support of other, more easily influenced rich idiots, and the culture of having "faux–morals" are some of the things slowly eating away at the soul of this country. Despite all this, there may still be hope of mending things in the future. The tradition of using satire and irony to effect change (which I'd like to believe that I started) has survived through mock–news ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

By this coming November, campaign spending for all candidates spending for all candidates who ran in this year's election will be an estimated total of 4.4 billion dollars ("Do We Really Need"). Campaign finance should be restricted and monitored, laws can create more incentive for candidates to disclose political spending. Disclosing Political spending helps voters make informed decisions at the ballot box, and fosters trust in the political process ("Do We Really Need"). States regulate campaign finance in three ways by disclosure and reporting requirements, setting contribution limits to candidate campaign, and by providing a method for public financing of elections. Candidates who run for Federal Office as President of the United States, Vice President, and Senator or House of Representatives have the responsibility to contact the Federal Election Commission to obtain forms and information regarding Federal Campaign requirements and filing deadlines (De Gruyter). Pros And Cons Of Due Process Model Assignment #1 The Due Process Model works in a way where it is designed to present the individual that is accused with a crime with a protection that can be utilized as an obstacle to the government and the criminal justice system when trying to prosecute those that are charged with possible felony. The method of the due process model gives everyone a chance to be innocent until proven guilty instead of an immediate punishment just so society can be pleased. The model gives double jeopardy to the offender as well as the chance to rehabilitate those of crimes. The criminals who are rehabilitated can return to the community. The government shouldn't hold an individual guilty based on facts on a person gives just to "get it over with", and the individual should be found guilty only when the government follows the correct and legal procedures in every stage of the process. Although there are many positives, there are also many cons. The downside to the due process model is that it can take a long time, maybe even years to establish a decision on whether who is right, the accused or accuser. There can be misleading juries, misinterpreted laws, tampered/planted or misanalysed evidence as well as bribery of judges and attorneys, and the bribery to the judges and attorneys. Increasing drug use and its effect have made drug law reform a major topic in international and domestic policy agendas (Wood, 2010). The use of drugs by young generation with its associated crimes has resulted to a debate that is beyond human comprehension. The international bodies associated with drug use and their prevention has allowed countries to impose only minor penalties to those found possessing the drugs (Court, 1994). (Current, AuthorLastName 3 1991) First, before this is evaluated, a short history of drug use is necessary. Some of the remedies for most arrays of diseases were heroin and cocaine used as non–addictive painkillers. As the time moved, thousands of world population diverted to opiates and cocaine for the same purpose in early 20th century (Current, 1991). In schools today, there are ways that they use methods or tactics to motivate or convince students to do better in class, for the reputation of the school, increased attendance or to increase test scores. One way or method that is used to achieve these goals is the use cash for grades. Which is basically paying students money for grades like A's and B's. This is thought to be controversial, and for good reasons. Also, if schools have to absolutely resort to using money to buy education they are just prolonging the fact that students will become even more unmotivated once the money is not enough for them to keep moving forward with their success. Although this idea does motivate students to do better and provides benefits for a student's success, it just doesn't cut it. It has great potential but has major flaws that hold it back from being a great way to motivate students. However each province was sent an elected official that had run to become governor. These Roman governors had some amount of power once they set foot onto their new province. Some Roman governors tried really hard to be upstanding but faced many problems such as language and culture barriers. A specific one would be the eastern customs of giving and receiving gifts which could be considered a bribe. Governors could either take the gift and be accused of bribery or risk offending the local population. Many unscrupulous governors took the opportunity and accepted these gifts. Many times corrupt or unethical governors would team up with the syndicate and make some extra income while providing the publicani with some man power. In emerging economies, bribes and other similar payments have a negative impact. Such corruption, although appearing to provide short term growth, will not turn into long term growth. Corruption reduces the efficiencies of the operations of the market economy and a loss of direct foreign investment in countries where participation in corruption is how business is done. Exhibits 4 and 5 are likely to help stop future foreign corrupt practices. To have a set of rules and expectations such as in Exhibit 4, the due diligence procedures, helps by leaving a paper trail. It is important to document the process of hiring a new agent, to make sure that you are complying with the FCPA. Exhibit 5 is also helpful because it is a reference point for anyone who may not be familiar with corruption in international business. To have a set of red flags that can be referenced, it can reduce employees just looking the other way and claiming they were not aware of the potential for corruption during a business deal. While neither of these will stop every occurrence of corrupt practices, having them in place will cause employees to think twice about engaging in such practices. If there is a standard for everyone to follow, it will also be easier to catch those that still decide to intentionally engage in foreign corrupt practices because they will be unable to say they did not know what was happening. 7. Business Ethics : China, Russia And Indonesia Diebold: China, Russia and Indonesia Shane Stoddard BUS 351 Section 503 December 2, 2014 The topic of business ethics is not as concrete as other areas of study. It has various meanings depending on the location of where the study or practice is taking place. An action that someone in America would deem as socially acceptable, ethical behavior, may not be in accordance with the societal norms of another nation. Normally this doesn't raise too big of a problem with business, as most businesses only operate within a single nation. However, this is an incredibly important concept to those businesses that practice within the global market. Globalization is an excellent way to expand your business, but as we can see with the case of the Securities and Exchange Commission vs. Diebold inc., the ethical barriers between nations may not be so easy to follow.
